Rush Limbaugh on ‘why liberals hate America.’

“A lot of people have tried to explain liberals. It’s a tough thing to do because people who aren’t liberal, it’s tough challenge to try to get outside yourself enough to understand these people. Most of them are miserable, most of them are unhappy. Most of them don’t really matter, don’t amount to much, and resent anybody else who does.”

    I'm not.

  2. Krazny Says:

LOL, a little projection on Rush's part I think.

  3. DieNowForPeace Says:

Just because you weigh 400 lbs. DOESN'T mean you amount to much, other than a heapin, steamin, pile 'o crap, right Douche Limpbag?

  4. Zooey Says:

He's describing wingnuts. I guess Rush doesn't know any liberals.

    Back to the books!

  5. PeterW Says:

Most of them don’t really matter, don’t amount to much

Gee, I thought we liberals were out-of-touch wealthy intellectual elites. Which is it?

  6. RedPretzel Says:

Strong words coming from a drug addict and a criminal.

  7. EasyRider Says:

    Talk about a clueless asshole.

  8. LibInStL Says:

I've never been more liberal or happier in my life! The unhappy people I know are all of the wingnut variety.

  9. Darwin's Dagger Says:

Most of them are miserable, most of them are unhappy. Most of them don’t really matter, don’t amount to much, and resent anybody else who does.

Sounds like a Fat Drug Addict I know, only he's a conservative.

  10. Unholy Moses Says:

    Let's see here ... we've got:

a President who does whatever he wants ... an Attorney General who thinks torture is dandy and habeus corpus is negotiable ... and Secretary of State who wouldn't know diplomacy if it flew through the gap in her teeth ... a war that has been mismanaged at all levels ... a feeling of unity after 9/11 pissed down the drain due to arrogance and incompetence ... and entire city flooded and then ignored by those who can help fix it ... a bunch of legislation aimed at writing bigotry and discrimination into our Constitution ... and a bunch of talking heads who have been spectacularly wrong about everything, yet still getting paid tons of cash to spew lies ...

    Actually, I'm not unhappy.

    I'M !#$%ING PISSED!

And anyone who hasn't had a labotomy should be as well.

  11. Publicus Says:

Yeah, Rush is great at getting outside of himself and understanding the viewpoints of other people...

    LOL!!!

  12. Technodaoist Says:

If liberals are miserable and unhappy, it is because the state our country is due to water-carriers like you, fatboy.

  13. BlueArkansas Says:

You're right, Rush. We liberals don't really matter...to law enforcement; we don't amount to much...in the criminal underworld; and we do resent anybody...who twists or ignores truth in service to a morally bankrupt worldview.

  14. [B!] Says:

    "Why liberals hate Rush Limbaugh?"

We love America;that's why we do everything we can to stop pukes like him,and his mind nummed propaganda.
Let these Reich clowns keep running their mouths, and watch the Rethugs fall further behind in '08.

  15. Jeffrey Stewart Says:

Mr. Limbaugh is ON his meds again!

  16. Raven Says:

    Miserable? Unhappy?
Isn't that a common cause of drug addiction to pain killers?

  17. Sharon Cox Says:

More crap from the only person I know of that has 3 butt's,one in his face and 2 on his back side, and speak's shit out of all 3...A druggie like bush, with an ajenda as big as his bloated body...Keep it up, ass wipe, we love making fun of the radical, drunk, drugged up reich wing...Blessings

  18. Nice Says:

Nice words from a whore fu-king, drug addicted, sh!t bag. The only America that I hate is the Right wingnut portion of it.

  19. Yikes! Says:

Wow. Sound slike he is ddescribing the POTUS. Or himself.

  20. Hypocrisy Patrol Says:

Why should I listen to a three times divorced, college dropout, recovering? drug addict tell me about being happy?

  21. TripMaster Monkey Says:

Remember right after the November elections, when this ambulatory pustule bitched and moaned about how he was 'tired of carrying water for those who don't deserve it'?

Looks like someone pulled him aside and gave him a little talking-to, because he grabbed those buckets and has started carrying double-time.

  22. pgl Says:

Rush thinks he's happier than we liberals. I guess that's because most liberals aren't consuming massive quantities of illegal drugs.

  23. DJShay Says:

He's actually on to something in one part of of the statement. It’s a tough thing to do because people who aren’t liberal, it’s tough challenge to try to get outside yourself enough to understand these people. That's precisely why we are liberal. We have the ability to empathize with others and consider more than 1 point of view. It only makes us unhappy when others, like Rush don't even try.

  24. rail Says:

" Most of them are miserable, most of them are unhappy. " Oxy-Dancer Rush Limpbaugh

Well, compared to a guy whose chronically hopped up on either Oxycontin or using Viagara on an island replete with prostitution, yeah, I guess we seem less happy.

On the other hand, NOT being high permits us a lucidity and rationality to avoid being whores for corporate/GOP propaganda.

  25. Keyser Soze Says:

And what exactly makes him an expert?

This coming from someone who sought refuge from the ACLU when his medical records were going to be unsealed. On the sweet hypocrisy.

  26. Jay Randal Says:

Who care what fat-head Limbaugh thinks or spews! Deport him to Siberia, Russia to farm potatoes for the rest of his disgusting life!

  27. Robert Says:

    Projection

  28. Randy Nason Says:

I don't hate America. I just hate fat, ugly and obcene Nazis who think they have anything to offer to humanity. Limbaugh is a joke and anyone who would listen to this clown is an unevolved pink monkey with a Messiah complex. I also think that it is a disgrace that he gets federal funding by this administration to spread his brand of un-newsworthy filth to the troops.

  29. VerbalKint Says:

Rush is a big fat lying drug addict, but what about his fans that swallow this crap? I think that Rush is projecting in a sense, but more on behalf of his fans than himself.

  30. alp3 Says:

are you sure about that? or could it be something along these lines.
could it be that maybe, just maybe they are happy? could it be that
they found success w/out having to resort to the underhanded tactics
and out right bullsh*t, that lets say an uber-conservative, talking head
    disk jockey does?

Could it be that they don't have to fly off to some enchanted island,
pop a little prescription medication and smother a few unfortunate,
enslaved locals to maybe get a little something, something?
Could it be that they know the difference between finding
    happiness and buying it?

or that the size of your paycheck has no direct relation to the size of your penis.

Could it be that they found, early on, that a bigger house, a bigger
car, and a freakin' bigger mouth didn't necessarily translate into
    being a bigger human being.

Could it be they realized that being right all the time wasn't as
important as being a least bit tolerant and understanding?

Or, lil' limbo, could it be that most, if not all liberals think your
a complete stumbling, bumbling, dipsh*t, and well... that makes
you fit a bit uneasy and confused.

    fade away.

  31. pgl Says:

I wonder if some college frat fellows are running this version:

Fred: Hey, wouldn't you be happy if you were doing Daryn Kagan?

    Jim: It depends.

    Fred: Depends on what?

Jim: Whether I had to listen to her talk afterwards.

Or as Duncan Black simply commented upon learning that these two ere dating - EEEEWWW!

  32. ggibson Says:

I grew up among non-liberals (Pat Robertson/Rod Parsley christians actually) ... they were always talking about the great sins of America and how America was going to turn on the chosen people and make them all get 666 tatooed on their foreheads and no christian would be able to buy food unless they had 666 on their head... America is full of LUST and SIN!!! Oh Lord save us from the world... we live in the world but are not part of this world!

Constantly in fear of and pure hatred for your own country sounds like the people Rush was describing ... they are the people that listen to his show...

  33. Raven Says:

From the generally sour and craven expressions on Dick-tater Chainee's face, he must actually be a ....
    ..........liberal???????!!!!!!!......
    ..........I'm so confused.........

  34. RUCerious Says:

Good thing Rush doesn't know me!
I'm the happiest geezer on the planet!

  35. MikeS Says:

Rush, can you spell 'projection'? It's never taken more than room temperature intelligence to be able to see that progressive philosophies are not about hate and resentment, but right wing ideology is.

  36. Rebel In CA Says:

Why this guy is a gas bag

Most of them are miserable, most of them are unhappy.
Actually since November 7 most of us have been extremely happy

Most of them don’t really matter
House Majority, Senate Majority and he still thinks we don't matter

    don’t amount to much
First female Speaker of the House, possibly first black president or female president, need I say more

and resent anybody else who does.”No only resetn drug addled gas bags like Rust Limpballs, O'Falafel, Sean Insanity and Coultergeist

  37. Clyde the Ripper Says:

Any generalization is not worth a damn, including this one. Statements such as those that are the subject of this tread do nothing but highlight the ignorance and biases of the originator. They are nothing but excuses to cover the author's own inadequacies. There is no reason to publicize such drivel in the case of Limbaugh because those that would agree are on the same level and agree out of hand without a thought of their own. Those that recognize the BS for what it is just consider the source and ignore it in the first place. We here would be better served if we spent more time in hastening the end of bushco and less time in pointing out that the Neocon assholes are assholes.

  39. paul Says:

All these are just from the 30 posts above. Assuming that you don't agree with Rush and his ideology, don't comments like these somehow prove his point? If Rush is everything progressives say he is, maybe it is time for progressives to lead by example a new civility.

  41. David Carlisle Says:

Only thing most American conservatives know about American liberals is what they've been told by other American conservatives. They have to speculate and make up stuff, (Saddam lover, terrorist appeaser, America hater, communist and other things they've heard from extreme conservatives) and try to imagine what damage liberals would do to the country into if they controlled the government.

We have the upper hand debating them in that area, though. We know darn well what damage conservatives do to the country when they control the government.

  42. Jay Randal Says:

paul > do NOT defend the Nazi Limbaugh on here! Go to RedState.com if you like Rush!

  43. Joe Sixpack Says:

See? Now do you see what drug abuse will do to your thinking?

And you thought it was just confined to the president.

  44. James Says:

He could be referencing the annual survey that racks self-reported 'happiness'. While it is true that 'conservatives' are 'happier' than 'liberals' (they use party affiliation actually) there is a definite problem with the responses. Conservatives could be giving the answer they believe they are 'supposed' to give. They could also be delusional.

The main problem, however, is that the survey has the desire for social change as part of the 'happiness' question. That is 'happiness' is actually 'happiness' with the world around as well as your own. It's a very misleading survey to put forth in that way.

  45. the fly-man Says:

Rush wishes he had a comb-over.

  46. Parrotlover77 Says:

Man Rush is hillarious sometimes in his delusions. Some of the richest and most successful people in the USA (and world) are very liberal. it's only the super-greedy that tend toward conservativism. The type that are so pre-occupied with thinking they are a "self-made woman" (or man, as in Ann Coulter's case) they forget about all the assistance they got on their way to the top...

As for the happiness comment, that's just too funny for words. I love life!

  47. trueblue Says:

Most of them don’t really matter, don’t amount to much, and resent anybody else who does.”

(Curled into fetal position, thumb in mouth, crying)

"Waaa! Rush Limbaugh doesn't like me!"

  48. the fly-man Says:

    Do liberals hurt Rush's feelings?

  49. Parrotlover77 Says:

ggibson - I grew up among non-liberals (Pat Robertson/Rod Parsley christians actually) …

Good point. The "end days" types are overwhelmingly conservative. Secularists and the rest of Christianity are overwhelmingly liberal and middle of the road.

Life is certainly more enjoyable when you can live life not worrying about Satan being in every arbitrary object and action.

The concept of "original sin" is a tool of oppression.

  52. Randy Nason Says:

#38- I believe in fighting fire with fire. That's what one calls establishing a fire-line. I don't feel like having the "gentleman" over for tea and cakes -but that's just me. Besides, I don't have any Rx drugs to offer. Pip, pip -cheery-o.

  53. Parrotlover77 Says:

    Do liberals hurt Rush’s feelings?

Only pansy liberals like us have feelings. Rush followers are "real men" and don't let feelings get in the way of talking points!

Does your ability to cut-n-paste know no bounds? Seriously, I had no idea that was you were talking about until I actually read my own words in your less than impressive attempt to refute my (and others') statement.

    Rush is fat.
    Rush is a drug addict.
    Rush is a criminal.
Rush is, by his OWN WORDS, a water-carrier.

How's it feel to be a water-carrier to a water-carrier? Come back when you have something more progressive to say.

  56. nikkiana Says:

Weird stuff. Anyone heard from Coulter lately? Or did the righties finally shut her up?
Rush is fat and jerks off alot.

  60. the fly-man Says:

He's just fueling up his nerve to challenge the decider to pardon Libby and move on. Rush paints a huge diagnosis of innate discontentment on those who will take us to internal disaster by calling for the Vice President's resignation or impeachment. This is just another Iran Contra with a few returning cast members. He's intimidating congress. The real story is The Constitution takes a hit while the President becomes emperor. It's what it's all about. How's that AeroSmith song go, The Train kepta rollin all night long....

  61. johnny Says:

Why do you guys even debate the labels of "liberal" and "conservative".

Your "elite" oligarchical leaders are SELECTED not ELECTED. The system is broken beyond repair.

Start being Americans and that's it. No more labels. Either our leaders do what Americans want or we "throw the bums out". That's all.

    Abolish the Federal Reserve!

  62. KingCranky Says:

Liberal bashing, coming from the media quisling who insisted Sherrod Brown is black, is truly rich indeed

When Rush can't even get the race right of someone he's bashing, it undercuts every other argument he'll ever make

  63. the fly-man Says:

Johnny, the selected people who are beholden to the Federal Reserve would certainly be the first to remind you that this is not a Democracy, but a Republic and just this shy of an Infallible Executive, sorta like Star Wars. Also don't forget the body of 100 little executives called the Senate.

  64. GodfryDaniel Says:

Hey Rush, I fart in your general direction. Not that you would notice as the stench pouring from your mouth would mask out anything I could produce.

  65. Zimzone Says:

    Ho Chi Rush:
-Wants all Americans in the same political party. 1 party=Communist

-Deny women equal rights / access / wages=Communist

    -Control all media messages=Communist

    Rush, you're a 'Ho!

  66. Joe Sixpack Says:

Weird stuff. Anyone heard from Coulter lately? Or did the righties finally shut her up?
    Comment by Jeff

Well, maybe she might be in the hospital for anorexia. She was a walking skeleton last I saw of her. But I heard that other skank, Michelle Malkin, has been or is still in Iraq, hobnobbing with with the brass in the Green Zone. Probably as a prelude for an appearance on Faux News since her shitty little web site is doing so poorly.

  67. Anti Warhol Says:

  71. Innocent Bystander Says:

If someone paid me $24MM/year, I could be a propagandist and an apologist for this administration, too.

  72. Elvis Says:

    Mr. Limbaugh,

Could it be that the reason it’s so tough for people who are not liberal to get outside themselves and challenge themselves, is that these people, like you, are simply afraid what you’ll find? I grew up a conservative individual, being raised by a Vietnam Vet and spending 4 years in the Marine Corps myself. But I was also very creative, from a very young age. I have played an instrument since I was 5 years old, and I started drawing on my free time when I was 8, I’m now 33. It was this passion for art and creativity, I feel, that broke my conservative nature. Being creative, one typically needs to look deep inside them selves to find inspiration. Or look at the world around them from a different perspective. At first, I was very afraid of what I would find if I looked at myself with deep, honest eyes. But it was a process that could not be avoided if I wanted to continue to create in the manner that came natural to me. The world opened up for me in ways that I cannot put into words.

For example, when I was “a conservative,” I could not understand, let alone appreciate “abstract art.” Scribbles on of random colors with a paint brush on a canvas seemed silly and worthless. I was far more interested in drawing something to make it look as real as possible. However, I started playing guitar when I was 14 or so, and was soon trying to come up with different rhythms or sounds. When I found something, I began to question “what inspired me to put those two notes together? Why does that sound good to me?” It was this process of asking questions about what I liked to hear that drove me to question what I liked to look at. I suddenly understood “the abstract.” So before, when I would see a painting or a sculpture that made no sense to me at all, I would shake my head and move on, thinking “how ridiculous.” Today, when I see something like that, I appreciate it for how unbelievably beautiful it is, that someone can create something, from nothing, using their feelings, thoughts or visions. Where I would walk on by before, I now can sit and stare for hours on end. I truly appreciate, enjoy and accept the differences in people. It is these differences that make us individuals; it’s what makes us beautiful.

The human existence these days, in my opinion is far out of focus. People of “the west” are so concerned with money, success, and politics and so forth, when in the end, living their lives this way leaves little of their true selves behind. It’s creating something from your heart and soul that is truly leaving something behind. You can leave 10 million dollars to your kids, a book or two full of pictures and a few memories, living life out of focus. But to leave behind a work of art that came from your soul, is to leave behind who you were. A glimpse at what was inside of you. Not just a picture of your skin, but your own interpretation of your soul. But to do so, to leave behind whatever is inside you, you need complete freedom. You need freedom from your own conservative thoughts that would keep you from expressing yourself and freedom from the constraints put on you by others who are still out of focus.

To be “conservative” is to maintain; to not change; to use caution. You can’t be who you truly are deep inside, when you are your own problem, not to mention the problem for others.

To be “liberal” is to have the liberty to make a change; to not be tied to “norms”; to have freedom from constraints. To have freedom, sir.

I urge you, with all the fiber of my being, to take one experiment. Go to an art store and buy two pre framed poster sized canvas’ and a set of paints (any kind). Put them in a room where you can make a mess, and leave them there. One day, when you are feeling extremely mad, completely frustrated, go into that room at just start grabbing paint and start painting, anything; scribbles, blotches, anything. While you are painting, keep thinking about what is making you mad. Talk to yourself about it, it doesn’t matter. In this room, you are free. Then, on another day, when you are feeling very positive, you just got a raise, or you just had an orgasm, go in and paint the other canvas. While painting, just keep thinking about what is making you so happy. Do whatever comes to you, while you are painting. When you are done, put one 90 degrees to your right, and three feet away, the other 90 degrees to your left, and three feet away. Then sit in the middle and look at them both, and think about what you remember about painting them. If you have never done this before, it will change your appreciation for art, for things that are creative, for things that are human.

    Be free.

  73. Mikey Says:

"It’s a tough thing to do because people who aren’t liberal, it’s tough challenge to try to get outside yourself enough to understand these people."

Well at least he nailed conservatives as the self-centered, arrogant, egotistal shitheads that they are.

  74. Joanie Doe Says:

    LIBERALS HATE TRUTH

Liberals never let facts get in the way of a good argument. That is just one of the undeniable truths of life that must be accepted by all conservatives. A recent posting on this web site from a chronic Bush hater called “bushisacrook” offers up W’s “resume” and accomplishments as president. Unfortunately this posting was full of lies and half truths, witch is the typical basis for a liberal arguments. It would take to much space to address them all individually,
    GEORGE W. BUSH RESUME
    ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS PRESIDENT:

    1. I attacked and took over two countries. Yes, this is what Bush did. Without being provoked, George Bush took it upon himself to attack and take over two countries….and we would like to apologize to Canada and Mexico.

    2. I spent the U.S. surplus and bankrupted the Treasury.
I shattered the record for biggest annual deficit in history.
I set an economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 2-month period. I set the all-time record for the most foreclosures in a 12-month period. I set all-time record for biggest drop in the history of the stock market. Hey, did you hear? We’re bankrupt. I guess the Wall Street Journal missed that story, and for the record, the deficit, as a percentage of GDP, which is the only important measuring stick, is still lower than it’s been in decades. (It’s called Economics 101. Take it. Learn It. Live It.) It is an economic fact that George Bush inherited a U.S. economy that was stalling and beginning to tumble and had to deal with a world that was in a death spiral from Germany to Japan. Then 9/11 wreaked havoc on the the economic center of the universe….All in all, I’d say Bush has done a pretty good job protecting us from a Carter-like malaise.

    3. In my first year in office I set the all-time record for most days on vacation by any president in US history. After taking the entire month of August off for vacation, I presided over the worst security failure in US history. Any third grader probably understands that a president, never has a vacation. Ever. All they do is move the headquarters for the running of the free world from one location to another. If you call having constant, 24 hour, security presence and daily briefings from everyone who works for you a vacation, then you’re right. ( What a bullshit complaint. I probably shouldn’t even have acknowledged it.)

    4. In my first two years in office over 2 million Americans lost their jobs.
I cut unemployment benefits for more out-of-work Americans than any other president in US history. See Economy 101. And for the record, in the last 8 months nearly 1.5 million new jobs have been created, thanks to Bush tax cuts and economic policy.

    5. I signed more laws and executive orders amending the Constitution than any other president in US history. After Economics 101, check out Civics 102. Amending the constituion requires a super majority vote of both houses of congress, then ratification by the legislative branches of two thirds of the states. It’s a little harder than just a pen stroke.

    6. I presided over the biggest energy crises in US history and refused to intervene when corruption was revealed. I presided over the highest gasoline prices in US history and refused to use the national reserves as past presidents have. Are you starting to understand why school vouchers are so important. Apparently the person who posted this was not alive when Jimmy Carter was president. I remember gas rationing and the “odd/even” method of being told what day you could buy gas. If Bush would have emptied the national oil reserves the day he took office, it would be making it to the pump right about now….but then again, you’d have to understand a little bit about how the oil industry works to get it.

    7. I set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously take to the streets to protest me (15 million people), shattering the record for protest against any person in the history of mankind. It’s good to be the king.

    8. I dissolved more international treaties than any president in US history. Thank you. And would the jackasses who kept us in those outdated, irrelevant treaties please stand up.

    9. I’ve made my presidency the most secretive and unaccountable of any in US history. How do you know? I mean, wouldn’t the most secret and unaccountable presidency, still be a secret….and unaccountable?

    10. I am the first president in US history to have all 50 states of the Union simultaneously go bankrupt. Again, the Wall Street Journal must be sleeping on the job to miss this one.

    11. I presided over the biggest corporate stock market fraud in any market in any country in the history of the world. No, that would be Bill Clinton. On two counts. The Enron and World Com debacles were at fever pitch under Clinton….and do you recall under which administration Ken Lay and all his ilk were exposed and prosecuted?…..

    12. I am the first president in US history to order a US attack and military occupation of a sovereign nation, and I did so against the will of the United Nations and the world community. Okay take Economics first period, Civics second period and American History third period. We’ll leave the schedule open after lunch.

    13. I rendered the entire United Nations irrelevant. The United Nations rendered itself irrelevant by failing to do what it said it would and then actively try to thwart enforcement of it’s own directives. By the way, you should also do some reading on the Oil For Food scandal that receives virtually no media attention in this country. The reason the U.N. fought against invading Iraq is because so many U.N. officials and world leaders were making so much money off Sadam being in power, to lose it would be unthinkable.

At this point I’m just tired. If there were at least some factual basis to the remaining claims made by this crazed Bush hater I might enjoy the debate, but when an argument is based on lies, ignorance and willful distortion…there is no debate. In fact, there is nothing worthy of debate, a point I prove with a final challenge.

Our visitor wrote; In a little over two years I have created the most divided country in decades, possibly the most divided that the US has been since the civil war. This is from the same write who called Bush a liar, a crook, a drunk, a deserter, a murderer and a moron. Who’s dividing the country?

This statement basically just slammed all those on the right (Hey Exley, Hi St.Daryll, 'sup hacker bob...oh, and bite me JMH)
Rush is saying that the right really can't think on their own, to go outside of the "box" and relate to others different from themselves. In a nutshell...Dittoheads are D.U.M.B.

Most of them are miserable, most of them are unhappy
Pure projection. Maybe about the illegal war in Iraq, the massive debt we are accumalting, the jobless rate, and, at the time, a do-nothing Congress that pandered to the extreme rich....yea, we were miserable and unhappy, but then again, who wouldn't be. But all in all, we liberals are quite happy (you know, that free love and all. and as an added bonus, we don't have to leave the country with our doctor's "little helper")

  76. Zep Tepi Says:

Oh my, did Rush just admit to having his cranium deposited into his colon?

Say we really shoulld take collections for Limbaughs abdominal plexotomy procedure for no man should have to walk around and not see where he is going.

    Rush is hilarious!

    Man I love that guy!

  78. Bluestocking Says:

Well, someone who believes that ignorance is bliss would say that! I also find myself reminded of an old Hungarian proverb which says "the believer is happy -- the doubter is wise."

  79. Karim Says:

You know I always thought that Limbaugh was just an idiot...but he proved me wrong. He is an idiot and an asshole.

  80. paul Says:

I'm not refuting the sentiment here. I just believe that progressives have good positions on many issues. If you resort to name calling, I believe it only weakens your credibility on other issues. It seems hypocritical to me that the same progressives that complain about Limbaugh's lack of tolerance, have no tolerance for him (which may be understandable), but more importantly, no tolerance for anyone who opposes the conventional wisdom here. I have been posting here for about 6 months. I have been called a Nazi, troll, (pretty much every four letter word), scum, moron, idiot, imbred southerner, crazy christian (I'm not christian, by the way), turd polisher (still my favorite Zooey) and the list goes on. I am not complaining at all. What I am doing is suggesting the hypocracy displayed by progressives on this issue, undermines your ability to be convincing when you make other arguments. Progressives obviously have much to contribute to make this a better world. I respectfully believe that could happen faster and more effectively if you forego the intolerance that you lament coming from conservatives and take the higher ground.

  81. barrelhse Says:

Paul- do you propose that people should allow this hatred to go unchallenged? That was BEFORE the elections, chump.
There is no good reason to be nice to a lying sack of shit; ignoring them only makes them bolder. "Swift-boat" ring a bell?

Libby believes in Xanu- Now that's a topic.

  82. Zep Tepi Says:

I agree with the premise of your post Paul. It's become a national pastime apparently to trash one another.

Heck over at Eschaton, or Wizbang for that matter, I have been called much worse. It's candy to my ears even though they think they have 'hurt' me somehow with their spiteful words.

Be the bigger person I say.

  83. kbcart Says:

  84. TonyC Says:

It’s a tough thing to do because people who aren’t liberal, it’s tough challenge to try to get outside yourself enough to understand these people.

Yeah, Rush, we liberals have a word for people who can do that. It's called.... "INTELLIGENT."

And has anyone noticed that the more we liberals "don’t really matter, don’t amount to much," the more time he seems to talk about us. Or is that another example of Christian Charity?

  85. paul Says:

Zep Tepi. I may not agree with everything you say, but I respect you for taking the higher road. When I hear someone call me a name, it doesn't cause me think more seriously about what they are saying. I just picture a 3 year old calling me 'doodie head' and chuckle. The postings that cause me to pause and reconsider my own believes (and there have been many here) are the ones in which someone can disagree with me and still be calm and reasonable and respectful. At that point, I realize that I am dealing with someone rational, with a viewpoint that could change what I believe. I would be lying, if I didn't admit, those times are unsettling - but therapeutic.

For many of us, patience ran out a long time ago. We are way past being polite at this point. I made the conscious decision not to lob insults at my opponents when I started posting here but I do it sometimes too: The vile, foul language and the hateful, immoral filth coming from the other side of the political spectrum is simply too much.

There is no low Bush supporters won't stoop to in order to justify, defend their (mis)Leader. From torture, violation of the law, overt racism, and xenophobia to cronyism, corruption, and the prostitution of their own religion for financial, personal gain -it's all ok if their (mis)Leader says it is.

Limbaugh is not just one of such supporters, he is leading the pack, carrying the flag. He is a sorry excuse of a human being and should be exposed as the ideological pimp that he is.

Please make them stop! I have no other recourse against true debaters and patriots other than to fold my tent and run to you for some kind of strange assistance that I never recieve by the way.

  88. paul Says:

Gregor Samsa. I would consider you one of a dozen or so that are not intolerant to conservatives like me. I understand and agree with your sentiments of conservatives that are at least as intolerant, but I just feel that it really gets in the way of real debate. I have posted my share of insightful things, but I am trying to be more respectful in the hopes of understanding progressive views and shelving the idea that political ideas are some kind of competition with winners and losers. You're cool.

My neighbor is a staunch conservative and we talk about a great many things without letting personal bias emote anger towards one another. From religion to physics we found out we had more in common than not. Politics is just one facet of a persons ideology and is not worth beating up each other over for some fat cat in D.C. =)

I understand conservatives all too well. Most in my extended family are very conservative, good churchgoers, and married family folk. No vices, no extra-marital funny business, no challenging authority -or not too much. But they think. If someone in position of authority says or does something that goes against what they've been taught since they were little, they stop and think. They are also emotionally mature enough to admit to an error. I disagree with most of their points of view but I respect them for that.

It is the mindless, blind Bush cult that has got the US in this horrible mess we are all now. You wouldn't believe how many times I've tried to tell Bush supporters that Bush is no conservative, or he is conservative only in name, with no results (I am not sure how to label him, but something like crony-appointing, sound avise-ignoring, trigger happy, warmongering, oil thursty, reckless imperialist twerp might begin to describe him). People want to follow Bush because they attach certain personality traits to the label "conservative" in spite of his actions that show he is no social conservative but an opportunistic politician.

I guess my reply to you, in a nutshell, is: If you want to be a conservative, fine. I think you are wrong but it is your choice and your prerogative. Just don't be a blind, mindless, personality cult follower. I think you are one of the few conservative visitors to this site to are honest enough to admit to misgivings in their support for Pres Bush. And I respect you for that.

  94. paul Says:

Gregor Samsa. It is possible that I misjudge the character of Bush. But, I do support his efforts, while I recognize the missteps. I flew with a guy one time who was in a member of a church that had a deranged guy that came in and shot and kill several members during a service. This is when Bush was governor of Texas. Now, it was second hand, but the guy said that his pastor told him that although Bush had visited with him several times after the shootings to ensure that everyone at the church was doing okay, Bush asked not to be included in the funeral ceremonies for the dead parishoners. The reason given was the he didn't want the attention of the ceremonies to be diverted by his presense. If he is an opportunist or self-centered wouldn't he have used the occassion to further his political career? I believe there is a difference between making mistakes and doing something criminal. I think that distinction has been blurred by the contentious nature of our politics. Another point I think is relavent is that Bush was a multi-millionaire before he ran for President. The idea that he would accend to the Presidency for greed, doesn't make sense to me. If you had the money of Bush or Cheney, and you wanted more money, you would probably go to wall street, not pennslyvania ave.

    Comment by paul — January 26, 2007 @ 6:50 pm

Au contraire, Pennsylvania Ave. is exactly the place you'd want to go.

You could appoint your cronies to key government positions in order to award juicy contracts to your other cronies, friends, and extended family. You could change laws -or ignore them- to benefit the same. You could even send the military to take over another country; guess who would get to rebuild it?

In other words, you would have financial as well as political power -all wrapped in one.

And when you leave office, you will be able to reap huge financial rewards through repayments for the favors you dispensed: Seats in many boards of directors, key executive positions, "consulting' gigs; you name it.

C'mon Paul, it's not as if I am breaking new ground here...

  97. USA Says:

Ah, but we know about Psychological Projection. It's common in Psychopath sufferers like you Rush.

  98. paul Says:

#99. Gregor Samsa. Nicely done! I concede the point about the white house being a seat of political and financial power. The idea the someone with tens of millions of dollars would opt for the scrutiny of the white house to just try to accumulate more wealth is , however, not plausible to me. The idea that someone would do it for the power is very plausible, but if that is the case, you could probably also accuse all of the previous Presidents (Washington possibly excepted) of the same. I believe if the President's behavior in office has been criminal, the free press would ferret it out.

    Comment by paul — January 26, 2007 @ 9:21 pm

No, no, no -the real accumulation comes after they've left office not during their tenure. The US is not a banana republic...

I didn't mean to insinuate that any American president pulls money out of the public treasury and into their pockets. Their time in the White House is a ground-laying period of sorts, when they generate all the circumstances that will help them, and their political allies i nthe future.

It is also a matter of personal, family prestige -maybe I made too much emphasis on the monetary aspect.

I believe if the President’s behavior in office has been criminal, the free press would ferret it out.

Well, I do believe it has been criminal: The invasion of Iraq is no small matter. I doubt, however, he would be guilty of petty theft -like shady land deals, or shaky construction contracts.

    Comment by Paul

I have read that when Bush was governor of Texas, he made it a point to find out which bills were likely to pass the then-Dem-controlled legislature and support them as if they were practically his ideas all along. That sounds opportunistic to me. As for Bush's wealth, aside from being born into it with a veritable silver spoon in his mouth, most of what he "earned" later came through help from Daddy's friends, as all the companies he set up tanked on their own. Cheney, by contrast, wasn't born into wealth; almost all of his multi-millions come from the contacts--most notably his appointment as CEO of Halliburton-- he made while in government service.
But, thank you, anyway, Paul, for taking the high road and not resorting to insults like so many of the conservative trolls here.
