Three weeks ago, legendary Texan and progressive columnist Molly Ivins “wrote that she would dedicate every single one of her syndicated columns from now on to the issue of stopping the war in Iraq — until it ended. But she has managed to finish only one more column since. The gravely ill Texas columnist has been hospitalized again this week in her ongoing battle with breast cancer.”
Pray for this wonderful, courageous woman, a TRUE Texan icon.
January 27th, 2007 at 10:35 amevery generation of my family ****LOVES**** that woman!
all of our hearts are with her!
January 27th, 2007 at 10:50 amLike Ann Richards, Molly Ivins, is one of the great ladies of the 20th century. I will pray for a speedy recovery.
January 27th, 2007 at 11:01 amIf Molly Ivins was a Republican columnist like Ann Coulter or Michelle Malkin, would you all wish the same praises and well wishes that Molly Ivins is recieving now?
I don`t think so. There would probably be comments like ” die bitch ” and all the rest.
I can see that only Democratic columnists are worthy of a mention in this blog.
I am glad you people are not doctors. One of your first questions before treating a new patient would be,
” Is she a democrat or a republican ”
This place is rife with forked tongues and double standards.
But I guess I will tough it out and stay here and fight you people for my grandchildren.
January 27th, 2007 at 11:06 amGet well soon Molly. You are missed. And may God protect you and yous always.

Thanks.
Our prayers to Molly Ivans. If you’d like to send a card to Molly, I’m sure Creators Syndicate would be happy to forward it. Here’s the address:

Another proud Republican whose grandchildren will be paying for Bush’s war.
January 27th, 2007 at 11:17 amComment by Joanie Doe — January 27, 2007 @ 11:06 am
Oh, and one more thing. Seeing as how Coulter and Malkin have both sanctioned the deaths of people with whom they disagree, while I wouldn’t wish cancer on anyone (I watched my father-in-law die from it, and am currently watching my mother-in-law slowly die from it), I’d have to say I’m not going to waste my time posting a “get well” message on a progressive or liberal blog to either of these losers, should the owner/administrators of said blogs choose to announce such “news.”
January 27th, 2007 at 11:23 amI love Molly Ivins. I never miss her columns and I never fail to appreciate her incites and points of view. She is one of the few journalists that I count on to provide real news and honesty. Unlike all of the fake commentators on Fox News, Molly always provides truly powerful commentary on subjects of importance to the average American voter. I hope she recovers quickly and returns to the battle. We need her wit and powerful pen.
January 27th, 2007 at 11:27 amGet well, Molly.
You have a shitload of columns to write.
January 27th, 2007 at 11:28 amBless her heart.
January 27th, 2007 at 11:42 amMolly Ivins is truly a patriot of the highest order.
How dare some individuals put her in the same category with (m)Ann Coulter and Michele Malkin. Unlike those she-devils, Molly has always used a fundamental rule of journalism to get her point across: the truth. And, to my knowledge, Molly has never promoted the idea of violence against Republicans, Conservatives, members of the judiciary or people of other faiths just because they disagree with her views.
God speed Molly. You are in my prayers.
January 27th, 2007 at 11:56 amMolly, get well soon.
January 27th, 2007 at 12:02 pmHey B, hows it going?
January 27th, 2007 at 12:07 pmi wondered why i hadn’t seen her much… didn’t know about the cancer…
way too bad… if anyone can fight it, she can…
best wishes to a great lady, and her family!
January 27th, 2007 at 12:14 pmBlessings go out to Molly Iven’s…We love you and appreciate all your wit and insite….Get well soon great lady, we need you…

Do you mean me ([B!])?
Pretty good,Zooey,thanks for asking.
Here is one little tidbit you’ll be learning in your Geology course:
GABBRO: A black,course-grained,intrusive igneous rock, composed of calcic feldspars and pryoxene. The intrusive equivalent of basalt.

Is there any other? :)

I identified that one in lab the other day! Cool.
January 27th, 2007 at 12:54 pmThanks!
Here is something you might have already covered in class,Z.:
Igneous rock: A rock formed by congealing rapidly or slowly from a molten state.
Intrusion: An igneous rock body that has forced its way,in a molten state, into surrounding country rock.
January 27th, 2007 at 1:00 pmMolly is a patriot. Her knowledge and journalistic integrity far eclipse the neoconmen/women who have floated, like pollutant foam, to the surface of our national debate.
And Molly is one reason I will always love Texas, despite that state’s propensity for growing political imbeciles who are then foisted upon the American electorate.
Molly, you are a true American hero. You have been “writing” wrongs for decades, and I hope you will continue to do so, after you knock this latest obstacle back!
January 27th, 2007 at 1:02 pmI love Molly Ivins. She is a woman of character, courage, wit and wisdom. And she is truly one of a kind.
There are political columnists who preach hate among Americans, who encourage violence against fellow Americans, and who use lies and half-truths to promote their ideology.
To compare Ivins to them is like comparing cow dung to a Texas Blue Topaz.
Prayers for her complete recovery.
January 27th, 2007 at 1:02 pmThe best thing that ever happened to Texas except for when George Bush left it. Our thoughts are with you.
January 27th, 2007 at 1:16 pm#4—Actually, I’m fighting you and your type for MY grandchildren.
January 27th, 2007 at 1:16 pmI love Molly Ivins. A beacon of light. Witty, funny, down-to-earth columns. You can send her an email through creators syndicate.com. Go to columnists, then Ivins, then to the bottom of the page for a contact form.
January 27th, 2007 at 1:25 pmOh lord we beseech thee, remove Molly’s cancer and put it in Joanie Doe, so her grandchildren will have a better chance to grow up free of the rabid influence of her hate and bigotry.
January 27th, 2007 at 1:36 pmAnn Coulter and Rush Limbaugh use language to abuse and villify and enrich themselves. They appeal to the worst in us, to divide us against each other, to stop us thinking and deprive us of hope. Joanie Doe’s suggestions are precisely what Ann and Rush do in their daily rants. It’s nothing more than the tired misdirection so favored by Karl Rove, accusing political opponents of having his clients’ own worst traits.
Ms. Ivins is something else entirely. She’s artfully funny. She is bright, empathetic, and down to earth, a comfortable loafer that scorns Ms. Coulter’s stiletto heels. She scorns the hypocrisy Ms. Coulter and Mr. Limbaugh purvey with abandon. No one has a better eye for the common man and woman and child, and the foibles of politicians whose efforts so work against their interests. We should all be a bit more like her.
January 27th, 2007 at 1:37 pmMolly, A cloud of love and courage floats around you, sent by people who care mightily for your health to improve. Being ill is sooo demoralising; the treatmentts, aloof medical “helpers”, machines peering into your here to fore private parts, crappy food ( or something supposed to pass for it) and worrying about the money aspect. If it cures you, all would not have been in vain. The world and Texas will always be there for you as will I, all the way here in Otherside of America(Iowa). You are loved.
January 27th, 2007 at 2:09 pmMy sincerest wishes for Molly’s recovery. there is no reporter male or female with the rapier wit and knowledge of Texas politics. She is also no slouch on the national stage. She holds more than the phony’s feet to the fire. I can’t think of another columnist that can make me laugh out loud while reading her comments skewing a politician or issue. I am absolutely certain she will continue fighting.
January 27th, 2007 at 2:10 pm#29
January 27th, 2007 at 2:17 pmNice tribute.
Long live Molly Ivins.
Joanie Doe, you’re an idiot.
January 27th, 2007 at 2:34 pmBe well, Molly.
“I have been attacked by Rush Limbaugh on the air, an experience somewhat akin to being gummed by a newt. It doesn’t actually hurt, but it leaves you with slimy stuff on your ankle.”
- Molly Ivins
January 27th, 2007 at 2:59 pmMolly, you’re one of my family’s dearest heroes. We will hold you in the light.
January 27th, 2007 at 3:55 pm#34 – alp3
That’s a great quote.
January 27th, 2007 at 4:28 pmMolly, you’re the best. I first fell in love with your wit and knowledge in the Dallas Times Herald. Now in New Hampshire, I still read you in the Portsmouth Herald. Your writing is a rare spot amongst the fluff and non-news, and opinions of the ranters on cable that is disguised as news. Ugh. True reporting comes from research and every one of your articles proves that you are the best. Thank you for keeping me enlightened over the years with your humorous brand of Texanese. Keep on plugging. We need you. Get well soon. You’re in my thoughts and prayers.
January 27th, 2007 at 4:31 pmthank you Molly, I have enjoyed your columns from the first day I read them. I wish you a quick recovery. Know this Molly, we are all in the fight now.
January 27th, 2007 at 4:39 pmSnatched this from Crooks and Liars, who has a post up about Molly:
“I am not anti-gun,” she once said. “I’m pro-knife.”
She went on to explain why, in the context of gun control: “Consider the merits of the knife. In the first place, you have to catch up with someone in order to stab him. A general substitution of knives for guns would promote physical fitness. We’d turn into a whole nation of great runners. Plus, knives don’t ricochet. And people are seldom killed while cleaning their knives.”
January 27th, 2007 at 4:59 pmGet well soon, Molly!
January 27th, 2007 at 5:00 pmI met Molly once at the Unitarian Church in Burlington, Vermont. She was taking a smoke break after raising some hell in that stately sanctuary. I asked her to autograph my book and she wrote “Keep Raising Hell”. God bless you Molly and keep walking the good road wherever that may lead you now.
January 27th, 2007 at 5:55 pmMolly yours is the collumn I look for.and I wondered why I could not find it. You are so right on and you have gone from humor to absolutely serious and so justfied. Beat this disease! You are a credit to this country. The voice of reason strong and to the point. I honor you and want so much that you recover. You have done so much but we still need you. Respectfully Mary Ann Clawson Crockett CA
January 27th, 2007 at 6:31 pmMolly Ivins is a good person. I got to speak with her years ago about writing an article in the Texas Star Telegram about the problems in Haiti.
January 27th, 2007 at 8:16 pmMolly, your voice is a beacon of light. You are a true champion. If any one can battle and win you can! All my best, Malissa
January 27th, 2007 at 8:18 pmJoanie,
I wonder if you hang around other funerals to heckle. Would you heckle supporters after right-wing columnists are terribly ill. Sounds like a double standard to me.
As for me, I’m off to hang out at the right-wing blogs and wait for a cheney ill story. No, wait. Maybe I’ll just not do that and say a prayer for you and your grandchildren.
January 27th, 2007 at 8:51 pmIf i had her email address,I could send her some alternate cancer cures thle likely to any allopathic md.at work but would not be acceptab
January 27th, 2007 at 10:36 pmNo, I never said that re this person before-never.
January 27th, 2007 at 10:37 pmMay God Bless You and Keep You Safe, I think you are great.
January 27th, 2007 at 11:13 pmMolly, you have been a shining example of courage in these dark days. When the world seemed to be crumbling around our ears, and the corporate facists seemed to be tightening their greasy fingers around the neck of civilization, a Molly Ivins article would always give me hope that there was still a voice shouting from the mountaintop letting us know that liberty still had a pulse. You will always be in my prayers Ms Ivins. Keep fighting the good fight, lord knows we still need you here on earth!
January 27th, 2007 at 11:33 pmMolly, I’ve admired you since my bumbling attempts at being a TCLU secretary in 1974 across the hall from the Texas Observer office and you and Kay and Ann kept us in stitches. The government lies, bigotry and injustice we fought then pales in comparison to Bush’s attempts, these few recent years, to undermine every single tenet this country was founded on. For years, you’ve also kept me in hope as one of 4 or 5 voices of sanity in this country. We lost Barbara Jordan way too many years ago. As far as Im concerned Texas went sliding into an abyss as soon as shrub became governer and we lost Ann Richard’s brilliant leadership. Now she’s gone, too. I don’t know if the primary cause of my second bout with breast cancer is lack of a job, insurance and money for over 3 years (like it was the first time around, when ReaganBush Sr were running things). Or if cancer is contagious and epidemic, during Republican rule, among populations of people who can’t stand to see people dying, whether in stupid wars, unprepared- for hurricanes, or individually in the thousands due to the violence, anomie, and lack of health care, homes, and a living wage. You have to pull through. For me you are like that one last leaf on the tree in the famous O’Henry short story. If I lose you too, my ability to fight through my despair and try to keep fighting my own invasive breast cancer. Please beat all the odds and stay alive and yelling and kicking the butts that need kicking — and inspiring those of us who need your insight and especially your ability to still keep us doubled over in gut bustin laughter in the face of pure evil.
January 27th, 2007 at 11:47 pmSusan
Your intelligence and wit are treasures. Thanks for sharing them. Get well. God Bless.
January 28th, 2007 at 12:52 am“Pray for this wonderful, courageous woman”
She is neither!
January 28th, 2007 at 1:22 amEat shit and die, michael.
January 28th, 2007 at 2:50 ammichael, is that the compassionate conservative we here so much about? Glad to see you practice those family values. Good for you little mikey, don’t have to follow any rules just bash away. Your morals were sucked out of you during the indoctrination.
troll does fit you. go back under the bridge and live in darkness.
January 28th, 2007 at 4:36 amA woman has cancer and some “compasionate conservatives” are pleased with that? Where are your morals? Where is your sense of religion on which you righties claim to have a monopoly?
Perhaps if she started a war under false pretenses, abused perscription drugs, will have a child to raise with her lesbian lover, used obsenities on the floor of congress, outted a CIA agent or wanted to poison a Supreme Court Justice that would be OK.
You could pray for her then.
Attorney Joseph Welsh was right 50 plus years ago when he asked Senator McCarthy (and I ask Republicans now): “Have you no shame?”
January 28th, 2007 at 8:06 amMolly is a great lady and, in the tradition of this great nation,
speaks on behalf of the voiceless. She is part and parcel of the
home of the free and land of the brave. Fight the fight Molly and
come back to give ‘em heck.
BTW, if it were Ann Coulter, I would say “die bitch.”
January 28th, 2007 at 9:09 amAh, Molly, your “cockeyed optimism” many times kept me going when I’d despair of any sense and humanity from, first, the Texas Lege when you were at the Texas Observer in Austin, and then, later writing for the New York Times as you covered the western states from your perch in Denver. When many of the rest of us got weary — Sissy Farenthold missed out on being elected governor back then, and the national Equal Rights Amendment to the U. S. Constitution failed — but wow! You were in the right and just kept on a’coming, girl. Finally, didn’t Miss Ann really show ‘em and you had a national reputation! There are women not yet born who have benefited from your brilliance and your sass and vinegar. Hang in there, girl — we’re pulling for you!
January 28th, 2007 at 2:04 pmDon’t give up, Molly. That’s what my doctors told me when I was diagnosed with lung cancer. And it’s worked. After surgery, radiation, and chemo, I’m in remission. You can do it! Much love and respect.
January 28th, 2007 at 3:11 pmMolly is solid proof of the truism that prophets go oft unacknowledged. She wrote and talked, all but screamed, about what a disaster “Shrub” had been, was, and certainly would be. Did we listen? Not enough of us.
Blessed be girl. You fought the good fight.
January 28th, 2007 at 4:45 pmCourage, Molly, Courage! We will always need your voice.
January 29th, 2007 at 1:02 pmThank you for your fearless defense of what is good and what is right, and for setting an example we can and must follow.
To the woman I would most like to have a beer with. Get well Molly!
January 29th, 2007 at 7:12 pmWe need you.
Goodbye Molly, We’ll miss you. Keep raising hell up there in heaven.
February 1st, 2007 at 8:50 amIvins was a phony who will be forgotten before she is even chucked into the Texas dirt. Now only the worms will be forced to tolerate her.
February 2nd, 2007 at 9:05 amLately I’d been feeling down, but when I heard of the death of Molly Ivins death, my sprit rose. When I first learned of her battle with cancer, my first thought was “good”, I only hope she suffers a long and painful death. The thought of her, right at this minute rotting in hell just gives me comfort. I do however wish she had suffered a little while longer. She’s where she belongs, with all the other liberals, in Hell…….Let’s face it, she was human filth, like all liberals, pure garbage.
February 4th, 2007 at 4:17 pmROT IN HELL YOU FILTHY LIBERAL. !!!!
February 4th, 2007 at 4:18 pmI am amazed and forlorn at some of the comments here. To wish pain and suffering on anyone because you don’t agree with their politics is unforgivable and unconscionable.
February 4th, 2007 at 10:41 pmMolly Ivins was first and foremost a human being and deserves more than that. She also was brave and courageous. She did not attack others anonymously like some of the posters here. She wrote about her beliefs and in her own name. If you didn’t agree with them you didn’t need to read them.
Take care, all you who judge and throw stones. Your turn will come.
Rest in peace, Molly. You will be remembered.
I don’t understand how Molly even made it in a newspaper, except for the fact that maybe editors love reading unhinged liberal screed. Her columns consisted of nothing but mindless and continuous partisan criticism and oh so witty and snide remarks. Her columns added nothing to the public discourse. Her “legacy” amounts to virtually nothing.
February 17th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
