With encouragement from the Sunlight Foundation, Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) now posts his schedule online at the end of each day. “Whether it’s a visit to the gym, a meeting with the founder of the Montana Meth Project, or an interview with Wolf Blitzer, staff for Tester post his entire schedule online each workday — a Senate first.” Check it out HERE.
Brilliant… sounds like a wonderful new standard practice that should be universally adopted by the whole crew.
January 27th, 2007 at 10:42 amTransparency. What a concept!
Cheney on CNN last Wednesday struck me like a book Thomas Harris would write and he’d call it HALLIBURTON RISING.
January 27th, 2007 at 11:08 amTester is doing this so no ” hired guns ” in the repub party can come up with shit to pin on him.
It is all part of the ” public record ” this way. It keeps him safe from repub character assassination and nefarious shenanigans.
January 27th, 2007 at 11:12 amTransparency is a nice idea; however, the congressional abdication which allowed this democracy to be hijacked is unconscionable and unforgivable! They were aware of the increased presidential usurpation of power and yet they abdicated their responsibilities to the people and enabled it. Anyone who voted to enable this maniac to take us into an illegal war (and continues to be enabled) need not run for any public office – let alone the presidency. Hindsight is always 20/20 and they all botched their obligation to the people in the run up to this war. For this, they all need to be reprimanded in the form of “No support” for their candidacy. This will show them what it means to represent the american people and do whatever homework is necessary to make the right decisions.
We’ve had 6 years of horrendous errors in judgment by this administration; what we certainly DO NOT need is another term of bad judgment and hindsight doesn’t count for much when over half of the american public along with the ENTIRE rest of the world say “no” to this war and these nincompoops and idiots voted “Yes”….
And, here’s the biggie in this equation: While the rest of the world said no along with half of the american population, they did so believing the cherry-picked intel that he might have WMD’s! Folks….this is huge! So, even in the face of the possibility/probability of Saddam having WMD’s, these congressmen went against the intelligence of the american people and the rest of the world and knuckled under to this dictator. For what reason?
Here’s the list of Congressional Enablers (who appear to think they should run for President): JOHN (FLIPPER) MC CAIN, JOE LIEBERMAN, JOHN KERRY, HILLARY CLINTON, JOHN EDWARDS
Now here’s the list of people who had the intelligence and credibility to stand up for what they believed and say “no” to this egomaniac: RUSS FEINGOLD, WESLEY CLARK, AND BARAK OBAMA, and DENNIS KUSINICH
The american people in 08 will let the enablers know that they disserved them and are not qualified to hold the higest office in this country.
GORE/OBAMA OBAMA/FEINGOLD – Both have a great ring!
January 27th, 2007 at 11:30 amI think tester’s senate term should be much shorter than 6 years. not because I don’t like him but because I want to see him debate again! :)
January 27th, 2007 at 11:44 amif you don’t have yet watch the debates against burns, especially (I think) the first one with very little moderation in a small venue.
Kudos to Jon Tester! And a great big THANK YOU to the people of Montana who voted for him.
Now if we could just get Schumer and Clinton in NY to follow by example.
January 27th, 2007 at 11:45 amKudos to Jon Tester! And a big THANK YOU to the people in Montana who voted for him.
If only the people of New York could get Schumer and Clinton to follow by example.
January 27th, 2007 at 11:48 amGood for Tester! I wonder what a typical Cheney day is like? That huge pile of human bones and remains outside of his office is a contemporary art sculpture- right?
January 27th, 2007 at 11:48 amThat’s cool. I’m moving to Montana with Sharon.
January 27th, 2007 at 11:54 amGood for Jon Tester! At last an elected public official who understands he is responsible to the people who elected him. Maybe this will start a nationwide trend.
January 27th, 2007 at 12:07 pmYippie!, Zooey, you can help me plant trees and run with the Bear…..We will get everything ready for your arrival and then we can go on site seeing trip’s all over the state… I am looking forward to going home….One more year and I’m outta here……Blessings
January 27th, 2007 at 12:19 pmHey Sharon,
Montana is not gonna know what hit it.
We are The Oncoming Storm.
:-)
January 27th, 2007 at 12:28 pmWait — The Oncoming Storm (TM)
Heh.
January 27th, 2007 at 12:28 pmThis should be made manditory… They work for us and we have a right to keep tabs on what they are doing each day on our dime.
January 27th, 2007 at 12:38 pmBack at you Zooey, Montana and her people will love to see us….Most are the old time conservatives, not neo con’s, down to earth kind of people that listen and accept libral thinking and ideas with value…..Common sence dictates their strong resolve and hard winters make all neighbors like family….Except in water right war’s they are the most civil and caring people I have ever met any where….
Off to do my tree stuff today….CNN has been running some coverage on the Peace march…
January 27th, 2007 at 12:48 pmBlessings all
The more our representatives do this, as well as video pod casts, the less they’ll have to spend on advertising for re-election. The use of the internet for communication between our representatives and the people they’re supposed to serve will be a major boon for all of the country.
January 27th, 2007 at 1:15 pmPlease note that this was actually done first by Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand as follow-up to one of her early campaign pledges to bring ethics and transparency to Washington.
To the bet of my knowledge Senator Tester and Representative Gillibrand are the only folks in Congress doing this.
Please contact your Senators and Representatives and encourage them to follow suit.
January 27th, 2007 at 1:59 pmI don’t think Hillary will go for the transparency concept with all of her baggage and skeletons!
January 27th, 2007 at 2:48 pmI love this approach by Tester and Gillibrand. Although it is somewhat gimmicky, I really do believe that it’s important for members of Congress to communicate with their constituents how they are using their time. I suspect we’ll be seeing more of this from other dedicated, hard-working politicians, and more excuses and finger-pointing from those who choose to do their business behind closed doors.
January 27th, 2007 at 4:41 pmHave to agree with Andrew, contacting other Senators is the only way to get this going.
January 27th, 2007 at 7:42 pmThis is great news from an honest man!! Good for you Mr. Tester. We need more of this! We need more sunshine beaming down on our government!!
BEWARE! Others will take this idea and bastardize it!! They will post lies and continue to ph*ck all of us again and again and again….Isn’t this a blog? How can you verify a blog?
I like what you’ve done Mr. Tester. I’m sure your fresh thinking will be stolen and used against the public. It’s very sad.
January 27th, 2007 at 7:49 pmBeautiful… I’m lovin these new Dems… Webb from VA and now Tester from MT.
January 27th, 2007 at 8:38 pmFinally, a Senator with accountability.
January 27th, 2007 at 8:39 pmThis is the part of the nation that the new Democrats are coming from and this is why Bill Richardson, Govenor of New Mexico stands a good chance of winning the primary and winning the general election. Hillary will never pull in enough votes to win the general election.
January 27th, 2007 at 8:41 pmThe wingers will just say that the meetings are not labeled accurately because that is how the GOP handles business. “The Bay of Pigs thing” in the Nixon tapes, for instance, or the array of cynically named pressure groups, lobbying agencies, and think-tanks with Orwellian names.
