Bush: Cheney Is A ‘Half-Glass-Full’ Kinda Guy»

cheneyglass1.jpg Last week, Vice President Cheney said that the United States has “had enormous successes and we will continue to have enormous successes” in Iraq. This claim contradicted President Bush’s speech two weeks ago, where he said the “situation in Iraq is unacceptable to the American people — and it is unacceptable to me.”

Today on NPR, senior correspondent Juan Williams asked Bush whether there’s a “conflicting message” between Bush and Cheney. Bush brushed him off, saying that Cheney is a “person reflecting a half-glass-full mentality.” (We’re assuming he meant “glass half full.”) Listen here:

Here are some recent examples of Cheney’s “half-glass-full” views of Iraq:

“I think we have made significant progress.” [1/27/07]

“If you look at what’s transpired in Iraq, Chris, we’ve made enormous progress.” [1/14/07]

Before the war, this mentality also led the Vice President to predict that the United States would be “greeted as liberators” in Iraq.

Digg It!

Transcript:

WILLIAMS: Well another question about Vice President Cheney. He said last week that– here I’m quoting, “We’ve encountered enormousness successes and we continue to have successes in Iraq.” Two weeks ago you said, “There haven’t been enough successes in Iraq.” So it seems like there is a conflicting message there.

BUSH: Oh I don’t think so; I think the VP is a person expressing a half-glass-full mentality. And that is, he’’s been able to look at — as have I and I hope other Americans have — the fact that the tyrant was removed, 12 million people voted and an Iraqi constitution is in place that is a model for — and is unique — for the Middle East.

  1. RUCerious Says:

    Half full of blood, yes.

  2. Roger_Roger Says:

You can’t have success’ and yet have a situation that is unacceptable? I fail to understand what TP is saying. You can certainly have success yet find yourself in a place not acceptable. It simply requires new success’.

  3. RUCerious Says:

Krazny - what was that? Some kind of telepathy?

  4. hellinabucket Says:

Good one’s RuCerious and Krazny. When I think of the eternal optimist I naturally look to Darth Cheney. He is always so cheerful, non violent and soft spoken. Those rumors about swearing on the Senate floor or firing a weapon into a man’s face are just hogwash.

I hear Rosanne Rosannadanna telling this story and finishing with “Nevermind”.

    jeeeesh.

  5. AK47 Says:

186 Ton Shot - Paladin ASP outside Fallujah, Iraq.

CHECK THIS WEAPON USED IN NEAR FALLUJA … ITS LIKE A NUKE BOMB

can anyone tell me what this weapon is

  6. bk Says:

The only way this would be true is if THERE IS NO GLASS.

  7. Your Conscience Says:

Pathetic! Listen to the recording and you have the Retard in Chief straining to articulate the expression. Even then he butches what is a common benign expression “The glass is half full.”

Instead he stutters with “person reflecting a half-glass-full mentality.”

Can we get that mental health Assessment yet?

  8. DenverOasis Says:

Gosh I can’t wait until the end of Bushisms, no matter how entertaining some of them have been.

  9. DM Says:

    Really? A “glass-half-full” guy?

Maybe it’s just me, but I always saw Cheney as a “smash the top of the glass off on the bar and threaten to cut your throat out with the jagged edge if you didn’t hand over 800 billion in oil profits” kind of guy.

  10. Raven Says:

We know Dubious is desperate and clutching at straws when he agrees to an interview with NPR..

I heard it this morning, and the careful and deliberate utterance of the “half -glass full” line was priceless….
He was sooo close to blowing it… anyone checked on KKKarl lately?

  11. Your Conscience Says:

AK47, 186 Ton Shot is an upgraded daisey cutter and being tested for options for Iran facilities.

  12. GodfryDaniel Says:

Cheney is a “person reflecting a half-glass-full mentality.” (We’re assuming he meant “glass half full.”)

My God, this poor man can’t get anything right.

  13. johnnyk Says:

The fat little coward is half a loaf short of a sandwich.
How does he take a leak in the morning?
The Selective Service Board tried and couldn’t find his dick.

  14. cynical ex-hippie Says:

Just the kind of glass half full guy you would want to follow into battle.

Soldier take that hill. It’s not crawling with mines and sniper fire, it’s going remarkably well! That kill zone I order you into is in its last throes.

  15. Wayne Says:

    Half full of blood, yes.
    — RUCerious

Puppy blood, only fresh blood from a wide eyed, innocent puppy keeps Darth Cheney’s heart pumping, don’t ya know?

  16. Doc Hockory Says:

Mr Sunny Optimism! Yes sir, that’s Our Cheney!

Old Dick “Turn your frown upside-down” Cheney can’t help but be bubbly and optimistic! It’s in his nature!

I read in TigerBeat that his #1 Pet Peeve is “gloomy gusses”!

  17. Raven Says:

Or, on second thought, maybe he really did blow it
Perhaps he was supposed to say:
    “I think the VP is a person expressing a half-assed fool mentality….”

  18. Your Conscience Says:

The half glass is full so it brimming with goodness? If it is a half glass is it a shot glass? Since it is full then mission accomplished, it cannot be more full . Time to send the boys home and have the parade.

    Heckuva job Chimpy

  19. Joe Sixpack Says:

Bush brushed him off, saying that Cheney is a “person reflecting a half-glass-full mentality.”

Maybe he was trying to say is that Cheney is a “person reflecting a half-assed, full of shit mentality.”

  20. KarlX Says:

    Roger
i see this TP’s post here as more humorous rather than substanative; but the point Juan Williams is making is that the Vice president continues with his blabbering “positive” b.s. about Iraq whilst Bush isn’t even trying to do that anymore - these can easily be defined as a: Conflicting messages
(despite the logic you pointed out, that it is conceivably possible to have success and an unacceptable situation)

but the real point: Iraq descends into civil war caused by actions coerced throug lies, majority of americans want the occupation ended and you have the president talking about the sitaution being unacceptable (so we’ll send more troops) and the vice president talking about there being many success in Iraq… blablabla

  21. AK47 Says:

    12/ Your Conscience

Thanks, Daisy Cutters were for clearing forest Areas originaly so helicopters can land in makeshift forests .. what a weapon ,, Not nice though

  23. GSD Says:

    Half full of lies.

    -GSD

  24. Spudge_Boy Says:

You can’t call the glass half full if there are only two drops of liquid in it.

  25. hellinabucket Says:

He is a positive thinker. He’s wrong so many times but he’s positive about it.

  26. GSD Says:

Maybe the class is half full of shit.

    -GSD

  27. Tom Says:

In actuality, Dick the Prick is just like GDumbya. They’re both glass-totally-empty kinda guys. All alcoholics are.

  28. Marcus Robinson Says:

I think “The Chimp” meant to say “Cheney is a my bank account is half full” type of guy.

  29. SouthWest Bob Says:

It seems that the VP’s office lost control of bush giving the message that “All is well on the Iraq front,” and they are working OT to cover the constant prezidental goofs. The only problem for cheney is that he prefers to have others deliver his messages so now, who is going to give him any consideration? The timing is interesting, especially with the trial facts that are coming out on a daily basis and officially confirm his reputation as a liar.

  30. roger_inkart Says:

Cheney knows that the ‘librul media’ will parrot his lies about Iraq without the smallest amount of scrutiny. Morons like Blitzer will let him run right over them while letting the veep get away with his dishonesty and arrogance.

What can you do? The MSM isn’t suddenly going to grow a spine or a brain. The Bush administration won’t change. The Dems can’t or won’t do jack about Iraq. All we can do is just count down the days until these loathsome vermin leave office. Then it’ll be time to begin the clean up of the toxic mess they left behind.

  31. Hedley Lamarr Says:

Seeing what he does with “Fool me once” and “Half-full glass”, we’re now waiting for aWol to butcher the “Do unto others” saying.

  32. Gregor Samsa Says:

You can certainly have success yet find yourself in a place not acceptable.
    Comment by Roger_Roger — January 29, 2007 @ 3:03 pm

Right. Because we all know success so often leads to unacceptable situations. So unacceptable, in fact, Pres Bush have to mention the word “mistake” in the same breath.

And I bet you think sound policy decisions inevitably lead to some of the biggest military blunders in history.

Keep lowering the bar, Roger*2 -you are doing a great job.

  33. Earthling Says:

    Full of sh*t.

  34. Dumb_Fox Says:

    WTF? Half-glass full mentality?

Trust an empty vessel to say something that dumb.

  35. DRxJ Says:

Bush brushed him off, saying that Cheney is a “person reflecting a half-glass-full mentality.”

Maybe he meant to say half-assed full of shit mentality? Maybe.

  36. RUCerious Says:

Could it be the chymp meant
a half ass gas bag full?

  37. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) Says:

“Half-a**ed, fully mental” is how my tired and/or warped mind first scanned the headline. Not far from the truth, except “half-a**ed” is an upgrade.

  38. dattexa Says:

    definitely a martini glass.

  39. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) Says:

You can certainly have success yet find yourself in a place not acceptable...Comment by Roger_Roger —

Sure, if you find financial and power success by doing things that are unacceptable to others in the world but not to you. And BTW BushCo didn’t “find” themselves in this position. They put themselves there.

  40. hellinabucket Says:

Just consider the source. Bush said this.

  41. Armando Gomez Says:

What do expect from a vice-president who is half-assed about everything.

  42. Zooey Says:

Enourmous success = “Dick’s” fat wallet is wearing a callus on his ass.

  43. Raven Says:

He must carry that wallet in his left back pocket…… it’s pinching the sciatic nerve on that side……..

  44. Boy Genius Says:

What Bush meant to say was Cheney was a “Half-Ass-Fool” kinda guy.

  45. futureStar Says:

If the one is half full, the other must be half empty which combined together would give us one complete numbskull. Gee, aren’t we lucky and rich in national leaders?

  46. Tobey Tall Says:

“I don’t understand what America has turned into. We kill children and think nothing of it. The United States should be on trail for mass murder. I know you will not use this and I don’t care but Bush and company will someday sent to jail for what they have done. And no I don’t support the troops seems like to me they love the art of killing and don’t care who it is.”

  47. stefan Says:

Cheney is actually right to feel optimistic since, from his perspective, the war IS going well: The contractors are making a zillion bucks with little effort - thanks to the US taxpayer. Nobody HE knows has even been scratched, we’re killing lots of foreigners, the US will have bases in the Middle East for a long time and the price of oil is sky high. What’s there for HIM to complain about?

  48. RSA Says:

Last week, Vice President Cheney said that the United States has “had enormous successes and we will continue to have enormous successes” in Iraq. This claim contradicted President Bush’s speech two weeks ago, where he said the “situation in Iraq is unacceptable to the American people — and it is unacceptable to me.”

There’s a clear and consistent way to reconcile these two statements: Enormous successes in Iraq are unacceptable to the American people and unacceptable to the President. Does that make sense? Well, it’s Bush and Cheney talking, so I’d have to say No.

  49. Stevious Says:

Bush and Cheney, the King and Queen of denial.

  50. devin Says:

Both bush & cheney together make two glasses full of bulls***!!

  51. KarlX Says:

    stefan,
that is a good point; excpet for popular opinion the war is “enormously succesfull”.

The image I have is a Half of glass that is full; kind of lowering the expectations rational like Roger*2

  52. unbelievable Says:

You can certainly have success yet find yourself in a place not acceptable.
    Comment by Roger_Roger — January 29, 2007 @ 3:03 pm

Only if you grow a conscience….

These sociopaths have no such thing.

  53. j swift Says:

If it is his plan, well hell, it is half full even when empty.

  54. unbelievable Says:

What’s there for HIM to complain about?
    Comment by stefan — January 29, 2007 @ 4:14 pm

Good point! From where he resides, it is all good news.

  55. veritas Says:

The adage: Half glass full simply doesn’t cut it when it means that someone is lying through his teeth. Denial is not just a river in Egypt! Obviously, Cheney is lying again!!

  56. veritas Says:

But, then, Cheney is a “half glass full” kind-of-guy….his booze glass was always “half full” on the day of his hunting trip where he was so impaired that he shot his buddy in the face….so, yes, one would have to “literally” say that Cheney’s glass is always “half full” …..

  57. Joanie Doe ©®™ Says:

Bush: Cheney Is A ‘Half-Glass-Full’ Kinda Guy

Cheney: Bush Is A `Half Glass Empty ” Kinda Guy When It Copmes To Drinking

  58. veritas Says:

How can Bush continue to look like such a jackass when he has to make up these idiotic, inane lies to cover the butts of his cronies and misfits? He looks like a bigger fool doing it. Is there no nadir to which this guy will stoop to making himself look like a bigger buffoon?

  59. rail Says:

“Cheney is a ‘person reflecting a half-glass-full mentality.’”

Bush is a “person reflecting a half-brain-full mentality.”

  60. veritas Says:

Cheney’s heart condition is technically responsible for not pumping enough blood to his brain - hence, his narcolepsia when attending speech-related functions….he’s suffering from senile dementia and is impaired most of the time. Now he’s delusional at best in making this ridiculously untrue statement (does he think people are as out of touch as he is?)…..senile at worst!

  61. ForTruth Says:

Yeah, his glass pipe is only half full, someone load him up.

  62. Rosencrantz Says:

Saying a glass that is actually half-full is “half-full” is being an optimist. Cheney is offering people a glass that is empty, or almost-empty and trying to convince them they should be greatful they are getting so much to drink.

    That’s just flat-out lying.

  63. ForTruth Says:

Bush looks like he just ripped a big ol’ stinky one, and the crowd has yet to smell it.

  64. rail Says:

Cheney is a “person reflecting a half-glass-full mentality.”

After hearing our “leaders” speak like this, we’re all bound to be persons with half glass full mentalities…as in, “Bartender, gimme half a glass of [Jack, Jim, {name yer poison}]”

  65. veritas Says:

Are Dumbo’s ears getting larger and more pointed or his head shrinking? Just wondering…??

  66. impeachcheneythenbush Says:

Cheney and all the other war profiteers have had, indeed, enormous successes. No doubt that that. It’s just that the American people, over 3,000 dead troops, 22,000 injured troops, and 600,000 dead and injured Iraqi ciizens haven’t been having so much success.

Push for impeachment and conviction of both of them. We are running out of time!

  67. ForTruth Says:

Cheney has to lie all the time, there’s no other way for him to interface with the human race.

  68. Rebel In CA Says:

I am sorry Mr. President; was that “half-glass-full” or “Half-ass-fool”?

  69. CoffinsDrapedWithFlags Says:

Yes, Cheney is half full of lies and half full of insanity. Now, Bush, he is a full kind of guy… fully illiterate, fully insane, fully full of lies, fully stupid and fully a dry drunk.

  70. GodfryDaniel Says:

Isn’t it great to live in country run by complete nincompoops?

  71. wmd Says:

    HECK OF A JOB DICKY.
(Followed shortly by VP being fired)

  72. Karim Says:

Another nugget of delusion by das fuhrer

  73. AlphaLiberal Says:

I think people are being awfully hard ont he shrub. Maybe he was trying to be honest and meant to say Cheney is a “Half-ass…”

See how easy it is to give a man the benefit of the doubt?

  74. Jay Randal Says:

No Bush fool, Cheney is a creepy criminal kinda guy!

  75. ben Says:

    46. What Bush meant to say was Cheney was a “Half-Ass-Fool” kinda guy.

That is exactly what I was thinking when I read this.

  76. Badger Says:

that NPR interview was amazing. without a script, Bush really sounds bad. Especially with questions he hasn’t rehersed an answer for. Deer in the Headlights.

  77. katy Says:

juan also pointed out dubya’s mistake, many times over, of referring to the “DEMOCRAT party”… knowing full well it’s the DEMOCRATIC PARTY, he has only repeated what he’s been drilled…
and tried to blame texas… “i don’t pronounce words real good” (paraphrased)

  78. Coffins draped in flags Says:

Well, katy, since Bush keeps saying the Democrat Party, I keep saying the Republic Party. It’s that simple :)

  79. sluggo Says:

“You know, Juan, Dick’s gotta a haffa glass full mentality. Kinda like when you shoot your hunting partner’s face into prime chuck with buckshot and he almostest dies, but he don’t. Then from his blood-soaked hospital bed apologies to YOU, and guess what? Tomorrow will be another sunny quail huntin’ day.

Or when you tell your chief of staff to lie to invest’gators about some spy thinga-mah-bobble. Fool gets his-self indicted and put on trial AND YOU DON’TIT! Magiclistical. Gotta love the guy.

Speakin’ of glass half-full, top me off with a little Jack, wontcha?”

  80. circusfifthfloor Says:

Back Your Watch, Smirkey. Chensaw will ruin your presidency..

  81. Granola Hippy Says:

    Half glass full? Uhh…okay…

You know, if I could shoot an old man in the face, screw the country and not even pretend to do otherwise and get away with everything I did I’d be a “half glass full” kind of guy myself.

  82. ForTruth Says:

Well at least Cheney didn’t kill the old man…

  83. GRex Says:

The glass was really entirely full the day before. Cheney took 3 shots at it and still only hit half the glass.

That’s what Bush was really talking about.

  84. Miles Green Says:

This comment is far less damaging than Bush’s response to a question from an enlisted man. The question “What do we do if sending in more troops doesn’t work?” Bush replied “A lot of people are looking at this in a negative way, We need to move ahead feeling like it’s going to work…” There is the biggest argument against the plan. There is no plan in place if it doesn’t work. That’s what got us into this mess in the first place. Are we expecting this group of 21,500 to be greeted as liberators? If you want to embolden the enemy keep up this kind of wishfull thinking. They are eating it up. Why hasn’t the press picked up on this. Headline “Bush asks American People to “feel” like this is going to work.”

  85. lawton Says:

Being a half full glass guy is why the republican women polled said Mr. dick was a sexy guy .Who would have believed it ?

  86. lawton Says:

Good one Ben ! Got real good laugh outa that one.

  87. Patti Eisenhut Says:

Mr. Cheney knows the facts and sees the progress that is truly being made in Iraq…yes its not complete yet…we are fighting an unconventional enemy…we will probably be fighting them for the remainder of our lives…they are training their children that we are no better than animals and we should be killed. I’d rather them be fighting it out over there than over here. After reading thru call the comments there is not one comment
from someone that has looked at the facts and they are only spoken in
bumper stickers that do not have America’s best interest in mind but just enjoy feeding their hateful spirits.

May God Bless America and Each and Everyone of You.
I hope you will be enlightened someday.

  88. jumpinin Says:

    Patti Eisenhut -

Rather than fight them in Iraq, why not Afghanistan? Why not Egypt (where most of the 911 hijackers were from)? Why not Saudi Arabia (where most of the 911 hijackers got their passports)? Why Iraq? What did the people of Iraq (now that Saddam is gone) ever do to deserve this?

  89. jumpinin Says:

As for Cheney he’s always seemed like such a cheery optimistic glass-half-full kind of guy.

  90. M. Bouffant Says:

    #s 6, 12 & 22:
AK47, it’s not a weapon, it’s the disposal of 186 tons of, I assume, Iraqi explosives, you know, the ones they left unguarded after the rush to Baghdad so they could be grabbed by the “insurgents” and used against our boys & girls. I googled “Paladin ASP,” turns out that’s some kind of base near Fallujah. See mohaa2ndcorps.com/gallery.

  91. W. N. Wigington Says:

Cheney would make a top knotch dictator. He has been pulling President Bush’s strings since day one.

  92. Paul Says:

The war has been a great success. The portfolios of this bunch have never looked better.

  93. Janet Says:

    What an ass!

  94. Ignis Sol Says:

Where is the other half of the glass? Oh, it is the empty one, y’know the one for gays and Latinos…

  95. Tomek Says:
