Protestor Demands Probe Of White House Over Katrina, Lieberman Responds He Won’t ‘Play Gotcha Anymore’

liebermanYesterday, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, chaired by Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-CT), held a field hearing in New Orleans to discuss the “red tape and bureaucracy hindering Louisiana’s economic recovery from hurricanes Katrina and Rita.” At the outset of the hearing, a protestor called for investigating the White House. Here’s how CNN described the scene:

Susan Roesgen, CNN Correspondent: A protester, a well-dressed young man — he was wearing a white dress shirt and a tie. No one suspected anything was amiss. He stood up. He was holding a hand-lettered piece of cloth that said, “Probe the White House.”

He was shouting, shouting at the senators, as you see here. … But what this person was protesting was he said that Senator Lieberman needs to do more and should do more to lead a federal investigation of the White House response to Hurricane Katrina similar to the 9/11 Commission hearings. He said that has not been done, he wants that to be done.

There are still key questions left unanswered about the administration’s disaster response. Former FEMA chief Michael Brown said that in a still-secret videoconference shortly after Katrina hit New Orleans, he warned presidential aides that 90 percent of the city was being “displaced,” but was greeted with “deafening silence.” Brown also suggested “party politics played a role” in White House reactions to the aftermath of Katrina.

When he was running for re-election, Lieberman pledged to investigate the White House’s conduct in the aftermath of Katrina. But, Newsweek recently reported:

Sen. Joe Lieberman, the only Democrat to endorse President Bush’s new plan for Iraq, has quietly backed away from his pre-election demands that the White House turn over potentially embarrassing documents relating to its handling of the Hurricane Katrina disaster in New Orleans.

Lieberman said he was not interested in “looking back, and assigning blame would be a waste of Congress’ time.” Responding to yesterday’s protestor, Lieberman said, “We don’t want to play ‘gotcha’ anymore.”

  1. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

Who’s this “we”, Mr. Lieberman? I want to play “gotcha” as long as there is a person who is trying not to get “gotcha-ed” and is continuing to engage in “gotcha” behavior. Gotcha that?

  2. RUCerious says:

No gotcha, just the usual grabass from Senator Lie-berman (I-Israel)

  3. Joe Sixpack says:

What a boot-licking lackey. The people of Connecticut who sent this sad disappointment back to the the Senate for another term as one of Bush’s bitches should consider a recall petition.

  4. Marie says:

    Ass-kissing traitorous, double-crosser.
Oh no! He wants to look forward — no investigating the Bush screw up in NO — people died. Too bad. Can’t embarrass George & friends.
The people of Connecticut who voted for this POS should be ashamed they kept him in office.

  5. Jay Randal says:

Why is Sen. Obama in that pic with Traitor Joe Lieberman? Somebody needs to tell Obama that Lieberman is NOT a Democrat and even being seen with him could destroy his chance to become president!

  6. hit_escape says:

Looking forward to playing “Gotcha” with Lie-berman in 2009 when he looses his pedastal and is in the minority.

  7. tarazan says:

Of course for a guy like Lieberman it is ‘waste of time’ to see what went wrong, and were the billions of dollars allocated to Katrina disaster went? He does not think he should open files and look into what went wrong…Sad ,but what do you expect from a guy who sold his own party to keep his own seat? and now he is making threats that he will vote Republican. No surprise there…!

  8. TripMaster Monkey says:

Lieberman said he was not interested in “looking back, and assigning blame would be a waste of Congress’ time.” Responding to yesterday’s protestor, Lieberman said, “We don’t want to play ‘gotcha’ anymore.”

Translation: We don’t do ‘accountability’ at Congress.

Lie-berman is an excellent example of what is wrong with this country.

  9. TripMaster Monkey says:

Oh yes, because the 9/11 Commission cleared all that mess up nicely, didn’t it?

    </snark>

  10. Art says:

I guess they expect that a tragedy of this sort will never happen again. So there is no need to learn from the mistakes that have been made.

    Art from N.O.

  11. upside00 says:

People of Connecticut…. it must feel good to have this droopy dufus representing you. Not so much for the rest of us, including the people in Louisiana.

Why don’t they just change that affiliate label from “I” (Independent) to “WAL” (W’s Ass Licker). Then there would be no ambiguity.

  12. ForTruth says:

Lie-berman is a real peice of work, back stabbing turncoat.

  13. Marie says:

Obama is there to provide “counterbalance” for Joe the Schmoe.
Joe makes his stupid excuses for Bush&Co, Obama will tell the truth.

  14. Zooey says:

Lieberman said he was not interested in “looking back, and assigning blame would be a waste of Congress’ time.” Responding to yesterday’s protestor, Lieberman said, “We don’t want to play ‘gotcha’ anymore.”

We? I love to play gotcha, Joe. Especially with those needing to be GOT.

Do your job, you f*cking loser.

  15. PeterW says:

I wonder if people who donated to Lieberman’s campaign can sue him for fraud…

  16. Zimzone says:

    Joe, you ignorant slut.
The RNC may have funded your re-election bid, but they will eat you alive the first time they disagree with anything you do or say.
I guess that’s par for the course, or karhma, whatever.

Foxaganda has you as the flavor of the month. You can do no wrong. ‘Even Joe Liebrman, Democrat, agrees with the President!’

But, wait until you’re of no use. You will go out like the tired old fart you are, discarded like yesterday’s blog.

The people of NO have been abandoned. Talk about ‘gotcha’, how the hell do you think they feel?

Like the poster above said, your signature is now (I-Israel)

  17. PeterW says:

    #5 Jay

If I recall correctly, freshman senators are assigned to an “advisor/mentor” to show them the ropes (much like college!). When he was elected, Obama was assigned to Lieberman. There are accusations that Obama is a bit too close to him.

But no surprise that they’d be seen together under such circumstances.

  18. Jay Randal says:

Marie > Obama would be wise to not even breath the air around Lieberman! Old Joe is completely radioactive, so Obama must stay at least a hundred feet away from Joseph!

  19. VerbalKint says:

Lieberman is a lying piece of filth.

  20. Joe Sixpack says:

    Joe, you ignorant slut……
    Comment by Zimzone

I wish you’d call him Lieberman,

  21. Jay Randal says:

PeterW > Lieberman is NOT a Democrat, so he needs to stay away from Joe. If Obama treats Joe as a mentor, then Obama is damaged politically!

  22. ggibson says:

Ya after those 10 murders down in Texas a few years ago I thought about turning myself in but then thought… why look back? what good is that going to do anyone?

  23. Zooey says:

I wish you’d call him Lieberman,
    Comment by Joe Sixpack

    Completely understandable. :)

  24. SouthWest Bob says:

Lieberman can be expected to cover for bushco so why are we surprised? This man has his orders from rove/cheney and he’ll continue the repub tactic of acting blind to everything failing of bush/cheney. The people of the Gulf Coast will have to use a committee headed by someone who cares about justice to expose the bush failure in Katrina.

  25. Robert says:

Sometimes one wonders if Bush/Cheney/Rove have video of Lieberman in flagrante delicto with a 7 year old boy the way Joe will do ANYTHING to please them.

  26. Robert says:

    Accountability must be for Losermanns.

  27. PeterW says:

    #21 Jay

Not disagreeing. Obama will be seriously damaged goods if he doesn’t at least distance himself from Holy Joe on issues.

But in ‘04 when Obama was elected, Holy Joe was still – at least in name – a Dem. Hence Obama being assigned to him, and hence the relationship predates his overt betrayal of the party. And do we know when the pic was taken? Could be a file photo.

  28. dlet says:

Lieberman said, “We don’t want to play ‘gotcha’ anymore.”

Of course not. The election’s behind him….and so are his election promises. Can the people of CT demand a re-vote if he goes back on every one of his campaign promises? Is there a way to get him out of office before six years are up?

  29. InOnTheFly says:

Well I hope that all you lock-steppers in Connecticut are happy to have returned this pinko back to the Senate. God forbid if a major tsunami would come ashore up there resulting in a major disaster in and around Boston as happened down in New Orleans — AND NOBODY SEEMED TO CARE MUCH AT ALL ABOUT IT (as is the case in Lousiana). Absolutely pathetic!

  30. Jay Randal says:

PeterW > I do not know when that pic of Lieberman and Obama was taken. I do not know why TP has chosen to use that pic for this thread, since the topic is supposed to be about Holy Joe. Obama being clearly seen in the pic with Joe is NOT a good thing.

  31. Jay Randal says:

Also PeterW > I would like to find out who assigned Lieberman to be the advisor to Obama when he came in as a new Senator? Whoever set-up Obama with Old Joe has damaged Barack politically. I hope Hillary Clinton was not the one who did it, but I would not be surprised if she did.

  32. Zimzone says:

    My apologies, Joe sixpack.
Henceforth, I will address this little salamander as LIEberman.
OTOH, how do you like ‘Foxaganda’? Has a certain ring, eh?

  33. SouthWest Bob says:

    When asked if he was asserting his Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate himself, McGwire once again responded: “I’m not here to talk about the past. I’m here to be positive about this subject.}}

I thought this line of reasoning sounded familiar. . . was Lieberman at the congressional hearing when Mark McGwire testified? Maybe the same lawyer?

  34. Karim says:

Lieberman is a viper and a virus. The Democrats need to cut him loose ASAP.

  35. PeterW says:

    #31 Jay

It’s a fair question, but remember in ‘04, Holy Joe was just another DLC DINO. Perhaps the worst of the bunch, but there were plenty of Dems in Congress toeing the Republican party line out of fear of the electoral consequences. It wasn’t until last year that the full extent of Joe’s disloyal loathsomeness came out of the closet.

  36. el kanuckistani says:

    Shouldn’t that read I (USrael).
I can’t help but wonder though. Is Israel the 51st State of USrael or is USrael one of the States of Israel?

  37. G.W.SuperChrist says:

Leiberman: “what … that murder was committed over a year ago… no point in holding the guilty accountable now”

  38. Marcus Robinson says:

Joe is a real pain in the a$$. We need to make sure we vote more democratic senators to the senate and tell Joe to go play with the republicans.

  39. Happy Guy says:

#12 With a name like ForTruth you think you would have some, but no. Joe is not the back stabbing turncoat you idiot. The Democratic party hung him out to dry for having a thought of his own. He did not tow the patry line on every issue so they back stabbed him.

  40. Happy Guy says:

You can’t have hearing similar to the 9/11 ones. Sandy Berger won’t be allowed to steal any documents this time.

What do you need to know anyway? They had years of knowledge about the situation and decided not to fix it themselves but to blame everyone else when it happened. The place was full of thieves. People gave good money that was thrown at them and taken in scams.

Oh, that’s right. You left-wing-nut moon-bat conspiracy nuts think Bush had the dams blown to flood the place – ROTFL

  41. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

With a name like Happy Guy, you would think you could be more positive and to be manly enough to admit when you and those you support are wrong, but no. Since you are not a progressive, liberal, or Democrat who are you to decide whether or not Lieberman betrayed us who are? Lieberman joined the neocons in the labeling of those opposed to the occupation of Iraq as anti-Americans. For me, that was enough. What might be enough for you is irrelevant.

  42. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

Apparently (post 40) those aren’t “happy pills” that our troll overdosed on.

  43. tom baker says:

What kind of dirt do they have on old Joe, that he’d make such a public fool of himself?

  44. hterrya says:

Comment #38: Marcus, you don’t need encourage ol’ DLC/Undependable/NeoCon-lackey Joe to play with his NeoCon playmates. That seems to be his only passion these days!

Investigating the criminal activities of the current corrupt administration is clearly not a priority. Why jail your playmates?

  45. Technodaoist says:

YOU DIDN’T PLAY GOTCHA IN THE FIRST PLACE, YA OVER-PAID, SELF-PROMOTING, STUFFED SHIRT!!!!!!

  46. kelso says:

Investigating fraud and mismanagement isn’t playing gotcha, it’s your FRICKIN’ JOB! If he can’t do it, he shoud find another line of work.

Katrina, much like Iraq seems to have been PURPOSEFULLY mismanaged to create the very worst circumstances possible.

  47. dixie blood says:

LIEberman says what he says for 2 reasons:

    1) Israel
    2) LIEberman

In this case he’s saying anything needed to become a VP candidate for McLame. If McLame doesn’t get the Repugnican nod then he and LIEberman will be positioned to go down in flames as independents in 2008. LIEberman would love to suck McLame’s a$$ for the office of VP!!

  48. DieNowForPeace says:

LIEberman, time to hit the mall and get that job you’re better suited for, like SELLING SHOES…

  49. Innocent Bystander says:

Damn shame Bush didn’t get a blowjob during Katrina. Joe would be all over that. Sad that our majority has to hang on this clown’s seat. I’d dearly love to see another Senate seat move Independent or into the D column so we can relegate this moral/ethical hypocrite to the sidelines. I ‘d trade him even up for Hagel or Snowe…any takers?

I need to know when you last inspected the public works facilities in your area. How are they holding up? Have you submitted an improved design for immediate construction? Maybe you shouldn’t wait, just get out there and fix them yourself.

And about your police: I presume all the law-abiding citizens in your community have made them obsolete and that you no longer lock your doors at night. No fair keeping your own weapons, because, unlike those people, down there, you live in an area that isn’t full of thieves.

  51. big papa says:

Joe Lieberman’s promise to ‘caucus with the Democrats”…

    …is a monumental “waste of time”…

…the Democratic leadershipin congress and Liberal/Progressive people of Connecticut must…

    …clean up this “waste”…

  52. klyde says:

Love that pic of Obama with his mentor!

  53. KingCranky says:

Let’s clear something up about Joementum, he does NOT give a damn about Jews in Israel if they’re not the same neocon lovers as himself-Since he’s shown he doesn’t care about the victims of Katrina, why would he care about people in other countries who don’t operate with his same POV?

Lieberman’s status as main turncoat W quisling deserves nothing but the harshest, most public ridicule and mockery, proven by his hissy fits over violence in video games while staying mute about how W’s escalating US troops in Iraq without the proper armor or equipment

There’s a special place in Hell for Taliban Wannabes & haters of US freedoms like Joementum

  54. glasgal says:

    Can’t they recall this nob?

  55. Parrotlover77 says:

Just to reiterate what dozens have already said.. LIEBERMAN IS NOT A DEMOCRAT! He may caucus with them still, but he abandoned the party. Thank God he did.

And why on Earth is it a waste of time for Congress to assign blame? Don’t they want to FIX the problem? That’s how you start! Hello?! What a doofus!

  56. RUCerious says:

Dear Joe – I wear a size 8-1/2, Medium. I like brown suede and cross trainers that fit snug, but not too tight.
    Get on it.

  57. helenahandbasket says:

“Gotcha” politics is the rightwing play book. joe, you’re a schmuck.

  58. Redshift says:

Perhaps someone can ask Joe whether we should save money by defunding the National Transportation Safety Board. I mean, there’s no point in playing “gotcha” after a plane crash and looking at what went wrong; it’s more important to focus on doing better next time, right?

  59. Earthling says:

    We’ll play IMPEACH-YA instead.

  60. USA says:

Now I know Liberman is a Sociopath. Here’s why: wonder why Liberman doesn’t want to play gotcha anymore?…he doesn’t want to be caught. The psychopath thrives on not getting caught and as Liberman does uses accusing to manipulate.

    CONGRATS CONNECTICUT!!!

You have shown that a man CAN LIE to your facse and you still elect him without any hint of OUTRAGE…

LAMONT was your chance and because if IDIOTIC loyalty, you are stuck with this dumb@ss!!!

For those that voted for him…I would ask: “Did you get what you asked for? Has he kept ONE promise that he told you? ”

    I REST MY CASE!

  64. xenandsam says:

Note to Sen Reid. Democrats don’t control the Senate anyway. With 60 votes required to accomplish anything, no progressive legislation from the House will see the light of day. Better to jettison the irstwhile democratic senator from neoCon-neticutt now from the caucaus and look for honor in opposition. Give the republicans back their rope: Then take the Senate in 08 by a landslide.

  65. IraqVet says:

    Good point xenandsam…

But until then, like a boxing match, you need to keep fighting until you can set them up for that knockout blow…

I have already converted 22 DIEHARD Republicans to INDEPENDENT in my neighborhood…After seeing my Bronze Star and repeated refusals to attend ANY military functions, they understand my position.

It’s not about the DEMOCRATIC PARTY, but about someone who will make a change in their best interests…

BUSH LIED TO THEM and NOW they know it, so everytime he speaks I chalk up another one to the sane side of America…

Like coming out of a cult, they now see that they were brainwashed into believing that he (DUMBYA) actually had a clue…And like a TRUE PATRIOT I called this man a MURDERER, THIEF, and IDIOT, because my civil riughts says I can, and my service in the military shows that I did not hide behind rhetorical STUPIDITY!!!

  66. Anna says:

Interesting isn’t it,during and after the Katrina madness at the time bushco and all interviewed used the phrase’s,”we are not going to play the blame game”,and ” there will be time enough later to investigate what went wrong”. Now we have the turn coat Israel Joe say”He won’t play gotcha anymore”…Anymore? How about ever or anytime as word’s…A year and a half later and we get this crap from Bush’s favorite lackie…Joe need’s a one way ticket to Israel along with Chertoff…..

I thinj Joe Lieberman works for the Irael’s intelligence agency. He is for all that supports Israel, war escalation, no investigations of Bush, escalation with Iran…this guy is not simply in his ownn world but in the pockets of Israel agents. just keep watching what he does and says….

  72. Sandynosmiles says:

My Uncle died, My Aunt lost her husband, job and house. My nephew lost his school and parent. This was not caused by Katrina, but by the “AFTERMATH” . So don’t blame this on the weather…. Put the blame where it should be Lieberman. You can send your apology to NEWORLEANSEVACUEE@AOL.COM

  73. alis says:

Lieberman is afraid that if he encourages any “accountability” re: Katrina, someone might start holding HIM accountable for the $385,000.00 “petty cash” campaign expenditure. He sure doesn’t want to be held accountable for buying votes on the street in the CT primary.

Maybe he made a deal: he doesn’t look into what happened in N.O. and Bush will bury the investigation here in CT.
