Specter pushes back on ‘the Decider.’

“I would suggest respectfully to the president that he is not the sole decider,” Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) said during a hearing on Congress’ war powers. “The decider is a shared and joint responsibility,” he said.

    He’ll stick to that,I’m sure.

  2. Kat says:

Specter talks the talk, but ultimately, he rarely walks the walk. We shall see Arlen.

  3. Kat says:

Progressive Patriots and MoveOn, etc, need to help in recruiting a viable candidate for Specter’s seat in ‘08, so we PA’ers can get rid of the garbage in our state… like we did with Ricky! :-)

These groups have a phenomenal effect on the ‘06 elections, we should support and appreciate their efforts!

  4. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

Whose the decider sharing a joint with? Did I miss something?
    …Oh, it’s just SpectorAudio again.

  5. Kat says:

    LMAO, PLC!!!

Thanks, I defintely need some comic relief in order to digest the news of the day. Much appreciated!

  6. Hardy Haberman says:

Unfortunately, Bush will share with nobody. He is trying to create a dictatorship and his recent decree putting political appointees at the heads of all goverment regulatory groups is a big step toward that. Freedom of speech may suffer as the Bush operatives clamp down on the media. Watch for it, because it will happen!

    Impeach NOW!

Heh, heh. I’m SURE he will. Arlen “Magic Bullet” Specter always does what he says…… And, mark my words – pigs WILL fly.

  8. tarazan says:

Senator Spector always makes good sellable statements before cameras…but when the vote comes..he votes differently…Does he means what he says this time?!!

  9. Mike says:

Yeah boy, you can take that to the bank!

Arlen “Mr. Credibility” Specter speaking there.

Just call him Jello-Spine. When he does something more than just talk we might consider him a respectable representative. Until then he should just STFU.

Actions, Jello-Spine, actions! That’s all that matters.

  10. Publicus says:

Senator Specter is a mystery to me; he often says the right things and seems to care about the Constitution, but never backs it up with his voting.

And yet, I don’t think he’s a coward or a bad man; he’s beaten cancer——he’s a fighter when he wants to be.

It makes me kind of sad and disappointed to watch him. I really wish him well as a person, but maybe he shouldn’t be in the Senate.

  11. Maddie says:

So how does this square with the boy kings latest signing statement?

Yes, I believe that humor is an anti-vomitory medication for political digestion. Glad I could help you – it helps me, for sure.

I know Senators is supposed to be NICE and everything, which is why Spector was all gentlemanly about what he shoulda said…. which is this.

He shoulda stood up on his chair, grabbed his crotch and shook it at the TV cameras.

“Hey! Chimpy! Look! HERE’S yer “Decider.” I got yer Decider RIGHT HERE, Monkey Face!”

But no… and it’s another opportunity wasted.

  15. nofltwlt says:

Specter is too respectful of a man that does not deserve respect. The office is deserving of respect but not necessarily the man in office.

Here is an email I sent to Specter just this morning.

    **

Senator Specter, no president has ever deserved to be removed from office more than George W. Bush. Now, with his certain complicity in the Valarie Plame outing, he has shown that he was never and is not now fit for office.

Please inform your colleagues that you support impeachment so proceedings can begin now, before it is too late.

By the time impeachment proceedings begin, it may be too late. I can just see armed men entering the chamber floor and taking senators and congressmen into custody because they began impeachment proceedings too late.

I can just hear you say to a person with the weapon, “you are on the floor of the U.S. Senate …”; to which he says, “I have my orders, now come along”. And thus the light of democracy is extinquished.

    Uh,no.

In Pa, we need the humor to handle what are pols say… as they usually turn around and do the opposite of that which they speak, when the time for action (voting in Congress) arrives.

Ricky is gone, thankfully… Areln is next. I just hope the people of my state can see that his words rarely reflect his votes.

I reserve opinion of Casey until I see what he is made of, I want to give him a fair chance. I am grateful for Murtha!

  18. Kat says:

    #15 –
Everytime someone I know mails or emails Specter, we all, always, get a form letter in return – a canned rsponse , that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that he could not possibly have read our correspondence to him. It is very disheartening.

    I circular file it all.

  19. tarazan says:

#18…Spector responds to all kind of cameras..letters are not his favorite method…

  20. Kat says:

    #19,

    so true, unfortuntately!

  21. ForTruth says:

Ahh yes the tough talk of no-walk Specter.

  22. ForTruth says:

I would like to nominate Happy Guy to be the sole decider.

    Ok happy, whats the decision?

  23. InOnTheFly says:

Most all of the folks who posted previously seem to have the measure of the Senator from Pennsylvania — lots of noise opposing the cabal, but up to now has little substance to show for it. At some point in time these congressional folks will acquire conscience and begin to act on the behalf of those who elected them into office. Hopefully anyway.

  24. Joanie Doe ®™ says:

“The decider is a shared and joint responsibility,” he said.

Even Specter is contaminated with Bushspeak. It should read:

” The Presidency is a shared and joint responsibiltiy. ”

My gawd! The whole place has gone bonkers!

  25. Anna says:

Spector, all show no go when it comes to the vote.

  26. yowzer says:

yea, but spector proved that he’s all gas and only too will to wax his nose in bush’s sphincter. So anything spector has to say ain’t worth squat.

  27. Parrotlover77 says:

The republicans want the congress to become a co-equal branch of the government again?

It’s their fault they let Dubya out of the basement to begin with…

  28. RUCerious says:

This is his idea of ‘Pushing back’?
Please spell Pushing back with an “impeach his ass” in front of it.

  29. Mary Poplins says:

Just like in WI we are trying to get House Rep. Sensenbrenner from my district out of office but these idiot keep voting for him. Maybe next time.

  30. IraqVet says:

Spectre always TALKS a GOOD game but NEVER hashe backed it up with some meaningful piece of legislation that actually challenges his friend BUSH!

So until then, all he is giving is lip service so he can stay within the middle…ANYONE can say they are a PATRIOT, but a bumper sticker does not prove it…

As for him, his bumper sticker reads: I will fight safely and risk nothing to achieve something, without risking everything

  31. Marie says:

Specter greated a monster when he let Bush have whatever he wanted from the start. He can complain now, and he does — but when push comes to shove, Specter will cave again.

  32. miles says:

Why is this news? He is all talk. You guys are dupes for helping Specter portray himself as a maverick.

  33. lee swift says:

We can’t impeach Bush NOW or we get Cheny as POTUS

We can and should impeach A G Gonzales RIGHT NOW before he emasculates the rest of the Bill of Rights and all US Attys

Then we can impeach Cheny based on evidence in the Libby trial

Then Bush can have a week or so to select a decent VP, or we can impeach him and get Pelosi as POTUS

  34. Zooey says:

“The decider is a shared and joint responsibility,” he said.

    And……?
