  2. Raven says:

Climate change is an issue citizens 30 something and younger are proactively tackling.
My (30 something) kids are having a global warming party this weekend, in lieu of the annual skating and hockey party. (The lake did not freeze this year….)
My daughter has printed up “carbon credits” that party goers can earn by drinking non-carbonated beverages, and not talking so much…….

  3. Peter says:

I think it was the children who have driven the increase in recycling too. When your 6-year-old daughter asks, “Why aren’t you recycling that can, Daddy?”, it is hard to say that the all-mighty market doesn’t make it worth your while. This is both because the concept of an “all-mighty market which “decides” what the best course of action is” is difficult to explain, as well as being fundamentally flawed. Similarly, the “market” explanation is swallowed by adult citizens mostly because adults are unwilling to say “that doesn’t make sense” when it is explained in a condesending way by sneering “experts” in a position of authority.

The “market” is especially efficient at concentrating wealth (ideally with the most efficient producers), but it is NOT effective at providing the most “beneficial” result for the greatest number of people.

  4. And You Thought REAGAN Was Stupid says:

#1. Hee hee. You are funny. And, quite stupid. Even the dimwitted President Bush has admitted global warming is real. Of course, he’s done everything he can to hide the truth from Americans — looks like it’s worked with you.

  5. ForTruth says:

    It’s Getting Hot In Here,

Now what does Nelly say about this all you young people?

  6. s says:

20wordsorless——that sounds about right for the range of your vocabulary

  8. Xbot says:

ForTruth: I really don’t want you to take your clothes off…

I’ve been trying to contact administrations of organizations in my local Michigan town so I can present this documentary, or maybe just do a presentation myself. I don’t want to sit around and watch this happen without doing something, even if I’m still a junior in high school, I can still do something with my spare time other than work some minimum wage job to buy random stuff I don’t need.

  9. TripMaster Monkey says:

Interesting…I can post here, but not on the ThinkFast thread. Five times I’ve tried, and five times my post fails to go through.

  10. Jay Randal says:

Former VP Al Gore needs to declare his intention to seek the presidency in 2008, because Americans desire an Anti Iraq War leader. He would mop the floor with Sen. Hillary Clinton, and receive the Democrat Party nomination, and then thrash the GOP candidate to become our president in January 2009.

  11. ForTruth says:

    No worries Xbot,

I won’t be taking my clothes off anytime soon.

I am hopeful my debates with Republican family members, co-workers, etc, will be my contribution on this matter. I tell people about it when they ask. I educate others.

  12. Xbot says:

#9 TripMaster: That is strange. Have you tried clearing your cookies? Wordpress does funny stuff like that every once in awhile, although it hasn’t been a problem for me in quite some time. I think it happened once when I wrote a really long post that was well-thought out and such.

I settled with a ‘Go away you silly troll’ for the repost, if I remember right.

    Comment by 20wordsorless

I’m gonna wash that corporate propaganda and Bush cover-up right outta my hair. I’m gonna wash that corporate…….

  14. TripMaster Monkey says:

…and apparently, the post that was repeatedly denied on the ThinkFast thread is denied here as well.

How exactly is this post objectionable? No profanity or mention of any of the verboten TP topics. Is it now forbidden to make mention to Habeas Corpus?

  15. hacker bob says:

I am still waitiing for Al to send me my free copy, or at least a web link to a free copy. I don’t want to use the gasoline to drive to BlockBuster video and add to the problem. /scarcasm>

Seriously, I will trust a candidate is going to do something about global warming when they stop using Jets and SUVs or Limos to travel to campaign functions.

  16. Xbot says:

#13 – I prefer Al Gore has an informer and political figure, rather than someone in office – only because he is doing so much good in his current situation. The more informing and less governing he does, the better.

  17. klyde says:

Upon hearing the numbers Sen James Inhofe’s head exploded.

Comment by And You Thought REAGAN Was Stupid

Of course global warming is real, I just don’t believe that it’s man caused. The earth has been going through cycles of warming and cooling long before civilization began. In addition, the sun’s radiation has been increasing every decade. If you want to be gullible enough to buy into the hysteria, then fine. Just don’t cram that garbage down our kids’ throats.

  19. Jay Randal says:

My post and ForTruth post keeps shifting position and has the wrong time posted for it too? It is not 3:47 pm! Is a cyber hacker on the loose on this thread or a TP glitch?

  20. AkaDad says:

It’s the end of January and I haven’t had to shovel any snow this year. This is unprecedented in the Northeast. Pure coincidence I’m sure.

This is a tired argument. Unless they want to be labeled as “kooks” by the Right for riding bikes or using public transportation, they’ll keep living like Kings. It’s the American way.

  22. Xbot says:

#16: Did you even see An Inconvenient Truth? He had the so-called ‘cycle’ all nicely graphed over the past 800,000 years – he showed the warming cycle, and it was nowhere near as high as the one we’re experiencing now.

We have ten years to avert catastrophic disaster. Are you willing to look in the faces of your children when they ask you why you didn’t do anything about this problem?

  23. 20wordsorless says:

… I tell people about it when they ask. I educate others.

    Comment by ForTruth

    That’s called indoctrination—not education.

  24. Hector Garcia says:

#1 20wol, right, you have been already brainwashed.

Thanks for acknowledging it in the eyes of this delighted crowd.

I would actually prefer a “kook” that stood behind his principles and put his money and reputation where his mouth is, than someone that appears hypocritical in order to not look like a “kook”.

For the record, I am not accusing Gore of being a hypocrite.

More importantly, when there’s a mushroom cloud over a few US cities, are you willing to look in the faces of your children when they ask why you did everything in your power to undermine the war on terror?

Yes, most moral people would, but in politics, it’s all about image. That is, UNTIL you get elected, then you can be as kooky as you wish (see Shrubbie).

  28. karl x says:

i’ve had some trouble with my postings as well; i’m suprised how much mindless troll stuff gets through; a rarely use profanity, but my comments can tend to digress, perhaps that’s why.

x bot, i’m happy to see a highschool age person here, that’s a good sign.

fortunately this subject seems to be out of the “right vs left” bit and now is more on the level of “if we even want to survive as a species we need to slow global warming and protect the environment”.
I’m happy to see religious orginizations coming out with remarks like “God declared man the steward of Earth”; ie meaning that they don’t just plan on praying for the temperature decrease.

anyhow, good to see momentum finaly building beyond “20wordsorless” deafness.

i gotta get some work done

    cheers all

“Of course global warming is real, I just don’t believe that it’s man caused.”

twentywordsorless: Are you posting that opinion despite having viewed “An Incovenient Truth” or are you posting without having that information available? Either way, you are swimming against the tide of the vast majority science experts who hold exactly the opposite opinion from yours.

If the experts are right, and I believe they are, you may soon be literally swimming, if you live on either coast of the United States.

Support Shrub and your nightmare will definitely come true. BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID. Continue your blind devotion then you can explain to your grandchildren why you voted for Dumbya not once, but twice.

I KNOW you didn’t inadvertently accuse me of being moral. I’m a Republican! take it back, TAKE IT BACK!!!

  33. karl x says:

where are the new comments! is it always so troublesome here?

  34. clarkslick says:

I am teaching English in South Korea right now and my Korean students tell me that they are watching Inconvenient Truth in the Korean schools, because it’s important, as they probably are in many countries around the world. And there are schools in the US that are forbidding teachers to show it? My youngest students know more about global warming than many adults in America. Unbelievable. I wouldn’t be surprised to see one day where the third-world (and maybe other) countries of the world launch a class-action suit against the US, the greatest polluter, for billions if not trillions of dollars. It would mostly be fair.

  35. DieNowForPeace says:

Fascists would rather limit your exposure to any ideas other than their own. People like 20wol are somehow threatened by allowing people to gather information and make their OWN DECISION. I guess when you’re spoon fed what to think your whole life, the idea of free thinking is quite terrifying.

  36. Zooey says:

The more informing and less governing he does, the better.
    Comment by Xbot

You’re right, Xbot, Al Gore has more passion doing exactly what he’s doing now, and we need him passionate.

  37. Douglas G. says:

As long as they understand it’s a pretty work of fiction.

  38. kaitiger says:

It might be wise for the skeptics ie..the non-indoctrinated? ;) to look into the following research that is/will be coming out soon, notated in this (linked) article http://www.commondreams.org/views07/0129-32.htm

It’s a bit more than twenty words, but some things in life aren’t so simple.

In the meantime if those like 20WOL are so worried about indoctrination I suggest they try listening to voices other than Rush, Hannity, OReilly, etc…. on the radio, try tv/cable other than Fox, and stop taking their children to places/events like scouts, sunday school, etc….

  39. Marie says:

I wonder how many of the skeptics here have actually seen Inconvenient Truth.
Even the reply to those who think this is just another normal cycle of the millenia is quite explanatory. What makes the people who mock the science think they’re so smart and know better than all the major scientists of the world.

BTW, the NASA scientist who also reported on this in 2005 was ignored by Bush&Co and now he has to have a 24-y-o “minder” (formerly a Bush campaign worker) to review future reports.
This is just another effect of the Executive order of last week.

  40. Juan C says:

In addition, the sun’s radiation has been increasing every decade.
    Comment by 20wordsorless

Ha ha ha. 1368 +/- W/m² of solar irradiance arrives the earth above the atmosphere. There are certainly variations but unless you modify the nuclear reaction going on in the Sun which produces a million °C on its inside but just 5780 °C on its surface, or the Sun-Earth distance, then you cant increase or decrease the amount of energy emitted from the sun. Go to another thread or educate yourself.

  41. Xbot says:

TP has been weird today – Zooey, your post was #18, now it’s #40…

As for mushroom clouds: Global Warming has SCIENCE and scientists who have spent their entire lives learning about this issue. Iraq was a debacle created by Bush to make his corporate masters very rich.

Congrats. Did the Kool-Aid taste good at least? I like the fruit flavor as opposed to the bullshit flavor, myself.

  42. Karim says:

Good to see that their are people who actually care about the environment.
