Gonzales to release warrantless spying details.
“Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said Wednesday he will turn over secret documents detailing the government’s domestic spying program, ending a two-week standoff with the Senate Judiciary Committee over surveillance targeting terror suspects,” the AP reports. “The records will be given to Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and the panel’s top Republican, Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., who two weeks ago lambasted Gonzales for refusing to turn over documents that even the FISA Court’s presiding judge had no objection to releasing.”

January 31st, 2007 at 7:35 pmI think it’s very interesting that the Justice Dept. says the ACLU lawsuit is now moot, since they are going to the FISA court for warrants. The bottom line is that what they have been doing is not only unconsitutional, but illegal as well. That is, Bush, et.al. were breaking the LAW and could be fined and imprisoned. Any other argument would be like saying, (as I read in a column recently), well, I used to rob banks but I’m not doing it anymore, so shouldn’t be held liable any longer for my previous crimes.
