Next Nobel Peace Prize recipient: Rush Limbaugh?»

The right-wing Landmark Legal Foundation has nominated Limbaugh for the Nobel Peace Prize, for his “tireless efforts to promote liberty, equality and opportunity for all mankind, regardless of race, creed, economic stratum or national origin.” Al Gore actually received a Nobel nomination for his work fighting global warming.

An un-solicited nomination. I think I’ll just cut and paste my name and send it in too.

  5. Mike D Says:

As big a joke as this is, it’s their right to do that. He’ll lose anyway. Question: Who even cares about Rush anymore aside from his loyal and out of touch fanbase?

Just is a perfect example of the depth of mental dysfunction of a segment of our society. That’s all this says. It is tragic they have gotten a foothold on power…..but that is coming to an end and quickly. Let’s hope that soon the majority of the American people will not be subjected to the level and quantity of idiocy we now have to endure daily.

  19. JPV Says:

What do you expect? Nobel was the inventor of Dynamite and then founded the Nobel Peace Prize. It’s an absurd organization, comming from a man like that. The fact that this award, from the mind of a hypocrite like Nobel, is so revered, just shows you how insane the human race really is.

It’s actually quite perfect to have Limbaugh put up for nomination. It perfectly reflects the Hypocrisy of Nobel and his stupid award.

  20. NerdGirlLauren Says:

for his “tireless efforts to promote liberty, equality and opportunity for all mankind, regardless of race, creed, economic stratum or national origin.”

… Unless they have Teh Gay.

  21. Mark Says:

#18 that is exactly it. The right hates that people nominated come primarily from the left. They don’t get that the Nobel PEACE prize is awarded to those seeking a better world though peace and cooperation etc… they are offended and think that they are really the only ones who know the right thing to do. Sort of like the Enron saying about the smartest guys in the room. They sit around telling each other how right they are and how thier ideas are great and then they ignore the reality of the outside world. This allows them to seriously believe that they are better able to handle things than anyone else. So in their minds, this is probably a legitimate proposition.

It is a brilliant, crafty, shady way to dilute the significance of Al Gore being nominated for the Nobel Prize. Classic move, throw a distraction at something legitimate, and let the ensuing noise and chaos do the dirty work for you in bringing down the issue(s) into the gutter.

  33. Roger_Roger Says:

Congratz to Gore and Limbaugh. They both deserver the award in many ways. It is a tough call on who to give it to between them. I would tend to go with Limbaugh as he has always fought for what he believes. Gore seemed to not care and didn’t do a thing while in government. It is nice to see him now fighting against climate change as it truly is a big problem. On second thought, I’ll give it to Gore anyways as it is the largest problem confronting humanity to date.

Oh, you mean other than leading the effort to fund the arpanet, which led to the development of the internet? No, he didn’t invent it, nor did he say he did. But as a senator he did push for its development.

People who are ahead of their time are often ridiculed during their time, but then where are the critics when they turn out to have been right? Al Gore was right about the importance of developing the internet, just as he is right about what needs to be done regarding human causes of global warming. We will be better off if we listen to him rather than ridicule him.

  43. muckdog Says:

Yeah, the Nobel Peace Prize is supposed to be awarded to somebody who has made a significant contribution. Gore makes a movie about “global warming,” and it’s snowing in South Carolina.

    LOL.

If Gore wins the Nobel Peace Prize, then we’ll know for sure that this award has slipped into irrelevance.

Meanwhile, man is blamed for “global warming,” by the IPCC and “The Eiffel Tower in Paris, near where the IPCC experts were meeting, was to shut off its famous night-time illuminations for five minutes on Thursday night to draw attention to energy use.”

Uh… France gets their electricity from nuclear energy. They could burn lights 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year forever and not contribute anything to global warming or air pollution. Nuclear energy doesn’t contribute to global warming. So how dumb was that gesture? France should’ve turned on all the lights in the country and boasted “We can do this, because we’re not burning fossil fuels like those dopes in the US. We use nuclear energy!”

  53. paul Says:

I have been listening to Rush for awhile. I don’t agree with everything he says, just like I don’t agree with everything that is posted here. But I believe that liberals have successfully (although, unfairly) painted Rush Limbaugh as a racist, bigot, sexiest, and a homophobe. Rush is an admitted conservative, but as far as the bigotry; I haven’t seen it.

Think about this: Rush talks in front of an open mike (live) for three hours a day, 5 days a week. 15 hours X 50 weeks; 750 hours of live conversation a year for nearly 20 years. In all that time, think of all the controversy. Donovan McNabb, Michael J. Fox, Oxycontin addiction. I’m sure there are others, but the point I’m trying to make is this: Take any public figure and scrutinize 750 hours of live comments on contentious issues every year. There will be some comments that raise some eyebrows. I’m sure there are many in public life (Kerry, Biden) that would envy the relative freedom from the foot-in-mouth comments.

I have listened as Rush responds to callers that are minorities, homosexuals and, yes, liberals; Rush treats the callers with respect. He does not have much patience with liberal callers that are antagonistic, but I would submit that he treats those callers with more respect than conservatives get treated on this site.

If you insist on proclaiming Rush a bigot, you should probably listen to the show once. As a progressive, you probably won’t like what you hear, but just because someone disagrees with you politically, doesn’t make them a bigot. I am a conservative. I’ve never been to a conservative blog, just because I know how conservatives think and I’m not that interested. I have seen alot here that causes me to rethink my positions. If you seek the truth, and you’re confident in your positions, you should tune in. If you’re afraid that Limbaugh is not the devil you think he is (and that gives you comfort), continue to insulate yourself with likeminded people here. But please consider; if it doesn’t kill you, it makes you stronger.

  62. Maeven Says:

Yeah, the Nobel Peace Prize is supposed to be awarded to somebody who has made a significant contribution. Gore makes a movie about “global warming,” and it’s snowing in South Carolina.

People who make comments like this one used to be shamed and ridiculed into silence and exile (AV club and wood shop). Then Rush Limbaugh came along and gave them cover for their ignorance and anger.

We have an opportunity now to educate them, about why global warming and snow in South Carolina aren’t mutually exclusive.

It’s the muckdogs in the U.S. who need to see “An Inconvenient Truth,” which is a very interesting, entertaining and easy for young and old to understand. And if it took Rush Limbaugh to give us the means by which to identify the weakest links in our educational system (his fans) and where we should be targeting our educational efforts and dollars, with pinpoint precision, then I say he deserves that recognition.

    P.S. to muckdog,

When people want to complain about Bush but don’t vote, I tell them, “If you didn’t participate when it counted (at the ballot box), I’m not interested in your opinion about him.”

The same goes for commenting about Gore and his show on global warming and the documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth”: If you haven’t seen it, your opinion is based on nothing. Your opinion is worthless.

Go see it, then come back and tell us what it is that you don’t agree with.

France fuses its nuclear waste into solid glass blocks (from slurries) and stores it underground. Result is a leak proof container with a lifetime of 32 million years and you could sleep on the stuff without danger of radiation poisoning. Their nuclear residue in the form of fuel rods or pellets is re-refined and the ash from that process enters the waste cycle.

The right-wing Landmark Legal Foundation has nominated Limbaugh for the Nobel Peace Prize, for his “tireless efforts to promote liberty, equality and opportunity for all mankind, regardless of race, creed, economic stratum or national origin.”

    ************************************

Say WHAT?!?!? Has anyone from the Landmark Legal Foundation ever actually listened to Limbaugh’s show? Good grief…

If memory serves, however, the joke’s on them. Yeah, just about anyone can say they want to nominate someone for a Nobel Prize — but that in no way obliges the Nobel Assembly to consider this a legitimate nomination or take it seriously. Each year, the Nobel Assembly invites approximately 3000 people — the majority of them members of the Nobel Assembly, previous prize winners, and professors at academic institutions around the globe — to submit the names of potential candidates for the Nobel Prize. This means that unless the Landmark Legal Foundation has been specifically invited to nominate a candidate for the Nobel Prize — which, while not impossible, seems unlikely — this supposed nomination is nothing more than posturing and is utterly meaningless. Does anyone remember the name Dr. William Hammesfahr from the Terri Schiavo affair — the quack who believed that Terri could be rehabilitated and who claimed to have been nominated for the Nobel Prize? His bogus claim to the nomination was based solely on a letter written by Congressman Mike Bilirakis of Florida.

  67. Liberal in New Mexico Says:

So, fascist Nazis are being nominated for Peace Prizes, these days? Mr. Nobel should be turning over in his grave.

  68. muckdog Says:

    #65, good job Walt.

Lets nominate France for the Nobel Peace Prize. Throw in India, China and Japan, too. They’re building bunches of nuclear power plants, too. At least some countries are trying to stop the burning of fossil fuels. Meanwhile, the environmentalists here don’t seem to have a clue.

I’m willing to accept all the hysterical claims of Al Gore to be true. Therefore, we must stop burning fossil fuels. That’s the only conclusion one can draw from that movie if one accepts it as Gospel. Nuclear energy is the answer.

  69. the fly-man Says:

    I’m a conserva dork troll?

  70. Nell Says:

    You must own stock.

It’s the wrong answer. Solar, wind,hydro-electric and kinetic are natural solutions without deadly side effects or consequences.

  72. Ami Says:

The only time I EVER listened to Rush Limbaugh, in the first five minutes he called Hugo Chavez CEASAR Chavez, and then minutes later when he realized his mistake shrugged it off saying, “Oh well, a Chavez is a Chavez.”

  73. Juan C Says:

Lets nominate France for the Nobel Peace Prize. Throw in India, China and Japan, too.
    You cant nominate countries.

    Nuclear energy is the answer.
    Comment by muckdog

It is not. Poor countries cant build them easily and thats without saying all the security needed to operate them. If we add the hysterical reactions of the Superpowers (US, for example) about a country building such plants, then it is even more difficult. Take a look at Iran. Now, while Walt says the nuclear rods or pellets can be stored for about 32 million years without leaking, somehow I doubt becuz there is not such a 100% safe disposal technology, considering underground movements and substances and considering that we could end filling vast amounts of underground regions filled with nuclear wastes, nuclear technology is not the answer. I will say it again: the only completely self-sustainable source of energy is solar.

  76. WaltTheMan Says:

    #74 - Juan C,
I never said that nuclear pellets or rods are stored. Any remaining Uranium or Plutonium atoms are extracted from them and the lower AT. NO. elements (”ash”) are introduced into the waste cycle. The waste is stored in a silicate structure (glass) which is stable for millions of years. Any fracture of the glass slugs or blocks will lead to less leakage than would result from natural deposits of atomic elements. The USA wants to use barrels and I admit that the leakage risk is very high there.

But I believe that liberals have successfully (although, unfairly) painted Rush Limbaugh as a racist, bigot, sexiest, and a homophobe. Rush is an admitted conservative, but as far as the bigotry; I haven’t seen it. — Paul

    ****************************************

With all due respect, Paul, maybe the reason why you haven’t seen it is because you don’t want to see it. The plain and simple truth is that the man frequently makes comments which globally criticize gays, women, and minorities as a group rather than specifically criticizing individuals within those groups with whom he doesn’t agree — and at least to my way of thinking, there is only one word which describes someone who overgeneralizes the faults of individuals within the group to ridicule the entire group.

    That word is BIGOT.

Let me ask you…do these statements really sound like someone who “promote(s) liberty, equality and opportunity for all mankind, regardless of race, creed, economic stratum or national origin” — or do they sound like the jeers of a schoolboy? All of these are attributed to Limbaugh:

“The NAACP should have riot rehearsals. They should get
a liquor store and practice robberies”

“When a gay person turns his back on you, it is anything but an insult — it’s an invitation.”

“Why should Blacks be heard? They’re 12% of the population.
    Who the hell cares?”

“Once the whites leave town, all you’ve got is overwhelming lawlessness. That’s not racism, Mr. Snerdley; it’s a proven, demonstrable fact.”

“Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream.”

“We’re not sexists, we’re chauvinists — we’re male chauvinist pigs, and we’re happy to be because we think that’s what men were destined to be. We think that’s what women want.” (Personal aside — NOT THIS WOMAN!)

“An immigration agent chased him for the last 10 miles.” (Rush’s explanation for how a Mexican won the New York Marathon)

“Wouldn’t it be great if anybody who speaks out against this country, to kick them out of the country?”

These are just the few that I was able to collect during a quick browse through the internet — I’m sure there are many others. This is the man who you claim is not a bigot — yeah, riiiight.. Sounds to me as though you could stand to have your hearing checked, Paul — you seem to have a rather unusual case of selective deafness. The fact that you apparently can’t see it suggests one of two possibilities to me — either that you find prejudice to be repulsive and simply can’t bear to face the possibility that Limbaugh might be prejudiced, or that a part of you secretly agrees with him. And no — I don’t believe the claims that Limbaugh doesn’t really mean it, any more than I believed that Mel Gibson and Michael Richards didn’t really mean what they said. Such statements also cannot be called “humor” because nobody with any real intelligence, class, manners, or maturity finds them the least bit funny. Such sentiments are always carried in the head and in the heart long before they come out of the mouth — and even if a person doesn’t want to acknowledge those feelings within himself or herself, this doesn’t mean that the sentiments aren’t there. Even if he didn’t really mean it and this is all an act, the fact remains that at least a few people take what he says seriously — and knowing this, he should take responsibility for what he says on the air.

The only time I EVER listened to Rush Limbaugh, in the first five minutes he called Hugo Chavez CEASAR Chavez, and then minutes later when he realized his mistake shrugged it off saying, “Oh well, a Chavez is a Chavez.”

Those of you who say he isn’t a bigot probably don’t recognize your own bigotry.

This passes for bigotry for you. Image for a moment we are being open minded. Now image Jon Stewart of the Daily Show saying the exact same thing. Would turn him off and consider him a bigot?

    54 Great post!

    here’s a follow up:

HOW RUSH LIMBAUGH GOT “NOMINATED” FOR THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE:

    Dear Dr. Mjos:

Landmark Legal Foundation herewith submits the name of Rush Limbaugh as an unsolicited nomination for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
We are offering this nomination for Mr. Limbaugh’s nearly two decades
of tireless efforts to promote liberty, equality and opportunity for all
mankind, regardless of race, creed, economic stratum or national origin. We
fervently believe that these are the only real cornerstones of just and
    lasting peace throughout the world.
Rush Limbaugh is a nationally syndicated radio talk show host in the
United States and one of the most popular broadcasters in the world. His
daily radio show is heard on more than 600 radio stations in the United
States and around the world. For 18 years he has used his show to become
the foremost advocate for freedom and democracy in the world today.
Everyday he gives voice to the values of democratic governance, individual
opportunity and the just, equal application of the rule of law — and it is
fitting the Nobel Committee recognize the power of these ideals to build a
truly peaceful world for future generations.
Thank you for your thoughtful and serious consideration of this
nomination. Should you require additional information, please don’t
    hesitate to contact me.
    Sincerely,

    Mark R. Levin
    President

    An unsolicited nomination.

I hate to break this to you, Rush, but you’re not in the running. You’re somebody’s PR Patsey. I wonder how much air time you’re going to devote to this “nomination.” If you do brag about it, the joke will truely be on you…because it’s a fake nomination.

  91. Bluestocking Says:

Is there a link for the quotes or what was the search? Thanks. — Paul

    *****************************

I didn’t do anything complicated at all to find these quotes, Paul. I simply went to Google and entered the following into the search field verbatim — “Rush Limbaugh” quotes

I didn’t write down which quotes came from which sites or even which specific sites I took quotes from — but most of the sites which came up were generic quotation collection sites such as Think Exist (I happen to collect quotations, so I’m very familiar with many of these sites already). In any event, going through the first few pages that came up for my search was enough to give me what I included in my post.

Granted, I can’t verify with 100% certainty that Limbaugh said these things (you’ll note that I described these quotes in my last post as being attributed to him, since I can’t verify it conclusively — but most of the quotes I gave you appear on several different sites, which seems to confer at least some degree of assurance that these are indeed direct quotes from Limbaugh. I do remember that one of the quotes I included in my post (the one about chauvinists) came from Wikiquote and listed the date on which he said it. Most of the quotation collection sites I visited mostly listed his non-controversial quotes, some of which I admit I can’t disagree with — but then again, even a broken clock is right two times a day!

  92. paul Says:

Bluestocking. Good enough for me. I’ll check it out. Thank you very much.

Rush for Nobel peace, good one. Almost as idiot as the Nobel prize itself. Nobel invented WMD’s and his name became linked to intelligence of the highest order, what logic is that. Next we’ll say Bush brought peace upon the world, or Bill Clinton saved the erosion of marriage, or America is the best damned country this world has ever seen. ROFLMAO

  105. David Carlisle Says:

I dunno. Probably if I spent some time on the internet I could find out some things about Limbaugh which I don’t find objectionable, but a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize isn’t something I automatically associate with somebody who describes himself as a radio entertainer.

Now, I realize that talking about stuff for a couple of hours day in, day out takes a lot of effort and not just anybody can do it, but I don’t know how much of that effort is about “promoting peace”, or at least ‘peace’ in a way other than “telling people what they want to hear”. I mean, if you want a media type who promotes what is broadly thought of as peace, a more obvious nominee would be, say, Mr. Rogers. Doesn’t matter if he’s dead. He’s still on TV in places.

The Nobel committee could go the ‘Time’ man-of-the-year route this year. It would mean casting a lot of those medals and getting a bigger auditorium, but then the committee could take it easy for the next couple of years.

And now several liberal and conservative scholars are charging FDR with TREASON. Yes Democrats and Republican Scholars are accusing FDR of Treason.

Most of you people are very ignorant… First of all if you want to call a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize a joke, think of this: Who nominated Al Gore. Probably the same type of people that gave good ole Prince Charles the award in NYC for his efforts in global warming… all while it was about 10 degrees outside … I guess with global warming taking affect it should’ve been 9.4 degrees … Also, the same type of people that nominated Al Gore’s movie for an Academy award… liberals all the same…
And if it was a fake nomination, all of these news stations wouldn’t be reporting it.

  128. Al Gore Says:

I deserve to win! I have done nothng in the war against Terror, so I should be the winner. This is for peace, and I figure since all I did was make a stupid fictional movie about Global Warming. I also take fuel guzzling private jets around the world so people can meet me. I’m for the peaceful existence of mankind. No one should fight, even though we would not be a country right now if we wouldn’t have had the revolutonary war.

(example, gas prices.. cheaper by lots than a year ago…) Wasn’t The Pres’s fault for prices going up… not his credit for going down either… so don’t blame him in the first place… just one example…

  132. Thomp Says:

Why do liberals assume that conservatives are bigots and racists. How many liberals get run off of college campuses for expressing a different point of view. Claims that Al Gore was nominated by “reputable people” are as bogus as Gore’s nomination. Reputable people don’t convene and have a consensus that global warming exists and is caused by humans. It either exists and if provable by science or it does not exist and that can also be proven by science. True scientists don’t make a statement and try to shut down any opposing view which the liberal environmentalists want to do. When you try to shut down debate on an issue you automatically lose the debate.

  133. Alexander Freeborn Says:

If you are unable to understand what FDR, Billy Bob Clinton, Pearl Harbor, and 9 11 have to do with Rush Limbaugh. You must not have any idea what Rush Limbaugh is about, what he has done, and why he deserves such an honor. Have you ever listened to Rush Limbaugh?

If you have no understanding of the people and historical events I have mention. And how they are related to each other. Then I truly feel sorry for you, and hope some day you gain some form of understanding of history.

Rush Limbaugh ask questions that few dare to ask. He forces his listener’s to think for their selves. Independent thinkers are considered the most dangerous people in the world by democrats.

Rush dares you to seek out the facts as opposed to liberals thought pattern of ” follow me “. Where liberals refuse to allow conservatives equal opportunity to speak on their radio shows. Rushe’s radio show is open to ALL, as in We the People, not We the Democrats, or We the Liberals.

Are conservatives the only one’s right? No. Is every conservative always moral and honest? No. But we do have the greatest numbers of independent thinkers, and the most patriotic.

America, Love it or Leave it. You have a disagreement with an elected official in office do not work against them. Work with them. Use logic and reason not hatred, slurrs and vulgar words.

I have come to believe that for many, it is too painful or too much work for them to become independent thinkers. It is oh so much easier to just follow.

Is it so hard to pick up a book, a newspaper, or talk to those over 50 and actually listen to historical facts? Seek out a survivor of WW II, or the Holocaust and spend a few hours with them. I have, and I’ll tell you something else. I watched a group of young liberals during a Holocaust presentation, and later watched as they fell to their knees and cried. Many of those young liberals are now conservatives and have went from voting Democrat to voting Republican.

The truth hurts, and for many liberals. It hurts like hell. In a movie titled ” A few good men ” is a great quote for Liberals. ” You can’t handle the truth.”

Personally, my problem with Bush is I dont think he’s qualified for the job. This has nothing to do with being a conservative or a liberal. I really don’t understand how anyone who claims to be conservative can claim otherwise.

Once again, i apologize for the whole exploding quip. It was out of line.

  136. Freedom Speaker Says:

What in the world did Al Gore ever do for a nomination besides collude with Clinton on his adulterous affair & his perjury. Oh, by the way, what does “is” mean anyway?

  137. daarkraine Says:

What no one seems to remember is that Rush has the same first amendment rights as every American. He can SAY what he wants. Although I don’t agree with him, I’m thankful he has that right because it means I do too.

We are all too caught up in this Right Vs. Left debate that we forget that we live in a country that allows us to do that; which is quite a special thing indeed.

Besides, the Nobel Peace Prize is the Golden Globe of the academic world. In the end it doesn’t change who the person is or what that person does. So it wouldn’t matter if Mickey Mouse won it. He’d still be a cartoon mouse who makes children smile.

  138. Steve Says:

I learned of Rush’s nomination and agree with others that this sounds much like a “me too” nomination. Limbaugh’s value to society is that he provides entertainment to the throngs of his “ditto heads” who enjoy listening the incantations of a single man who, for the most part, has his head so firmly inserted into his large intestine that his vision of the world is completely insular without any consideration given for an opinion that differs from his own. To attribute any credibility for any opinion that this man expresses is to disregard the many to reprobated statements that he has made in past. Limbaugh has had too many outbursts that are totally erroneous, viscous in their attack on the credibility of other people, or are otherwise just without merit that any thinking person should, by default, assume that if a statement is made by Rush Limbaugh, it probably is not worth any consideration and should be given the same treatment as junk mail - ie., anything worthwhile will arrive through other sources.

  139. alp3 Says:

    Freeborn,

I don’t know where to start with that last one. What radio show isn’t open to all the people? Rush forces listeners to think for themselves? Buy asking the tough questions in his wonderful folksy way? He’s an Everyman? You have to be kidding me. Even the most staunch conservatives I know can see through that grift.

Next thing you’ll be trying to convince me of is that GWB is the uniter, and he deserves a nobel peace prize for his humanitarian efforts at home and around the globe.

America, love it or leave it. That just about wraps things up here today for us, Alex. We’re going to have to agree to disagree and hope we don’t end up living next door to one another.

    peace.

Conservative Group Withdraws Limbaugh’s Nobel Nomination
Lack of pepperoni is key to the decision

    Special to The WitList
    2 February 2007

LEESBURG, VA — Landmark Legal Foundation has withdrawn its nomination of Rush Limbaugh for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, just one day after nominating the portly talk radio host for the honor.

“It was all just an unfortunate misunderstanding,” says Mark R. Levin, president of the ultra-conservative public interest law firm. Levin declined to elaborate on the nature of the misunderstanding, but admits the foundation was asked by Limbaugh to both offer the nomination and then rescind it. The self-described ‘Head Ditto-head’ serves as an unpaid member of Landmark’s board.

Sources inside the foundation say the Titanic-sized talker believed he was being nominated for the Nobel Pizza Prize, which comes with a cash award of $100 Norwegian Kroner (approximately US$16) and a year’s free supply of Domino’s. When Limbaugh realized he was being nominated for his efforts to promote peace, understanding, and fraternity between nations, the porcine provocateur declined the honor, calling it “something communists like Al Gore would probably get behind.”

Limbaugh continues to be in the running for several other prestigious awards, including High Times Magazine’s Man of the Year, for his continuing work to popularize the use of Oxycontin among our nation’s mobile home population.

Reputable people don’t convene and have a consensus that global warming exists and is caused by humans. It either exists and if provable by science or it does not exist and that can also be proven by science. — Thomp

    *****************************

I’ll give you this much — at least you express your views politely, unlike some of the other conservative trolls on this board. However, while you’re certainly entitled to your own opinion, you’re not entitled to your own facts and your argument is seriously flawed. Let’s consider a couple of your points, shall we?

Why do liberals assume that conservatives are bigots and racists?

I can’t speak for all liberals, of course — but I personally do not automatically assume that all conservatives are bigots and racists. However, as I indicated in one of my earlier posts, I consider myself free to use the label “bigot” to anyone who uses the faults of a few individuals within the group to attack the entire group wholesale — such as is clearly indicated in the direct quotes from Limbaugh which I posted above. It’s just as unfair to automatically accuse all conservatives of bigotry as it is to accuse all liberals of attacking religion. There’s no question that some conservatives are indeed bigots and that some liberals do indeed attack religion — all stereotypes have some basis in reality, or people wouldn’t accept them. In any case, if a person wants to avoid being labeled a bigot, there’s a very simple way to prevent it — and that’s to avoid acting or speaking like one. After all, aren’t conservatives supposed to believe in personal responsibility?

Claims that Al Gore was nominated by “reputable people” are as bogus as Gore’s nomination

To the best of my knowledge, it has not yet been revealed who nominated Gore for the Nobel Prize. However, if the person who nominated Gore was in fact someone who was invited by the Nobel Assembly to name a candidate for the prize, then both the claim and the nomination are in fact perfectly legitimate. Whether you like it or agree with it or not is totally irrelevant. However, it has already been revealed that Limbaugh’s nomination was unsolicited by the Nobel Assembly — which means that both the claim and the nomination are invalid.

Reputable people don’t convene and have a consensus that global warming exists and is caused by humans. It either exists and if provable by science or it does not exist and that can also be proven by science.

Actually, this only goes to prove that you really don’t understand how scientific research really works. In actuality, it’s very difficult for scientific research to entirely “prove” anything as such because of the way in which statistics work. All research does is discover whether the observed facts do or do not support the theory. However, one thing which makes this difficult is that the facts almost never measure up so cleanly in the real world as to totally eliminate the statistical margin of error or chance and especially not when you’re gathering data which is outside of your direct control such as that concerning climate change — so even if your margin of error is set at 0.10 (which is pretty damn high), there’s always a remote chance that the effects you’re observing have no relation to the factors under study. Even if your findings strongly support the theory, it only applies with certainty towards the data that you gathered — although it provides a foundation for potential extrapolation to other data sets. One way to determine whether a study is reliable is to repeat it and see if similar results are obtained. You may not want to believe it, but the fact is that a lot of scientific research has already been done on global warming — and convening to discuss the research and make conclusions based on the evidence that has been gathered so far is exactly what reputable scientists do. Your statement seems to imply that this was all completely arbitrary, and that’s simply not true.

And as long as we’re on the subject of “proof”…what about God, then? A lot of conservatives profess to believe that God exists — but if He does, then where’s your proof? You said it yourself — “it either exists and is provable by science or it does not exist and that can also be proven by science.” If it’s irresponsible to believe in global warming without scientific evidence, then it’s equally irresponsible to believe in God without scientific evidence — so where’s yours?

You are all Ignorant FOOLS. Fortunately we out number the feable minded such as Yourselves!

  146. GOD BLESS AMERICAN Says:

CONGRATULATIONS RUSH, I HOPE YOU WIN THE 10 MILLION $$$$$$

  147. dt Says:

actually, it’s 10 million Kroner, or about $1.6 million in US currency. Still, that would buy something like 400 to 800 bottles of Oxycontin at current street prices of 50 cents to $1 per milligram.

    see http://www.usdoj.gov/ndic/pubs/651/abuse.htm

that should keep Rush rushing for at least a month, maybe two.

  148. John Hammett Says:

Rush Limbaugh has done more for mankind than Algore. Rush does not try to impose his mistaken views on everybody else. He advocates open discussion and reasonable conclusions that can be proven by facts, not speculation. “Global Warming Hysteria” is truly the most dangerous prospect to face us. Please note: I did not say “Global Warming” per se. I said “Global Warming Hysteria”.
If Rush were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, it would do much to restore the stature of the award. There is no way it could erase the stigma of it being awarded do Jimmie Carter, but it would help.

  149. Patrick Says:

I think its a hoot. Talk about rubbing it in the noses of liberals everywhere! Yeah, he probably won’t win, but then again neither will Gore (what the hell does global warming have to do with peace anyhow?).

Since the committee is usually composed of a bunch of far left wingers, I wouldn’t doubt it if it went to Hugo Chavez.

  150. tedkaczynski Says:

Bluestocking # 145: There will never be proof of God’s existence until Armageddon. That’s the point. He wants his followers to believe on their faith alone. If you really want proof, accept Jesus as your savior. You will be overwhelmed by the truth!

  151. alp3 Says:

    feable minded.

  152. Scruffy Says:

All this Global Warming hoo-haw is nothing more than a bunch of fleas arguing about who’s steering the dog.

What’s the most significant greenhouse gas? Water Vapor! Yep, we gotta dry up those pesky oceans, boys, they’re just heating up the planet!

Fact: It has been cooler in history than it is now.

Fact: It has been hotter in history than it is now.

Some nit-brain noticed that the temperature is going up at the same time CO2 is going up and said “Ah-Ha!”. No need to show any correlation, no modelling of how the climate has fluctuated beyond the last 150 years. No thought that, gee, you know we ARE still recovering from an ICE AGE just 12,000 years back.

So now all the other nit-brains are running around in a panic, never once bothering t
