“US companies are lagging behind Europe in their readiness to identify climate-change risks, according to the most comprehensive survey to date of industry awareness of the issues.” According to the Financial Times, many U.S. banks stated that “climate change had little to do with their business.” (See the real facts here.)
Another sign that doing nothing will cost our economy. Energy efficiency saves money – duh. Reliance on oil and coal costs more than you are paying at the pump or on your utility bill – duh. A stitch, in time, saves nine – but nooo – lets wait until things get really ugly to do anything. Oh wait, New Orleans is gone already, isn’t it? But let’s wait a little longer….
Sigh. I hope Gore wins the Nobel and people start paying more attention.
February 1st, 2007 at 10:39 amIt has little to do with their business of making money at any cost, I suppose.
I just had this thought:
1. Republicans’ and big corporations’ interests are common.
February 1st, 2007 at 10:58 am2. Republicans claim to have high morals.
3. A particular common ‘moral’ saying “The right thing to do isn’t always the easy one.”
4. Therefore, shouldn’t big corporations want to do the right thing, even if it isn’t easy? Like combat global climate change?
China, Europe and the € are taking the lead in economy and environmental issues. This is the end of the monarchic Empire.
BushCo is just accelerating the process.
February 1st, 2007 at 11:04 amMost US corporations are going to go kicking and screaming before they change their policies to lower energy impacts on CO2 and other greenhouse gases.
The problem is: we aren’t scared enough and there are Repug idiots who still take the position that climate change is a liberal myth. We live in a pretty self-centered culture where people do what’s good for themselves and not for the good of society. The key is to help people see that climate change and global warming is a ‘personal’ issue… it’s about our kids, stupid. Enormous pressure that comes from consumers on behalf of their children and grandchildren will be the force that shifts the political and commercial winds.
But people have to ‘get it’ first.

Establishing tighter controls on environmental emissions might actually cut into the quarterly profits these companies enjoy. How insensitive of us concerned, liberal people. I think the time for “polite” exchanges with these companies is over and we need to make some demands, just so there is no question. Hello… Congress?
February 1st, 2007 at 11:21 amNot all companies are stonding by the wayside. USCAP is an initative that fosters action on climate change.
February 1st, 2007 at 1:21 pmWhat are you guys doing to stop this?
Washington’s New World Order Weapons Have the Ability to Trigger Climate Change

February 1st, 2007 at 1:22 pmWhat is sad is that there is STILL a debate in the USA between the ones that understand the very real threat of the Global Warming and the naysayers.
Meanwhile, outside the USA, debate has been a long time ago over.
It exists, and must be stopped ASAP.
