Bush shifts $1.3 billion away from levee funding.

“President Bush is expected to shift $1.3 billion away from raising and armoring levees, installing floodgates and building permanent pumping in Southeast Louisiana in order to plug long-anticipated financial shortfalls in other hurricane-protection projects, a move Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) describes as a retreat from the president’s commitment to protect the whole New Orleans area.”

  3. nnoodles says:

    this is outrageous.
proof positive that he has no concern for the American people.
this obsession w/”Bushes Folly” is sick, & criminal.

  4. Tom3 says:

Yesterday there was a story about over 100 levees that are in dangerous condition according to the Army Corpse of Engineers.

Chimpy does not give a shit about America. All he cares about is helping his corporate pals rip us off.

The next hurricane is going to be nasty.

this is unbelievable… and yet… Im not shocked in the least. so f*ckin sad

Yes, apparently the 1.3 mil will now be going towards faith-based initiatives that will petition the Lord with prayer to not punish us again with such a judgment. After all, we can’t depend on ’science’ to protect us, right, Jason?

(It hurts my head to try to think like a fundie….ouch.)

  7. Hardy Haberman says:

Not shocking at all. Bush is out for profit for his cronies. Money will be spent on weapons and oil. He is a criminal plain and simple and the sooner we get him out of office the better. Impeach NOW!

    It’s $1.3 BILLION.

  9. PoliticalCritic says:

Figures. George Bush is abandoning New Orleans once again.

  10. Decider in Chief G.W. Bush says:

Build more churches and pray! Hurricanes are God powered, you simply will them away through prayer, like wars…..Sheesh, do I got to do itall for ya?

  11. Dumb_Fox says:

Amongst other outrages, 1.3bn is a goddamn rounding error in terms of what we are spending on Halliburton in Iraq.

  12. Jackie says:

Senator Vitter sold out his State for Bush. He was on Meet the Press and defended everything Bush said even not saying a word about New Orleans. He knew Bush wasn’t going to help the people of his state but he was paid to sell the lie. Vitters will vote to seen more money to Iraq/Afghan for the war profiteers but not to help the people of the State he represents.
Bush never intended to help the Katrina victims as you notice Cheney got his big business friends to collect millions for doing nothing. States should look carefully as to who is in the back pocket of the President as selling the voters out.

  13. BlahBlahBlah says:

How much to pay off god?

Sen. Vitter, a strong supporter of Bush, has been bitch-slapped. Maybe it will wake the idiot up!

New Orleans already has more churches than I’ve ever seen. Big ones. Pope John Paul II said Mass to over 100,000 people in the Superdome.

  18. wormburner says:

Do the democrats have a plan of any kind for this? Or is this above top secret too like all the rest of your other plans. So secret in fact that they cannot be shared with even the voters.

    No more needs said really.

    Nuff said.

  19. wormburner says:

Ya know, sitting back and bitching all day from the comfort of your recliner is not a plan.

Do the Democrats have a plan for the levee system?
    If so let`s hear it.

    Anyone?

Well……not diverting 1.3 billion away from levee reconstruction might be a good start…don’t you think?

Please Congress: shoot that GD lame duck and put him out of our misery. PLEEEASSSE! Roll back the tax cuts for the wealthy and get some money together, for crying out loud.

He’s proving more and more each day that he really doesn’t care about people who have less than him. If it had been *HIS* house. He would have already had it rebuilt bigger and better than before.

There are several plans already out there. You might try Ivor van Heerden’s book “The Storm.” It includes a well-articulated plan for restoration of the coastal wetlands, levees and floodgates.

A good start would be completion of the Category 3 plan that Congress ordered 40 years ago, after hurrican Betsy.

Better still, would be construction of real Category 5 protection. Anyone who has studied this issue knows that the existing levee system failed under Category 1 conditions. It was built of under-reinforced too-soft materials on a foundation of too-soft materials.

  25. Karim says:

Another broken promise of the Bush crime regime.

  26. Marcus Robinson says:

David Vitters, wasn’t is the jacka$$ on “Meet The Press” this past Sunday saying Bush was funding the rebuilding efforts regarding Katrins? Oh yes he was. He stated he was a little upset that “Chimp Boy” didn’t make any comment in his SOTU address regarding Katrins but that Bush was giving them the funds.

  27. Evil Spaniard says:

Next move: blame the Democrat Mayor and Governor for the incoming disaster. Federalism and all the crap, you know.

  28. bob says:

    re: wormburner,

What does your strawman argument have to do with commenting on bush’s failures to keep his word? about anything? If your posts are any indication of your intelligence it’s obvious that you vote republican. why dont’ you stop kicking back in your recliner, aplogizing for the worst president ever and think for a minute?

ps Congress can’t institute policy, they they legislate. that’s why they’re called the “legislateurrrre” (bush pronuciailation) Even if they did propose spending money on the levees, and they have approved bush’s spending bills for that issue, bush could, and would ignore it, like he’s doing now.

The only thing the dems can do is impeach the idiot, but they don’t have the stomach for it.

  29. Marcus Robinson says:

Impeach Bush?? Give it time. Once the Libby trial puts Cheney at the CIA twisting arms to lie about intel and outting a CIA agent, Bush will be next. Sit back and watch the criminal enterprise implode.

  30. Jay Randal says:

Well Sen. Vitter are you ready to impeach Pres. Bush yet? If not then shut -up, because you are helping Bush to screw over New Orleans!

  31. big papa says:

So NOW Vitter wants to get his al Crackkker head out of Bushiva’s a*s…

  32. Bluedog49 says:

For this adminsitration there is no policy, only politics. The state which actually needs the most money for levees is California and, of course, Calle is a very blue state. The people of Calle do not like George W. Bush and he knows it.

  33. Tweedster says:

    Wurmfood –

What is your problem? Why do you hold this administration as infallible? You bluster about a lack of a plan, but the last I checked all the “plans” put forth by BushCo have been either

    A. Botched horribly
    B. Left to wither on the vine
    C. Plain ole lies

Great strategy from a great prezdint. You sir, are a mo of the first order.

    Lil’ Repug Lap Dog…

  34. tom baker says:

It turns out there are still some black people hanging around down there.

Another favorable surricane season should get rid of them, and THEN we can start rebuilding the levees.

This way, when out-of-state developers start turning the former NOLA into a condo-and-golf-convention-center-hooters-and-applebees zone, there won’t be any pesky protesters hanging around trying to “save their homes” or “preserve their communities” and stuff.

  37. Bluedog49 says:

    Tweedster: “Wurmfood –

Classic cult-like behavior. To the cultist, the cultleader must be infallible. The cultist tends to filter out any information counter to this world view.

  38. tom baker says:

Ed – sorry- should’ve put a sarcasm identifier on that post.

I was just speculating as to what some of those fine, upstanding white pillars of LA are discussing over lunch at the club.

Apparently, I’ve learned a lot from battling the trolls – not that they’re not THE most predictable bunch in the world or anything.

  39. ed says:

Understood. You channelled some pretty dark thoughts. Be careful down there.

Now if God had intended for all them coloreds to live down in the Lousisna swamp country, don`t you think he would have given them fins?

  41. katy says:

no posts from hintler on this thread? … hmmm… imagine that…

well, here’s one from the 2/2 FAST thread :

Admitting your faults is the first step to recovery. Worshipping yourselves and your fellow man leads to the type of arrogance that leads to massive loss of lives – your scientifically designed levees fell before a single storm, and the storm accepted the lives of over 1,000 as payment for your hubris.
