Last week, VoteVets launched a powerful ad campaign opposing President Bush’s escalation policy.
ThinkProgress has learned that the new ad will run during today’s Superbowl. The ad, part of the Americans Against Escalation In Iraq campaign, will air in Washington, D.C., Minnesota, and Maine, targeting Sens. John Warner (R-VA), Norm Coleman (R-MN), and Susan Collins (R-ME), respectively. Those three senators say they oppose sending more troops to Iraq, but haven’t signed on to the anti-escalation resolution sponsored by Sens. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) and Joe Biden (D-DE).
Watch the ad focusing on Sen. Norm Coleman:

GREAT! I gave to votevets AND MoveOn specifically to run this ad. Glad the corporate titans are not going to try and block it!
February 4th, 2007 at 2:32 pmOutstanding!
Stop the escalation—impeach Bush.
February 4th, 2007 at 2:36 pmCongratulations to all involved with this ad!
February 4th, 2007 at 2:39 pmHow can we get it to run in Texas? Sometimes I hate living in this gawd forsaken Neocon state.
February 4th, 2007 at 2:43 pmIs the ad just running in the places you mention during the Super Bowl? or nationwide? It was not clear to me. I hope nationwide.
It is a stunning ad and will have MAJOR impact during the Super Bowl.
February 4th, 2007 at 2:43 pmCan you not see the mess your country is in ??????
republicans and democrats stink
February 4th, 2007 at 2:47 pmThat’s a fantastic ad. I hope it will run nationwide.
February 4th, 2007 at 2:48 pmAnd the neocons will complain that this is exploiting out troops in 3…2…1…
February 4th, 2007 at 2:49 pm#1, so did I.
February 4th, 2007 at 2:49 pmThe ad is certainly commendable but it would be even more laudatory if this ad and other ads were to call upon our politicians to demand that those troops be withdrawn from that slaughterhouse as quickly and as rapidly as possible. Support the troops- bring them home-safely- now.
February 4th, 2007 at 2:54 pmbiden is not a republican
February 4th, 2007 at 2:58 pmWow… I actually feel like I live in the very country our Fore Father’s intended… As short lived as it may be…
February 4th, 2007 at 3:11 pmThe Biden-Levin-Hagel resolution no longer exists. Biden and Levin announced this week that they are signing on to the stronger Warner-Nelson-Collins-Coleman resolution. Seems like a waste of money to target Warner, Collins, Coleman when they should be targeting those who truly support the President??
February 4th, 2007 at 3:13 pmIf America had proportional representation Then whoever you voted for your vote would count , instead of the old vote blue or red as to be honest BOTH are Crap
and only true sensible laws would pass

You all just go along like lemmings, believing everything TP staff tells you.
What a dangerous time to be alive.
February 4th, 2007 at 3:29 pmHuh. I didn’t know only white people were in the armed forces.
February 4th, 2007 at 3:31 pmThey won’t admit it, but four years ago practically everyone in Congress knew that President Bush intended to invade Iraq irrespective of what Saddam had done, was doing, or intended to do.
Senator Robert Byrd (D, WV) was one of the few who tried to stop Bush In the Senate on February 12, 2003, Byrd had this to say :
“This nation is about to embark upon the first test of a revolutionary doctrine applied in an extraordinary way at an unfortunate time.
“The doctrine of preemption – the idea that the United States or any other nation can legitimately attack a nation that is not imminently threatening but may be threatening in the future – is a radical new twist on the traditional idea of self-defense.
“It appears to be in contravention of international law and the UN Charter.
“And it is being tested at a time of worldwide terrorism, making many countries around the globe wonder if they will soon be on our – or some other nation’s – hit list.”
February 4th, 2007 at 3:32 pmIt is clear to us that the aim of American planning and invasion is to destroy the infrastructure of the country and to create civil strife and conflict between the components of Iraqi society. The sectarianism that is tearing Iraq apart was unknown before the occupation. Even the long war with Iran and the brutal sanctions regime did not fracture the unity of the Iraqi people.
The Iraqi people will remain united in the face of these crimes that are orchestrated by the occupying American forces. I implore the peace loving people of the west who believe in genuine democracy to stand with the Iraqi people in their hour of need. The Iraqi people will rise to expel the occupying forces and start the mammoth task of reconstruction with Iraqi hands, and help from the peace loving people of the world.
And I particularly say to America “hands off Iraqi oilâ€. This wealth belongs to the people of Iraq and the decent people of the world.

February 4th, 2007 at 4:21 pm24, do you have facts to back up your assertions?
Or are you refering to the WMDs sold to Saddam by Reagan and Bush’s daddy, which were subsequently destroyed during Clinton’s watch?
And what does your post have to do with the subject of the superbowl ad?
Do you get paid double time for trolling on Superbowl Sunday?

Great idea. Targeting the adds to focus on the audience is something we should have been doing all along. It makes us left-winger liberals “fiscally responsible” and creative patriots, does it not? I say, YES.

February 4th, 2007 at 5:31 pmI notice the usual trolls are still here. I notice they employ the usual tactics as well - drop a few agitator bombs and fly away.
There are some varieties Human Being (i use the term loosely) that I will never understand; new Republicans being one of them.
Frankly, I am always a little sad when an American is so trusting of Government. I could understand that attitude coming from someone in China or perhaps Russia.

I think that sexual repression goes a long way towards explaining Republican psychology, at least within the party’s religious base. I used to work with a guy who was an ultra-right winger. His main news source was WorldNetDaily. He sincerely believed that Democrats were under the power of Satan. He once told me that people could only avoid sin if they had the fear of God’s retribution in them. He used exactly that word, fear. This is what drove him. What I find so interesting is that he was also obsessed with sex. He would find ways to work sex-related topics into ordinary conversation. You would be talking about one thing, and suddenly he would turn the conversation to transsexuals, or porn stars, or whatever. Very weird.

February 4th, 2007 at 7:07 pmThat is a hard hitting commercial, and when the Iraq vet waves his arm missing his hand, it makes you take notice of what Iraq Fiasco War has done to our soldiers.
February 4th, 2007 at 7:54 pmSaw Tobey’s stuff earlier and the venus troll challenge him on it - pity venus doesn’t know Tobey is a Scot - he sees failure to stop the Busheviks as almost as culpable as the Busheviks themselves. It’s a valid world view.
People around the world do wonder why, if 2 thirds of Americans (now) oppose the Busheviks, they can’t or won’t stop him as he prepares to escalate in Iraq and attack Iran
February 4th, 2007 at 8:17 pm#48 - Pity Venus doesn’t care if Toobe’s a Scot - the “Comrade” network is worldwide - but you knew that.

Or, you could just STFU.

You’ve got the right name.
From a fellow BCer, and straight I might add, it’s truly unbelievable that there are still bigoted putz’s like you out there.
Here’s a link to the wikipedia definition of the bill:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_C-250
Bill C-250 is a law, endorsed by Amnesty International, to protect a minority group (in this case gays and lesbians) from violence and hate crimes, strictly because of their sexual orientation. To equate this with endorsing or encouraging pedophile behavior is ludicrous, and hate-mongering in its own right.
Funny how the sexually suppressed far right are the usual suspects in so many pedophile cases, though.

Try running only the words, i.e., without the quotation marks.
You’ll get an article that explains the list of quotations is given without context or is incomplete or is augmented. When correct quotation is given, the speakers almost invariably qualify their statements with variations of “if Saddam has WMD,” or “let the UN handle it.” I could find no instances of the sort of bald-faced lies and distortions of which the current administration is guilty.
