Homophobic?

Homophobic?

Grab a Snickers.

72 Responses to “Homophobic?”

  1. Jay Randal says:

I hate Snickers bars, because I broke a tooth once eating one. The peanuts usually taste stale and mixed with that fake caramel is kinda gross. So anyway let the homophobic rednecks eat Snickers bars and break all their teeth out.

  2. Hardy Haberman says:

This commercial is about as insensitive as it gets. The ending with the characters beating each other with monkey wrenches outright encourages violence against gays. Snickers is off my list of candy for good. Besides, I will be healthier without the empty callories.

  3. katy says:

no, not homophobic… just gross… those dudes were UGLY!…
but mostly it was just stupid – i hate commercials that insult my intelligence.

now, i’ll pause to read the links…

  4. Mike says:

Dead on comment. That was a totally homophobic commercial, and as I was hosting a party where gay people were in attendance, it provided a real awkward moment for everyone.

    Thanks Snickers!

  5. klyde says:

    Can’t see it what happens?

  6. molly johnson says:

Does anyone know if downs syndrome is contagious to other children? I have a daughter who is six years old and in 1st grade. I have been told these children are always sickly and tend to put their fingers in their mouths and noses and other non traditonal orifices alot out of curiosity. Does anyone know if their have been any reported studies in downs syndrome being contagious? I have googled until I can no longer google any more.

One of the ladies at my church Sunday school has 4 downs syndrome children in her Sunday school classes.
She keeps these children seperated from the rest of the class because she was told that downs has been reported to be catching. I am a young mother and I don`t know whether to believe this woman or not.

She is also the local school nurse. She makes sure the downs kids are always kept seperate from the rest of the normal children. Do I have anything to worry about as far as my little Lisa catching anything from these types of kids just by being in the same building with them? Has anyone ever heard of the effectiveness of downs syndrome quarantine for these types of children?

I really feel sorry for these children but when it comes right down to it and when it comes to push and shove, my daughter is going to live a normal, long and healthy life over these genetically inferior homo mutants.
I will pull my daughter out of public school to save her life and put her in private school. But what about the parents that can`t afford to just pull their kids out of school? Should their kids die for the socially accepted vanity of having downs kids educated in public schools? Why isn`t the CDC all over this? Have you people as a news gathering source ever covered this story?

I am seriously considering having my daughter wear one of those surgeons masks like the Chinese do when bird flu is rampant. Couldn`t these downs children be federally mandated to volunteer for stem cell research?
To allow us to wipe this downs syndrome disease off the map like we did with polio and smallpox in the 1920s?
How many downs syndrome children are in your little Johhnies or Jennys class and school? Are they kept quarantined away from your children at all times? You better ask your local public school superintendent and demand quarantine if they are not currently being quarantined.

It is better to be safe than sorry as far as our children are concerned. I wouldn`t want to personally wakeup one morning only to find my little Lisa had taken ill with downs syndrome. This would be too awful to take.
Thank you for your time and ask your school and local school board for a downs list of students. Ask if they are quarantined while getting their federally mandated education. If they are not being quarantined then you have a legal right to demand thjose chioldren be kept away from yours.

The older downs child tends to be uninhibited in their sexual gratification quest. Just like monkeys I am told by our local school board. There have been reports of the older downs kids fondling and in some cases raping whomever happens to cross their pathnat the time of the thought of that particular pleasure.

It will not be happening to my daughter I assure you. Demand this from your local school board. Why let an already mentally damaged person mentally damage your child and for no good reason at all? Could you really live with yourself if your little girl or boy got raped by one of these monsters while at school?
Demands answers! I did. And now my children and all of my communities child can be safe from these mentally damaged organisms.

  7. Democrat Soldier says:

Actually, when I saw the commercial, I laughed!

After having seen the ‘alternative’ endings, I think it was in poor taste. Why even interview the football players to get their reaction? Did Coka-Cola interview them over their commercials?

  8. arley arledge says:

We have all heard what them gays do with them snickers bars.
At least the gays have PETA on their side now and are leaving hamsters and gerbils alone.

  9. katy says:

ok… definitely homophobic… sorry… i did not look at this ad when it came on because it was so stupid, the premise, the stereotyping…

reading the information linked brings a better understanding…

this commercial needs to be pulled, now…

  10. no longer surprised says:

If you watch the player commentary to the video on the snickerssatisfies website; one of the players, Mushin Muhammad, suggests that gays are thieves. Something about how the guy with the long hair isn’t right and that Mushin would check his CD collection before leaving the garage.

    pathetic.

  11. Democrat Soldier says:

    #5 – Original commercial:
Guy unwraps a Snickers and sticks it in his mouth and chews on one end.
The other guy sees the Snickers and starts chewing on the other end.
They end up mouth-to-mouth and then jump apart.
Guy 2: “I think we just accidentally kissed!”
    Guy 1:”Quick! Do comething manly!”
Guy 2 teats his shirt open and rips off some chest hair and yells.
Guy 1 reaches into his overalls and rips off some chest hair and yells.

One of the alternative endings is when they do “something manly”, Guy 2 grabs a wrench and hits Guy 1 in the stomach. Then he leans over the engine and Guy 1 slams the car hood down on him.

Basically, immature “straight” activity over the fear they did something “gay”.

Get over it! Their IQ is WAY TOO LOW to be anywhere close to being gay!
(That last sentence was a joke, by the way!)

  12. Democrat Soldier says:

#6 – Molly Johnson, if down syndrome was “catchable” from touching someone, then you’d have it as well.

Down Syndrome is a genetic disorder. you can’t “catch it” from other people unless you are their natural child. I hesitate to remind you that “homos” don’t breed, so it’s impossible for them to pass it on. Your description just proves how sorry the US Education system has truly become.

Now, before you emit any other in-bred ramblings, go to these links so you and those of your ilk can feel better about yourselves.

  13. Technodaoist says:

    Democat Soldier,

I think Molly Johnson was posting that ‘tongue-in-cheek’… to show how tasteless the ad was and how it promotes negative reactions to stereotypes… at least I hope so… it was off topic, but hyperbole usually is.

If not, the tastelessness (its a word) and ignorance of the Snicker’s ad has been trumped…

  14. katy says:

about the troll molly johnson… juan has it right in the next thread:

Its a provocative, inflaming post in order to derail discussions.
    Comment by Juan C — February 5, 2007 @ 2:11 pm

    no one is that stupid…

  15. sking says:

Ridiculous…I’m gay and I didn’t find anything wrong with this commercial. If you don’t like Mars then don’t eat their products. It’s that simple!! I guess the ignorant rednecks of the world should feel targeted also!! I appreciate your concern for the gay cause but your efforts are being wasted on a candy bar company.

  16. Jet Mech says:

How does a kiss make one gay? I mean I see fathers kiss their sons and daughters all the time, as well as mothers. It doesn’t make them pedophiles or gay. I could say that football players that pat each other on the ass makes them gay as well. Now if the guy had a snickers sticking out of his zipper and another guy started munching on it then well maybe that would be gay.

  17. klyde says:

#11 thanks. so it’s sort of like real life?

  18. ggibson says:

There is nothing wrong with straight guys not wanting to be gay or even “accidentally kissing” .. I thought this story was going to lead to a bunch of guys beating the crap out of a gay guy…

  19. arley arledge says:

I mean I see fathers kiss their sons and daughters all the time, as well as mothers.>

Not on the lips and mouth you do not. Unless they are a free spirited deomocratic values family.

  20. Jay Randal says:

Worst part of the Snickers ad is the alternate ending of them drinking anti-freeze and motor oil. Drinking anti-freeze leads to instant death and motor oil would cause kidney failure and probable death as well. Snickers will be sued if any kids or teenagers drink that stuff now.

  21. Jet Mech says:

I think it’s interesting to see how easily people frame another due to a visual stimulant. I could as well say that eating snickers makes gays go straight.
Or makes gays tough or makes rednecks gay or makes people do stupid things like drinking oil.

Do mechanics drink oil? Of course not.
    Do gays drink oil? Nope.
Do people who eat snickers become violent? They were violent before.

Not on the lips and mouth you do not. Unless they are a free spirited deomocratic values family.
    -Arley

See here is a perfect example of someone who has been framed, I didn’t say on the mouth, you assumed that and you also pundit wise assume democrats have different family values because of some talking head perhaps. Democratic is a political ideology.

You live in a Democracy, yes? Does that make you have gay values?

  22. Jet Mech says:

The point is people are easily framed to believe things that just aren’t so.

Politicians take advantage of that cause people are basically single minded.

Liberal does not mean gay unless you allow someone to frame you.
Republican does not mean wacko fundamentalist does it?
There are log cabin Republicans, should I call all Republicans Loggers?
Rush is a Republican and had a drug problem, does that make all Republicans drug addicts?
Ted Haggard was a Christian? Should I group all Christians now as meth users?
Ted Kennedy drove drunk and so did Cheney, does that make all politicians drunk drivers?
Of course not, don’t be part of the pundit framing problem be part of the solution.

  23. arley arledge says:

See here is a perfect example of someone who has been framed, I didn’t say on the mouth,

    Comment by Jet Mech — February 5, 2007 @ 2:40 pm

No but the commercial did and that is what we are referring to, not your strawman argument.

  24. Jet Mech says:

If kissing makes you gay, then George W Bush sucking face with the Prince of Saudi Arabia would certainly make him gay, as they have doen it more than once and it wasn’t an accident, either time.
Plus, they like to handle hands, as they walk through the blue bonnets.
    Comment by Spudge_Boy

LOL. That’s funny but it could be twisted as such.

  25. cynicalgirl says:

Snickers is made by M&M Mars. It’s a privatley owned company, very secretive and worth billions. They are behind the campaign to eliminate the estate tax. They are scum. If you want to boycott them, include Dove, Uncle Ben’s and KalKan dog food.

Molly, you can make your post right if you change each down childs with catholic priests. Now you are correct.

  27. Jet Mech says:

No but the commercial did and that is what we are referring to, not your strawman argument.

The commercial said they were democrats?

    Talk about strawmen.

  28. arley arledge says:

Ted Kennedy drove drunk and so did Cheney, does that make all politicians drunk drivers?

    Comment by Jet Mech — February 5, 2007 @ 2:50 pm

Cheney never killed anyone driving drunk.
    Kennedy did.

    Next!

  29. arley arledge says:

Lemme throw a match on that strawman argument Jet Mech.

    Next!

  30. Daryll says:

Grow up liberals, the commercial was hilarious. Any sane man that noticed that kissed accidentally kissed another man would play it off, it’s just not natural. GO COLTS (Fort Wayne, In)!!!!!!!

  31. Jet Mech says:

Actually when I looked at the commercial I saw two log cabin closet Republicans eating a turdblossom then kissing and then going back into closet mode
    (kidding)

  32. Jet Mech says:

Lemme throw a match on that strawman argument Jet Mech.

Naw you jusr threw a match on Rush, Colbert, Coulter, and every other talking head. Point proven.

    Haw Haw!!!

    Match Set Jet wins!!

  33. agnes miller says:

    Molly Johnson,

My school nurse tell me that what causes gays to be gays is the fact that they suffer from a more mild form of downs syndrome.
You would be well advised to keep your kids away from gays too since they are derived from the downs syndrome virus at birth. They gays are the -normal- downs kids is what our church group and the school nurse tells us.

  34. Jet Mech says:

    Comment by Daryll

The commercial is funny in a stupid way. Like the three stooges.

  35. Jet Mech says:

Cheney never killed anyone driving drunk.
    Kennedy did.

Oh but hunting drunk and shooting someone?

I guess that means that all Republicans shoot people when they drink.

    Lame Arley Lame.

  36. Jet Mech says:

My school nurse tell me that what causes gays to be gays is the fact that they suffer from a more mild form of downs syndrome.

Your joking right? Mark Foley had downs syndrome?

Republican Mayor Jeffrey Kyle Randall was sentenced to 275 days in jail for molesting two boys — ages ten and 12 — during a six-year period.

    And this guy?

Republican judge Mark Pazuhanich pleaded no contest to fondling a 10-year old girl and was sentenced to 10 years probation.

    And this guy?

  37. Democrat Soldier says:

    #40 – Good argument!

Iraq had to “prove” they didn’t have WMD’s or we would attack them.

So, Arley needs to prove that VPres. Cheney DIDN’T kill anyone while driving drunk or else she’s wrong on all accounts.

See how simple the neo-con logic is?

  38. Zooey says:

That’s one dumb-assed troll we’ve got on this thread — talking to itself.

  39. Admin says:

  40. Democrat Soldier says:

#42 – “Where is your proof that Cheney killed ANYONE driving drunk?”
    Comment by Arley Arledge — February 5, 2007 @ 3:33 pm

We are using the neo-con format for evidence. We don’t need to prove anything, but you have to prove everything!

Hey, if it works for Pres. Bush and his yes-men, then it works for us!

Now, where’s the proof that V.Pres. Cheney NEVER killed ANYONE while he was driving drunk? If you cannot present the proof, then you lose!

(Remember, if you disagree with the neo-con Administrations way of doing things, then you HATE AMERICA!)

  41. KikiD says:

Laura Bush didn’t “get off” in a court of law–charges were never filed in the case. Big difference.

  42. Zooey says:

I bet it will start talking about my ass in 3…….2……..1…..
    Comment by Spudge_Boy

Oops, I guess I shouldn’t have used the “ass” in my comment.
    My bad.

  43. Zooey says:

    Dem Soldier,

Thanks for the link on the HPV thread.

  44. Eskwaya says:

    Not anti-gay.
If I kissed a guy accidentally, I would probably feel repulsed as well. So, the reactions of the ball players is a sympathetic reaction. Not necessarily an anti-gay reaction.

  45. TheSeixon says:

So a commercial making fun of straight guys acting stupid for thinking they appeared gay is “gay-bashing” and “incites violence against gays”?

Did some people forget to take their crazy pills this morning?

  46. Zooey says:

Did some people forget to take their crazy pills this morning?
    Comment by TheSeixon

You might want to get right on that…..

  47. Liberal in New Mexico says:

What that a Snickers bar? I thought the guys were into skat.

  48. Democrat Soldier says:

#52 – “Did some people forget to take their crazy pills this morning?” Comment by TheSeixon — February 5, 2007 @ 4:07 pm

No, I think you took your crazy-pills on time today. You’ve been acting neo-con crazy ever since I’ve read your ramblings.

  49. Justan American says:

Who really gives a crap! Its not real food anyway and not fit for human consumption. Read the ingredients and then google such ingredients and then track where MARS Inc. gets the ingredients from. America’s food supply is just another, in my belief, major issue in this country not being addressed. INFORM THYSELF!

  50. Buck -The Crippler- Stevens says:

So this is where all of the true closet gays hangout. On this thread. You know what they say….” Doust protest too much ” and most of the commenters here are just curious to see if they have been found out yet, but they are just too afraid to admit it. Yes, the true definition of homophobia is found right here at TP.

  51. TheSeixon says:

    Spudge,

No crazy pill needed. Did you bother watching the alternative endings for the comercial? I am sure you didn’t, but will say you did. If you don’t see the gay bashing, that is your problem and only points to the bigger problem in this country.

Yes, I did, actually. And no, I don’t see how two straight guys acting stupid can be gay-bashing. Displaying straight men repulsed by kissing (1) someone they are not attracted to and (2) the sex they are not attracted to is “gay-bashing”?

Doesn’t gay-bashing usually, I don’t know, consist of bashing a gay person for being gay? Next you’ll tell me that two straights guys making fun of each other for wearing pink dresses is “transvestite-bashing”.

  52. Buck -The Crippler- Stevens says:

Why don`t you gays make your own commercial if you don`t like this one. You are a minority in the US. Get used to it and get over yourselves already. The world wasn`t created (suprise!) just for you. You are not in the mainstream and never will be. Go leech off of another party and cause and leave mine alone.

  53. Democrat Soldier says:

#59 – “So this is where all of the true closet gays hangout.”

Nope, I have no use for the closet nor does my partner. Why are YOU haging out here? Maybe you want to give the other team a try, right?

“Yes, the true definition of homophobia is found right here at TP.” Comment by Buck -The Crippler- Stevens — February 5, 2007 @ 5:04 pm

Actually, it’s the trolls (such as yourself) that have an unreasoning fear of homosexuals. It’s people like you that define and bring homophobia to TP.

I’ve been posting here for years, and the only homophobic remarks I’ve read are from trolls.

Methinks the man doth protest too much! (Type it right, silly boy!)

  54. TheSeixon says:

This is all pretty funny, since Larry Johnson constantly attacks me with gay slurs. Seems he thinks all his enemies are gay. I think I know what to make of that, what you guys think?

  55. Zooey says:

    Seixon,

I would hazard a guess that Larry Johnson thinks you’re gay.

  56. Willy says:

What’s the fuss? My take on the commerical was that it was making fun of homophobic, macho, insecure guys (sounds like your typical Republican to me). The only problem was the violence.

  57. Granola Hippy says:

Oh for god sake, it was just a stupid commercial, not anti-gay propaganda.

  58. Zooey says:

Yeah, I’ll bet. I just scream out gayness don’t I. LOL.
    Comment by Seixon

    If you insist.

  59. Ron Paul for Pres says:

I have to say it in this thread too. The ad was mocking homophobia, not promoting it.

  60. Eric says:

The ad was mocking homophobia? But you laughed when they kissed, right? Because a kiss between two “manly” men is inherently unnatural, unnexpected, and disgusting, right?

If you didn’t to some extent identify with the disgust at an accidental kiss, you didn’t find the ad funny. All you gay people who say you found this ad funny, I say you’re self-loathing. Which is OK, because we’ve been socialized to find a kiss between two men disgusting. THAT’s why we laugh at this ad.

Ads like this are insidious because they pretend to be criticism of homophobia, but that’s just really the cloak everyone hides behind to justify them. Disgust at homosexuality is SOCIALIZED, everybody. That doesn’t mean that everyone is secretly gay, but if you weren’t socialized to think a gay kiss is funny or gross, you wouldn’t find it funny or gross. You’d just shrug your shoulders. Just like I do when I see a straight kiss.

Ads like this just reinforce those lessons: being gay is wrong, gay kisses are shameful, even when they happen by accident, and to be gay is to be something less than a man.
