to the unruly Office of the Vice President,” the Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO) has formally petitioned the Attorney General to direct Cheney’s office “to comply with a requirement that executive branch organizations disclose statistics on their classification and declassification activity to ISOO. For the last three years, Cheney’s office has refused to divulge its classification statistics to ISOO, despite a seemingly explicit requirement that it do so.”
There are people who still feel this Admin is capable of following thier own rules? Thats a hoot.
February 7th, 2007 at 12:30 pmThere’s a thing we like to call “Seperation of Powers.” Cheney doesn’t have to comply with these political scumbags.
February 7th, 2007 at 12:36 pmWhat I love is the Republicans who clamor about Democrats and obstructionism.
Even when they controlled both houses of Congress, the administration simply ignored their own party. With folks such as Pat Roberts around doing everything in their power to protect the administration, you have to wonder why this type of thing happened?
Wouldn’t you love it if, after we impeach Bush and Cheney, the American people were able to go after the 107th, 108th and 109th Congresses for obstruction of justice?
February 7th, 2007 at 12:36 pmC’mon, Big Dick is above our known laws.
February 7th, 2007 at 12:36 pm(A small unnoticed insert in the Patriot Act completely revised his powers. He is to be now known as)…
‘Lord High Commander of all Neosluts and Keeper of the Holy Purse’!
…the Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO) has formally petitioned the Attorney General to direct Cheney’s office “to comply with a requirement that executive branch organizations disclose statistics on their classification and declassification activity to ISOO.
Are you kidding??? They’re asking Gonzo to uphold the law and hold Cheney accountable?
That’s like petitioning a cougar to direct a bear to stop mauling you.
February 7th, 2007 at 12:37 pmYeah, Abu Gonzales is gonna cross “Dick.”
Just sayin’
February 7th, 2007 at 12:40 pmTripmaster and Zooey- totally agree. Gonzales isn’t going to do a damn thing.
February 7th, 2007 at 12:48 pmThe concept of the unitary executive and unfettered executive branch power usurped by the illegal and unlawful excuse “we are in a war,” or “during wartime the President(and therefore the Vice-President and all of the Presidents’ Men, by connection)have extraordinary powers to do whatever he or they deem necessary to safeguard the nation”(read “to do whatever the hell they want to
February 7th, 2007 at 12:51 pmalong with the Vice-President and all of the Presidents’ men”). This kind of psychobabble gobbledygook, insane grandeur-deluded prattle has no place in America! The sooner Torticola Cheney, David Addington, John Yoo, all neocons, CHIMPya and all of Bushland Uber Allies ARE MADE TO REALIZE THIS AND CHARGED FOR THEIR HIGH CRIMES, HARDLY MISDEMEANORS, JAILED, AND IF NEED BE, EXECUTED FOR THEIR HIJACKING OF AMERICAN FREEDOM AND LIBERTIES ON THE FLIMSY PRETENSE OF NATIONAL SECURITY, THE BETTER OFF AMERICA AND AMERICANS WILL BE, DAMN IT!!!!!
Pipe dream.
Know why? As I’ve pointed out many times, the Office of the Vice President does not consider itself an “executive branch organization.”
In their own words –
“The Vice Presidency is a unique office that is neither a part of the executive branch nor a part of the legislative branch, but is attached by the Constitution to the latter.”
http://www.gpoaccess.gov/plumbook/2004/p226_appendix5.pdf
Cheney’s COS and former counsel has argued this very questionable interpretation on a number of things which has in tern allowed OVP to be exempt from various disclosures.
February 7th, 2007 at 12:53 pmO.K. Then, let’s find a way to lock all these animels up in their own zoo…Or declare open season, please do so, I’m ready…..Blessings
February 7th, 2007 at 12:53 pmfirehead
Quick! Go soak your head and put out the fire before you burn any more brain cells!
The Executive Branch is supposed to “execute”, that is put into practice, the policies and laws enacted by the Legislative Branch. The Executive Branch does not get to make up or follow only its own set of laws. I am tired of BushCo legislating from the Oval Office (or the VP’s office).
February 7th, 2007 at 12:53 pmCheney is not only stupid, he’s also exceedingly arrogant! I can’t wait for these incompetent fools to either be impeached or the next administration to take office.
February 7th, 2007 at 1:02 pmTHERE HE IS… GET ‘EM! What’s Dick gonna do -go to ISOO and shoot everyone in the face?
February 7th, 2007 at 1:03 pmI make a motion to return election of the Vice President to its original form.
February 7th, 2007 at 1:11 pmIn that, in a Presidental election, the winner, and his party, was President.
The runner-up, and his party, became the Vice President.
Imagine that, balance of power……….
Funny how this non-compliance begins when Dick and friends were selling the nation on the idea of the Iraq War.
February 7th, 2007 at 1:36 pmThe only problem with this is the ISOO is asking Gonzalez to enforce a law affecting the OVP, and I think we all know what the likelihood of that happening is.
February 7th, 2007 at 2:14 pmIt’s nice to know Cheney is a equal opportunist when it comes to saying Go F*ck Yourself!
February 7th, 2007 at 2:42 pmDick Cheney makes the Mafioso look like child’s play!
February 7th, 2007 at 3:04 pmThere’s a thing we like to call “Seperation of Powers.†Cheney doesn’t have to comply with these political scumbags.
Comment by firehead — February 7, 2007 @ 12:36 pm
Hey genius! Along with “separation of powers”, we also
got something called
“checks and balances”
and, if it is the law that Dickie-boy has to comply, he’s gotta comply…
And you call the people who want to know HOW MUCH and HOW OFTEN Cheney is screwing you and me every day behind closed doors the “political scumbags”!
Talk about screwy priorities! Ah, but what’s a girl to expect from
February 7th, 2007 at 3:32 pma Republican Trollsie?
As if Abu Gonzales were to going to force his evil buddy to play by the rules… One has to wonder what that rotten crew has to hide.
February 7th, 2007 at 4:00 pmSOME THING TO THINK ABOUT CHENEY . CHENEY AT THE C I A CHERRY PICKING WHO HE WANTS TO TELL WHAT TO SAY AFYER 9/11 THE FIRST V P TO GO THERE HE IS ROTTER FROM DAY ONE.
February 7th, 2007 at 4:01 pmTHEY CALL THAT CHERRYU PICKING!
February 7th, 2007 at 4:04 pmbut, but, but…OVP is a 4th branch of government. The executive gets OVP info at the pleasure of the VP.
(cheney sux HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA …take that republican moron enablers of the worst human on earth owning the OVP.)
February 7th, 2007 at 4:34 pm.
When will these senators learn that Cheney and his Gonzo guard dog are just laughing at them. Until impeachment proceedings for Cheney begin he will not be bothered. You know he lied in his “no doubt” speech that took us to war. He can be removed from office as a threat to national security as well as Gonzales before impeachment proceedings ever begin. Who will protect the senate if Cheney decides to dismiss them? Somebody better do something “preemptive” to bring this man back into line because all you’ll get from him is “Go f__k yourself” as he has already told us all. Impeachment would actually rally the country again (and perhaps the world). Somebody stop him. He has no more power than we allow him. So get URGENT.
February 7th, 2007 at 5:37 pmwe’ll be at war with Iran and syria before our new (so proud to be the first madame) speaker of the house recants on her promise not to bring impeachment proceedings against this president.
February 8th, 2007 at 9:26 amHow about a non binding resolution on I’m ready for a real democracy now ,instead of this pitiful shell game called the 2 party system .
the smoke and mirror routine of rule by wealth and corporate controlling interest stock holders is about to destroy both the soul and integrity of this nation .
I just returned from a month in Europe and from cities that were over 80 percent destroyed at the end of WW11 ( no not sci fi ) and these( unelected? ) monsters are pushing us toward just such a conflagration .Maybe the democrats can spend another month fine tuning another non binding resolution .
in the mean time I’ll be deciding whether to store more canned goods in the basement or flee the country for tora bora !
a burp in world oil and the entire world will be involved .bush policies have destabilized arguably the worlds most important region and an attack on Iran would involve us and our erst while allies in a major conflict for control of that oil which was exactly the point of this mis adventure .The neo cons have always planned for this and this is their pedal to the metal strategy from the start.
February 8th, 2007 at 9:42 amIn germany during the war ,people used the expression Donner wetter, or thunder weather in stead of excellent ,it means 3 sheets to the wind or to go all out beyond the ordinary constraints of convention and morality .this attitude led to the almost complete destruction of their cities and civilization .Same ilk , same strategy , perhaps the same outcome .
Dick cheney and his neo con allies are above our laws and conventions .Yet no one in congress bothers to bring up their membership in the PNAC or that this had been their plan pre 911.
February 8th, 2007 at 9:49 amhey but isn’t it incredible that our new house speaker is a girl and that the republicans lost the election .
SMOKE AND MIRRORS
