Yesterday, the White House released an “Open Letter” on President Bush’s views on climate change. A portion of the letter argued Bush has “consistenly” acknowledged “humans are contributing” to global warming:

Yet on three occasions last year, Bush claimed there was still a “debate” among scientists over whether global warming is manmade or natural:
– “I think we have a problem on global warming. I think there is a debate about whether it’s caused by mankind or whether it’s caused naturally, but it’s a worthy debate. It’s a debate, actually, that I’m in the process of solving…” [7/6/06]
– “There is a debate over whether it’s manmade or naturally caused.” [6/26/06]
– “First of all, the globe is warming. The fundamental debate — is it manmade or natural?” [3/29/06]
The “fundamental debate” ended long ago among climate scientists. Last week, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) — a group consisting of the world’s foremost climatologists — issued a report that represents “history’s most definitive statement of scientific consensus on climate change.” Its main findings: global warming is “unequivocal” and human activity is the main driver, “very likely” causing most of the rise in temperatures since 1950.
White House is full of freshly picked cherries.
February 8th, 2007 at 5:23 pmYale and Harvard should be embarrassed that he has degrees from their institutions.
February 8th, 2007 at 5:24 pmBush!? accepts what science exactly????
There is no science save the science of the magical baby jesus, and NOBODY knows that better than the Dubbie…..
Why do they even waste time trying to whitewash these things?
WHY HAS THE IMPEACHMENT NOT BEGUN????
February 8th, 2007 at 5:24 pmThe depth of the current administration’s understanding of global warming is equivalent to the depth of an oil slick on all of the Earth’s waters from a single drop of Three-in-One oil.
February 8th, 2007 at 5:26 pmgee… wonder why he had nothing to say about during the past FIVE YEARS… 02 – 07, nothing…
February 8th, 2007 at 5:28 pmDespite great hype that Bush would change course on global warming in the State of the Union, he did nothing of the kind.
February 8th, 2007 at 5:29 pmBush literally never used the term “global warming” in the SOTU. Instead, he offered a single mention of GOP language guru Frank Lutz’ preferred talking point term, “global climate change.”
There is a five year gap between the second quote, and the third.
February 8th, 2007 at 5:29 pmAnd, he has actually done nothing…..
The science on global warm ain’t out yet. Brit Hume was saying the other night most of “scientists” on the latest findings were actually politically appointees. There is no consensus.
Plus, the last week has been one the coldest on record. Then, you have that faked picture of polar bear stranded. It’s all lies, lies, and more lies by the mainstream media and libbys.
February 8th, 2007 at 5:30 pmIt’s normal political double-speak. He says different things depending on who his audience is. All politicians do that. Most hide it better than Bush though. He’s too literal.
Seriously, why would anyone be surprised at this?

I knew a guy once who set the top of his TV on fire, saw naked women in the flames and masterbated to it. Really, no joke. I work with nutcases, like you. You remind me of that guy.

Oh my goodness! Exactly how is he going to solve the debate? When he solves it, I hope he reveals his solution to the rest of us!
What a buffoon!

So let me get this straight… The government is officially opposed to the idea of global warming. It isn’t happening, or it isn’t caused by man, so they spend all this effort to get their pet scientists on these panels and what do they come up with?? Global Warming is real and it’s caused by humans. Yep.. I agree.. it’s all lies.
BTW: Using cold temperatures to “disprove” global warming just means you have no idea what Global Warming is. Do us a favor: Read a book.

Remember, this is the president who ‘unsigned’ the Kyoto treaty saying it would never be ratified and soothed the opposition by saying that we would do better than Kyoto and it wouldn’t wreck the economy. Since then…. we’ve been standing still on environmental regulation.

No thank you. We saw how you “solved” Iraq and Katrina. Just resign and we’ll take it from here.
Cheers,

Well, Britt HUme is a lyin’ sack’o’sh*te. If he’s referring to the IPCC, it is true that gummint representatives ironed the actual report out, but they based their report on the studies of lots and lots of scientists who also agree with the consensus IPCC report.
Cheers,

February 8th, 2007 at 6:06 pmAll you libs should listen to the president. He believes in Global Warming and so should you. So stop denying it. Only a pinko liberal would deny our planet changes.
February 8th, 2007 at 6:17 pmPresident Bush is a tedious bore who never told the truth a day in his life, except back when he was high on drugs, drunk as a skunk and couldn’t help himself.
February 8th, 2007 at 6:34 pmGeorge Washington was an honest President who confessed to his father that he chopped down a cherry tree.
February 8th, 2007 at 6:36 pmGeorge Bush is a mendacious President that cherry picks information to prop up his lies.
In 08 when all the lies have been told, the pukes will be out of a job for an extended period if the democrats look left and find their roots. Simple proposition. Where’s Howard?

If the IPCC said that they were “virtually certain” that man was “causing” global warming, then there would be no debate.
Unfortunately for the TP Disaster Brigades, the IPCC did not say that, nor did they say that man was the “cause” (read the section on attribution), nor did they use the words catastrophe or dangerous or any other of those scare words inspired by Dr Lakhoff.

Well, in a way this is “normal.” It’s normal for Bush. And yes, Bush says different things to different audiences. In other words, he tells the truth when it’s convenient, and he lies when it’s convenient. Apparently this doesn’t bother you, but it bothers me.

Uh, the IPCC SPM says that it is “very likely” that humans have caused most of the warming of the 20th century. So I don’t know what IPCC you’re referring to here.
February 9th, 2007 at 8:30 amThe IPCC does not say that anthropogenic emissions are the sole cause of warming in the 20th century. And it does not say that human activity is the sole cause for the observed trends and changes in the 20th century climate. Read the section on atribution.
If the IPCC consensus thought humans were the sole cause they would have said so with “virtual certainty” and they would haven’t said “most of the warming”. Temperature is only one aspect of cliimate. Other aspects of climate are discussed in the AR4 and observed trends and changes are not soley attributed to human activity.
February 9th, 2007 at 10:51 amI just love the part of that quote where he says hes in the process of solving the problem
February 9th, 2007 at 11:00 am“It’s a debate, actually, that I’m in the process of solving…” Just great! “THE Decider” is solving Global Warming. When will he desend to give us simple folk the answer?
February 9th, 2007 at 12:02 pmI know something else that science justifies. You see, in a few years there will be no more drinking water. Therefor, it is justified to prohibit the production of water-poisoning beverages like cola, fanta, sprite, 7up, anything that has sugar or other ‘drugs’ in them. Stop living it up, start giving a phuk.
