The 2003 Iranian ‘grand bargain’ offer.

Since Condoleezza Rice and Elliot Abrams have such awful memories of it, here’s a reminder: the original fax of the offer.

No offer of a good shoe deal in there…

  2. Grand Moff Texan says:

No one could have anticipated the use of faxes to make Rice look like the result of cynical Republican tokenism.

    No fair!

I mean, nobody could have foreseen that we would get our ass handed to us in Iraq and we would be left begging God for an offer like this from Iran.

Yes, the Libtards had warned us about this but everybody knows you cannot take the word of those anti-American Libtards who just want to surrender to Osama Bin Laden and make French the official language of the US.

    Signed: Kinda Sleezy Rice.

  4. TerrytheTurtle says:

Does anyone remember Saddam’s attempt to negotiate with US just before the invasion? Anyone got the link?

  5. Wayne says:

That’s some pretty damning evidence against the Administration. Iran, after seeing us invade Iraq, was ready to start diplomatic negotiations.

Instead they are pushing to put more of our men and women into the meat grinder the Middle East will become if we invade Iran.

    Sick People, those neocons.

  6. Kathy Slifer says:

Zbigniew Brgezinshi and Richard H Matzhe from the Iran Task Force group in 2004 said grand bargain wont work. Only thing that will work is opening more and more conversation with Iran. Dissenting from that was Carlyles Carlucci, who seemed to think talking made the US look weak. Its interesting that Robert Gates was on that committee and did not dissent from the group recommendation urging more talks.

  7. veritas says:

If these guys are experiencing such memory lapses and mental problems, then they should be retired due to incompetence! Let’s fire their royal arsses out of there now. After all, we’re paying their salaries – would you hire and keep an incompetent the likes of these guys in your employ very long??

  8. TerrytheTurtle says:

And then of course, the administration brags (falsely) that the Iraq invasion was the only thing that persuaded Gaddafi to fess up to Libya’s nuke program…. that message sympathy for the US after 9-11 seems like a long time ago….

  9. veritas says:

Of course, diplomacy has never been the forte of this administration; rather, they like playing “bully in the schoolyard” way too much for any act of diplomacy. Now Bush Bully will be getting his just desserts with ongoing investigations and further besmerching of his personal character…..not to mention impeachment proceedings.

  10. Xbot says:

DON’T LET IRAN HAPPEN. We do not want war with Iran. STOP THE GULF OF TONKIN INCIDENT THAT BUSH IS CREATING, NOW!

It’s a wonder that Corn-Doll Rice has any memory at all. I didn’t even realize she was a real person, until recently. I thought she was the monkey-boy’s imaginary friend.
Every day that goes by brings the realization of impeachment and accountability into more focus. Thank you, Jesus -And, I don’t mean the Repubs fake Jesus that votes straight party ticket. I mean the REAL Jesus, that punishes evil-doers and demons from hell with a vengeance. HOO-RAH!

I’ve got a bargain for Iran Give up your nuclear program in 24 hours or I’ll drop 50 thermo-nukes all over your country (maybe 100). Remember the line from Terminator 2: You better have SPF 50,000 sun tan lotion. You want to wipe the US and Israel off the map? Good luck when Terhan is a moon like crater.

Perhaps you should check this out before you advocate nuking another country.

Tell us how you are going to keep the radiation in Iran and stop it from speading in the wind to other countries?

Perfect illustration of how fire destroys brain tissue!

    Firehead,

Trivia question, who is the ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD to have ever used nukes on innocent civilians?

Did You mean the first Gulf war?

    Iraqi-American relations

On Wednesday July 25, 1990, the American Ambassador in Iraq, April Glaspie, asked the Iraqi high command to explain the military preparations in progress, including the massing of Iraqi troops near the border. The American ambassador declared to her Iraqi interlocutor that Washington, “inspired by the friendship and not by confrontation, does not have an opinion” on the disagreement which opposes Kuwait to Iraq, stating “we have no opinion on the Arab-Arab conflicts“. She also let Saddam Hussein know that the U.S. did not intend “to start an economic war against Iraq”. These statements may have misled Saddam into believing he had received a diplomatic green light from the United States to invade Kuwait (New York Times, September 23, 1990).
    Wikipedia
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_of_Kuwait

I don’t know about any negotiations before the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, as there was nothing Hussein could have done to prevent it. It was a done deal, instigated by the military industrial complex and their neocon supporters under the leadership of our present administration.
All that doesn’t matter anyways, because the American public loves its military and once deployed needs to be supported no matter how illegal any such military operation might be.
As long as there is such beloved militarism, there will never be peace again. Like the ‘war on terror forever’. Rightwing/neocon equals fascist. When will we have military parades in Washington, like in the good old days of Soviet Empire? With all those shiny missiles and tanks and soldiers marching? Maybe this 4th of July?

  22. TerrytheTurtle says:

Well no I was talking about 2003 – but talking about April Glaspie and Jim Baker’s “green light” is absolutely relevant.

    aw, shucks, it’s just a Historical Document….

“I believe it was: Osama Bin Laden determined to strike within the US”

  30. veritas says:

With each passing day, this administration is caught “red handed” with their lying faces in the cookie jar of corruption! It’s all beginning to point to the men at the top – Bush & Cheney, isn’t it?

They’ve gotten themselves embroiled in such a web of lies and deceit that their little white house of cards is coming tumbling down – day by day.

It’s time to Impeach these chimps masquerading as democratic officeholders.

  31. veritas says:

And, of course, CondiCandi – let’s not forget her complicity in all of this! We need to sweep these charlatans from office.

  32. buzzbomb says:

What do the members of this administration do all day? For some reason they can’t “recall” an f’n thing they’ve ever done.

  36. Seixon says:

Where’s the heading and margins of the “fax”? Why, there’s nothing on it to prove where it came from, who it was sent to, or who it was sent from. Such pesky details don’t seem to matter to Think Progress.
