Eason Jordan rips anonymous Iran intel presentation.

“Why are US officials hiding behind the cloak of anonymity when presenting the most detailed evidence yet that Iran is supplying weaponry to anti-US forces in Iraq?” IraqSlogger.com’s Eason Jordan asks. “After weeks, if not months, of US official planning to present a damning ‘dossier’ of incriminating evidence against Iran, and after this same US administration presented us with lopsided, erroneous information about the capability and evil intentions of the Saddam Hussein regime, the best the US government can give us today is incendiary evidence presented at a Baghdad news conference by three US officials who refuse to be quoted by name? That’s disgraceful and unacceptable.”

After 6 long years how can you expect the Bushies to behave any differently? Of course they are anonymous. If they were on the record they would be liable for all sorts of acusations once its found out that Iran’s non-existent nuclear program is non-existent. I recently saw a bumpersticker that read “Iraq is Arabic for Vietnam.” Soon that will be changed to “Iran is Arabic for Iraq.” Only 709 more days until the disgrace in the White House is sent on a one-way trip back to Crawford, never to darken the world scene again. Cross your fingers that our nation can last that long.

To do less, then we are indeed a nation of sheep and deserve whatever shit comes down.

Naturally the common people don’t want war; neither in Russia, nor in England,

nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders

of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the

people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament,

or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought

to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are

being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the

country to danger. It works the same in any country.

“At least one former White House official contends that some Bush advisers secretly want an excuse to attack Iran,” Michael Hirsh and Maziar Bahari report for Newsweek.

seixon- Are you really here to be unplugged? Did you really miss the 20-some MSM prints about the hype, coyness, promises, doctoring, delays…and now distance from our gov’s Iran ‘intel’ release? W is screwing over your right to important decisions. Be pissed.

    FYI:
Maura Reynolds writes in the Los Angeles Times: “Bush administration officials acknowledged Friday that they had yet to compile evidence strong enough to back up publicly their claims that Iran is fomenting violence against U.S. troops in Iraq.

“Administration officials have long complained that Iran was supplying Shiite Muslim militants with lethal explosives and other materiel used to kill U.S. military personnel. But despite several pledges to make the evidence public, the administration has twice postponed the release — most recently, a briefing by military officials scheduled for last Tuesday in Baghdad.

“‘The truth is, quite frankly, we thought the briefing overstated, and we sent it back to get it narrowed and focused on the facts,’ national security advisor Stephen J. Hadley said Friday.”

  39. ChildrenofLir says:

I doubt we can stop Bush. His cabal are intent on bombing. They’ve been paid by Saudi Arabia and the oil companies to do just that. That’s why we’re there in the first place. This has all been leading up to this attack. And after Iran, it’s on to Pakistan and then China. There will be no limits to all war, all the time. It’s the new FOX news show. All War All the Time.

  41. ChildrenofLir says:

What we can do is witness these crimes and then bring Bush and his cabal to the bar of justice.

  42. Pinko says:

Iran is not a threat to the U.S.. I do not believe the Bush Administration about anything. Bush lied to us once about Iraq and weapons of mass destruction. Now, Bush is lying to us about Iran and nuclear weapons and stating that Iran is now supplying the resistance in Iraq with sophisticated weapons.

Bush wants a war now with Iran. The U.S.S. Eisenhower is already in the Persian Gulf. Bush is doing the same thing with Iraq that Nixon has done with Vietnam. Bush wants to drag Syria and Iran into the conflict. This will cause more bloodshed and further de-stabilize the Middle East.

If Bush and Cheney was smart, they would end this senseless war and bring our troops home and stop all the inflammatory rhetoric against Iran.

If Bush’s behavior propels us down the road toward another unwarranted, illegitimate war in the middle East, any one of us who doesn’t go into the streets, marching and making noise, demanding to be heard BEFORE Bush&Co get us to the point of no return, is partly responsible.
We must stop this madness by the lying, sadistic, cold and calculating men of Bush&Co, their minions in politics and the news.
If they don’t stop it themselves, we will have to do it.

I like that,….. “being able to make judgements outside of the herd makes being human worthwhile..”
The down side is when we have rogue elements of humanity making decisions that affect the well being of “the herd” in a negative way.
    Example:
Current executive branch of the United States of America is making decisions which are uneccesarily killing human beings, enslaving human beings, and destroying the resources and natural systems which human beings require for life.

  45. Marie says:

If the trolls can’t stand the so-calaled “liberal bullshit” here, why don’t they go away? Their hatred will not change us and obviously points of fact won’t change them.

Asserting a right to self-defense, American forces in eastern Afghanistan have launched artillery rounds into Pakistan to strike Taliban fighters who attack remote U.S. outposts, the commander of U.S. forces in the region said Sunday.

  49. Pinko says:

To Children of Lir, I agree with your post on number 43 that Bush wants all war all the time.

Two or more years ago, Bush stated that “I am a President with war on my mind.”

Also, the Saudis had their people come over here and paid the CIA to train them to fly those airplanes into our buildings on 9/11. Bush does not want to say anything at all because he and his family are friends of the bin Ladens and friends of the Saudi Royal Family.

A true liberation movement like the PLO is not going to attack or kill innocent civilians on a large scale.

  50. Whitey HermAphrodite says:

#43 your most likely right, however, I think theres a small , very small but possible chance that if something can be done to get their own to start turning on them, it can be prevented. i guess we will see. lets face it.. they are going to have to use nukes to do what they really want to do to iran, and if so, its going to take alot more propanda than some anonymous press briefings to keep the american people from revolting. if people in positions of power start calling them out on thier BS as soon as it starts I believe something can be done. i would encourage everyone concerned to try and do something…

Question: If Michael Gordon is a voice activated tape recorder, what is James Glanz?

  58. Seixon says:

I asked a simple question: when did “US official planning to present a damning ‘dossier’ of incriminating evidence against Iran”?

It warrants a simple answer. The recent NIE stated that Iran was giving “lethal support” to Shiite militias in Iraq. This is what the Bush administration has been talking about. Are we once again pretending that the Bush administration is making shit up, while the intelligence agencies have said exactly what they’re saying?

NIE: “Iranians provide lethal support to Shiite militias”
Bush: “Iran is providing lethal support to Shiite militias”
    Liberals: “Bush is lying again!”

    Can anyone explain this phenomenon?

  59. Pinko says:

To Badger, however, it was meddling. The U.S. wanted Mossadegh out of power because he nationalized all the oil fields. Mossadegh had the support of a wide margin of the Iranian people. The U.S. wanted the Shah back in power so that the U.S. can control the oil fields.

The people of Iran in 1979 responded by overthrowing the Shah from power. The Iranian people no longer did not want their nation to be a client state of U.S. imperialism and do not want it today.

They may not all agree with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, but they will agree that they do not want Iran to be a U.S. puppet state or for Iran to be a client of U.S. imperialism.

The CIA also murdered resistance fighter Che Guevara in 1967 and staged a coup against democratically elected President Salvador Allende Gossens of Chile in September 11, 1973 and installed Augusto Pinochet, a brutal dictator, to power.

  72. Raven says:

On this whole issue of who’s guns and bombs and weapons are being used to kill whom….
I’m very certain that the percentage of American, Russian, Israeli, Syrian and who knows else weaponry is considerably greater than what is coming into Iraq from Iran.
Iraq has become a black hole for anyone who has arms and ammo to sell, to make a fast buck and kill more people so they can manufacture and sell more wepons.
    Iraq is awash with weapons.
When the US invaded Iraq, by the time the military got to Bagdhad, the Iraqi army had melted into the palm trees, taking their weaponry with them.
What weapons they had to surrender, they re-aquired shortly after the US military relaxed it’s (inadequate in the first place)guard and left the doors to the ammo dumps unguarded.
I’ll bet the insurgency is still using some of the 7 tons of plastic explosives snatched from under the noses of American military in just one of these events.
What does it take for one bomb, huh?
A pound, two at the most?
Oh, and for goodness sake, don’t forget all those pallets of shrink wrapped $100 dolar bills… cripes, they were already bundled for shipment off to the nearest smuggler on any of Iraq’s borders…….

  73. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

NIE: “Iranians provide lethal support to Shiite militias”
Bush: “Iran is providing lethal support to Shiite militias”

I don’t see how these are different.

During the first phase of the current Iraq War, our troops were so busy searching for weapons of Mass Destuction, that they drove pasts warehouses full of Weapons of slightly less than Mass Destruction. These munitions were subsequently looted and found their way into Car and Truck Bombs. And why didn’t they just blow these warehouses up? Because they didn’t have time to search them, and were afraid there were chemical weapons inside , which might be released in an explosion. Lethal Incompetence in the war planning!!

Can you please clarify what you are saying PLC?

    Comment by SGT Slouch

Seixon #61 tried to make the NIE report support the Bush administration’s position regarding Iran. The Bush administration has been fond of saying that terrorists have been congregating “over there” in Iraq, so it would be logical to suggest that some of those foreign born insurgents are from Iran. However, I am pointing out that individual Iranians operating in Iraq are not necessarily doing so as official agents of the Iranian government (although they could be). Therefore, U.S. policy toward Iran as a whole and toward its government should not be dictated by these individual Iranians’ actions unless there is concrete proof that they are supported by the Iranian government.

Right I think what Seixwankoff is trying to say is that we should attack every country who has citizens in Iraq who are providing material support to the insurgents. So we need to get to Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt very soon on the “to bomb” list.

Also, Seixxon doesnt think things like supporting right wing central american death squads is terrorist activity. Its ok to take people out of their homes in the middle of the night and kill them, as long as the people doing the killing are doing so at the behest of OUR side.

    PLC,

Bush stated the same thing as the NIE did. That’s all I’m saying. And yes, if they intend to show that the Iranian government is involved in Iraq, then they have to show evidence of this. It is no doubt possible that Iranians are helping militias in Iraq without government backing, but then there’s the little problem with who Iran lets cross their border with Iraq…

What is a bit disturbing to me is the way in which people at this site seemingly disbelieve the possibility of the Iranian government being involved in Iraq. It seems like all of you have already decided ahead of time that the Iranians are not doing this. Why not wait and let the facts speak for themselves before making up your mind?

    SGT Slouch,

The possibility of the Iranian government aiding insurgents in Iraq has already been erased from their minds, because it simply cannot be possible to them. You can’t blame them, really. They’re just following the programming they get at Think Progress.

    Whitey,

Stop putting words in my mouth, thanks.

    #71 – Seixon,
Here is a direct lift from the SOTUA in 2002:
“Our second goal is to prevent regimes that sponsor terror from threatening America or our friends and allies with weapons of mass destruction.

Some of these regimes have been pretty quiet since September 11, but we know their true nature. North Korea is a regime arming with missiles and weapons of mass destruction, while starving its citizens.

Iran aggressively pursues these weapons and exports terror, while an unelected few repress the Iranian people’s hope for freedom.

Iraq continues to flaunt its hostility toward America and to support terror. The Iraqi regime has plotted to develop anthrax and nerve gas and nuclear weapons for over a decade. This is a regime that has already used poison gas to murder thousands of its own citizens, leaving the bodies of mothers huddled over their dead children. This is a regime that agreed to international inspections then kicked out the inspectors. This is a regime that has something to hide from the civilized world.

States like these, and their terrorist allies, constitute an axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world. By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger. They could provide these arms to terrorists, giving them the means to match their hatred. They could attack our allies or attempt to blackmail the United States. In any of these cases, the price of indifference would be catastrophic.”

We will work closely with our coalition to deny terrorists and their state sponsors the materials, technology and expertise to make and deliver weapons of mass destruction.”

    conspiracy theory looking REAL?

Theories that the manufactured Iran ‘crisis’ is about oil and the dollar are seriously missing the point. It’s about world domination

‘In 1996, Richard Perle and Douglas Feith, two neo-conservatives later to play an important role in formulation of Bush administration’s Pentagon policy in the Middle East, authored a paper for then newly elected Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. That advisory paper, “A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm”, called on Netanyahu to make a “clean break from the peace process”. Perle and Feith also called on Netanyahu to strengthen Israel’s defenses against Syria and Iraq, and to go after Iran as the prop of Syria.

More than a year before President George W Bush declared his “shock and awe” operation against Iraq, he made his now-infamous January 2002 State of the Union address to Congress in which he labeled Iran, along with Iraq and North Korea, as a member of the “axis of evil” trio. This was well before anyone in Tehran was even considering establishing an oil bourse to trade oil in various currencies.’

I think it’s incredible that the 9/11 commission just accepted the cell phone call evidence without question. Now it’s come out that those calls were impossible in 2001. Unless, of course, they were actually made from the ground.

I wonder why none of the call logs were ever introduced into evidence? I mean, one call, they don’t know if it was from a cell, or one of those phones attached to the seats….And the call logs, they could even show which cell towers handled the calls…

    Comment by trueblue — February 12, 2007 @ 12:07 am

But, assuming for the moment that those who reported receiving said calls were telling the truth…the calls had to originate somewhere, and there would have been a record of each calls point of origin, or at least the cell towers which picked up the calls. Triangulation would have pinpointed the location of the cell phone if more than two towers at a time registered the call.

As for Iran, the rhetoric and accusations are coming pretty fast now. The attact is likely less than a month away.

  170. Briseadh na Faire says:

    Here’s a fine twist:

Senior U.S. military officials in Baghdad said the display was prompted by the military’s concern for “force protection,” which, they said, was guaranteed under the United Nations resolution that authorizes American soldiers to be in Iraq.

Could one of the trolls, Hacker bob, or Seixon, or Hendler please find the United Nations Resolution that specifically authorized American Soldiers to be in Iraq? I ask you three, because you all so consistently support Bush’s War, such a resolution would seem to support your cause. I didn’t know such a resolution existed, other than in Bush’s imagination.

  171. Briseadh na Faire says:

    In other news:

Sen. John McCain blasted a report in the Washington Post that said the Arizona Republican, who has campaigned against the use of “soft money,” is using just those kinds of funds to support his GOP presidential nomination.

McCain told CNN the article is “worst hit job that has ever been done in my entire political career.”

According to the story published on Sunday, campaign and IRS records show several of McCain’s finance co-chairmen “have given or raised large donations for political parties or 527 groups.”

    Very funny. ROTFLMAO!!!!
It’s time to start our own blog where free speech is not
    limited to the convenient propaganda.
Credit card checked identity. That will keep the trolls at bay.

Where there is a will there is a way. I already have the answer for that one. I have several programs that I have written that handle credit card registration.

    Very simple to get around.

  179. Pastor Foster says:

I have a few legitimate questions I would like an honest answer to from the posters here at Thin Progress.

    Here goes.

Why dont you folks leave the government up to the professional government?

Why dont you folks leave the military up to the professional military?

What do you folks strive for?
    What do you strive against?

    What is the goal here?
    Define the goal?

Define US politics today in detail.
Define US geo-politics & policies today in detail.

    What is an enemy?
    Who is the enemy?

Why are there enemies of the US?
Why are there allies of the US?
Who is an ally of the US?
    Why are they an ally.

    What is Christianity?
    Why is there Christianity?
    Who are these Christians?

    What are Jews?
Why is there the Jewish faith?
    Who are these Jews?

Why does mankind have a common bond?
Does mankind even have a common bond?
    What is that bond?

The answers to all of these questions and many more are available in the best-selling book of ALL TIME!

    The Bible.

Scully Dully, Vince P, Michael and the trolls are Israelis. All in the Israel counter-propagande payroll. The Israeli government recruited about 5000 of its citizens to argue incessantly on any online blog; defending Israel at all cost, and making anybody who attacks Israel to appear like an dum dum.
These same ingrates whose country was built on the American tax-payer money, and who has been sustaining on our tax-payer grants and free aid life machine are the same worms who steal our top secrets, and re-sell it to our enemies, infiltrate us, cause alot of confusion. And thanks to them, we have sept 11 which they’d have averted if they’d raised the alarm, but because, the war would define their NEW MIDDLE EAST, they blow its embers into bigger furnace.

Vince and his stoolies are just the same pack of loud-mouth who lured us into attacking Iraq. Who informed us that the Iraqis wanted our bombs and tanks on their land. The same people caused the death of over 600,000 iraqis, and more than 3000 death of us Armies, with some 30,000+ majorly wounded, or disabled for the rest of their life. Now, they are demanding for more. With Bush, making thousands of our boys, sitting ducks, not caring the least for their lives, for Israeli missles, or bombs that would be entirely blamed on Iran.

So long the entire country is so afraid of the almight Jewish lobby and doesn’t ask the necessary question about the great threat Israeli pose to the US and the entire world, we’d be pushed around like cowards like Vince and no brain Skully.

  181. Richard says:

The pictures of the ammunition in question showed a 81 mm mortar round imprinted in English. How would the common Iran soldier, speaking and mabey reading Farsi, discern between HE and any other warhead writen in English. I may be wrong but when in Vietnam, captured Russian ordinance was identified in Russian. while Chinese ordinance was in Chinese.

  182. criticalthinker says:

American soldiers in Iraq have been killed with American waepons so the Americam government must be to blame, right?

    When do we bomb ourselves?

The Iranian government can secure their border and stop all smuggling if they wanted to, right?

We can teach them the our sucessful techniques for stopping border smuggling, since no people, drugs, or weapons ever get smuggled into our country!

  183. freebird9 says:

why can’t TP just ban the trolls like this rachel/scully who just bombard the thread with nonsense? The name changes are not daily but by the minute. This is ridiculous. I had heard about the blogs being inundated with Isrealis as well. It must be true. Or Rove is working overtime getting these nutjobs to protect AIPAC and AEI and their “works” and “thoughts” and everything else they’ve been WRONG on for the last few years. THEY HAVE BEEN WRONG ON EVERYTHING. You’d think rachel/scully could actually see that. hahahaha, what a joke these trolls are. TP flush them down the toilet where they belong, please.

  184. DallasNE says:

Bottom line, the power-point presentation was about as convincing as Colin Powell going before the UN. Like Powell’s presentation, this presentation failed the smell test.

Are Iranian weapons making there way into Iraq. That is a clear possibility. But that does not make a case that there is a direct transfer from Iran to Sunni insurgents. In fact, that is improbable.

Hezbollah, in their recent war in southern Lebanon was able to destroy several Israeli tanks. It would be far more likely that some of these weapons are filtering back through Syria and into Iraq where the Sunni insurgents then target American vehicles.

Lastly, the markings on the weapons themselves are coming under question. Why would Iran mark their weapons in English and display dates in a different format than is normal for Iran. This just doesn’t pass the smell test.
