Cheney won’t testify.

By Faiz Shakir on Feb 13th, 2007 at 2:45 pm

Cheney won’t testify.

Reversing course, attorneys for former White House aide Scooter Libby say they no longer plan to call Vice President Dick Cheney to testify in the CIA leak trial. The AP reports, “Defense attorney Theodore Wells said he advised Cheney’s lawyer over lunch that his testimony would not be needed. Wells also said he planned to rest his case without calling Libby.”

I said it a long time ago, the Shooter ain’t gonna go to court.

  2. dlet says:

Surprise, surprise. Darth Cheney just Force choked and sent one lawyer into the airlock and they all backed down.

  3. Doktor Texas says:

Loyalty. Honor. Commitment. Real good freind ya got ther Mr. Libby. Remember that when your cell mate says you have a pretty mouth.

  4. veritas says:

The people need to call for his immediate resignation. Clearly, this thug believes that he is above the law. What a swine.

  5. SKdeA says:

So can the prosecution call him as a witness?

  6. veritas says:

Perhaps this is not the venue for his dismissal then….perhaps the Congress needs to open a new investigation and indictment for what we’ve learned concerning the intense & intimate involvement of this Veep and this act of “treason”.

  7. Raven says:

Theodore got that special call in the middle of the night………….

  8. veritas says:

#5 Hopefully – and that might clearly be the plan.

  9. wake-n-bake says:

Damn jedi mind tricks work every time!

  10. veritas says:

I should think that with the new information regarding his intimate and concerted involvement in the Plame affair, they have reason to all him to the stand.

  11. s says:

I think Cheny does not want to appear before any courts right now. It might set a precedent. What has come out of this trial ist that Cheny is guilty as sin. I see him not testifiying as a sign of weakness and fear. We’re backing him into a corner.

  12. Raven says:

There’s a good possibility that Deadeye is circling his wagons….Scooter will go down like the pawn he is, screaming and kicking, and singing like a canary.
Watch for a new grand jury to be empaneled.
Fitzgerald has done his job well, and I believe has prepared the ground work for a case that will send Dickee on a self renditioned tour of another continent.
This is wise, by removing the criminal from behind the throne, George Dubious will be left standing alone, and revealed for the incompetent boob that he is.
Soon enough we’ll see him crying on the House floor………

  13. Exley says:

    SKdeA,

The prosecution has already rested their case in chief. Cheney could only be called by the prosecution after the defense rests and the questions posed to him would be limited to trying to refute or rebut something that a defense witness has said.

  14. Krazny says:

Cheney isn’t going to go under oath if he can avoid it, then he might have to commit perjury, and since perjury is an impeachable offense…

This idiot has never had to answer for anything in his charmed life. If there was ever any true justice, Darth Cheney would have his nuts ripped off with a plastic fork while being waterboarded…

  19. Innocent Bystander says:

Damn, I was hoping to see Dick have a “I’d take the 5th” moment. Or maybe go off and shoot someone in the face. What a ringing endorsement for Scooter…..Dick Cheney: Profile in Courage

  20. dlet says:

I my mind the prosecution didn’t need Dick to be questioned to make their case in the perjury trial and in that case they didn’t want to risk there being a fight about a sitting VP being called as a witness and have that be dragged out. Fitz is and will hopefully continue to fight his battles when and where necessary. This perjury trial revealed a lot and more should happen…..at a trial’s pace of course.

  22. veritas says:

Darth is in the corner now and he’s as guilty as in in the treasonous outing of a covert CIA operative and now the people have evidence of his involvement. A new grand jury will be convened by treason against Cheney. Scooter’s perjury charge will stand and he will be convicted by his own testimony. The only thing Tricky Dickhead could do, as a man with integrity (but we already know that he has none) would be to fess up that he was the “mastermind” behind the entire scheme and ordered his employee (underling) to do his dirtywork. And, just like a hired hitman….who goes down for his crime, the one employing him ALSO IS GUILTY and goes straight to jail. Dickhead knows this and there’s enough testimony out there to indict him. But this is Scooter’s perjury trial and not Dickhead’s Treason trial – stay tuned for that coming to your television screens soon. If Fitz does his job (and I have every reason to believe that he will especially now that he’s been ousted from the WH without explanation) the next grand jury will convene in the treason trial of Dick Cheney. Then watch Dicky cry his fool eyes out and watch Dubya dump in his drawers! Can’t wait….RFT&S (rubbing fingers together & salivating).

  23. veritas says:

I think I hear Dickhead’s heart racing….he’s running for cover….either that or a fatal heart attack this time. His time is running out and he’s overdue for it.

    So this is Dick’s….sixth deferment?

  25. Raven says:

    Off topic, perhaps only slightly…
On the BBC site, you can see the portrait of the new top Iraqi commander, Lt. Gen. Gambar, as he gets ready to extend the curfew in Bagdhad, and close the borders with Iran and Syria.
Now does that look like the future supreme leader of Iraq, or what?
All Chainee needs to do is send the Ohio republican party over there with some Diebold machines, get him elected, and voila!
    G.Dubious gets his democratic Iraq!

  26. veritas says:

The Defense rested without calling Cheney because they know that he will perjure himself in his testimony. These guys actually have lied so much that they’ve lost total sight of the truth, what they said to whom, and when. That’s the folly of the pathological liar.

When any Defense “rests” without calling their people to the stand, it’s as good as an overt admission of guilt. Hope Scooter looks good in orange jumpsuits. I do feel sorry for his 4 kids that they were spawned by a power-hungry, demented, sycophant who traded his soul to the devil and ended up in prison for a very long time.

    FOX News Alert!

Barack Obama may be the father of Anna Nicole’s baby

FOX News has learned from anonymous sources within the FBI that agents are currently following up leads that implicate Senator Barack Obama as being the father of Anna Nicole’s daughter, Daniellyn.

Sources say that preliminary tests have indicated that both Senator Obama and Daniellyn have DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), a fact that just cannot be overlooked. A senior official within the FBI who asked not to be named because of the ongoing nature of the investigation told us: “Clearly this evidence is troubling and it is impossible to ignore the heinousness of its nature.”

FOX News special friend Glenn Beck went further with his analysis – “When I look at Obama, I see white. When I look at Daniellyn, I see white. It is not a difficult logical step to associate those two startling revelations. Some will call for DNA tests, others will want to see the NSA bedroom video captures. Myself, I don’t need any fancy “scientists” to tell me what I can see with my own eyes.”

Mr. Beck has promised FOX News that he will update us on his opinions as they evolve and develop.

Joe Wilson should be called to testify. Why is he the only person in the world who thinks he was on a secret mission from Cheney??

On the off chance Democrats do get the White House back in 2008, I will remember this case when we assault the rights of YOUR President. You people are disgusting.

Only Congress can indict (impeachment) a sitting vice-president.

Wait a minute. I just found this:

“Precedent exists to indict a Vice President.

Vice President Aaron Burr was subject to indictments in two states while still in office. Burr stayed out of those two states to avoid prosecution.”

  33. Shawn says:

    I love conspiracies.

My new one: A pardon is already in order. Why else would Wells and the other defense lawyers keep bringing journalists up to say that Libby never told them about Plame? The issue in this trial isn’t the disclosure but his lies to the Grand Jury.

With any grace at all, neither the radical-left nor radical-right will get their wishes.
I instead we will have the will of the majority enabled. Which generally tends to be a moderate view.
And, oh, Presidents don’t have any more “rights” than any other citizen.
They may have a few more privileges allowed, that they may fulfill their responsibilities as public servants to the people.
And, by the way, LHT, the moment you preface a statement with “you people”, you betray your sociopathy……….
    (aww, don’t mention it….)

Yes, when an administrative official publicly outs a CIA operative agent because of political criticism, and there’s an investigation, that, of course is a witch hunt.
When a president gets a lil hummer from a flirtatious intern, and then decries on record as saying “I did not have sexual relations with that woman” (sexual relation defined as penetration per Paula Jones case), well by gawd, we need to waste millions upon millions of taxpayers dollars for an impeachment hearing!
    Nope, nothing hypocritcal there!

Why is he the only person in the world who thinks he was on a secret mission from Cheney??
Wow, and to think this was about Valerie Plame and the CIA (her undercover mission) being outed as political punishment

On the off chance Democrats do get the White House back in 2008, I will remember this case when we assault the rights of YOUR President. You people are disgusting.

On the great chance that a Democratic candidate gets elected to the White House in 2008, I will disgustingly remember how George Dubya assaulted all our rights as citizens since 9/11, and nothing was done!!!
You really have no basis for arguments, do ya, little one?
    Tell Rush I said “hi”

Well, I guess when the neo-cons sold out the Republican values for big-government, anti-Constitution, pro-corporations, anti-civil-rights stances, they gave up their souls as well.

Only someone who hates America can support neo-con postions

I would ask how Scooter Libbys perjury trial is an assault on the presidents rights but what’s the use. Your a liar and a fool.

I did find an error in your sentence:

There is still a possibility that Scooter cuts a deal for some testimony in another trial. If it happens, I would expect it to come just before the case goes to the jury.

Also, there is still a civil case. The Wilsons have a lot of interesting and potentially valuable information that may be used as evidence in a civil trial.

And, even a sitting President or Vice President can be compelled to testify in a civil trial.

  66. beefeater says:

I don’t understand the anger at Cheney. He was listed as a DEFENSE WITNESS! The defense decided not to call Him, not Fitz. Cheney had no call in the matter.

  67. Parrotlover77 says:

More likely Cheney told them he won’t testify after hearing how it’s going, and they are working around that.

Take one for the team, Libby. Take one for the team.

Too bad it won’t work. I look forward to future Fitzgerald prosecutions of these criminals…
