An unhappy Valentine’s Day in Baghdad.

“Inflation may have driven up the price of a bunch of red roses to $30 dollars in Baghdad, but it’s the failure of Operation Strike Fear — the city’s obligatory marketplace bombings have already claimed about 100 lives this week — that is really dampening the spirit of Valentine’s Day for Baghdad residents.” The owner of one Baghdad boutique noted, “Even last year customers would brave the streets. Now they are not coming out.”

Maybe if those iraqis celebrate this day in the fabulous new american embassy…

Why? What’s wrong with life in Bagdad. Did someone make it unpleasant for people?

    More neocon stupidity

What do Bush and Cheney see when they look at Iraq? I still have a hard time believing guys like this who have no conscience or soul give a damn about anything but their own money and power. If they really cared about Iraq you would think they would try a bit harder, wouldn’t you? Since Bush’s legacy is Iraq, one might naturally think he would have depended on more than Bremer and Rumsfeld to make things work.

In Baghdad, freedom smells like death.

  6. Anonymous By Choice says:

Who are the flowers being bought for? Aren’t most of the women dead? A lot of the men are dead for that matter… so who’s actually buying the roses?

Can we save the flowers at least?

And I thought valentines day was something just celebrated by Americans. I mean, why do Iraqi’s have any interest in a holiday where you show your love for your woman? I thought Iraqi’s were all about persecuting them. Hmm….

  7. GSD says:

Iraq was once the most educated and Westernized nation in the middle east.

Then Chimpy invaded and killed the middle class, now it is the poor and the fanatics who are left.

Hoory Chimpy, a failure just like your dad.

Don’t tell him I made fun of you, I don’t want Poppy to break down and blubber like a third grader again.

Do Iraqis really celebrate St. Valentine’s Day?

The nerve of these people! What in Allah’s name are they complaining about? Don’t they understand that “sometimes…money trumps peace”??

The “Iranian” 81MM Mortar Web Page Is a Fake

    http://www.iramig.ir/Products/Mortar%20Bombs.htm

This web page is being waved around to “prove” that Iran does make 81mm mortar rounds like the one the US Government is trying to use to justify an invasion of Iran. Take a good look at the soldiers and weapons at the very top of the page. They look Iranian to you? And why does an Iranian company put together a web page where their own country is obscured from view on that world map?

Check the spelling on the tabs. “Miscellancous”? “Caliber” uses the American spelling, rather than “Calibre.” And Tehran is spelled “Tahran” on the contact page. This web page was assembled in a rush. Take a look at the page source in your browser. The images and directories on the server are all in ENGLISH.

The phone numbers on the contact page are all 7 digit numbers. But in July of 2005, Iran switched over to an 8-digit phone system. And finally, the traceroute traces the IP not to a business, but to a university!

Here we go again. The Neocons are using the same methods that they did for Iraq. And I’ll be that many fall for it just like then.

    priceless…

Trying again, last post got lost:

Q A lot of our allies in Europe do a lot of business with Iran, so I wonder what your thoughts are about how you further tighten the financial pressure on Iran, in particular, if it also means economic pain for a lot of our allies?

THE PRESIDENT: It’s an interesting question. One of the problems — not specifically on this issue, just in general — let’s put it this way, money trumps peace, sometimes. In other words, commercial interests are very powerful interests throughout the world. And part of the issue in convincing people to put sanctions on a specific country is to convince them that it’s in the world’s interest that they forgo their own financial interest.

  17. Mr. Evil says:

Oh it’s a beautiful Valentine’s Day in Baghdad and romance is in the air! Along with acrid smoke, the smell of burning and rotting human flesh, daily destruction of homes and buildings, kidnappings, murders, rapes, torture and not to mention theft on the grandest scale never before seen by anyone.

    Love, George Bush style.

  18. Jay Randal says:

Pres. Bush is solely responsible for turning Iraq into a cesspool of violence and a living horrible Hell too!

  19. big papa says:

May god help and bless the people of Iraq…

    …and punish their oppressors…
