Bush refuses to say whether he’ll pardon Libby.»

At his press conference today, President Bush refused — four times — to discuss any aspect of Scooter Libby’s trial, including whether he would consider pardoning Libby if he is convicted. Watch it:

Transcript:

QUESTION: Sir, we’ve now learned through sworn testimony that at least three members of your administration other than Scooter Libby leaked Valerie Plame’s identity to the media. None of these three is known to be under investigation. Without commenting on the Libby trial, then, can you tell us whether you authorized any of these three to do that or –

BUSH: I’m not going to talk…

QUESTION: … whether they were authorized without your permission?

BUSH: Yes, thanks. I’m not going to talk about any of it.

QUESTION: They’re not under investigation, though, sir.

BUSH: Peter, I’m not going to talk about any of it.

QUESTION: How about pardon, sir? Many people were asking whether you might pardon somebody…

BUSH: I’m not going to talk about it, Peter.

    Yup he will, hell yes.

  2. ForTruth Says:

Can we play back the video of Bush saying any member of his administration who leaked the name would no longer be in this administration? Can we ask him to fire the people who have been shown to be leakers?

  3. tom baker Says:

Al Qaeda group calls for attacks on U.S. oil
    POSTED: 11:17 a.m. EST, February 14, 2007
Story Highlights• Saudi wing of al Qaeda has called for attacks targeting U.S. oil
    • The threat appeared in e-magazine
    • Group was behind failed suicide attack on world’s largest oil processing plant

DUBAI (Reuters) — A Saudi wing of al Qaeda called for attacks on U.S. oil sources across the world, saying targets should not be limited to the Middle East and listing Canada, Venezuela and Mexico as U.S. oil suppliers

Here we go. Ratchet that bad boy up. Why do we let Saudi’s attack us and not do anything about it?

  6. VerbalKint Says:

When I read last night that neither Libby nor Cheney would be called to the stand, my immediate thought was that the legal team has conceded defeat and that a pardon is imminent. I wouldn’t be surprised if a pardon is announced at the end of closing arguments.

  7. james k. sayre Says:

Libby is just one small potato in the Bush crime family sack of rotten, blackened potatoes…

Pardon me, boy, is that the cat that chewed your new shoes? The Republic Party of Treason and Treason-coverups has been looking the other way when it comes to investigating 9-11 treason for the last five years…

Why do you think that Bush acted so goofy in that elementary school classroom on 9-11? Because he just had learned that Cheney and Rumsfeld had done their dirty deed and had let the hijacked jets be used as weapons and thus comitted high treason, and so implicated Bush in their scheme…

It is very interesting that Cheney held top-secret training exercises with NORAD (our air defense interceptor jets) on 9-9 and 9-10 to stop the use of hijacked jets from being used as weapons, and yet on that fateful day, Cheney, Rumsfeld, the FAA and NORAD just couldn’t quite do their jobs…

  8. rachel Says:

Oh, so NOW Bush is finally worried about the ” letter of the law ” but only if it suits HIM!

Hey Shrub, you think this is bad?
Just wait; the clock is ticking…tick tock, tick tock.

Personally, I’d like to see you locked in a room with Helen Thomas.
You wouldn’t have to talk at all; she’ll do it for you.

  13. Dogjudge Says:

I’d say that even George W. Bush wouldn’t be that stupid, but on further reflection, yeah he could be.

  14. CoffinsDrapedWithFlags Says:

So, do you think Bush was wetting his adult diaper during that question?

I was going to recommend another name if that’s not THE rachel.

What happened to “any member of this administration involved in the leak wouldn’t work here anymore.” Now we know it was at least 3.

Whoa, what the hell was I thinking, Bush keeping his word. HAAHAHHAHAHAHA!

  17. Raven Says:

Remember that little square bump on Dubious’ back during his debate with John Kerry?
It was probably jolting him pretty good during the question about Libby and Co.
I can see both Dick and Karl behind that gold drapery, furiously stabbing at their control boxes…….
Do you think they’ve installed an “invisible fence” around the White House yet?

Why do you equate my comment with either a left or right slant and swing?

COMMON people, whatever their stripe are SICK of this Presidents SHIT!

It is people like yourself who are playing part and parcel to the bitter divide and divisiveness in this country.

My comment says what it means. If you, however, would like to embellish my comment with right or left bias, that is your business.
And your right and priveledge. It doesnt necessarily make you right.

I stated a fact. You on the other hand have embellished it with your opinion. Big difference there and a lesson for you to be learned there.

But will you learn? I have faith you will.

    Please stay on topic.

  24. veritas Says:

Sure he will because this scandal goes right to the top and he’s involved himself. What a chickhawk! That’s precisely why he reversed the constitution and has written more signing statements than all the presidents in the history of this country COMBINED! He’s a con and he’s slimey about it.

  25. ForTruth Says:

    Rachel,

I tend to go around and say there is no difference between Dems and Repubs.

If anyone is playing part and parcel to the divide sweety, well, do I have to put up all your past posts?

  26. ForTruth Says:

you just know that f*ckwad will pardon Libbey, just as he will attack Iran.

  29. CoffinsDrapedWithFlags Says:

Well, Bush may pardon Libby, but will he pardon Cheney?

  30. veritas Says:

Someone needs to review the video archives and play this one for the liar…..when he said that anyone involved in leaking (treason), etc. would immediately be fired from his administration. Play that one in his snoot along with the one in which he emphasized that “if and when our troops find themselves in the middle of a Civil War, they will be brought home from harm’s way immediately”. This man has zippo credibility as he is caught in one lie after another.

How can we have an admitted (known) liar in the WH and maintain any shred of credibility as a country??

  31. veritas Says:

Who’s going to pardon Bush when he is indicted?

  32. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) Says:

Bush: “I’m not going to talk about an on-going incrimination.”

veritas; don’t you know? the chimp-in-chief will pardon himself.

  34. jak fulasofy Says:

what bothered me the most is the giggles from the elite press corps at bush’s patronizing refusal to answer…thank god for sites like think progress that have the democratic vigor to demand honest answers from our elected officials

  35. marcus robinson Says:

Does anyone know where I can find the video clip of Bush sr. slapping Hatchers ass??

  36. Liberals Heart Terrorists Says:

GOOD. If, by chance, he is convicted, he will be pardoned. AND if pardons become an issue in the 2008 race, we’ll point out Clinton’s pardoning of the FALN (whatever he did in 99) and of course, Hillary’s brother’s conflict of interest.

On scandal, it’s always about the Clintons - lol!

Ah, the double standard of the Clinton Derangement Syndrome.

Accuse a Clinton of a crime that didn’t happen, while applauding and calling for the pardon of a man and his president that both committed treason. You are a natural born Terrorist, and I can tell you this is one Liberal that doesn’t ‘Heart’ you! Conservatives are naturally violent, and unstable terrorists - and that’s why Osama and the rest of the Islamist terrorists were YOUR BOYS, for years.

  38. Raymond Funamoto Says:

CHIMPya will pardon Scooter Libby only if Scooter is convicted and faces prison…Bush doesn’t want Libby cutting a deal that will implicate Torticola Cheney, CHIMPya, and other members of Bushland Uber Allies. “Us Good Nazis Must Stick Together”–Ya?

  39. joneden Says:

I hope Bush does pardon Libby. It will just make apparent to everyone how reprehensible this crew (a mafia term) is.

  40. Bluestocking Says:

Actually, if you read the transcript, it becomes clear that Bush did not refuse four times to address the question of a possible pardon for Libby — he refused three times to address the issue of the other staff members involved in the Plame affair and refused once to address the question of Libby’s pardon. I personally find his refusal to discuss Fleischer and the other staff members more interesting than his refusal to discuss Libby. I think everyone realizes that Libby’s pardon is virtually a foregone conclusion — but the blunt way in which Bush phrased his refusal to discuss the other staff members makes me think he’s been strongly advised by a legal team not to say anything at all on that issue. At least to my recollection, Bush usually isn’t quite that abrupt when a reporter broaches a subject that he doesn’t want to discuss — if he wants to evade a specific question, he usually responds with a rather abstract or theoretical remark.

  41. "Dick" Nixon Says:

    Pardon me?
(Lot of background radiation out here, can’t make out what you’re saying….
What?…. oh, say hi to that cute chubby little fellow from Wyoming will you?
You know, the one with the same first name as me……
What?…. No, no, no, how many times do I have to tell you, I am not a crook.)

  42. An American Says:

When are we going to stop asking Bush questions and just lock him up on the mountains of evidence already gathered?

If this were a working man acting like he has then he would have been in prison a long time ago. Why do we let this Minority run the Majority?

This is insanity and it belittles every American when they have to beg their leader to tell the public the truth and whoever was laughing with the president that day is completely UNAMERICAN and has clearly chosen to side with this government over his or her own people.

Completely AntiAmerican for a President to ever treat the governed in this way.

Do not forget why our Government was formed. Our Government was made for the people to secure their rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Our Government has no power over the people without the consent of the people.

At the point when our Government becomes rebellious to these principles it is our civil duty to disband or abolish such Government.

Our Declaration of Independence specifically states that WE are the deciders and that WE make the decisions. It is WE THE PEOPLE who allow Government to exist and to exercise its power over the governed not through dictatorship, but through consent.

Our Declaration of Independence describes a Government for the PEOPLE and by the PEOPLE allowed to exist and derive powers through the consent of its people. It is a Government where ALL men are created equally.

I do not have to tell you that this is not the Government we have today. What we have today in our generation is a Government that Lies to the PEOPLE, deceives the PEOPLE, belittles the PEOPLE, controls the PEOPLE, dictates to the PEOPLE, takes from the PEOPLE, uses the PEOPLE, and ATTACKS the very PEOPLE who have allowed them to exist.

People, we need a Government BUT we do not need THIS Government. We have been lied to, we have been deceived, we have been belittled, we are controlled, we are at war because one man dictates this to us and forces it upon the majority, we have lost rights that have taken hundreds of years to secure, we the people have been used without our consent, and we have been attacked on our own soil by the people who swore before God to protect us.

We hold the future in our hands right now, every day, until our dying breath. We are told to fear one man so much to justify war and yet we have no confidence in ourselves as a people united. We don’t need congressmen or representatives to speak for us. We ARE the voice we ARE the people and we ARE the deciders here and now. We have the power inherited from our Fathers handed down through every generation even payed for in blood when needed to change or abolish our own Government when and if they become rebellious and destructive to its own people. The people have set up checks and balances in Government and when Government chooses to unite within itself or with Corporations or any other group foreign or domestic against the best interest of the American people then that in its self is a rebellious act a destructive decision that does not have to destroy America or the people, but instead the rebels within.

Sooner is better than later or will we wait for the day when we say to ourselves “what else do we have to lose?”

    -An American-
