This week, the Congressional Black Caucus will be meeting with President Bush for the first time in two years. Based on “what has happened in the past at these meetings,” members have doubts “that the session would yield any tangible results.” A new report in the National Law Journal shows that in nine of 11 southern states, Bush “has never nominated an African-American for any of 62 openings for federal trial court judgeships.”

More compassionate conservatism from the “deciderer”.
February 14th, 2007 at 9:57 amBut he has no problem having Alberto ‘Speedy’ Gonzales from displacing or forcing resignations from some of our best US Attorneys.
Let’s hope the CBC ask some real questions. I want to see him squirm and stutter.
Adding more ingredients to a bad recipe does not make it taste any better.
February 14th, 2007 at 10:04 amI hope Rangel tells him to go Cheney himself.

February 14th, 2007 at 10:10 amThat’s because George Bush doesn’t care about black people.
February 14th, 2007 at 10:11 amWOW!!! I imagine they will watch a screening of NORBIT, Bush will say he doesn’t get it. The CBC will ask about Gulf Coast rebuilding, healthcare for the poor and uninsured middle-class, minority representation in southern federal judgeships, etc; BUSH will still say he doesn’t get it. MEETING OVER, thank you very much.
HE is the DECIDER-Don’t hate him, feel sorry for the lackeys who support HIM.

February 14th, 2007 at 10:13 ami was going to say the same as comment #5 with no sarcasm
February 14th, 2007 at 10:13 amCBC especially Maxine Waters and Barbara Lee should grill Jessie Haywood aka Baby Bush about what he and his ilk did to Haiti – the destruction of democracy in Haiti just might be their greatest crime – Katrina / Haiti exhibts no. 1 and 2 re: their disdain for poor African descendents – George Bush isn’t a racist, true he doesn’t care about black people but he doesn’t care about white people either, he doesn’t care, period.
February 14th, 2007 at 10:53 amI think Kanye West said it best: “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.” Bush will pretend he does when he speaks to various groups or meets with the CBC, but his actions show where his heart truly is.
February 14th, 2007 at 10:55 amheart? what heart? that man aint got no heart! hes souless and cruel!
February 14th, 2007 at 11:08 amI can’t believe that there are those who actually believe that Bush doesn’t care about black people. You probably believe all of the other racial myths as well— that Chuches Fried Chicken puts salt peter in their food to make black men impotent, or that Gloria Vanderbilt and Tommy Hillfiger don’t want balck people wearing their clothes. These racist claims are unproven and absurd, as is the claim that Bush doesn’t care for black people. As for the federal trial court judgeships, race probably never entered into the equation. Bush probably made his nominations based on qualifications.
February 14th, 2007 at 11:18 am#11: No, I don’t believe in all those straw man beliefs you’re throwing out there. I do believe Bush doesn’t care about black people, which is easily demonstrated by his policies.
February 14th, 2007 at 11:22 am#11
February 14th, 2007 at 11:26 amwe can qualify the statement: George Bush doesn’t care about most people, including black people.

It took a little over an hour, but we have our winner!
February 14th, 2007 at 11:27 amBUSH’s heart is where his treasure is, namely with POWER and MONEY. So funny that so many of his supporters have neither. Maybe they feel he will use some of his to better our lives, THAT’s not going to happen. I hope they can see that by now. HAS anyone ever thought that if GORE had been president on 9/11/2001, the events of that day might never have happened?
Even if 9/11 happened maybe we would still be in Afganistan fighting terrorism but not Iraq, maybe we would have Osama because we would not have diverted resources to Iraq. Maybe we would have a plan for the southern border of the USA. Maybe the average American would have had a tax cut and maybe we would not have a huge deficit that we rely on the Chinese to help finance.
Maybe he would have been the strong leader we needed to reassure us the tenants of Democracy mean facing reality and remaining strong, but not at the expense of others.
Maybe he would have remained STRONG in his CHRISTIAN principals and folloed the message of CHRRIST. America could be living a new day of hope, not FEAR. Instead of US v. THEM, maybe it could be WE. ALAS, maybe I have said to much. Like EVA PERON on the balcony of the CASA ROSADA, there is nothing more that I can say to you, but, you must know every word IS true. BUSH is a MO-RON

If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it probably is a duck. The same principle applies here. Zero for 62 quacks like overt racism.
February 14th, 2007 at 11:57 amConsidering how nasty the caucus has been to Bush, bravo to him for being the bigger man. (Of course, that’s if you don’t count Stephanie Tubb-Jones or Barbara Lee).
February 14th, 2007 at 12:27 pmI do remember Bush nominating a brilliant African American woman to the DC circuit who was filibustered by Democrats for years.
Can’t have it both way hatemongers.
February 14th, 2007 at 12:28 pmIs Bush going to drive himself to the meeting in his Caterpiller tractor?
February 14th, 2007 at 12:49 pm#18- I think that was Denny Hastert, in black drag. I could tell that from the way he breathed so heavy and farted, as he took each step. Bush gave him a big hug, too.

Nice try, but I’m not any of those people you named. Go play your childish games somewhere else.
February 14th, 2007 at 1:45 pm#18 It would be nice not to need a CBC. As a black man I can tell you THEY are still needed. I don’t think BUSH is purposefully racist. I think he probaly is benign on that count. I bet he likes gays too, he has shown that in the past (Karl anybody?). It’s his supporters who are the problem, I wonder if they even realize he is not like them but he is their best choice when presented with the choices.
I bet a lot of blacks weren’t presented as candidates for federal judgeships in the south, many factors at play, not the least that most blk candidates in the south are probaly Dems, probaly centrist, probaly not a member of the local (good-ole-boy) network. That counts for a lot in the south, (ask Harold Ford). Yep, same as it ever was.
Thats why the CBC is needed, we still have deep seated, intitutional, personal and familial racism in this country, especially in the south.

February 14th, 2007 at 1:49 pm#23 – the only racism I see is a group of people singling themselves out as the CBC has and then viciously attacking the President because he won’t advance their already tested and failed agenda.
I wonder how you felt about Michael Steele having oreos thrown at him – by other blacks?!?!
February 14th, 2007 at 3:01 pmHis handlers will just have to make sure that CHIMPya doesn’t make another one of his famed verbal blunders, though it would serve him right if he did! Why would the CBC WANT TO HAVE HIM COME AND MEET WITH THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE? The only way I would like to see CHIMPya IS IN A COFFIN, HIS FACE MADE UP LIKE A PAINTED WHORE and A LILY BETWEEN THE CROSSED ARMS ON HIS CHEST!!!!!
February 14th, 2007 at 4:09 pm#24 I assume you are white, I hope you know the majority of what the CBC does is not in the news and out of the spotlight. I hope you know that the CBC while focusing on the status of blacks in this country, addresses issues that are of a concern not just to blacks.
Can you specify what the CBC agenda is for me? I want to check what you say against their activity and formal statements in congress. Also, what is racist about the CBC? I do not think they conduct an agenda (?) that is racist. Why would George Bush want to meet with them, well I guess he is a bigger man (idealogically) than most of his supporters (or his VP) and he figures it’s the right thing to do. “A house divided cannot stand…” another Republican coined that one.
Michael Steele did not deserve having Oreo’s thrown at him, (common decency) but uless you have walked in the shoes of some of those throwing , don’t pretend to have a slight understanding of where those folk are coming from. Being white and being a person of color in the USA is NOT the same. I get the feeling you don’t quite understand that.

This one is a myth and has already been debunked. It was a story the Washington Times cooked up -the same people who smeared Obama because of his supposed education in a Madrassa, and the ones who fabricated a Lincoln quote to bash war critics.
