Bush’s ‘gut-level bond’ is lost.
According to President Bush’s former pollster Matthew Dowd, Bush’s “gut-level bond” with the American people “may be lost,” and “wholesale change” is needed in Iraq. As Stephen Colbert informed us, President Bush makes his decisions “straight from the gut” because “that’s where the truth lies, right down here in the gut.”

This is extremely difficult for a brain-washed patriot to not only admit but to process into his psyche…..the association of self (ego) with the collective self (government) is so strong that it’s the “dark day of the soul” to admit the truth that the enemy is truly “within”.
February 15th, 2007 at 11:42 amThis country truly wants to believe in it’s altrusitic attributes – and the idea of hypocrisy doesn’t fit into that mindset very well…..at least initially until it becomes so obvious that even those archetypes who operate in the “denial mode” must accept the sad, hard truth of the reality of who we are. We’ve become a country of hypocrisy where money rules – I love the topic of Duby’s speech today “democracy in Iraq” – how he can be in such denial about our state of democracy and champion a democracy in Iraq – which is clearly in the “throes of a civil war” and certainly nothing close to resembling democracy.
Perhaps Dubya needs to retake “Democracy 101″??????????????????????????????????

…and I fear what will happen when they awaken from their slumber…
…but I realize that the ONLY way America/the world will recover from this horrible episode (the Bush years)…
…is for justice to be done…
…without it (justice, accountability) the notion of government, fraternal society, and core democratic principles…
…are lost…
…we must therefore weigh which is greater…
…the loss of our collective humanity…
…or the loss of respect for an office, and the criminal cowards who sullied it?

Unfortunately, with the level of current corruption in our government, it will take time to ferret our the wheat from the chaff, cull the truth from the lies….it’s all become so interwoven and de rigeur (accepted) these days. Therein lies the problem….it’s not apathy….it’s acceptance of lies as truth. Once the mindset of acceptance of corruption as “status quo”, the entire morale fabric of a society is damaged. This is precisely what has and continues to occur here. I find it extremely sad and disheartening to see how people sell their souls for money, lust for power, greed, collusion, etc. Unfortunately, the power infrastructure is now fascist – i.e., mega corporations running the government and the people. This did not happen by accident but occurred by “concerted design”. The problem is that the poor, unsuspecting patriotic “believers” were duped by those whom they trusted and put their faith in. When one is duped, initially the ego disallows any internal dialogue which supports the fact that the individual was not intelligent enough to recognize a shill or a dupe….but, after time, the gut begins to fester until the dark night of the soul….the moment of internal awareness that all IS NOT well and all IS NOT as it should be. At this pivotal moment, the individual knows the truth of his existence….the truth of his government….and although it’s not a pretty picture, he knows what must be done to resolve it and absolve himself from any form of complicity.
You’ve hit the nail on the head…..it’s going to take long, hard work of bringing the appropriate individuals to justice if we are to ever take back this democry Of The People. It’s going to take people’s commitment to truth and honesty. It was accomplished before and can be accomplished again but will not be an easy task – rather, it will take arduous, determined and thorough investigative work and then the courage and resolve to follow up and follow through with the trials and depositions. Look how much the public has already learned from the testimonies offered during Libby’s trial! Look at how complicit this WH looks now – something our guts told us from the outset but we were not courageous enough to honestly assess because we wanted to believe in the “american dream”…..the “lie” we’ve been brainwashed to believe….that we are somehow better than everyone else in the world. When we segregate ourselves from the rest of humanity, destruction is self-evident. When we believe that we are somehow destined to rule the world, we’ve sadly cut ourselves off from our own universe….and the golden rule: Do unto others…..as well as the foundation of our country: Our Constitution whose preamble begins with the truth that “all men are created equal”….This is where our serious work must begin….back at our roots. We must begin the reconstruction work today….that is, if we care about saving ourselves from our own self-destruction.

Papa, I think what we’re dealing with here is people making huge paychecks and knowing who signs them. Until we build a legal firewall between news operations and their corporate boards, these kinds of strange things will continue to happen. That said, I agree with Dowd, Bush has no bond with the general public anymore. AND politicians who associate to closely with him – including his attackers like Hillary – will be ignored at the polls. Americans are done with Bush and want to move on. Not necessarily good for Dems because that means the left has to develop a plan other than Bush is a liar. And the Democrats have no plan unless hatred can be written in their platform.
