Goode: Iraq Critics Are Helping ‘Jihadists Who Want The Crescent And Star To Wave Over The Capitol’

During today’s House debate on Iraq, virulently anti-Muslim Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA) said supporting the anti-escalation resolution would “aid and assist the Islamic jihadists who want the crescent and star to wave over the Capitol of the United States and over the White House of this country.” Moreover, he said, “I fear that radical Muslims who want to control the Middle East and ultimately the world would love to see ‘In God We Trust’ stricken from our money and replaced with ‘In Muhammad We Trust.’” Watch it:

[flv http://video.thinkprogress.org/2007/02/goode.320.240.flv]

In December, Goode wrote a now-infamous letter attacking Muslim Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and warning “American citizens” to “wake up” or “there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office.”

Digg It!

UPDATE: TPMCafe:

A top official at a leading Muslim group has just told us that GOP Rep. Virgil Goode’s fear that U.S. money may soon be stamped with “In Muhammad We Trust” is rather at odds with the actual history and theology of the Muslim religion. As this expert points out…Muslims don’t worship Muhammad. They are are monotheists worshiping a single God, called Allah in Arabic — not the individual Muhammad.

Full transcript:

We are in the middle of a four-day marathon here. While I cannot say that I agree with all of the actions of the president in dealing with Iraq, I will not be supporting H.Con.Res. 63. The eyes of the world are upon this House and there will be commentary from the Middle East to the streets of small town America about what we do here over this four-day period even though this resolution does not carry the weight of law.

When the commentary begins in the Middle East, in no way do I want to comfort and encourage the radical Muslims who want to destroy our country and who want to wipe the so-called infidels like myself and many of you from the face of the Earth. In no way do I want to aid and assist the Islamic jihadists who want the crescent and star to wave over the Capitol of the United States and over the White House of this country. I fear that radical Muslims who want to control the Middle East and ultimately the world would love to see “In God We Trust” stricken from our money and replaced with “In Muhammad We Trust.”

Goode is clearly a man who needs help. He was the one that spoke out against Congressman Ellison using a Koran. Goode may have been a difficult delivery or maybe his mother dropped him as a child, I don’t know. He doesn’t seem to be able to stand up in the House with saying something amazingly stupid.

  13. Tuber says:

It is my opinion that the US public must castrate the Bush administration through the use of our Congressional and Legislative branches. Expecting the leopard to change its spots has proven to be wholly unrealistic in that on issue after issue, without fail, the administration chooses the most devious and diabolical of methods necessary to achieve its objective.

When you combine the knowledge that the administration’s objectives themselves tend towards the immoral, inhumane, and outright insane with the facts of the consistent and undeniable methodology that the administration employs, the risk here is enormous. When seen in context with the damage that has already been done, the need for intervention is not just clear, but is the public’s obligation.

With the balance of power of congress now in the control of what is, bottom line, the opposition party to the administration, it is through this congress that the public can exercise its authority to shut the administration down completely. Nothing happens in this country without either the approval of congress or funding from it. The only power that the administration will have left will be the power of the “veto”, and I’m sure it would be used. But even that can be over-ridden and would also create a PR backlash that would be very negative for the administration.

And quickly, there are those who would point out that there are three branches of government and that the bush administration has control of the judicial. Sure, there’s been numerous appointments, but the bottom line is that the law is the law and in the current environment the law is definitely against the administration. A few cases here or there may get through on loyalty-greased skids but by far the actions will be based on firm law. And right now the law itself, as it should be in such cases, is the unwavering ally of the opposition to this diabolical administration.

    My four cents…

Goode’s blather is full of projections.

Who has invaded whom? Whose country has been destroyed by whom? Who is doing most of the dying? Who was advocating “let’s invade their countries” in order to change their religion by force? Who has destabilised the MiddleEast with a 4 year old occupation? Who has the bigger guns, the deeper pockets, and the bigger army?

But in true Orwelian fashion, it is “them” who pose a threat to peace-loving “us”.

  26. Raymond Funamoto says:

Virgil Goode-For-Nothing has opened his vile yap-trap once again and spewed out his jingoistic, racist, intolerant, demagogic hatred towards an non-existent problem. What do you expect from a creep who switched parties from Democrat to repugnant-repub and became a fudge-pachyderm of the Ghoulish Opportunistic Pedophiles? Goode(a more inappropriate name never existed) is also a thief, a knave and an unscrupulous dastardly crook who was implicated up to his eyeballs in the Randy “Duke” Cunningham scandal and barely escaped by the skin of his lying teeth! Using the repugnant-repub ploy of fanning the flames of religious and racial intolerance and jingoism, Goode-For-Nothing has ensured his defeat in his next election cycle…Keith Ellison has had the last laugh on this repugnant-repub racist crep! HAH!

That being said, Goode has just accused anyone who votes against Bush’s surge as aiding and abetting the enemy during time of war.

Congress can censure morons such as this. I’d love to see the Democrats get backbones and start complaining about these types of insults. What do they have to lose?

  51. Homer Hewitt says:

Goode is raising a stupid argument to a new level.

On and off the floors of Congress, Republicans make at least 2 claims that make no sense.

“If we don’t succeed over there, the terrorists will attack us over here.” Or, as Mr. Bush said in his 2/14 press conference “If we fail there, the enemy will follow us here”

Do they really believe that terrorists are waiting for some Iraq outcome before trying to hurt us here? If we “win” in Iraq, can we then let our guard down?

“If we fail in Iraq, Al Qaeda will be established in Iraq.”

Putting aside the fact that our invasion first brought some Al Qaeda to Iraq, we have little to fear if more are present. If more of them come, let them deal with the civil war there. And what will they gain in Iraq, use of all the nukes and other WMD that are there?

Republicans also claim that end the war resolutions undermine the morale of the troops. I doubt that most soldiers are affected greatly by Wahington politics. And if you ask them if they would like to see the end of the occupation and come home, guess what they would say.

But all this talk of throwing neocons in prison? That is the exact oppostite of what we want. Just ignore them, or even better debate them. I believe that members of congress should have to take an IQ test and the result be used to weigh their vote. In order to determine the outcome of a vote, the IQs of each side would be summed. That would give the Democrats three quarters of the Senate and 95% of the House. If the same principle were applied to the electoral college, plus races for the Senate and the House – the Republican Party would only be a memory in about 5 years and 318 days. 70. john says:

One of my big problems with the xenophobes of congress is the fact that they refuse to do any research on their “enemy” (in this case Islam) before attacking it. They seem to think that to study something you disagree with is to give it the seal of approval. Mr. Goode’s horrific oration aside, no pious Muslim would put “In Muhammad We Trust” on money because Muhammad is not a deity. He is simply a man to whom God revealed the truth. It is these types of basic theocratic mistakes that cause people who don’t share our faith to hate us and think us evil. Way to go Rep Goode!

You want a week off when you can’t come to a consensus on a non binding resolution opposing this Atrocity taking place in Iraq caused by Bush’s lies and the sanctioning of these lies by the 109th congress and the media. A resolution that means nothing. What have you done to deserve a week off? Our soldiers don’t get a week off in fact their lives and plans are disrupted by extended deployments and reduced time at home between deployments.
My anger is all but uncontainable. Go ahead murder some more soldiers and Iraquis for what? George Bush’s lies upon lies upon lies upon lies upon lies upon lies…
If my 15 year old kid ask permission to go to a party and assures me the parents are going to be home and then when I call to check some one poses as the parents and tells me they will be home and no drinking or other illegal behavior will be taking place. And then I give this son permission to go to the party but at 9:30 PM that party gets busted with a bunch of minors drinking and no parents present does that mean my kid gets off the hook, even though I gave permission? No My kid not only gets in trouble with the law he gets in trouble with me not only for the drinking but more so for the attempt to mislead, deceive, act in an inappropriate manner = LIE LIE LIE Even if he doesn’t call it that, that is what it is, a lie.
Bush lied got people in his administration to lie; SEE Feith, See Libby, See Powell, see Cheney, See Rice, See Rumsfeld, SEE Wolfowitz see, see, see. He got congress to give him permission to use all necessary force as long as Iraq was a threat. Does that me he gets off the hook? No he’s in trouble with international law see war crime. He’s in trouble with the country see Impeachment and he’s in trouble with any person who really gives a damn about our troops and the fact that their lives have been cut short , burned and dismembered mentally and physically. WASTED all for a mans arrogance and lies.
    DO SOMETHING!!!
Congress needs to in act binding resolutions that hold this man, George Bush, accountable for his lies that led to the illegal invasion of a country that DID NOT attack the United States.

One of my students asked me last week if I was an Atheist, after I explained that my veganism was not religion induced because I’m not a religious person. I was honest, and just said that I was with no further explanation.

In the days that have ensued, four of my students have freely admitted to being Atheists. I’ve begun to believe that the Center of American Atheists is right – that we have to ‘come out’, so that others will feel strength in doing the same.

i would only ask this character and any other of the Pat Robertson types out there to SHOW ME THE QUOTE of one, just one single solitary Muslim who has EVER spoken about removing “in God We Trust” from the US money and replacing it with “In Muhammad we Trust.”

That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. How much longer are we going to see Islam demonized for no reason just so that Western corporations can feel better about invading and occupying what they see as their OIL interestes in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East.

As a Muslim, I cannot even imagine any other Muslim advocating anything like this. Muslims believe in ONE GOD and Muhammad is the messenger of this ONE GOD. No Muslim could or would ever say “IN MUHAMMAD WE TRUST” nor would they want to impose it on Mr. Goode and his dollars.

This reminds me of a quote I just read from the Prophet Muhammad. These quotes are there for anyone to read. Why do people like Mr. Goode insist on making up stuff?–

In Islam, people aren’t even permitted to let themselves be oppressed. It is a sin, Mr. Goode.

“HADITH OF THE DAY: HELP PREVENT OPPRESSION

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Help your brother whether he is an oppressor or the oppressed.” A man then said: “I will help him if he is oppressed, but if he is an oppressor, how shall I help him?” The Prophet replied: “By preventing him from oppressing (others).”

    Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 9, Hadith 84

VERSE OF THE DAY: THE OPPRESSED SHOULD DEFEND THEMSELVES

“Whatever you are given is nothing but a provision for the transitory life of this world, better and ever lasting is the reward that God has for those who believe, put their trust in their Lord, avoid major sins and shameful deeds, forgive even when they are angry, answer the call of their Lord, establish regular prayer, conduct their affairs with mutual consultation, spend (in charity) out of the sustenance which We have given them, and when they are oppressed, help and defend themselves.”

  168. MD says:

The Truth About Muhammad: Founder of the World’s Most Intolerant Religion
Muhammad: a frank look at his influential (and violent) life and teachings
In The Truth about Muhammad, New York Times bestselling author and Islam expert Robert Spencer offers an honest and telling portrait of the founder of Islam-perhaps the first such portrait in half a century-unbounded by fear and political correctness, unflinching, and willing to face the hard facts about Muhammad’s life that continue to affect our world today.

From Muhammad’s first “revelation” from Allah (which filled him with terror that he was demonpossessed) to his deathbed (from which he called down curses upon Jews and Christians), it’s all here-told with extensive documentation from the sources that Muslims themselves consider most reliable about Muhammad.

Spencer details Muhammad’s development from a preacher of hellfire and damnation into a political and military leader who expanded his rule by force of arms, promising his warriors luridly physical delights in Paradise if they were killed in his cause. He explains how the Qur’an’s teaching on warfare against unbelievers developed-with constant war to establish the hegemony of Islamic law as the last stage.

Spencer also gives the truth about Muhammad’s convenient “revelations” justifying his own licentiousness; his joy in the brutal murders of his enemies; and above all, his clear marching orders to his followers to convert non-Muslims to Islam-or force them to live as inferiors under Islamic rule.

In The Truth about Muhammad, you’ll learn

    - The truth about Muhammad’s multiple marriages (including one to a nine-year-old) – How Muhammad set legal standards that make it virtually impossible to prove rape in Islamic countries – How Muhammad’s example justifies jihad and terrorism – The real “Satanic verses” incident (not the Salman Rushdie version) that remains a scandal to Muslims – How Muhammad’s faulty knowledge of Judaism and Christianity has influenced Islamic theology–and colored Muslim relations with Jews and Christians to this day.

Recognizing the true nature of Islam, Spencer argues, is essential for judging the prospects for largescale Islamic reform, the effective prosecution of the War on Terror, the democracy project in Afghanistan and Iraq, and immigration and border control to protect the United States from terrorism.

All of which makes it crucial for every citizen (and policymaker) who loves freedom to read and ponder The Truth about Muhammad.

“Because mankind is intrinsically wicked, he has to be governed,” Strauss wrote. “Such governance can only be established, however, when men are united-and they can only be united against other people.” Strauss’ established governance, is made possible through “aggressive, belligerent foreign policy,” and “perpetual war, not perpetual peace, is what Straussians believe in.” A Straussian society needs an endless war to supply a “them” against which “we” will do endless battle. The endless war, such a horrible prospect for the rest of us, provides the political glue to transform the United States from a Democracy to a Straussian totalitarian state.

The visible leaders of this state are the “gentlemen.” Drawn from the best families, trained to appear like leaders, imbued with the language of honor and piety, they are the Straussian State’s figureheads. Although Strauss advocated a single state religion for the hoi polloi, at the top guiding the gentlemen, was a secret cabal of atheistic “philosophers.” Strauss knew, and believed that all great philosophers knew, that religion is hokum. It was necessary for the masses, but not for the philosophers who, Strauss thought, would secretly rule the state. These atheistic philosophers would supply Machiavellian wisdom to the gentlemen. Drury notes that in attributing wisdom to the philosophers Strauss is not a conservative, for conservatives believe that the traditions of the society, as they have developed over time, and not these philosophers, are the repository of wisdom. The society Strauss envisions is really only “good” for these philosophers. Everyone else is forced to live in delusion. Of course, Strauss believed average people couldn’t bear the truth and needed the comfort of religion, so he argued that his hierarchical state was good for them too.

Because they reason in secret, the Straussian philosophers must form a secret society in which they reveal the truth to their students, “the puppies.” Their works will contain their real “esoteric” meaning hidden in a diversionary “exoteric” meaning. And since these philosophers will be political they will form a cabal in order to rule. Their job, at first, is to wean America away from its “love affair” with liberalism. To do this they will drive a wedge between liberalism and democracy. Strauss distinguishes between the two. “Liberalism is concerned with securing the greatest possible freedom for individuals. And this may very well be accomplished with a constitutional monarchy. Democracy is the rule of the people, or rule according to the will of the people or the majority.” It can easily be used to suppress liberalism. By demagogic manipulation democracy, through a populist appeal, can be turned against liberalism. Since the cabal tells the truth only to its own elite members, and dissembles to everyone else for the purpose of welding together this rigid hierarchical structure, lying to the public is a virtue. Indeed all the gentlemen’s speech to the public, supplied by the philosophers, is for the purpose of manipulation.
The essential first task for the philosophers is to produce ideology that the gentlemen will use to attack liberalism and gain power. Strauss’s hatred of liberalism is so virulent that he sees the struggle against it as a war, and in war all is fair. For this reason Straussians will use every dirty trick they can think of in the democratic arena in order to defeat liberalism. While doing so they will corrupt democracy itself. But since democracy is only a tool with which to defeat liberalism in order to institute the true Straussian hierarchical society, this is of little import. In the end they will jettison democracy if to do so is expedient.

After it defeats liberalism, the cabal will still have work to do to institute the Straussian good society. Even with religion and the lies of the philosophers, the society will not be stable. “Strauss thinks that a political order can be stable only if it is united by an external threat, and following Machiavelli, he maintains that if no external threat exists, then one has to be manufactured.” The fundamental political categories are “us” and “them.” A sense of perpetual crisis and war cements the society together with absolute loyalty to the gentlemen. But the categories “us” and “them” do not stop at external enemies. The sense of crisis makes the struggle against internal enemies an even more desperate war of “us” against “them.”

Since domestic politics is also conceived in terms of war, the rules of democracy must not be allowed to prevent victory. Opponents of the ruling cabal, whatever their stripe, are “them.” Indeed, since the cabal of philosophers is deceiving everyone else, even those who have joined the cause out of religious zeal are, in a real sense, “them.” A small circle of initiates who repel the advances of everyone else is a feature of the Straussian State. These initiates are philosophers who rely on reason, and nihilistic reason tells them there are no rules, none, in this domestic battle.

Looks like Goode took the GOP letter a little too seriously. He went crazy today–but don’t blame the poor guy. He was following GOP orders and flipped his lid.

  181. IMPEACH CHENEY BUSH NOW says:

If an impartial and reasonable observer, let’s say from another planet, were to judge the overall state of our nation and our world solely by the performances of Dick Cheney, Stenny Hoyer and Heather Wilson, aired on c-span thursday, they would be forced to conclude that America is now firmly embarked on a monumentally dysfunctional and catastrophic course of historic proportions, equal in consequence to the emporer Nero’s fiddling as Rome descended into conflagration, dissolution, and ruin. Thankfully, however, the mandate which We, The People of The United States Of America delivered in the form of the incontrovertable results of our most recent mid-term elections, tell a much more encouraging if somewhat less than entirely positive story.

The disasterously selfish, narrow-minded, greedy, wholly reprehensible, amoral and regularly traitorous Republican policys initiated by b-movie actor cum Presidente Ronald Regan have now almost run their noxious course through the bloodstream of our body politic, yet by the grace of Providence, Americans, as proven by the resounding mandate of November 2006, at long last have in fact awakened from the tortuously fevered nightmare of the pitiably disgraceful 20 year GOP reign over our beloved Constitutional Republic.

Although a significant count of these virulent germs remain in our system and do depress our national vitality, the night is over, dawn is breaking, the real Morning In America has arrived, at long last the day does truly lie in all its glorious promise and splendor before us, and just as generations of our ancestors have done, the real patriotic Americans, the patient ones, the humble ones, the good ones, the smart ones, shall now summon and renew all of our strength and all of our courage to entirely shake off the last few encumbering, and thus no less annoying, parasitic vestiges of this national sickness which is now, as it was on the eve of Watergate, in its inevitably ghastly last dying throes.

A mercifully short yet for that brevity no less disturbing summary in order to highlight, as it were, the actors in this charade, is regrettably called for, just as brushing the accumulated detritus from one’s teeth is the necessary though never pleasant first duty to one’s self upon arising from a long and sometimes critical convalescance: this self-proclaimed party of moral values, including Cheney, Bush, Rice, Rumsfeld, Hastert, Foley, Guiliani, Gingrich, Frist, Delay, Snow, Cunningham, Foggo, Donohue, Coulter, Limbaugh, Beck, Kristol, Hannity, O’Reilly, Noe, and Libby, among many others, have all been engaged in a deliberate progamme here on our American soil which cannot be considered anything less than entirely fascistic and entirely unamerican.

Let us turn now to consider the aforesaid remarks on c-span. Heather Wilson, decked out in a hideous blue dress of all things, looking and sounding literally like the Bride Of Frankenstein in a singularly weird multi-part blue grey coif to make Boris Karloff himself green with envy, delivered an indescribably excruciating address, yet try to describe it we shall, detailing the ostensible reasons for her opposition to the Democratic resolution opposing a so-called “surge” of yet 20,000 more American troops into the disaster that is Iraq, at an overall cost and debt of some nine trillion dollars, intentionally created for the oil and weapons interests, among others, to enrich their already bloated bank accounts.

Now now, the voices of continued aquiescence posing in their fear as moderates appeal, that is just kooky crazy fanatical conspiracy theory. Well, then, if all of this wasn’t intentional, if it is all just mere
bad luck and happenstance, then the Republican engineers and Democratic enablers of our condition are so incompetent, so short sighted, and so blisteringly ignorant that to paraphrase Sir Winston
Churchill they are not fit to manage a whelk stall.

In her strange, hysterical, teary and entirely petulant performance, Ms. Wilson said that the resolution really doesn’t do anything, that because it only mandates support for past or current service persons
it ignores the surgers, and further that the American left wants to summarily cut off all funding for our troops. To say that Wilson’s singularly ingenuous remarks put the cart before the horse is entirely too kind to her. Would that any Republican ever evinced any fraction of such histronic concern for the economic plight of any sector of our beloved nation other than our military. Republicans, apparently,
do not have any notion of progress, economic or otherwise, which does not contain an unimaginably expensive and sadistically restrictive government and deadly military paradigm as its sole centerpiece and raison d’etre.

As Mr. Murphy in his courageous, patriotic, and imminently worthy speech aptly noted, the time for more troops was four years ago. Furthermore, in point of fact, the record clearly and unambiguously
proves beyond any question whatsoever that the American left has opposed all of the Republican policys since the time of Ron “Bonzo” Regan which have led directly to this contemptibly sorry and sordid pass to begin with, yet for all of that, not one even marginally responsible voice on the American left in any way has ever, does ever, or will ever advocate defunding our Best and Bravest, as Steny
Hoyer, looking directly into the camera, and speaking directly to our troops, clearly said in so many words, which cannot be misconstrued, misinterpereted, spun, whitwashed, twisted, distorted or otherwise confused by any even semi-conscious marginally sentient person over the age of 9.

Ms. Wilson, whimpering, demanded to know what about funds for the new surgers we have drawn this resolution to oppose sending at all in the first place. It was a nice try, as are Bush’s repeated assertions that We, The People of the United States of America “haven’t been asked to sacrifice anything”. We have sacrificed our health care, we have sacrificed our wage insurance, we have sacrificed our education, we have sacrificed our Brothers, Sisters, Mothers, Fathers, Sons and
Daughters, we have sacrificed nine trillion dollars, we have sacrificed our international reputation and respect, we have sacrificed our neighborhoods, we have sacrificed our environment, we have
sacrificed our culture and our humanity, our arts, our progress, and our very notion of what it means to be American. We have sacrificed Rights, Constitution, fellow-feeling, and identity.

We shall never, we can never, and we will never sacrifice our sacred Liberty.

Ms. Wilson may be able to hornswoggle a few parched desert dwellers with her attempts to make us all forget everything but the past 60 seconds, historically speaking, but the greater mass of American people, credulous though they may be, have always had, and despite the persistent multi-trillion dollar propaganda blitz of the Republican right, manifestly still do retain their ability to know and to understand very well when they have been lied to for nigh on 20 years, and again that fact was proven this past November, though it would seem a few, a very few, still have yet to hear that news. As Abraham Lincoln so sagely observed there simply is no possible way to fool all of us all of the time.

Dick Cheneys manner in his remarks to a notably small yet nonetheless boisterously sycophantic gathering of manufacturers, bore a remarkable resemblance to another movie freak: Peter Sellers
memorable militaro-nuclear-fascist character of Dr. Strangelove in the brilliant movie by the same name. Cocked in a permanent and very painful to look at crick to the right, Cheneys head seemed at every moment instantly to threaten to tear itself from his own neck, perhaps to hurl disembodied clear across the blue-draped conference room, there to roll around clatteringly on the floor like some loose bowling ball that has stuck just a tad too long on the fingers of a neophite in that sport, thus endangering all who might have the singular misfortune to intercept its wildly hurtling, perilously
    dangerous trajectory.

Mr. Cheney words advocating responsibility, truth, honesty, and patriotic duty clattered, too, with resounding hollowness around the perimeter of that room, even seemingly around the inside of his own head as somehow it did manage to stay put, while their import emerged through his eyes, betraying the cognative dissonance his utterances visibly conveyed to the chamber which, presumably, once held whatever might have existed of his inherited human conscience.

Suffice it to say that the surpassingly delicate shuffles and feints, the passes and tricks, the numerous practiced manuvers Cheney performed, all with a disgusted and growling sneer, looking at every turn as though he could never convey the depth of his conviction that he ought not be addressing such chumps as these mere manufacturers at all, but realizing there might be some scattered coin in political capital lying about the floor (perhaps this was what his head continually lurched at) while simultaneously attempting to cloak his actual globalist corporate agenda in the flowing mantle of legitimately elected democratic authority, will provide the most advanced scholars of the genre material for fascinated scrutiny in minute detail for many years to come. Cheney is like that other forbidding Wyoming petrochemical phenomenon and force of nature: the Yellowstone tar pits.

Mr. Hoyer rounded out this American Gothic trio. While he is arguably better than nothing, most telling and most troubling was Stenny’s impassioned advocacy for winning the war on terror. Has no one yet informed Mr. Hoyer that We, The People of The United States Of America, despite all efforts to provide us with just enough education as to be employable, still do clearly understand the fact that war cannot be waged on an abstract notion? That we fully understand
that war means killing real human beings?

That we know full well that Al-Quaeda was the creature of our own CIA, funded by Regan in order to divide our fellow human beings the Russians, by deliberately inciting and encouraging a handful of religious extremists? That this entire paradigm is the result of the persistent refusal on the part of a few vested interests, which control our whole economic and political process, to fund the development of all of the numerous safe, clean, sustainable, renewable independent American energy sources which have existed for millenia and been well understood and available to us for over a century? How is this Patriotic? How is this Responsible?

How is this Moral? It is not, and all the propaganda, lies, wars and money in the world will ever make it so.

That we have been and are terrorized every day by this cabal which has usurped our legitimate authority over our free, sovereign and peace-loving nation? That we do not believe, either, in any sort of Homeland, that we love more than life itself our Nation, and that true security means diplomacy and engagment in the world, as a leader in the community of free and sovereign nations, with the use of our Best and Bravest Men and Women in a reasonably-sized fully equipped military under our traditional legal American Constitutional civilian authority as a very last, most extreme, and most reluctantly if ever used measure? It is plain that Stenny, suave and redoubtable as he is, hasn’t heard that news either. Apparently, Stenny is buying into the Homeland Security gambit. Someone please tell him We The People are not going to pay that bill.

  200. Cheri Montagu says:

Virgil Goode’s got it backwards. It’s the US which wants to, and is, exercising too much power in the Middle East, to the detriment of the whole region. His notion that Muslims– even radical ones– would replace “In God We Trust” with “In Muhammad We Trust” is is another case of Jungian projection. Christianity is far more idolatrous than Islam, which is quite emphatic in rejecting the idea that any human being can be divine (and I say this as someone who is not Muslim herself, but who knows more than Goode does about the Muslim religion). But of course, no Muslims would ever have a chance to bring about this change even if they wanted to. Goode reminds me of that psychotic criminal who cut off the arms of the hitchhiker he picked up and later said, when in custody of the police, that he was only defending himself from the girl, who was the real aggressor. IT IS THE US WHICH IS THE AGGRESSOR, NOT ANY MUSLIM ANYWHERE.

This people are authoritarian christianists and they scare me. Radical religious types of all stripes scare the hell out of me. Before we jump all over this nutjob, there is a LOT of truth to what he says. I don’t think Americans have experience in dealing with Muslim radicals – the kind that not only believe in Jihad, but the so-called Moderates who use the law of your land to enter, but then use the same law to separate themselves from mainstream society.

There is one country in this world who has this experience: India.

In India, prior to the last major war/skirmish with Pakistan, the overwhelming majority of Muslims of India have openly supported Pakistan. They’ve made statements like the ones Goode describes. That is, their goal is to raise the flag of Islam over the Capital of India. Many more examples exisit my friends.

I’m a liberal here, but I think any liberal who doesn’t realize the enormity of the threat that radical Islam carries is delusional and frankly dangerous.

The reality is that we are smackdab in the middle of the Islamic “Renaissance”, where the religion is undergoing a massive transformation. Given the interconnectedness of today’s world, all of us are impacted.

Goode is a nutjob, there’s no question about that. But, he is 100% right about this. Let’s not equate his statement to a blanket general statement that anyone who disagrees with the Iraq war, supports the things he’s talking about. He’s never said such a thing in the video above. Think of Islamic terrorism in a global concept, like it should be analyzed.

This dude doesn’t quit. As a muslim, one who has relatives here and in Northern Africa, I have been to many mosques and I have spoken to many people. Trust me, the last thing on our minds is taking over this country.

Most of us talk about getting our kids into college, the state of social security when we retire, why is gas so goddamn expensive, why can’t ford and gm make better cars and lastly, what’s wrong with network television.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a rationality test before taking your seat in congress

  222. pete592 says:

Sometimes the loony far right does a better job of parody than even the The Daily Show can.

  223. Capt. Howdy says:

    that wacky congressman Goode
    possessed a virulent ‘tude.
    Allah, he feared.
    a breakdown he neared
    spiraling ominously downward in mood.

  224. Tamera says:

I, unfortunately, also live in his district. This guy is an idiot and embarrassment. I voted for Al Weed. Comically, there is a fairly large population of Muslims in his district as well. We’ll get him next election, don’t you worry.

“Trust me, the last thing on our minds is taking over this country.”

No, Nabil. That may be the last thing on YOUR mind, but you don’t speak for every Muslim. And the Qur’an/ahadith/sira you read are no different from those read by these Muslims:

“I wouldn’t want to create the impression that I wouldn’t like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future…But I’m not going to do anything violent to promote that. I’m going to do it through education.” (Ibrahim Hooper, CAIR spokesman).

  227. George Arndt says:

I can’t tell right-wing lunacy from satire any more.

  228. The Infidel Sage says:

Good for him. I’m tired of the all the politically correct, muliticulturalism crap.

    Telling it like it is.

  229. Kaosktrl says:

I have the Scripture that makes his case ,a muslim who wishes to governors by other than shareeah law is a kafir , Try to be an American who supports the western culture liberty and freedom rather than a partisan hack who doesn’t know if Islam may be a threat.

  230. DefenderofIslam says:

I than E-mail my congressman to allow the people in this nutjob district who donot want this wacko represtment then to have than othrer congressperson look after they interest. Plus this nut job needed to be spank by the growing up he was not spank enought when he was akid.

  231. DefenderofIslam says:

There are many invalid Hadith that where left in place in the books on Hadiths as than test for the student to pick them out. Some false Hadiths later turn out to be true. The Theory of Evolution show afew of the Hadiths that where false where in fact correct. The Theory of Evolution cause Christian and Judical(jewish Religion) touble but not Islam. Also the Koran support the big bang and the Theory of Evolution.

  232. Calista says:

No, Nabil. That may be the last thing on YOUR mind, but you don’t speak for every Muslim. And the Qur’an/ahadith/sira you read are no different from those read by these Muslims:
