Mohammed al Dulaimy, Baghdad correspondent for McClatchy News, writes:
Today was a sad day; our staff lost another member who left this morning. Every one else is new for me and another colleague of mine. The new guys are great and wonderful persons but it is so hard to make new friends over and over.
I looked up my phone list, name by name, some were killed, others are missing, many left the country and few are still here in one piece. It makes me frustrated cause I know for a fact we will not see each other again. Even if they come back who says i will be alive to see them again.
i think it is about time to say I have had enough, I will not make any new friends that will be killed, kidnapped or leave the country.
Democracy is tough. /sarc
February 18th, 2007 at 9:51 pmThis is not democracy.
February 18th, 2007 at 9:55 pmIt’s anarchy, at it’s worst.
Iraq has become a very violent and hate filled country. I feel sorry for everyone who lives there, or is a reporter there, or forced to be there as a US soldier. Bush is responsible for the madness Iraq has become.
February 18th, 2007 at 9:57 pmStay away from the FNGs, DEROS home.
February 18th, 2007 at 9:58 pmSuch a hopeless entry. So sad. I’m sorry.
February 18th, 2007 at 9:59 pmThis is the kind of journalism the American people need to hear.
They are not motivated by facts, but by emotion – so that is exactly what should be given to them. The emotion of those who subsist in Iraq.
This is heart wrenching.

February 18th, 2007 at 10:09 pmThis is a disgrace for humanity. We should extinct. Some becuz they do wars and the rest becuz we let them.
February 18th, 2007 at 10:15 pmsuch a sad commentary…
how can someone like that be asked to stay and keep reporting the much needed facts… actually, it may not be needed any more… we have enough information to know what a horrible situation it is…
February 18th, 2007 at 10:42 pm…
The refugee situation that this illegal invasion and occupation has caused is outrageous enough…
…factor in reports that the U.S. has accepted ONLY 500 Iraqi refugees out of millions into THIS country…
…and you have a humanitarian disaster, and irrefutable case that Bushiva and L’il Dick et al should DEFINITELY be charged with crimes against humanity…
The right wing Bushite war criminals keep saying that we (the U.S. military) will leave Iraq when the security situation is under control…
…when the Iraqi Army and police units are able to “stand up” and protect the people and government…
THINK!
…the Iraqi Army and police units (which reportedly number in the hundreds of thousands and have been in training for at least two years)…
…DO NOT HAVE the proper equipment…
WHY?
…because their ranks have been seriously compromised with militia and insurgents, and therefore cannot be trusted with the most up to date equipment…
…lest they turn such weaponry against U.S. units…
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
…the Iraqi Army and police units may NEVER be ready to stand up (permanent U.S. bases being built), but certainly won’t be while Bushiva and L’il Dick are in office…
…STALLING FOR TIME…
…and making a buck in the meantime…
…while we the people bicker over “Who really supports the troops?”…
February 18th, 2007 at 10:49 pmWould that the Bush mongers would get a chance to stand up against a wall and let these troops have a crack at them.

Justice is slow Jenny…
…but it comes…
…remember the bombing of the church in Birmingham, AL during the Civil Rights era…
…or the murders of the three Civil Rights workers Schwerner, Chaney and Goodman…
…it’s taken decades for those perpetrators to be brought to justice- against overwhelming odds…
…but they have been…
…”be of good cheer, for joy cometh in the morning”…
February 19th, 2007 at 12:17 amI don’t understand how it could come to this.
This Administration doesn’t represent me or my beliefs. They don’t represent ANYONE that I know. Nobody I know WANTS this. They don’t represent anything this country that I love wants or what it USED to stand for. How did this happen and how do we fix it before it is too late? I mean before it is TOO late, because they will be bombing Iran soon regardless of their words.
I don’t believe anything will stop this. Why anyone still listens to any of their words at this point is beyond me.. They have proved OVER AND OVER again how the words never match the actions, and to what lengths they will go to do what they want and to manipulate the American public in the process. They have lied repeatedly. They have broken laws to do it and nobody is doing anything about it! They have now manuevered themselves into position to attack Iran, and all that is left is an incident to light the match. AND.. they are trying to get that match lit.
It IS coming because it IS what they want.
They don’t represent this country, only an extreme few. An EXTREMIST few I should say. They are making money in the process hand over fist. A lot of money is being made by a lot of people. War is big business. People, LOTS of people are dying inthe meantime. People and families around the globe are devasted and torn apart. Their lives will never be right again. The country of Iraq is decimated. I can’t even imagine what will happen if they spray gasoline on this fire that is Iraq if they bomb Iran. The time to stop this is BEFORE not after we are already engaged.
The Administration and their talking heads say all the right things, and people so need to trust and believe in their leaders that they still listen, but they are all liars. They have proved it repeatedly. People like that don’t suddenly change and start telling the truth.
February 19th, 2007 at 12:50 amThe cost is going to be the instability of this entire world, not just our country. Once the bombs start falling in Iran, it will be too late to stop this. This has never been about terrorism, or keeping our country safe, only about money, power, oil and gas, Peak Oil, globalization and empire building, and crazy ideas from a group of extreme thinking people who have their own idea of how the world should look. It is most definitely not in line with what the people of this country want. They (the Administration) doesn’t care about what Americans really think, what they need, the direction they want to take, about the soldiers (or they would have sent enough – armed them appropriately – and would be taking care of them appropriately once they came home), about the Iraqis (who are dying and sacrificing their lives and treasure on an astronomical scale – and for what), they don’t care about what the rest of the world thinks and they don’t care if they bankrupt our treasury. They are making money hands over fist. In two years they will be gone. I rcently read where Bush actually bought a 100,000 acre spread in northern Paraquay where they don’t have extradition for polital offenses.. Do you suppose that is where he will escape trial and imprisonment?
How much money does it take to make you sleep like a baby at night regardles of the cost in humanity?
These people are criminals who are running our country. Congress had better get it together soon..
Sorry for all of that. I am just frustrated..
February 19th, 2007 at 1:14 amJenny G. > I agree with you and this country is dying under the Bush Regime, but many in the Congress are oblivious to what is happening.

It doesn’t cost any money to sleep like a baby if you are a sociopath, and clearly the people at the top of the Bush administration are sociopaths.
February 19th, 2007 at 2:30 amJenny G~Great,heartfelt post.
Let’s just hope this statement comes to pass:
“In two years they will be gone.”
With the crimes this administration has committed;can they afford to be out of power?
February 19th, 2007 at 2:46 amGREAT NEWS GREAT NEWS

Congress’ Liability in a
Nuclear Strike on Iran
No more European vacations for our legislators?
Madrid, Brussels, London, Berlin, Paris, Rome, and Vienna may well be off-limits to U.S. members of Congress soon. Just as well: they will still be able to enjoy pleasant summer breaks in Crawford, Texas, or Jackson Hole, Wyo., in the best of companies [1], [2]. That’s certainly preferable to ending up in a European jail for a very long time.
Every one of the 535 members of the 110th Congress is liable to face criminal indictment from the International Criminal Court in de Hague if the U.S. uses nuclear weapons in the impending conflict with Iran.
Following an indictment, every country that is a State Party to the International Criminal Court (ICC) will be required to take into custody any members of Congress
February 19th, 2007 at 6:15 amWow, here’s news. War in Iraq. Baghdad. You live and work in a war zone. Is this news? Is it a conserted effort by liberals to solely focus on the hardships of war with no regard to the alternative? Life under a brutal dictator is better? Genocidal Civil war will be better. Jihad friendly theocracy is better? I hope you realize that you could succeed in obtructing the war effort, leading to withdrawal. I hope you are right and I am wrong, but if/when we withdraw from a destabilized Iraq, those supporting the withdrawal become as responsibile for the consequences as Bush and his supporters are for the consequences of the war to date. Deny it all you want. But with leadership comes responsibility. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

February 19th, 2007 at 9:49 amYou need not apologize for your posts from your heart. Many of us share your horror and your despair.
Paul, I think the latest reports have indicated that most Iraqis ARE saying that life under Saddam was better than the lives they have today.
February 19th, 2007 at 9:55 amAt least, even under the brutal dictator, there was an economy, schools, hospitals, sanitation, electricity and a working infrastructure.
He was taken down for his “brutality” but the truth is that his regime was the legitimate excuse — actually, it was the oil in Iraq, and the fact that Bush&Co felt that it would be easy to dislodge him and gain a huge advantage in the “war for oil.”
Jenny G. Please don’t apologize for giving us all a sobering message.

To summarise your blather:
“Let those Iraqis eat cake.”
Same callousness, a lot less space. You can thank me later.

Shut your stupid pie hole, paul, and try to get a clue. You’d be pissing your pants every minute of the day, if you were going through what Mohammed al Dulaimy bravely goes through everyday.
Jenny G, great comment, very moving. Thanks.
February 19th, 2007 at 11:27 amIf TP ever posted a story of something positive in Iraq (which would never happen) you would yawn and question it as propaganda. You’re not interested unless it promotes your agenda of defeat. It’s sad, but very true. To what extremes will you go to make yourself feel better about your political party?
February 19th, 2007 at 12:12 pmHere’s an idea, paul, use “the Google” and find some really cool positive stories from Iraq. You can be a hero for your cause!
I’m sure there’s at least one school that’s been painted this year, and maybe some troops gave some Iraqi children some candy.
February 19th, 2007 at 12:20 pmExcellent post Jenny G. There are many, many of us who feel and THINK the same way. The ones who don’t feel the same are the same ones who can’t be bothered to THINK. Sometimes I have to take a break from TP because the truth is so heavy with misery. But like the reporter in your video said, this is how the war machine keeps going, by keeping people ignorant of this horror, because, truely, if we knew it all, we would never let it happen. So I come back and cry and try and make a difference, just like you. Don’t give up.

I see your delicate psyche is taking a beating lately.
Why don’t you take this talking point to the Tony Snow thread -you know, the one where Snow admits that things have gone wrong in Iraq? Does Snow also have “an agenda of defeat”?
What is really sad is how unoriginal your posts are. We have all seen this nonsense for years now.
C’mon Paul, send Snow a letter protesting his focus on the bad news from Iraq, and asking him why he hates America.
February 19th, 2007 at 1:46 pmGreat post, Jenny G, you have nothing to apologize for!
February 19th, 2007 at 2:39 pmHi Zooey!

Good news: a new school has being painted at Baghdad. Bad news: 20 students of that school died this week in a market bombing, loose shots, and in an abbandoned cluster bomb incident.
Really, we are evil guys, only thinking in the bad news.
specially for paul, the above paragraph is sarcasm. The rest of you, ‘cept the Bush rah rah cheerleaders, probably understood it as such.
