“Seizing on an investigative report by The Washington Post’s Dana Priest and Anne Hull, Sens. Barack Obama (D-IL) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO) will introduce legislation next week to require more frequent inspections of hospitals providing treatment to active-duty military personnel.” Meanwhile, Sens. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) and Patty Murray (D-WA) “wrote to Defense Secretary Robert Gates today demanding an inspector general’s investigation into living conditions for the returning soldiers at Walter Reed.”
UPDATE: Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) has sent a letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates, demanding answers on Walter Reed.

I knew Patty Murry would be all over this, she has worked hard for the vet’s in our state…Blessings Patty, keep up the good work.
February 20th, 2007 at 5:02 pmHmmmm, Republicans……?
February 20th, 2007 at 5:07 pmRemember that Walter Reed is scheduled to close in 2011 as part of the BRAC process and be relocated somwehere else.
How much money do you expect a closing facility to shovel into buildings? Particularly a facility located in the voteless District of Columbia?
February 20th, 2007 at 5:07 pmSomebody needs to ask at a press conference why the POTUS hates our troops so much. They/We need to make a case that the real traitors are the Bush Admin. and anyone who supports their agenda. Paint ‘em into a corner and keep ‘em there until they can’t fu*k anything else up.
February 20th, 2007 at 5:10 pmDoes anyone else find it pathetic that these people need to rely on a news organization to tell them what needs attention?

I hate to even think of what might be f*cked up that we don’t know about yet….
February 20th, 2007 at 5:20 pmThe VA has been consistently rated as a top notch system. So, once you can get the injured troops away from the Army, which runs Walter Reed, they should be ok.
February 20th, 2007 at 5:29 pmI don’t think a piece of legislation that is at its essence closing the barn door after the horse has left ,will accomplish much.
obama buffoon, hillary buffoon
nonsense rhymes that chatter on worriedly for their concern
their concern is, for themselves
hey big time politico’s, we have lot’s of big problems here in podunk too. our bridges are falling apart. our drinking water never recovered from the freaked out water guys putting in chlorine in it after 9/11.

you have enough evidence to impeach him, but you do nothing
February 20th, 2007 at 5:31 pmTruth is all the V.A. services have been screwed up and cut short on fund’s for longer than this bunch of carpet baggers have been in office…It started back when the repulsivecons were doling out the votes and money over 12 year’s ago…..All V.A, run offices have been down sized to almost non existant…I know because I had a close friend in the V.A. feeding me the info and what was lacking…It’s been part of the loot and shoot America by our own polaticians on both sides…The one’s doing the looting and shooting and the enabelers…..We are long past.” get angry”, and then “get even”…Turn on the flood light’s and boot all their butt’s out, folk’s….Blessings

February 20th, 2007 at 6:09 pmWhy dont you check some veteran sites like http://www.vetsforjustice.com/ , then come back and repeat that.
CHIMPya, Torticola Cheney and Bushland Uber Allies COULD NOT CARE LESS ABOUT OUR BRAVE AMERICAN TROOPS WHO LOSE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR SELFISH PERSONAL GAIN, NOR ABOUT THOSE BRAVE AMERICAN TROOPS, WHO, WHILE NOT LOSING THEIR LIVES, ARE SERIOUSLY INJURED AND MAIMED…Those COWARDLY SCUM Bush, Cheney and Bushland Uber Allies CALLOUSLY DISREGARD THE NEEDS OF OUR BRAVE TROOPS AFTER THEY HAVE SACRIFICED FOR AMERICA SO WE NEED , WITH THE HELP OF THE DEMOCRAT-CONTROLLED CONGRESS, TO HELP OUR BRAVE SERVICEMEN WHO NEED MEDICAL HELP BECAUSE Bushland Uber Allies IS NOT GOING TO HELP THEM AT ALL!!!!!

February 20th, 2007 at 7:06 pmVeterans say VA unfair in denying disability benefits
—-snip —
“I’ve been working with the VA with a lot of my (patients),” said Fred McQueen Jr., a physician in Hamlet. “With the VA, I can’t make them accept (my statements). I’ve sent them pages from textbooks and articles, and they don’t pay any attention. They’ve been jerking (veterans) around.”

February 20th, 2007 at 9:43 pmSome hot-shit women Dems. Compare the moral outrage and desire to act of these women to ANYBODY ( hard to say what gender any of em are, anyway) in the Rep. congress.
February 20th, 2007 at 10:35 pmOddly, The WH doesn’t seem particularly embarrassed. They must be on final-spin by now.

The White House does not care, They knew about it, they caused it, they did not do anything to fix it. This is just the tip of the iceburg of the way Veterans have been treated by this Administration.
They don’t really support the troops. They are just cannon fodder to George W Bush.
February 20th, 2007 at 10:42 pmAmazing that not one right wing prick has commented on this thread. And they avoid it like the plague if you bring it up when connected to another thread. My suggestion is…bring it up on every single thread that has to do with Iraq or the military.
February 20th, 2007 at 11:30 pmExley, where are you? Are you proud of yourself?
February 20th, 2007 at 11:40 pmThe Entire Congress better do something to correct the abuse of wounded soldiers or WE the people are going to revolt. Enough is enough!
February 21st, 2007 at 12:11 amFunny how the left who celebrates each death of a U.S. Serviceman for its political gain now rants about how our soldiers are being victimized by the very kind of health care they want to provide all Americans.
The selective outrage of the left never disappoints.
February 21st, 2007 at 9:50 amI think if I remember right that salon.com did a story on this about 2 years ago and guess what no one did a dammed thing then so Im not to cofident anything will happen now well for a litle while till the story goes away then its bizz as usual
February 21st, 2007 at 11:30 amwhat a load of manure! It’s been the same whether your a dumbocrat and repug… What a load of crap. It’s been the same for years and years. Getting anything doe wit the VA has always been a crap shoot, we have always had to wait for care. It has been a thorn in my side for over a decade. I was discharged in 1990, after having recieved a permanently disableing injury to my right ankle that in the course of years, has taken out my right knee, left knee and left ankle. I can barely walk 2 blocks, and deal with pain 24 hours a day. That being said, and the fatc that I lost a great job because I could no longer carry any equipment, (computer/monitor/etc, you would think I might be rated more than 50%, but nooooo. No training benefits, it’s been too long, (though it has been steadily getting worse since discharge). It has gotten better, but doing anything with the va takes 3-9 months!!!
February 21st, 2007 at 12:32 pmThis just in. Socialized medicine doesn’t work.
February 21st, 2007 at 12:36 pm[…] Well in response to the reports of neglected veterans at Walter Reed, Democratic senators have been quick to respond on their […]
February 21st, 2007 at 11:08 pmDepends on which country’s socialized medicine you use. The developed countries which have socialized medicine have a tendancy to want to keep it. There are worse things to throw away money on than keeping people relatively healthy.
