IDEX-2007, touted as the world’s largest military defense exhibition, began yesterday in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The conference — which brings together “key decision-makers from across the world, defense ministers, chiefs of staff and senior officers from army, navy and air force to network” with defense contractors — is attracting a great deal of attention from Persian Gulf states.
The recently-released National Intelligence Estimate assessed that increasing violence and unrest in Iraq “have heightened fears of regional instability and unrest and contributed to a growing polarization between Iran and Syria on the one hand and other Middle East governments on the other.” And Iraq’s neighbors are equipping themselves for potential battle. The AP reports:
Deep fears about the war in Iraq and growing tension between the United States and Iran are driving the wealthy oil states of the Persian Gulf to go on shopping sprees for helicopters, ships and tanks, officials say. …
Helicopters and electronic warning sensors are expected to be hot sellers. For example, seaborne early warning radar can can detect rogue vessels approaching ports or oil terminals. …
In particular, the Saudi military is looking for air defenses and helicopters and perhaps naval frigates. … The Emirates’ shopping list includes ship-to-ship missiles.
States in the Gulf region which have invested little in “rearming” in the “last 15 years,” are now eager to see what others are buying and how they might “defeat those capabilities.” As one analyst said, “The shopping lists are directly correlated to the threat perception.”
Defense contractors attending the summit — including Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing — are more than happy to oblige the Arab nations’ demands. The Gulf states’ “weapons buying binge” is expected to rake in sales that will “soar past” the $2 billion in contracts offered at IDEX in 2005. According to U.S. Ambassador to the UAE, Michele Sisson, U.S. companies are expected to “clinch” a significant portion of the profits.
neato just what we need, more military hardware in the middle east.

February 20th, 2007 at 4:15 pmI wonder how many shoulder fired ground to air missles will be sold? Seems to be a hot commodity in the ME right now. So if an American company sells one to an Arab coountry and then it is used to shoot down one of our copters will they be punished and accused of aiding the terrorists like the Iranians or is it okay ’cause its only capatilism at work?

Chaos in the Gulf: Kuwait preparing for war and Shia riots in Bahrein
By Olivier Guitta
As I have been pointing out for almost a year, everybody is getting ready for war in the Gulf. Latest sign: Kuwaiti daily newspaper Al Watan believes that Kuwait and NATO will sign a bilateral agreement in March. This agreement will include only Kuwait and will not concern the other monarchies in the Gulf. It will basically allow NATO to use Kuwait as “a point of safe passage made for the armies of the Allianceâ€. In December 2006, the two parties had already signed an agreement on intelligence sharing. Kuwait thus reinforces the Western umbrella which should protect it in the event of a regional conflict involving Iran.
Another sign of Iran creating chaos: Saudi daily newspaper Al Watantells us about the second consecutive night of riots in Bahrein. The two suspects arrested admitted having been involved with about thirty other people to spread violence in Bahreïn. Several regions with Shia majority especially in the north witnessed also violence and rioting.
Knowing of Iran’s strategy to destabilize Sunni monarchies with a significant Shia minority, one should not be surprised of these latest events.

Ayatollah Nouri-Hamedani: ‘Fight the Jews and Vanquish Them so as to Hasten the Coming of the Hidden Imam’
The official Iranian news agency Fars, which is close to the conservative circles in Iran, recently published a statement by Ayatollah Hossein Nouri-Hamedani, one of the Iranian regime’s leading religious authorities, in which he advocates fighting the Jews in order to prepare the ground and to hasten the advent of the Hidden Imam, the Messiah according to Shiite belief.
It should be noted that the Fars news agency took the report off its web site several hours after its publication, and other Iranian media outlets close to the conservatives refrained from citing it.
The following is the text of Ayatollah Nouri-Hamedani’s censored statements, which appeared in identical language on two internet sites: Peykeiran, a site close to the anti-regime communist left; and Asylum-Norway, an internet site belonging to an organization that supports Iranian refugees in Norway: [1]
Prior to the Advent of the Hidden Imam, Arrogance and Colonialism Rule the World
“Fars news agency: Ayatollah Nouri-Hamedani, discussing [Shi'ite] religious texts, said: ‘One should fight the Jews and vanquish them so that the conditions for the advent of the Hidden Imam be met.’ According to the Fars news agency’s report, Ayatollah Nouri-Hamedani met with members of the Mahdaviyat Studies Institute. [2] He praised the institute’s work and demanded that the religious seminaries in Qom also do more to research religious texts and hadith concerning the Hidden Imam…
“Nouri-Hamedani said that the texts concerning the end of days are rife with allusions and hidden meanings. He asked the researchers to devote their efforts to elucidating these texts. He noted: ‘In the texts it is told that the Hidden Imam will remove the yoke of humiliation from mankind’s neck. Therefore it is clear that prior to the advent of the Hidden Imam, Arrogance [a common epithet for Western powers, especially the U.S.A.] and colonialism rule the world.’
The Jews Have Hoarded All the Wealth in One Place, and All the World are Their Slaves
“According to this religious authority, ‘at present the Jews’ policies threaten us. One should explain in the clearest terms the danger the Jews pose to the [Iranian] people and to the Muslims. Ever since Islam’s appearance, the group that expressed fierce opposition to Islam – and still acts in this fashion – were the Jews. They were involved in the Khaybar, Uhud, and Ahzab wars.’ [3] He added: ‘Already from the beginning the Jews wanted to hoard the world’s goods in [their] greed and voracity. They always worked in important professions and now they have hoarded all of the wealth in one place. And all of the world, especially America and Europe, are their slaves.’”
Crazy Ideas Such as Secularism, Liberalism, and Humanism are Part of Our Enemies’ Plans to Sow Disunity
In another statement from last year, Ayatollah Nouri-Hamedani, on the occasion of his visit to the cities of Khoramshahr and Shalamche, said: “World Arrogance [i.e., the U.S. and the Western powers] is creating a trinity of evil: heresy, divisiveness, and Zionism, in order to weaken the [Iranian] people’s spirit and to create division and disagreement with respect to our regime. [Therefore] all of the senior officials and the public must be on their guard more than ever…
“The spreading of prostitution and evil things, the creation of a mentality of inferiority, and the propagation of crazy ideas such as secularism, liberalism, and humanism are [all] part of our enemies’ plans to sow disunity in [our] society…
“The revelation of the culture of Jihad and martyrdom in the country [Iran] struck world Arrogance [i.e., the U.S. and the Western powers] with dread… The existence of such a spirit among our youth led to world Arrogance’s not daring to infringe on our borders… History shows that every people that lost the culture of Jihad and martyrdom were brought down.” [4]
[1] The speech was apparently delivered on April 14, 2005. http://web.peykeiran.com/net_iran/irnewsbody.aspx?ID=23105; http://www.asylum-norway.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=182. The speech was apparently delivered on April 14, 2005.
[2] Mahdaviyat studies are concerning the Shiite doctrine of the Hidden Imam, who is to reappear as Mahdi, i.e., the rightly guided one.
[3] These refer to famous victories of the Muslims under the leadership of Prophet Mohammad: The Battle of Khaybar took place in 628 A.D., the Battle of Uhud in 625 A.D., and the war of the Ahzab refers to the siege of Al-Madina in 627 A.D.

London-Based Syrian-Born Historian Mahmoud Al-Sayyed Al-Dugheim: Iran Established Global Shiite Government, Operating in Accordance with the Protocols of the Mullahs of Qom, to Annihilate the Sunnis
Following are excerpts from an interview with Syrian-born historian Mahmoud Al-Sayyed Al-Dugheim, which aired on Al-Jazeera TV on January 30, 2007.
Mahmoud Al-Sayyed Al-Dugheim: We consider the Zionist plan to be dangerous to the Arab nation, but even more dangerous is the Safavid, Sassanian, Iranian plan to restore the Empire of Cyrus, which would range from Greece to Egypt, and the Arabian Peninsula, in addition to other regions. The Zionist plan was unable to penetrate the ranks of Islamic unity, the way the Safavid Iranian plan did. The collaborators with the Zionists throughout the Arab and Islamic world are too ashamed to reveal themselves, while the collaborators with the Sassanian, Safavid plan boast about it in public. Wasn’t it one of their leaders who said yesterday: “We are a Lebanon in Iran, and an Iran in Lebanon”?
[...]
While the Zionist plan targets Jerusalem, which is holy to us, the Safavid plan targets Mecca and Al-Madina. If you go back to their books, which they do not mention in the media, yet these books exist and are accepted by them – they claim that their Hidden Imam will come to Mecca and Al-Madina, destroy the Al-Haram Mosque and the Mosque of the Prophet, and will dig in the graves of Abu Bakr and Omar, and burn them both, and then he will command the wind to blow them away. He will also dig in the grave of Aisha, the Mother of the Believers, and will execute her. All this is part of their plan.
[...]
The Shah was most definitely one of the sworn enemies of the Arabs, but he did not legislate a law to persecute the Sunni Muslims, who constitute one-third of the Iranian population. The new Iranian constitution persecutes Sunni Muslims in Iran, while it gives constitutional rights to the the Zoroastrians, the Jews, and the Christians. This constitution denies the Sunnis these rights. There is no Sunni mosque in Tehran, even though there are over two million Sunni Muslims there.
[...]
All these actions are part of the 50-year plan of the Protocols of the Mullahs of Qom. This plan has been published and is well known. It aims to infiltrate the Sunni Muslim countries, to annihilate them, and to sow civil strife between the ruler and his subjects, all within fifty years.
[...]
Listen to the following secret communiqué: “At the command and with the guidance of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Guide of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, and under the title ‘The Shi’a of Ali Are Victorious’, the extended conference of the world’s Shiites was held in the holy city of Qom. It was attended by the leaders of all Shiite parties and religious authorities. The conference decided that a global organization must be established to annihilate the people who are left, to examine and analyze the current regional situation, to build a military force, to infiltrate governmental institutions through the women’s organizations everywhere, and then to infiltrate intelligence agencies, and to finish off the Sunni leaders, even by assassination.” This is the plan of the Hashashin, which still exists. There is a fatwa by their imams and religious authorities, which permits the trading and planting of hashish, in order to profit and to cover up their crimes.
[...]
While the American target is economic oil, the Iranian Persian goal is to massacre the Arabs, as is evident in all their writings.

February 21st, 2007 at 1:47 pmAt last, we finally have it.. the war that created – through a ratcheting of oil prices – a massive weapons buying frenzy that is in turn quickly fueling the very likely chances of another, larger war. The Oil and Weapons organizations are in full gear here in the year 2007. The algorithm war-oil revenue- more war is nirvana for them — but deadly for the animal kingdom here on earth. There does not appear to be any way to stop this cycle.
I blame Cheney most of all. And the elder Bush as well – for god’s sake he should have taken his son aside and given him a good stiff belt across the face.
