From McClatchy’s Baghdad bureau: “The other kid that i can not forget was in Fallujah, he is laying down suffering bullets injuries and his father, mother and aunt were killed in the car behind him and he can not see them… he refused to let the ambulance take him to the hospital only if I swear to him that his family are alive… he pulled my shirt and said “don’t lie to me”.. I was looking at them all killed in front of me and he is laying down, an American sobbing soldier beside him was treating him till the ambulance arrived, and I had to swear to him that they were alive and he will find them in the hospital if he allowed the ambulance to take him, he and his one year old sister who were covered with here mother’s blood all over her body…”
As Sonny and Cher would say “And the beat goes on.” When will this stop?

Walt,
I believe Sharon (in #4) is referring to Edwin Starr’s song War from the 70’s …
Wow! What a powerful indictment of the senseless “collateral damage” Bushiva’s illegal invasion and occupation have wrought…
…I cannot imagine the psychological damage that incident had on the soldier(s) responsible for killing the family…
…the soldier treating the boy…
…but most of all the boy who lost his entire family…
…God help America because this country has a lot to answer for…
…If we’ve an OUNCE of decency and common sense…
…we’ll make DAMN SURE the criminals in the White(man’s) House are held accountable for the curse they’ve brought upon our heads…
…and make no mistake…
…what goes around DEFINITELY comes around…
February 24th, 2007 at 12:02 amGreat post big papa and Thank you, will hunt down the artest and see if it’s the one I am thinking of….I thought maybe it was a group by the same name…War….Blessings
February 24th, 2007 at 12:10 am#7 – Sharon,
February 24th, 2007 at 12:16 amI just remember the quote. I think I heard it first about 1943 or mid 1944. Our family had just returned from a two year stint in China in the US embassy in that time frame. I would have been two or three at the time. Within a short time after that, the atomic age came upon us. Mom, in a strange land, taught me to read the Bible by three.
Walt, we must be pretty close in age, I was born in 41…Just called a misic buff friend and he said that is the song and artest Edwin Stars.. Now I just have to find it on CD……Heard it again on an oldies radio station a few month’s ago…
My heart aches for the misery this administration is doing to us and the people of the world and big papa is right,” what goes around comes around”…Blessings
February 24th, 2007 at 12:23 amIs there anyway we can make the criminals of our administration take a tour of an Iraqi hospital?
Then again, would it even matter? I do not think their souls would register the suffering since they sold those to the god of profit long ago.
February 24th, 2007 at 12:44 amBush killing the children in Iraq is his greatest crime. If there is a real Hell, then someday Bush will go there with Cheney.

February 24th, 2007 at 12:48 amSo you, I and Cheney were born in the same year. What a stinking heritage!
The last count several month’s ago was 650,000 men women and children….Entire famalies and generation’s of people…..I had hoped and thought after Japan and Nam the war drum’s and bomb’s would finelly end…..How foolish my thought’s were…Some how I believed a country like our’s would never again resort to such genocide and instead would use diplomacy and love of people and our planet instead of wiping whole tribes of people off the earth because of greed and fear…Hell no, I was wrong, these crazy war monging basterd’s have devided our country and instill hatred for every one they disagree with or that have something they want….Must leave for tonight…There a rock show tomorrow in Everett and I plan to go early…May find a few rocks to throw at the reich wingers…..Blessings to us and all the people of the world…..Peace is the answer..
February 24th, 2007 at 1:02 amAny President who has the gall to send our nation’s young men and women into harm’s way should have to be Constitutionally
REQUIRED to actually visit the aftermath like that described in the very graphic headline article above IN PERSON.
For the one great big headful of headfu*ck that war is.
If ALL President’s had to do this by order of the Constitution, you can BET YOUR ASS the next Commander in Chief would THINK LONG AND HARD BEFORE making force such a heated neccessity, like a deal that get’s made in some boardroom somewhere. This war originated in a fuc*king boardroom somewhere.
But then again, this war(?) is treated just as that, a giant “boardroom” decision. The people involved in “doing the heavy lifting”(troops and we, as citizens and as a nation), as in all wars, are just to be revered as simple tools for the chicken-shit shot callers elsewhere whomever they may truly be.
February 24th, 2007 at 1:03 amWalt to out of 3 is a good sign….What month was the lunatic cheney born in…I’m a libra, how about you.? Blessings
February 24th, 2007 at 1:06 amGood post Rachael….May I add I think they should have to carry a gun and be on the front line along with the first troop’s landing…Most war’s are created by old men or fat one’s in board room’s and they like the general’s of old should be out front leading the charge….It would end this madness…..Like custer they would go down…BTW I read he was insane as well..Blessings
February 24th, 2007 at 1:18 amSharon > Custer wanted to become president of the United States. He thought a big victory over the Indians would make him a hero and give him the presidency. Custer was an arrogant fool and he led his men into an ambush and paid with his life. Bush is a fool too, but he is too wussy to ever lead men into battle. If he did he would die like Custer.
February 24th, 2007 at 1:34 amThese are real people, real kids, real moms, real dads, real families dying, in very, very large numbers, for nothing. The neocons are evil.
February 24th, 2007 at 1:37 amYep! Jay, also read some where it was suspected that custer had Syphliss(sp) of the brain and was considered to be quite mad or insane by all around him……Blessings and nite all
February 24th, 2007 at 1:46 amSharon:
Bruce Springsteen also did a cover of that song.
February 24th, 2007 at 2:03 amSharon > Custer was known to rape Indian women, and also liked prostitutes, so he probably got VD. After he was killed at Little Bighorn the Indian squaws castrated him in revenge. He was not scalped, like the rest of his soldiers, but his balls go sliced off instead. He was called “Yellow Hair” by the Indians for his long locks of yellow-blonde hair. He considered himself handsome and was very vain man. He died a fool!
February 24th, 2007 at 2:17 amThis is the twenty-first century and we are blessed with so many marvels.. electronic devices that do so much for us.. warm homes in the cold of winter, cool homes in the heat of summer. We have light in the dark, and communication wherever we go. Oh, that man would have progressed as much as machinery..
February 24th, 2007 at 2:19 amWould you not believe that mankind would have evolved into a new understanding of others, would have learned to solve conflicts with words instead of by taking innocent lives..would have climbed to a higher level? Instead, we seem to be devolving and becoming less civilized and more brutal with each passing day.
It broke my heart to read this dispatch, just as it broke my heart to read of the 19 yr old Arizona soldier who died just 2 weeks after arriving in Iraq. The children are dying, World, and we need to stop it now!
Great post Old hippie woman…..
“Imagine”….John Lennon.. Another peace activest that has passed at the hand’s of madness… Blessings
February 24th, 2007 at 3:48 amAs I’ve contemplated the whole tragedy recently, I’ve reflected on how little has come from all the shock and outrage we’ve poured forth, how frustrating it becomes to think how many times you’ve been dumbstruck by those who pile lies on top of other lies. The political gamesmanship goes on, and we who are sickened by it seem powerless to stop it. Maybe these reminders of the real human toll of this insane conflict are the only thing that will “give men pause.”
I started writing a song recently, one that seemed to come upon me of itself. I suppose it’s doggerel, to a degree, but it’s what’s on my mind and heart:
Where have all the children gone?
Were they taken far from home?
Are they lost, afraid, alone?
When are the children coming home?
Does each mother’s voice ring on
inside each one, a mournful song,
a cry to heaven? “Hear my plea!
Oh send my children home to me!”
Who will shout the voice of war
down to the depths of Hell before
a demon’s rage against the good
drowns Mother’s song in children’s blood?
And are there now no Fathers left
who are not yet of strength bereft,
Who’ll give their all, their blood and bone
to bring their precious children home?
How can we live when children die?
February 24th, 2007 at 4:08 amProbably just one of 650,000 stories to tell, all these dead people have aunts and uncles ,cousins , nephews … All in the name of Oil Theft by Bush , republican congressmen and republican supporters
where are these peoples sense of Humanity
February 24th, 2007 at 5:38 amThe mainstream media should be required by law to read reports like this each night. No, better yet, Dubya and Darth should be required to do the reading, and the 29%ers should be required to listen.
February 24th, 2007 at 7:38 amre#30 Tobey Tall
It is TRUE that Bush, Republican Congressmen, and Republican supporters are all guilty in taking part of crimes against humanity.
But the same is TRUE of the soldiers, Democrats, Independents, British, Canada, Australian, and all the countries who supported the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
But the people most guilty are the ones who drop the actual bombs and fire the shots that kill, because NOBODY can force you to commit a crime against humanity, when all you have do is REFUSE your illegal orders.
If you do not realize why your orders were illegal, it is only because you are HYPOCRITE and did not “flip the script” and imagine yourself in place of an average Afghani or Iraqi who committed no crime against the USA.
How would you soldiers like if Iraq attacked the USA because we have weapons of mass destruction, or because they wanted to change our government, or because our government commited genocide against the Native Americans?
Of course you would say that would be a crime against humanity!
You give the USA soldiers a pass on their crimes against humanity for being fooled by their leaders, but you do not give Al Qaeda soldiers that same pass for crimes against humanity when they were fooled by their leaders the same way.
You call the Al Qaeda soldiers “evil” and rejoice in their deaths, when your USA soldiers killed far more innocents.
But let someone rejoice in USA soldiers deaths which prevent them from killing more innocents, and watch the flood of criticism of that someone.
I am not a HYPOCRITE, so I am glad when ANY killer is prevented from killing more innocents!

February 24th, 2007 at 11:00 amIn the great Abel Gance’s film J’ACCUSE, the war dead rise up as shambling zombies, revenants plodding on, the WALKING DEAD, their putrefying faces and bodies showing their anguish, grief and anger at the horror of war which made them thus…CHIMPya and Torticola Cheney, Rove and Rice, Dumbsfailed and Wolfowitz, Gonzales, Addington, Yoo, Perle, Feith, Gaffney, Hanson, Kristol, Blankley, Malkin, Coulter-geist, Morgan, Limburger, O’LIElly, Drudge, Savage, AD NAUSEUM, all neocon CONmen, Bushland Uber Allies and repugnant-repubs supporting CHIMPya should be set upon by the perambulating liches of the innocent Iraqi dead and TORN TO SHREDS by skeletal and mummified rotting hands, the worthless Bush & Co. carcases tossed into the offal pit to be devoured by The Conquerer Worm!!!!!
February 24th, 2007 at 1:33 pm#4 Sharon. That is indeed a song. It hit its peak of popularity in the early 70’s when Vietnam was going strong. The name of the group in quesion who performed it is none other than “WAR”
February 24th, 2007 at 3:07 pmBig Papa, after some searching I have found that the artist was indeed Edwin Starr. I stand corrected.
