Michelle Malkin to co-host new Fox show.

By Nico Pitney on Feb 23rd, 2007 at 12:09 pm

Michelle Malkin to co-host new Fox show.

“Fox News Channel is testing another pilot on Sunday that will air following its experiment in news satire, ‘The ½ Hour News Hour.’ ‘It’s Out There,’ a half-hour of stories derived from blogs, will get a half-hour test run following Joel Surnow’s satirical take on news. [The show], fronted by conservative blogger-columnist Michele Malkin and former Clinton administration operative Kirsten Powers, will take on political and cultural issues enflaming the blogosphere.”

Should be an outstanding program, Malkin is great.

  2. RUCerious says:

    This ought to be interesting.
I wonder if I can get the spittle wiping up contract?

  3. Zooey says:

    Can’t wait! Can’t wait!

I’ve got to get my TV back….

    No, on second thought…..no.

  4. tom baker says:

woo-hoo – love the smell of Fox Desperation in the morning….where will they find the next anchor(no pun) to hang around their neck?? Glad I’m not in a board room with Rupert and Roger these days.

  5. ForTruth says:

Is this an attempt to distract the truth from bloggers?

I say we ignore it all.

  6. Patrick1 says:

woo-hoo – love the smell of Fox Desperation in the morning

Could be worse, they could have Olbermann’s ratings.

  7. Raven says:

    ….farewell, friends….

  8. Punchy says:

Wait…a show on Fox featuring some bombastic righty and a well-spoken but token lefty….nah….they’ve NEVER done that before, have they?

    Signed,
    Hannity

  9. AshenShard says:

haha, i guess they are hoping to pull in viewers to this show from their ‘comedy’ show? hahahahaha. Even though both shows are only a half-hour, I hope they run the laugh track for the full hour.

  10. TripMaster Monkey says:

Joy…one more reason to hate FOX…as if any more reasons were necessary…

  11. Tom says:

We’ll just have to be content with second-string losers like Malkin, Coulter, et. al., until GDumbya leaves office. After that, FoxSnooze will be able to recruit the real losers to host their lousy shows.

You know . . . shows like “Chatting with Cheney”, “Ranting with Rice” and “Babbling with Bu$h”. That’ll be a real ratings bonanza for ‘em!

  12. wake-n-bake says:

We’re having a huge effect on Fox and the Wingnuts. They can no longer simply ignore or defame the left bloggers, they must structure their format around confronting us!

That’s just the tip of the iceberg of the power of Netroots.

    More to come.

  13. Dumb_Fox says:

As my name implies, I’m no fan of the network.

But this program, I have to say, seems like a reasonable idea… and depending on what topics they cover, perhaps even okay for a news channel. If nothing else there’s a ready blogosphere audience who’ll be interested to have their favorite blog on teevee.

Of course Fox has to screw it up by ridiculously skewing the balance (Miss Internment, balanced out by someone who doesn’t even blog as far as I know), but the basis of the show seems okay. Personally, would vote to have Atrios as the guest host, but as the kind of guy who will rip the right to shreds, can’t see Fox extending the invitation.

  16. AshenShard says:

    #11 Tom

Actually, I think Bush will be hosting more of a kids show, you know, “Story Time with Bush”, and for his first show he can do a dramatic reading of My Pet Goat.

  17. wake-n-bake says:

Could be worse, they could have Olbermann’s ratings.
    Comment by Patrick1

Some of us prefer substance over style.

    Credibility v. popularity.

    I’ll choose credibility evertime.

  18. hil says:

why is a “news” network attemptign to compete with comedy central? Its amazing how threatened they are

    haha Stewart/ Colbert ‘08

  19. Bluedog49 says:

I believe Olberman’s ratings have been going consistently up. Something like a 50% rise over the last year. During that time, I think Fox’s ratings have fallen by 40 to 60%. Olberman has obviously touched a nerve and people are growing weary of Fox’s b.S.

  20. tom baker says:

It’s the trendline that’s important Patty – If you’re not familiar with graphs. Fox’s line is pointing down and toward the bottom-right corner of the graph, and in graphspeak, that’s “bad”. Olberman’s line, on the other hand, is pointing up, toward the Upper-right corner of the graph, and that means “good”.

Next time, we’ll discuss the negative axes, in our continuing examination of “How the Cartesian Coordinate System Works”

  21. Jay Randal says:

FOX hates Americans, because Malkin is a hatemonger and a fascist!

  22. Bluedog49 says:

The other Fox show began it’s first pilot episode with about 1 million viewers. By the 27th minute, it was down to about 330,000 viewers. Almost 700,000 viewers turned it off before it was over. This is not a good sign for the folks at Fox.

    GIT ER DONE FOX !!!!

  25. Zandar says:

So it’s Hannity and Colmes, only in this format we have Malkin spewing venom and Powers biting her lip. Yeah, fair and balanced.

  26. stanman says:

I don’t understand why people are upset about a political news satire being aired on a news channel. Haven’t political cartoons been in newspapers for quite awhile? Nobody talks about newspapers credibility being hurt from the cartoons. How is this different?

  27. Bluedog49 says:

JO w.v.: “when did the right to freedom of speech get banned????
    GIT ER DONE FOX !!!!”

Yes JO, this will be a perfect show for you! And don’t worry, there’s no talk of it being “banned.” Funny though. When Michael Moore’s “Farenheit 911″ was banned from broadcast television, I didn’t hear any of you arguing for freedom of speech.

  28. pluky says:

Ignoring bad taste in ethnic descriptors, I think Ms. Malkin is actually phillipina.

  29. Bluedog49 says:

Stanman, I don’t sense that people are upset about this. What people are saying is that it’s pathetic that a news channel feels compelled to produce an answer to a Comedy Central Show.

  30. Bluedog49 says:

What Ms. Malkin is is a fascist, plain and simple.

  31. Democrat Soldier says:

This show is a travesty of a sham of a mockery.

    It’s a trave-sham-ockery. (No making up words!)

I forced myself to watch the first installment, and it’s just sad. I mean REALLY sad. The laugh track they use, you can almost hear the tape recorder click on and off, it’s just so sad.

With the rise of the progressive shows ratings, like Keith Olberman’s, I’m quite sure that Fox will try to keep this abortion limping along in an attempt to put a crutch under their falling ratings.

Prepare yourself for at least a few more painfully un-funny eposides with no point. When they realize what a bomb it is, I’m sure the DHS will de-fuse it before it hurts anyone else.

  32. klyde says:

I don’t see powers biting her lip for jesse’s puppet., she’s to ambitous. I watched her nearly make coulter cry when she was sitting in for that milquetoast colmes.

  33. miguel says:

Have you ever noticed how Malkin looks like a stunned deer looking into FoxNews headlights?

  34. AshenShard says:

    #28 pluky

If that is true, then that may explain why she has no problem, in retrospect, with US policy to intern Japanese/Japanese-Americans during WWII.

BTW, anyone who denies that their was any racial element is full of crap, since Americans of German or Italian decent weren’t targeted to the same extent as Japanese-Americans.

  35. Democrat Soldier says:

If Michelle Malkin were Jewish, I’m sure she’d be apologizing for the Jews taking up so much space in the ovens in the 40’s.

  36. tom baker says:

leave it to righties to pussy up once they’re invited to taste their own medicine. sheesh.

  37. stanman says:

Bluedog, but how is it any different than a newspaper running political sastire in the form of cartoons.

  38. 20wordsorless says:

I hadn’t seen the show, but if it has you lefties up in arms it might be worth watching.

  39. DRxJ says:

    who is this Michelle Malkin?
She sounds like a castaway from a recent Survivor.

  40. RUCerious says:

#39 DrxJ ~ Fox’s answer to Minnie Mouse, except she’s a rabid right wing rat…

  41. Gregor Samsa says:

Any show hosted by Michelle Malkin is, in itself, satire.

  42. muckdog says:

Congratulations to Michelle. She is educated, articulate, and will make a great addition to the Fox line-up.

For ratings on cable news channels, check this out.

  43. Bluedog49 says:

Stanman, I see your point. The only way it’s different is that in a newspaper, editorial cartoons are not usually printed in the news section. But, my sense is that this isn’t about that. Fox News is a news station. Comedy Central is a comedy station. That a nationally syndicated news network feels it must compete ideologically with a show from a comedy station is what I think the issue is here.

And, 20words, no need to get hysterical about this. I don’t see any lefties “up in arms” about this. We’re just commenting on how lame and pathetic it is. As I posted, close to 700,000 viewers who began watching the “Half-hour News Hour” turned it off by the 27th minute before the show was over. What that says to me is that the show is not funny to most people. Personally, I’m all for Murdock doing whatever he wants with his network. I hope he sinks millions of dollars into these two turds before he realizes that conservatives are just not that funny.

  44. jjohnson says:

I thought Malkin was a member of the pajamas media empire. Why is she abandoning her pals in the new paradigm to host a mainstream media show?

  45. stanman says:

Bluedog-I agree that competing with a comedy station does not help their image. However, I can’t help but think about the newspapers. While they don’t run the cartoons on the front page-Fox News is not going to be mixing this with their newscasts. It will be seperated from the regular news. I also think that there is a sad trend that many people in this country get all their news from shows like the Daily Show and alike. Obviously this is all about ratings and trying to make money…which is in essense what all news stations and outlets try to do.

  46. stanman says:

I hope he sinks millions of dollars into these two turds before he realizes that conservatives are just not that funny.

A bit of an over-generalization—don’t you think?

  47. Parrotlover77 says:

why is a “news” network attemptign to compete with comedy central? Its amazing how threatened they are

That’s exactly what’s so weird about this.

I thought it was weird when SciFi started showing ECW rasslin’ but I guess you can make the stretch of “fantasy/ science fiction” to the larger than life rasslers, but fiction (in any form) is so wildly out of scope with a news channel format it’s really doing viewers a disservice. Not that the laugh track wouldn’t give it away, but some with a lesser clue might actually believe a skit a la Orsen Wells’ “War of the Worlds.”

I wonder why Fox doesn’t use its broadcast network or other cable channels, like FX, to do this venture?

    Very strange…

  48. Parrotlover77 says:

I also think that there is a sad trend that many people in this country get all their news from shows like the Daily Show and alike.

That may be true, but many times I find I can see more “truth” in a Daily Show skit than I can on anything on Fox News or even many broadcast news segments.

THAT’s what I find the MOST sad trend.

  49. klyde says:

How is this different? It’s not Faux News channel for nothing.

  50. Bluedog49 says:

Stanman: “I also think that there is a sad trend that many people in this country get all their news from shows like the Daily Show and alike.”

I think the sad part is that people feel so let down by their mainstream media that the satire on The Daily Show touches a nerve. People see and hear things on the Daily Show that the media doesn’t want to touch. And, I agree that my feelings on conservative comedy are a generalization, but really, how many funny conservatives can you name. It’s all subjective, but after Drew Carey and maybe Dennis Miller, who have you got? And, those guys just aren’t that funny anyway. I’ve pointed this out until I’m blue in the face: speaking TO power is often funny. Speaking FOR power is almost never funny. It’s often just more of that “kiss-up, kick-down” mean-spirited dismissal of dissent and disagreement. Hey, we’ll see. Maybe Malkin and the other show will be a huge success. My guess is no.

  51. Parrotlover77 says:

And, I agree that my feelings on conservative comedy are a generalization, but really, how many funny conservatives can you name. It’s all subjective, but after Drew Carey and maybe Dennis Miller, who have you got?

Why, the comedy stylings of Larry the “Git R Done” Cable Guy, of course!

What the hell does “Git R Done” mean anyway?

  52. Raymond Funamoto says:

Malkin’s programme will be titled “HEY JOE YOU GOT CHEWING GUM” or “ANYTHING YOU WANT–TWO BITS!” Perfect title for a two-bit rightwingnut whore who panders to the ultra-rightie repugnant-repubs with her vile infantile jingoistic demagogue chatter! Malkin will soon be flushed down the toilet of public opinion alongside fellow turds Rush Limburger, Ann Coulter-geist, Melanie Morgan, Victor Davis Hanson(a particularily NASTY piece of Cheney-kissing offal), Frank Gaffney, Bill O’LIElly, Matt Drudge, et cetera AD NAUSEUM! Roger Ailes, that tub of lard, is REALLY SCRAPING the bottom of the garbage barrel to put Malkin on!!!!!

  53. Bluedog49 says:

“What the hell does “Git R Done” mean anyway?”

    It’s a celebration of stupidity.

  54. SAP says:

Only half an hour for Michelle?

I can dig that. After all, how many slides of the Green Zone could she have brought back from her trip to Iraq?

  55. Larry from C says:

The strategy of the neo-cons is to compete in every media outlet. If the progressives/independents have a comedy show then so will they. Of course it’ll fall flat on its face because Nazis aren’t funny (excluding Hogan’s Heroes).

The neo-cons don’t want any progressive/independent media outlet to go unchallenged. That’s why you see so many trolls here. Its all part of the same philosophy.

  56. Bluedog49 says:

And yet, Larry, the “challenges” are always so damn weak. It’s almost as if they don’t really have a philosophy except any idea which enhances corporate power.

Michael have you been in suspended animation for a few years? There were no WMD’s and no connections to al Qaeda or the 9-11 attack. There were no drones capable of delivering WMD’s to the east coast. There were no plans to attack the U.S. There was no support of al Qaeda training camps and no money for them. There was no real threat to neighbors, let alone the territorial U.S. And, as history has shown us, the Iraqi people were not and are not clamoring for a western-style democracy. But, you know this already. Your goal is to be obtuse and annoying. You’ve accomplished your goal.

And no one wanted to pick up the fireball. That is not BANNING it. That is CHOOSING not to show it. don’t the networks have that right? Does Larry King (who I can not stand) not have the right to determine what guests he has? See, it is a business decision. To imply it was banned would imply that the government had passed a law saying it couldn’t be shown in public.

But since you can not even remotely PROVE it, you go into hysterics.

And, Bob, I’m not surprised that you don’t like him, but what exactly has he been wrong about? Half the crowd was booing him when he accepted his oscar because he asserted that the reasons we invaded Iraq were “fiction.” He was right.

I do not like his style or his tactics. I do not like how he misrepresents his intentions. Do I have the right not to like him?

Kirsten Powers is exactly the type of loser Dem that Fox loves..the kind that agrees with the Republicans that the Dems are bad, bad, bad over every false outrage the GOP wingnuts scream about..female Colmes. Fox sucks.

Malkin is so shrill I don’t know how even right wingers would want to watch her. The eye rolling, the sarcastic snottiness dripping with hatred…she’s absolutely vile.

  100. ballbuster says:
