CNN: Libby juror exposed to outside information.

Just now on CNN:

[UPDATE: AP is reporting that the judge has dismissed the juror, but that there will not be a mistrial. Firedoglake is live-blogging from the courthouse.]

libbyjuror.JPG

CNN: We are learning that all the parties in the Scooter Libby trial have been summoned to the courtroom. We want to get to Brian Todd now for the latest. I know you are outside that courtroom. Why are they being asked to come inside? Do they have a verdict now?

BRIAN TODD: They don’t have a verdict. We were just in the courtroom a moment ago and the judge informed all of us that one of the jurors has been exposed to information about the case outside the courtroom. The judge said he had to talk to the jury foreperson and that is what he is doing right now. As soon as he told us that, he said he had to talk to the jury foreperson to determine the extent of that information that that juror got outside the courtroom. So we’re just waiting to hear whether this is a tainted juror, whether it may not be that serious. He’s also trying to determine whether other jurors may have been exposed as a result of this one juror being exposed. So we’re playing a waiting game right now, we don’t want to get into speculation what it could mean for the case but a very serious development.

Why wasn’t the jury sequestered? Exposed to the media, will that juror need therapy now?

  2. wake-n-bake says:

Hmm, must be a Repuke juror aiming for a mistrial.

  3. mparker says:

This better not be that POST reporter!

  4. JPV says:

Gee… I wonder how much this Juror was paid by the White House.

  5. Kryptik says:

    Mistrial ho, it seems.

    This feels utterly too convenient.

  6. katy says:

well, it can’t be cheney, he’s out of the country…

    this smells real bad…

  7. 20wordsorless says:

That juror must have received threats from the left to hand down a guilty verdict. After all—there’s been so much hope riding on it.

  8. ForTruth says:

“outside information” = message from Cheney.

because of the current administration, whom does this surprise?

Ummm, just out of curiousity 20words, who benefits the most from a mistrial?
    The left or the right?

Take your time in not responding!

  12. Com-n-sense says:

Ah, Christ … you knew it was coming. Is there anything that this administration touches that can be won fairly?

  13. Peter says:

So, “tainted” justice for the Bush Administration – what a surprise!

    sarchasm off/

  14. Newt Gingrich says:

Tonight on Hannity and colmes, the juror who saved Libby for a few more months from the Liberal attack machine…that was appointed by bush and ashcroft.
I can stand to see the Bush admin squirm a little more. maybe scooter will throw someone under the bus now (like cheney)

  15. PhilSimms says:

“U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton has ordered jurors to avoid contact with media coverage of former White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby’s monthlong trial. He said Monday that one juror was exposed to information about the trial over the weekend.”

See…they should have been watching nothing but FOX News…you sure as hell won’t see anything about the Libby trial on there.

  16. MiMi says:

Hmmmmmm….I bet it was accidentally on purpose!

  17. VerbalKint says:

Interference from Cheney or Rove? Probably. But I think that this judge will do everything possible to avoid a mistrial. Aren’t there alternate jurors to turn to in a situation like this?

My concern is a hung jury. It will take only one 30 percenter to do it.

  18. Zooey says:

This jury should have been sequestered.

Fitz will try it again, if he has to.

  19. Com-n-sense says:

20wordsofbull – your name certainly fits your post.

You either meant “right” instead of “left”, otherwise your comment is ludicrous.

  20. MiMi says:

    Hmmmmmmmm,I bet acidentally on purpose!

  21. Tom says:

I don’t think there will be much to this story. As I understand it, the tainted juror saw the outside “information” on FoxSnooze and — as we all know — there’s not much true information to be found in that cesspool.

  22. Scooter says:

    Phil Simms,

Thats the truth, They would know all about every aspect of Anna Nicoles death and Brittany’s rehab crap. But not one second on any real issues that face our country today on Faux.

  23. AkaDad says:

Did the Washington Post, by publishing Victoria Toensings smear on Fitzgerald, end up tainting this jurist?

    Comment by Tom

    That’s true.

I always wonder why people on a jury turn on the television or buy the newspaper — they know they’re not supposed to do it. Maybe they like getting grilled by the Judge.

  26. nofltwlt says:

Another WH leak involving Cheney and Libby?

  27. Sharon says:

Good Morning Lady Zooey and Master Juan C….I’m thinking this is just one more little trick in the bull shit bush dog and pony show….As you alway’s say Z…SSDD,,,,Blessings

  28. Zooey says:

I wonder what else is going on in the world that the MSM is not reporting because of this….

  29. Tim O says:

Of Course the Jury is tainted!
What did you guys think would happen?
Toensing tried to do it, and I’m sure there was a concerted effort to screw this up.

It’s like trying to convict Tony Soprano!

  30. katy says:

    check out the latest http://firedoglake.com/

    one juror has been dismissed…

  31. katy says:

Walton: The law does now allow you to continue your deliberations with 11 jururs, so that’s what I’m going to do. Let me just ask if all of you have kept yourself isolated from any information about this case — if that is so, raise your hand. Okay, everybody raised their hand saying they have not had any outside information, and I ask that you continue to do that. It is imperative — you must decide this case based only on what you heard in this courtroom. With that I ask that you go back and proceed with your deliberations. Thank you.
    http://firedoglake.com/

  32. Zooey says:

So the juror is dismissed. Good.

Now, will the MSM be able to focus on any other news today? Probably not.

  33. CoffinsDrapedWithFlags says:

If the juror is dismissed and the judge believes that other juror’s were tainted, does this mean a mistrial?

  34. CoffinsDrapedWithFlags says:

A mistrial wouldn’t be good news for either party because now there is public information available that wasn’t there before the Libby trial, such as, Cheney’s and Rove’s involvement.

  35. CoffinsDrapedWithFlags says:

Does a mistrial mean that Scooter wants another opportunity to make a deal with the prosecution?

  36. RandyBastard says:

So, Judge Walton sits down with the jury foreman to determine what information the other juror heard?

Sounds to me like the forman has been tainted too.

  37. CoffinsDrapedWithFlags says:

So it was the juror that wouldn’t wear red on Valentine’s Day that got dismissed. This juror wasn’t serious anyway. She never connected with her peers.

  38. Zooey says:

Sounds to me like the forman has been tainted too.
    Comment by RandyBastard

Fortunately, the Judge has been trained to deal with these situations. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be allowed to greet the jurors, tell them what the hell they’re supposed to be doing, or give them their instructions.

I hope you were being sarcastic.

  39. katy says:

The juror who was dismissed was the art curator who wouldn’t wear red on Valentine’s day. Wells is reportedly quite happy with the results, and we hear Mr. Fitzgerald came as close to losing that poker face as he has — he was evidently quite pissed.
    http://firedoglake.com/

check out that link there, the story about the red shirt…

  40. Juan C says:

Hey, Sharon. Nice reading you. :)

  41. katy says:

  43. katy says:

    sorry about the double post…
damnit TP… this posting delay is most annoying…

  44. ForTruth says:

Sure Katy, Uh huh. You are double posting on purpose cuz it was your birthday.

    /sarcasm

  45. Sharon says:

    Back at ya Juan C…Blessings

  46. DMom says:

The fact that the jury was not sequestered, makes me wonder if this was planned… a little to convient for me~! How are they going to prevent it this weekend?

  47. Parrotlover77 says:

    Cheney’s plant was discovered!

As much of a conspiracy theorist as I am… I hope this is just a case of a juror accidently seeing a headline he/she should not have and a judge being very cautious so the verdict cannot be overturned on appeals from this incident.

  48. Raymond Funamoto says:

If this results in a HUNG jury, will more jurors EXPOSE THEMSELVES to show HOW “WELL-HUNG” they ARE? HAH!

  49. ballbuster says:

Oh, when will this circus end? I figured since Algore was elected president last night that Fitzgerald would get the ok to call this whole charade off.

Isn’t it curious that Fitz knew all along that the leaker wasn’t Rove?

Once again, you guys have been had.

You know, if I could market a Tony Robbins type dvd series on self help and common sense, and market it to all the moonbats on the left…not only could I be rich, but think of all the HOT AIR I would be sparing the ozone layer.

zooey, you gotta love that idea. It could equal another billion years for our planet.
