Condi Rice on revoking the 2002 Iraq authorization:
“It would be like saying that after Adolf Hitler was overthrown, we needed to change then, the resolution that allowed the United States to do that, so that we could deal with creating a stable environment in Europe after he was overthrown.” Keith Olbermann has promised a special comment tonight on Rice’s statement.

The implication here is that the 2002 resolution to use military force in Iraq was for the purpose of overthrowing Saddam Hussein. But if that's the case, the purpose of the resolution was to commit an international war crime. It is against the U.N. Charter (and, so far, the United States is still a member of the U.N.) to start a war for the purpose of regime change. No exceptions.
Condi is getting dangerously close to admitting we went to war for the purpose of regime change. War Crimes charges have already been filed in Germany against Rumsfeld. It doesn't take too much of a stretch to figure that there are some in Germany ready to file charges against other members of the Bush Administration as soon as they leave office.

I loved when KO pointed out that Congress did exactly that following Hitler's defeat. It is called the Marshall Plan, name after the then Secretary of State. Rice must be upset that the current plan doesn't carry her name. I don't know how else to explain it.

They were speaking of pulling out of Iraq and she expressed that "pulling out" "running" from Iraq after Saddam was dead would be the same if you imagined we were pulling out of Europe after Hitler died, suicide, assasinated instead of remaining.

Look, the bi-partisan comission and several hearings started to explore a plan for post war stabilization.
This approach was whole-sale ignored by the chimp and his evil master.
Instead they opt for a continued approach that neither has the numbers to control and squelch the violence, nor supports formation of relationships that would tend toward stability.
The continued approach is to target, in turn, Sunni and then Shia "insurgents", undercut the current sham of a Govt., hype imagined stories about the fictional "Al Quaeda in Iraq", and to undercut any probability of a stable economy or sustained, secure government.
Yes, it is well past time to discuss a post war Iraq stabilization (or at least post fall of any cohesive government).
The past election was the impetus for such a discussion, but not enough Senators were kicked the hell out to scare all the Emperor's men. Still brazenly thumbing their noses, not only at Congress and the American People, but at the laws of Nature.
Well, Congress are wimps and the American people don't have another chance to voice until 2008.....but Physics and human nature will bite back at the half-hearted current approach.

In it he says something that would never occur to this administration: "[I]t is imperative that these matters be dealt with continuously if the Government structure is to be reasonably wieldy and manageable, and be responsive to proper direction by the Congress and the President on behalf of the people of this country. The question is one that goes directly to the adequacy and effectiveness of our Government as an instrument of democracy."

This administration is so f@#ing insane. They are just trying anything imaginable to keep the last wheel from falling off before they can attack Iran and thereby pave the way to further impose a militaristic, corporate authoritarian state. (Not to mention trashing every possible remaining bit of civil society in the process as well.) They don't even pretend to make sense and most in the media and in politics refuse to put up any real resistance. Keith Olberman is a very welcome exception to the norm and I am very grateful for what he does.

Perhaps Olbermann would have liked her speech better if she had compared our troops to the Nazis like Dick Turbin did or Robert Byrd comparing the Republicans to the Nazis.
Olbermann is very good at displaying the lefts well known selective outrage. For example his giving a nazi salute at a meeting while wearing an O'Reilly mask, the guy is a clown, no wonder no one takes the old sportscaster seriously except for a few loons on here.

You did not address that Rice's comments were utterly nonsensical, let alone with no basis in historical fact. Just because someone has a piece of paper that says they're a Ph.D. doesn't mean they are infalible, intelligent, or that every word out of their mouth is accurate. She said something stupid. If she was really smart, she'd own up to it and regain some of the respect and credibility she used to have.
