Fox News staffers in Iraq issued gas masks.
Clarissa Ward from Fox News blogs: “There have been three attacks in the last month involving the use of chlorine gas. In high concentrations, chlorine mixes with moisture in your eyeballs and respiratory tracts, and forms a pungent acid that then eats away at the tissue. Not a nice way to go. The first thing to do if you see a yellow/green cloud of gas, or if people around you are choking, is to stop breathing immediately and then run to your mask. The masks are intensely claustrophobic and very fiddly to get on and off. I kept pulling chunks of my hair out and I never managed to hold my breath before the mask was secured. That’s A LIE.
The attacks, so far as a review of non-US coverage shows, have been bombs placed on LIQUID chlorine tanker trucks.
As I posted last week:
AP is touting three chlorine –gas– explosions, when the first two, on Jan 28 and Feb 20 are described in the non-US press as chlorine tankers (liquid). Then we were told that the military found a chlorine gas cannister bomb factory. What a coincidence!
An Iraqi general was quoted as saying that the “terrorists” are using “dirty means.”
Since the US nukes policy now allows attacks on anyone threatening or using WMD, the exaggeration of these attacks as involving chlorine gas (which has a far greater dispersal range than blown up liquid chlorine, one presumes) is a justification for, say, the nuclear bombing of some Al-Fallujah to come.
Or, if a direct linkage to Iran can be found, it is sufficient characterization to arguably support the use of nukes against Iran.
The AP is at least partly in the employ of Bushco, that’s fairly clear. The conflation of these bombings as if all three bombings have involved chlorine gas (when only one did) is a troublesome bit of propagandizing that bears watching.

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Feb. 20 (UPI) — A booby-trapped chlorine tanker truck exploded in a town north of Baghdad on Tuesday, killing at least two people and injuring 148 others.
The blast occurred outside a restaurant in Taji, about 12 miles north of Baghdad, Interior Ministry officials said. Many of the injured suffered lung injuries from the chlorine, which causes a spontaneous secretion of mucous in the lungs and difficulty breathing.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) — A cloud of deadly toxic gas engulfed an Iraqi town Tuesday, killing six people and leaving dozens of others choking on fumes after a tanker carrying chlorine exploded outside a restaurant.
An Iraqi Interior Ministry official said the blast in the town of Taji, 12 miles (20 km) north of Baghdad, was caused by a bomb on board the tanker.
There were contrasting figures on the casualty toll. Baghdad security plan spokesman Gen. Qassim Atta told state-run al-Iraqiya TV that five people died in the blast and 148 were poisoned by the gas.

Note that a deadly cloud of chlorine GAS “engulfing the town” (with something like 100,000 residents) would kill thousands of people, not SIX.

Note that news reports fail to mention Camp Taji, the US base, which was the probable target of such an attack — NOT the civilian population per se. If you are unclear about it, you can mix drain cleaner with acid and kill your whole family. THIS IS NOT NEWS. Neither is blowing up chlorine trucks a great danger to the public, as the handful of fatalities were from the EXPLOSION, and the chlorine-inhalation cases were quickly released from hospital.

Nonsense. The Sunni chlorine bomb that blew up in Taji was at a Shia restaurant. If you think that was a coincidence or an attack on US forces (which, given the presence of Camp Taji isn’t entirely a crazy idea), consider the name of the restaurant.
