Clarissa Ward from Fox News blogs: “There have been three attacks in the last month involving the use of chlorine gas. In high concentrations, chlorine mixes with moisture in your eyeballs and respiratory tracts, and forms a pungent acid that then eats away at the tissue. Not a nice way to go. The first thing to do if you see a yellow/green cloud of gas, or if people around you are choking, is to stop breathing immediately and then run to your mask. The masks are intensely claustrophobic and very fiddly to get on and off. I kept pulling chunks of my hair out and I never managed to hold my breath before the mask was secured. I am hoping that I will get better with some practice.” (HT: IraqSlogger)

Now if we can just get Falafil & Insannity over there…
February 26th, 2007 at 2:31 pmBreathe deep idiot.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:34 pmIssuing your reports gas masks is a sign of success right?
February 26th, 2007 at 2:34 pmPatrickl says : gas attacks are sure sign of success.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:35 pmthis means we’re winning right?
February 26th, 2007 at 2:36 pmthey should issue those for the Oval Office.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:38 pmThe Freepers are surely thanking their lordnsavior for this — we’ve found the WMD!
February 26th, 2007 at 2:39 pmGas masks are hard to put on quickly and create that seal with long hair. She better shave her head.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:39 pmFinally, someone is reporting the good news in Iraq!
February 26th, 2007 at 2:39 pmWouldn’t it be appropriate for all of Hannity’s and O’Reilly’s progressive guests showed up wearing gas masks to be interviewed? I mean, the fumes from these Faux News spinsters has to be toxic.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:41 pmBeat me to it Luis. Shave for Freedom!!!!
February 26th, 2007 at 2:42 pmThis will get Fox’s bedwetting audience (Roger, Patrick) excited.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:45 pmThis must be one of those “feel good”, “reporting the success in Iraq” stories that Faux News personalities keep bitching the MSM never covers?? ;) I get it now….things are going swimingly over there I see.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:50 pmWahappen? Mann Coulter open her legs?
February 26th, 2007 at 2:51 pmAt least FOX reporters do get the equipment they need, even if the actual soldiers do not.
February 26th, 2007 at 3:04 pmWell since we know Faux News is the mouth of the White House, perhaps this is a good heads up for other people over in Iraq.
Hell for us here, I would not put it past “Canned Hunter” Cheney to order gassing his own people.
February 26th, 2007 at 3:04 pmShe can use it to cover the next WTO meeting, to be held in the new Baghdad Convention Center, since things are going so well over there.
February 26th, 2007 at 3:09 pmNice…..really cute. I mean that. :-D
February 26th, 2007 at 3:11 pmIt is a start. Next we need to get them to wear Burkas.
February 26th, 2007 at 3:17 pmDoes it help with the enriched uranium munition tips that we use……er…..uh….nevermind.
February 26th, 2007 at 3:19 pmWhere is the report on Fox News reporters being issued gas masks in Philadelphia and Washington D.C.? I’ve heard that it’s worse there than in Baghdad.
February 26th, 2007 at 3:22 pmGet your latest accent atire here, compliment’s of dead eyed rice, bush’s shoe and accessory provider….Blessings
February 26th, 2007 at 3:26 pmFunny, but I wear one of those gas-masks when watching Fox Noise Channel.
I also would spray Febreze on any chair that Roger Ailes has sat upon.

February 26th, 2007 at 3:28 pmChlorine gas is very heavy and settles in ditches and such… if exposed, in addition to your mask, get to high ground… 2nd floor, hilltop, ceiling, whatever.
February 26th, 2007 at 3:32 pm“The masks are intensely claustrophobic and very fiddly to get on and off”
So is a coffin you twit. Any word on whether our soldiers (you know, the people who are actually needed in Iraq) have the advantage of a gas mask?

February 26th, 2007 at 3:40 pmThat scarf really works to pull her whole ensemble together. Heh.
February 26th, 2007 at 3:43 pmInterestingly, Ms. Ward (pictured above) later had to do a live on-air report on Fox News. She had to keep the gas mask on throughout the report because of the dangers of chlorine gas. The subject of the report, “Anna Nicole Smith: America’s Princess Diana.”

Funny… can we include the frat boy and the shooter?
February 26th, 2007 at 3:45 pmthe very idea of a newsie putting something on to hide their faces is absurd. their stock is their face. they have to be seen. their heads are overly large because that is what newsors hire. have to have someone that fills the screen, it is a pre requisite.
February 26th, 2007 at 3:45 pmthey would rather suck nukuler dust than have their faces hidden. this is the last time you will see one with a mask unless they are doing a hold up.
Damn – this must be the WMD’s we were looking for when we invaded Iraq. How did we miss these?
February 26th, 2007 at 3:45 pmThe non-native Iraqi reporters do not leave the Green Zone. Does this mean that the insurgents are lobbing cholorine gas bombs over the wall?
February 26th, 2007 at 3:50 pmCoffins I’m in agreement with you #31…One way ticket’s on air force one for all of them…Oh we are so sorry we just ran out of mask’s mr. president and no you can’t have a gun president over the other president, sorry ms. rice you can’t take those spike heels on the plane and we lost your mask as well….What would they do.? Barf bags and diapers furnished to the administration…..Blessings all
February 26th, 2007 at 3:59 pmThis is just another Fox stunt to scare people…
February 26th, 2007 at 4:11 pm“I am hoping that I will get better with some practice.â€
That’ right, keep supporting the President who is trying to kill us all. You’ ll get all the practice you can handle in due time you FoxNews worm.
But you are too blind to see that the best thing to do is just get the Fu*ck out of Iraq. But then that wouldn’t make for very good ratings now would it.
February 26th, 2007 at 4:13 pmI don’t like the mauve scarf Zooey, I’m more the bright red, purple or both type….Mauve is so passe and no pop, what do you realy think.?/….Blessings
February 26th, 2007 at 4:15 pmI wonder if its still possible for Faux Noise Network folks to spew lies through the gas masks? If so, there’s not been any improvement. If so, it might be just the thing for the entire cabal.

“I wonder if its still possible for Faux Noise Network folks to spew lies through the gas masks?”
Certainly possible. It’s a gas mask, not a BS filter.

February 26th, 2007 at 5:15 pmthat’s funny, but chlorine gas is not as toxic as fox news.
February 26th, 2007 at 5:46 pmWhat is this?
Why is FoxNews talking about gas masks and chlorine attacks instead of helping in the war effort by reporting the good news out of Iraq?
That treasonous liberal media…
/sarcasm off
February 26th, 2007 at 5:51 pmIf you’re in a cloud of chlorine gas, a mask won’t save you from horrific damage. Consider your other unprotected orifices, as well as skin, underneath fingernails, etc. Not pretty.
February 26th, 2007 at 6:33 pmThey must have had CHIMPya and Torticola Cheney in their studios–the poison gas from their anuses and mouths is positively FATAL, especially the farts from CHIMPya!!!!!

Possibly one of the greatest quotes of the “New American Century Doctrine”
“Stop breathing and Run!”
and of course this time honored classic:
“Duct Tape and Plastic”
February 26th, 2007 at 7:48 pmAnything else to say sir?
“Stop Breathimg and Run!”
Only a “Bush Administration” could bring us these quotes that seem so far away and foreign to the US and her citizens.
February 26th, 2007 at 7:50 pmLate getting back on site, Sorry, Zooey and Skdea, When I was young and pretty I had died to match 4 inch spike high heel’s for every out fit and a purse to match…All my clothes were bright and flashie…Lived in California and raced my 56 TBird against all the guy’s with Vets (Corvetts) that is..Never lost a race. Those were the day’s.. February 26th, 2007 at 10:23 pm“Clarissa Ward from Fox News blogs: “There have been three attacks in the last month involving the use of chlorine gas.”
That’s A LIE.
The attacks, so far as a review of non-US coverage shows, have been bombs placed on LIQUID chlorine tanker trucks.
As I posted last week:
AP is touting three chlorine –gas– explosions, when the first two, on Jan 28 and Feb 20 are described in the non-US press as chlorine tankers (liquid). Then we were told that the military found a chlorine gas cannister bomb factory. What a coincidence!
An Iraqi general was quoted as saying that the “terrorists” are using “dirty means.”
Since the US nukes policy now allows attacks on anyone threatening or using WMD, the exaggeration of these attacks as involving chlorine gas (which has a far greater dispersal range than blown up liquid chlorine, one presumes) is a justification for, say, the nuclear bombing of some Al-Fallujah to come.
Or, if a direct linkage to Iran can be found, it is sufficient characterization to arguably support the use of nukes against Iran.
The AP is at least partly in the employ of Bushco, that’s fairly clear. The conflation of these bombings as if all three bombings have involved chlorine gas (when only one did) is a troublesome bit of propagandizing that bears watching.
February 26th, 2007 at 11:03 pmChlorine tanker truck explodes in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq, Feb. 20 (UPI) — A booby-trapped chlorine tanker truck exploded in a town north of Baghdad on Tuesday, killing at least two people and injuring 148 others.
The blast occurred outside a restaurant in Taji, about 12 miles north of Baghdad, Interior Ministry officials said. Many of the injured suffered lung injuries from the chlorine, which causes a spontaneous secretion of mucous in the lungs and difficulty breathing.
–
NOTE the report: chlorine tanker truck. Chlorine is transported in liquid form in every major city in the world.
–
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) — A cloud of deadly toxic gas engulfed an Iraqi town Tuesday, killing six people and leaving dozens of others choking on fumes after a tanker carrying chlorine exploded outside a restaurant.
An Iraqi Interior Ministry official said the blast in the town of Taji, 12 miles (20 km) north of Baghdad, was caused by a bomb on board the tanker.
There were contrasting figures on the casualty toll. Baghdad security plan spokesman Gen. Qassim Atta told state-run al-Iraqiya TV that five people died in the blast and 148 were poisoned by the gas.
–
Note that a deadly cloud of chlorine GAS “engulfing the town” (with something like 100,000 residents) would kill thousands of people, not SIX.
“Maps, Weather, and Airports for At Taji, Iraq
Approximate population for 7 km radius from this point: 143794″
Note that news reports fail to mention Camp Taji, the US base, which was the probable target of such an attack — NOT the civilian population per se. Note the hysterical coverage of a relatively minor death toll (compared to something like a half-million to a million killed since the US invaded Iraq).
–
We are being bullshited on so many fronts that it is hard to keep up. But this story stinks, and not of drain cleanser.
February 26th, 2007 at 11:27 pmAlso, should have mentioned, other reports mention that the six dead was FROM THE EXPLOSION, NOT from the effects of the exploded chlorine.
Once again, of the complicit corporate warmonger media is bullshitting us into major combat.
• Anyone have time to help me document this?
February 26th, 2007 at 11:32 pmWhen the Iraqi insurgents learn to combine liquid chlorine with pool acid then watch out > that causes phosgene gas which is very deadly.
February 27th, 2007 at 12:18 amCaption Contest:
“Did anyone add those Zyklon B thingy’s to my mask yet?”
February 27th, 2007 at 2:56 amCompletely missing the point, Jay, and morbid as well. Do you really think the insurgency in an illegal invasion by oil thieves and military corporations and their hired mercenaries from death squads around the world don’t deserve attack to drive them from the country they are raping?
The US knows how to use WMD — Reagan/Bush helped Hussein target his chemical weapons on Iranian troops twenty years ago. CENTCOM admitted (after denial) that phosphorus weapons were used on suspected insurgents in Al-Fallujah, and that after four Blackwater employees were hung out to dry BY Blackwater. So don’t pretend that the insurgency is threatening the world with pool chemicals.
Bushco is planning on using a nuke, or several nukes, on Iranian targets. Time to get real.
February 27th, 2007 at 2:57 am• GHW Bush failed to act when Ultimate Evil Man Saddam Hussein used SARIN against the Marsh Arabs in 1991. After Bush verbally encouraged their revolt. After General Schwartzkopf allowed Hussein the use of his military helicopters during the armistice.
George Bush is currently using chemical weapons against Colombian farmers. Luckily, the Uribe presidency is falling apart, just in time for arch-criminal Bush’s visit.
• “Uribe’s foreign minister [resigned] over her family’s ties to paramilitary militias and the arrest of [Uribe's] hand picked former secret police chief for murder…Eight pro-Uribe congressmen have been arrested for collaborating with paramilitaries, and dozens of national and regional politicians, some who have apparently fled the country, are under investigation.
“…many [legislators] may have won [stolen elections] because of support from paramilitaries [who intimidated voters. Special elections may have to be called]. A decorated colonel has been relieved of his post, and other former military officials are also under investigation.
On Monday, Uribe’s foreign minister, MarÃa Consuelo Araújo, resigned after the Supreme Court arrested her brother, an Uribe-allied senator, for involvement in the kidnapping of a political rival. Her father, a former governor, another brother, and a cousin are also under investigation.
On Thursday came the worst blow. Jorge Noguera, who served as Uribe’s campaign manager and later as head of Colombia’s secret police, was arrested by the attorney general. Noguera is accused of giving a hit list of trade unionists and activists to paramilitaries, who then killed them. Another former secret police official is serving an 18- year sentence for purging police records of paramilitaries and drug traffickers.” [one of YOUR pals, "rachel"]
So ‘Plan Colombia’ is working out about as well as ‘Plan Iraq.’ George Bush is a criminal, and a failure whose ‘works’ will be billion-dollar ruins and a lot of soldiers wasted in battles for an Idiot.
February 27th, 2007 at 3:08 amPaul > if you see this post > pool chemicals mixed together make a very serious gas. Chorine mixed with pool acid causes an instant chain reaction and a highly toxic lethal gas cloud. Iraqis do not want to be occupied by the criminal Bush Regime, so they are learning to mix available chemicals to make more lethal bombs.
February 27th, 2007 at 9:55 amsomeone needs to go to jail for what happened in minot, north dakota.frightening.our media is an appalling failure.
February 27th, 2007 at 11:50 am“Paul > if you see this post > pool chemicals mixed together make a very serious gas.” –Jay Randal
If you are unclear about it, you can mix drain cleaner with acid and kill your whole family. THIS IS NOT NEWS. Neither is blowing up chlorine trucks a great danger to the public, as the handful of fatalities were from the EXPLOSION, and the chlorine-inhalation cases were quickly released from hospital.
“Iraqis do not want to be occupied by the criminal Bush Regime, so they are learning to mix available chemicals to make more lethal bombs.”
Nonsense. The Sunni chlorine bomb that blew up in Taji was at a Shia restaurant. If you think that was a coincidence or an attack on US forces (which, given the presence of Camp Taji isn’t entirely a crazy idea), consider the name of the restaurant.
How many Marines do you think eat at The Family of the Prophet restaurant? You’re right — absolutely NONE.
