As ThinkProgress has documented, the death of Anna Nicole Smith was a feeding frenzy for the national media. While many cable news shows have moved on to other stories, Fox News host John Gibson remains fixated on the late Playboy playmate. Every day since Smith’s death on Feb. 8, Gibson has devoted significant segments of his show “The Big Story” to Anna Nicole.
On his radio show on Friday, Gibson attempted to defend his coverage. He accused reporters — such as CNN’s Anderson Cooper — of “news-guy snobbery” and attacked them for covering the Iraq war. Mocking Cooper, he said, “Oh, ‘There’s a war on! There’s a war on!’ Maybe, just maybe, people are a little weary, Mr. Cooper, of your war coverage, and they’d like a little something else.”
Since Smith’s death on Feb. 8, 42 U.S. soldiers have died fighting in Iraq. Approximately 969 Iraqis have been killed. Americans aren’t weary of the media’s war coverage, they’re weary of the war itself.
Transcript:
GIBSON: Now I submit to you that that is a real, honest-to-God drama. Now it may not fit the high-minded views of a lot of news professionals, people who think that their news program is just another part of Foreign Affairs Quarterly. That only a certain kind of news is worthy of their discussing. Those people are snobs. They’re people who, when they see a story, go, “Ew, icky. I don’t want to do that.” I did this for years. I’ve been doing a long time. I’ve approached many stories and said, “That story isn’t worth our trouble.” It has always been a mistake. Always. Every single time I did it. So when I see people like this guy —
[CLIP ANDERSON COOPER] There’s a war on, there’s a war on, there’s a war on.
GIBSON: Oh, there’s a war on, there’s a war on. Maybe, just maybe, people are a little weary, Mr. Cooper, of your war coverage, and they’d like a little something else. Maybe that’s why they all thundered to this story.
[CLIP ANDERSON COOPER] There’s a war on, there’s a war on, there’s a war on.
GIBSON: My complaint about this is what you’re listening to when you hear that guy lecture the audience, is you’re listening to news-guy snobbery. Essentially saying, “I’m better than you. I know what you want to hear about, but I’m better than that story. I’m too high class for that story. I won’t stoop to what you want to hear about.”
I’m not playing that. People want to hear about the Anna Nicole story, I’m happy to tell them.

70% of our media is owned by 3 major corporations. and this is the shit we get on our tv. while my fellow americans are being slaughtered by the terroris occupiers in the whitehouse.
folks this is ISRAEL AND IT WREAKS OF DEATH
February 26th, 2007 at 12:40 pmThey should be weary. That’s what war is all about.
February 26th, 2007 at 12:40 pmAre you f#cking kidding me? He’s now DEFENDING the lack of war coverage? Mr. “Support the Troops” is now advocating the virtual blackout of all Iraq war coverage? In favor of some blonde gold-digging bimbo?
The hubris, arrogance, and hypocrisy is simply off the charts.
February 26th, 2007 at 12:42 pmHis point is what is YOUR personal priority. Not that it would not be covored but how much. Clearly, by his actions ANS is more a PRIORITY than American soldiers death, escalation for another pre-emptive war, and dialogue about Iraq.
Got it Gibbons, we see what your priorities are and Faux News, it speaks volumes.
February 26th, 2007 at 12:45 pmOoooooohhhhhh….
Tell us more of the dead girl from the TV. We need to know.
War is icky and is more of a springtime story like white shoes, only to be worn or spoken of seasonally.
February 26th, 2007 at 12:46 pmMr. Gibson…The Iraq war happens every day and there are different things to report every day. Anna Nicole died weeks ago and has long since lost any importance (if it ever was in the first place). Since Gibson refuses to report anything on the Iraq war, he is dependent on famous (or probably more infamous) people dying in order to give him something to talk about.
February 26th, 2007 at 12:47 pmAnd here I thought Conservatives had disdain for “Hollywood types.” Why such a fascination with Anna Nicole Smith, Gibson?
February 26th, 2007 at 12:48 pmIn an odd twist of fate, they discover it’s Saddam’s baby, and the WMDs are in her breasts.
Story at 11:00.
February 26th, 2007 at 12:48 pmThe death of Anna Nicole Smith. Just another “Faux National Tragedy.”
February 26th, 2007 at 12:49 pmPeople are not stupid as much as the MSM tries to feed cud to the sheeple. We recall the entire summer of 2001 fixated on Rep. Gary Condit and Sandra Levy story that became a journalistic orgy of distraction then 9/11.
MSM and especially Faux News have long lost any moral compass and credibility to be construed as news.
February 26th, 2007 at 12:53 pmIs this Gibson guy married? He is just worried that he won’t see her big boos hanging out. She was a playboy bimbo. Who cares if she is dead. The only thing I feel sorry is her baby. We need to support our troops not some stupid blonde that is dead.
February 26th, 2007 at 12:58 pmDisgusting
Fox News has no integrity
February 26th, 2007 at 1:01 pm[…] Listen Here […]
February 26th, 2007 at 1:05 pmWay too many stupid ignorant people in this country. HOMO IGNORAMUS citizens don’t deserve to vote because they have nothing but junk in their heads thanks to the crappy news coverage. Their judgements are practically impaired. Well, they don’t think.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:05 pmhe has nothing more to say about the war that can be viewed by anyone as favorable, why not shoot at those that are showing the war for what it is?
February 26th, 2007 at 1:05 pmanna panna po panna was an important artificial marilyn for this guy, and now he has to think of someone else with his soldier in hand or be a necrophile. I would like to see the General weigh in on this one.
With 24/7 news cycle you can do both. Report on the success in Iraq and in the overall war against Islamo Facism, the surrender lobby of the left and on the drug overdosed ex-Playmate. Plenty of time for all.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:06 pmGibson is a freak, and it is not worth any synaptic energy to contemplate the multitude of reasons why that statement is true.
The point is that he/it has an audience who is lapping up what this cat serves. So what?
I doubt that any here are part of Gibson’s regular audience, save the trolls that is. Let him pander with whatever stories they want. Quite honestly, anyone who is more interested in the ANS story than the Iraq debacle really shouldn’t be involved in the Iraq debate/issue anyways.
I mean, do you really want to associate with Gibson’s audience? Welcome to America and freedom of choice. I choose to deal with reality and the urgent issues that are facing us. If someone chooses to wallow in the sordid details of the life of a character such as ANS, that may be sad but it is still their choice. So be it.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:09 pmHeterodoxy
I work in the MSM in South Africa.
In fact I work on three different newspapers with different core readerships:
One of them is one of South Africa’s big newspapers, and is generally regarded as being a white man’s paper.
Another is the black version of the white man’s paper. If you ever visit both pages, you will note a certain eery similarity between the two. In fact my editor yelled at me for posting a picture of a white guy on it.
And the one considered the most important, is the rich man’s paper. It pays the bills.
That is the basic nature of the MSM.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:12 pmWith 24/7 news cycle you can do both. Report on the success in Iraq and in the overall war against Islamo Facism Patrick1
Given the yearly increase in Terrorist attacks against US interest and allies sequentially since 2001 as reported by State Dept. Please do enlighten us with the success’ in Iraq and overall war. Go ahead dumba$$, be sure to include the resurgence of Taliban and Al-Qaida.
I will get my popcorn…..go ahead.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:13 pmA blond with big boobs doing anything is always more interesting to men then a war where people are dying for no reason, and no one is doing anything about it… Come people…..
February 26th, 2007 at 1:14 pmBruce Gorton, I appreciate your honesty. My brother works in the Beijing bureau and has stated similar ‘objectives’. It does not disuade my view that it is without a moral compass based on the almighty dollar and pretection of the Corporate masters.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:17 pmWhy does John CS Gibson choose to ignore the dead and wounded soldiers, and focus on the dead faux star?
February 26th, 2007 at 1:19 pmSaddam and his raping brood are dead. The Iraqi people have voted three times. They have a government, they have hospitals that function and Sadr has fled the country, that is just a start.
As I mentioned the news people can talk about these victories and the fact we haven’t been attacked since 9/11 and the OD Smith.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:19 pm…
February 26th, 2007 at 1:19 pmWhat a whack job…
Mr. Gibson? You need to find a new career; to say that “People want to know about Anna Nicole” ….what crap. If you truly believes that then you should go work for the National Enquirer. I sure don’t give a hoot about ANS. During the 24/7, nonstop coverage of ANS, I wanted to know what our infamous King George W was doing behind our backs, along with the rest of the Bush Administration. I actually want to hear about the Iraq war, I want to hear news that affects this country; ANS passing is not news-worthy; her death has no affect on any of us. For two weeks the MSM treated the ANS Circus like it was the second coming of Christ. For two weeks, you couldn’t find a station on the tube that wasn’t covering her death, or the pathetic court room drama with that blubbering idiot judge. So Mr. Gibson …report the news, leave the smut riddled crap to the tabloids where it belongs.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:21 pmfact we haven’t been attacked since 9/11
Comment by Patrick1Cell — February 26, 2007 @ 1:19 pm
See, this is why no one here takes you seriously.
You just have no substance to your arguments, and you seem to have large empty spaces underneath your cranium.
One word: Anthrax!
Sorta debunks your no attacks since 9/11 b.s.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:26 pmTake your time in not replying!
As I mentioned the news people can talk about these victories and the fact we haven’t been attacked since 9/11 and the OD Smith.
Comment by Patrick1
WOW!!!!!!!! Al I can say is wow! Listen Patrick with all due respect you are entitled to your opinions but not your own set of facts. Why di you discredit the Anthrax attacks, unsolved, that killed Americans. Why do you discard the terrorizing of the DC sniper who was muslim stating Allah Ahkbar as he shot and killed innocent men women and children? Why do you discard the recent Embassy attack in Greece, or our allies?
This is not Hannity chat, credibility and integrity are required.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:29 pmAgain, Patrick you need to make an appointment with a good therapist.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:31 pmYou are an angry little boy with major mommy issues, go work on that!
Ho hum….Yaawwwnnn. Just one more example that Faux News is entertainment, not news.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:32 pmGibson’s defective synapses are the reason Anderson Cooper, et. al., have to mention the war everyday. Gibson’s in the early stages of Alzheimer’s.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:33 pm“Anna…Anna…Anna…Anna… Anna Nicole… she’s so OUTRAGEOUS!”
I didn’t chose to watch her reality show… why should it be force fed to us by cable news, unless its just a FOX NOISE diversion from the ABSOLUTE FIASCO Bush and their followers have caused our great nation!
February 26th, 2007 at 1:34 pmPatrick, beg, borrow or steal it, but get a clue.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:35 pmThey have a government, they have hospitals that function and Sadr has fled the country, that is just a start.
Comment by Patrick1
Hospitals? Is that why Talabani wen to Syria for his reported heart attack?
And the Iraqi VP was almost assassinated?
Iraqi vice president dodges bomb; 10 die
Sounds like a real strong government, eh?
February 26th, 2007 at 1:37 pmDevoting all of the news cast to a second rate starlet for weeks on end shows you aren’t a snob? I think it shows you’re not a journalist.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:40 pmPatrick,
“The surrender lobby on the left”??? Would that be the same “surrender lobby” who is investigating the right on the recent BOMBSHELL that Bush and Cheney are funding Al-Qaida?
Read this story, you stupid boob and realize you are PART OF THE ENEMY our nation is fighting! If you support Bu$hco., you support sending our tax dollars to Al-Qaida/Osama bin Laden, and that means you ARE A TRAITOROUS PUNK!
Demand congress tie Bu$hco’s hands so we can capture or kill Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaida and end Bu$hco’s friendship so we can more effectively fight the war on terror!
There is NO EXCUSE for our hard earned tax dollars being sent to Al-Qaida by Dubya and Cheney. NONE! Anyone who supports Bush/Cheney are traitors!

February 26th, 2007 at 1:42 pmWhatever doubts that Gibson is a complete turd have now been completely erased.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:42 pmEvergreen,
I agree with your yawn; I have no expectation of hearing anything truthful from Fox. However, I’d say that this is another example of propaganda, not news.
I think that it is time to consider the whole Fox network under the campaign-spending rubric.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:43 pmI for one loved the train wreck that was Anna and I admit I did watch her reality show (for laughs) HOWEVER…. it has its place in the news, its called entertainment news…. and people tun into shows like Exta & entertainment tonight to get the scoop.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:44 pmThe nightly news is for important information, up to date knowledge on current worldly affairs, maybe Gibson is trying to replace the Extra Host?
On the other hand, you can imagine how crushing to the ego it must be for those so-called JOURNALISTS who have protected Bush and Cheney when all the lies continue to unravel. It must be hard to look at themselves in the mirror, and realize how they’ve been played and used and will be remembered for helping to destroy what was ONCE the greatest nation on earth. I’d hate to be them, and have to explain to my grandchildren how I traded “access” for “credibility,” “truth telling” and “professionalism.”
“Granddaddy, what did you do to help protect America from George W. Bush’s bad men?”
“Uh, I diverted attention away from them by endlessly reporting on a dead B-list starlet and her boobs!”
February 26th, 2007 at 1:46 pmGood,I’m glad we finally get to comment on A.N.S..
I have never, ever, found her attractive,in ANY way. Not even when she was playmate of the year.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:52 pmAlways wondered what the big deal with her was.
I do feel bad about her son’s death, and wish her daughter well.
Patrick is proof:
The right for everyone to vote is just not a good idea. Dumb people should not be given voice.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:52 pmSy Hersh is a joke.
February 26th, 2007 at 1:59 pmCommit for #39
I can tell you what the big deal was with her. Even if you do not like blonds or your not a boob man, she could get attention. Her story was a sad one, but so was Marilyn’s and they both did crazy things to get people to notice. For some little girl setting in a trailer park, she proved you could make it. Just like her idol, they lived fast, hard and died young.. what is not facsinating about that?
February 26th, 2007 at 2:00 pmwhat is not facsinating about that?
Comment by DMom
Fascinating? Yeah,maybe.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:10 pmAttractive? IMHO,no.
Her death is the big distraction FOX noise was looking for so they don’t have to cover the ongoing bad news about the war.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:10 pmNot everyone can be attracted to a blond bombshell,
February 26th, 2007 at 2:13 pmI have that problem too.
Satin Watch: There will be a counter view protest of Karl Rove:
A Public Lecture Presented by Mr. Karl Rove, Special Assistant to the President of the United States,” 11 am - 12 noon, Evans Auditorium, Texas State University at San Marcos, Tuesday, February 27th.
Anyone in the Texas area that can go and support a counter view of these antichrist loving fascists please attend.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:13 pmThe point is you have Gibson mocking Cooper for making the war a priority in his reporting while Gibson spends the week blathering over a washed up model.
Which is more important as a news story, the War or the model?
Success in Iraq is a dream bush has every night. Then he wakes up and has a drink.
At least he has fans like Patrickl to keep up an echo of that dream.
They can sleep forever.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:26 pmI hope Anderson Cooper has the sense of mind to answer back.
When I worked at Fox Noise about six years ago, the majority of their daily broadcast could sufficiently be labled as tabloid journalism.
It is very clear that things have not changed.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:32 pmLet’s face it: Anna Nicole was a “trainwreck in progress” and over now. To continue to spin such drivel as something which is impacting every citizen of this country/every day is engaging in soap-opera news. Actually, no one really cares a damn about who the baby’s father is or what happens next. What we do care greatly about is the preservation of what’s left of our democracy and bringing our troops back home - that’s what the average american cares about….Oh, let’s not forget…..our burgeoning national debt and who actually “owns” huge chunks of this country….and the money spent on killing and destruction is growing with each passing day……
It’s classic: THROWING GOOD MONEY AFTER BAD. Money spent to kill, maim and destroy will only bring destitution, bankruptcy, and destruction to it’s own. It’s THE SECRET (law of attraction) at it’s finest…..we’re totally focused on negativity and destruction which is precisely what we’re getting back now in spades.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:34 pmIt’s pretty disenchanting and disgusting that we have almost two more years of the “Chimp ‘n Cheney Show” to endure….ugh!!
February 26th, 2007 at 2:34 pmFake stories, fake boobs, fake reporters, fake history. Yep, sounds like Faux News.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:47 pmThat poor woman took very little and did something with it. Great! Yahoo! She’s dead now. Very sad for her family. Let’s move along….
Gibson? No excuse for him.
February 26th, 2007 at 2:59 pm[…] Wait, let me guess: More people died violently today? Yawn. I wish Britney would hurry up and die. [Think Progress] […]
February 26th, 2007 at 3:38 pmIt’s not about being a “snob”, it’s about trying to avoid reporting gossip, hype and sensationalism.
February 26th, 2007 at 3:53 pmPeople wanna hear we’re winning in Iraq? People wanna hear what a great leader Bush is to the number one nation in the world, maybe even in the universe?! People want to hear how much money the economy will make for them? I’ll be glad to tell them….. Peoplepleasers and conformists are bringing the world to its end. The people want useless commodities until it comes out their ears, until there’s nothing in the earth left to make useless stuff of. Airconditioners like there’s no tomorrow, SUV’s and heating systems like the oil of the world will flow forever, paving roads and killing roadents like the world will never run out of them, like the world doesn’t NEED them, like the world only needs people and their stupid stuff: bunnies in the garden, rabbits on the freezer, but nowhere are the real animals still to be seen. O, yee, savage beasts, thee areth worth even less then pests.
February 26th, 2007 at 4:03 pmJohn Gibson is an ass. Here’s something that’ll make you sick.
Several weeks ago at work I was watching his show in the breakroom, and he was talking about how he was surfing the Internet to find stories for his show.
So he stops when pictures of a shirtless Danny Bonaduce catches his attention. So what does he do? He invites Danny on his show and does a segment on Danny’s naked upper torso.
Gibson needs help.
February 26th, 2007 at 4:04 pmI am weary of the coverage of the stripper. I am not only weary, but appalled by the war. I am sick to the point of retching at the abominal cretins such as Gibson who masquerade as reporters, aiding and abetting the crimes of our government. Finally, I am ashamed of the Americans who don’t see this charade for what it is.
February 26th, 2007 at 4:05 pmHey John! Instead of surfing the Internet looking for pictures of naked men’s chests, why don’t you report on all those good news stories from Iraq we keep hearing about and about which the likes of you bitch because the MSM is ignoring them?
February 26th, 2007 at 4:06 pmHey John! If you care so much for a dead poor girl’s imitation of Marilyn Monroe than the thousands of our soldiers murdered by the lies of the Chimperor, why don’t you go in her coffin and bang her.
Necrophilia is probably a trait in your republikkkan soul.

If all this is true, then why are our troops still in Iraq? I thought we would leave when our job was done. Saddam is gone, they have an elected government, hospitals and no more Sadr. I guess we are done and can come home now.

February 26th, 2007 at 4:37 pmThis is what happens when you have media consolidation–an ill-informed public. Too crazy.
February 26th, 2007 at 4:37 pmWhat a joke! Anna Nicole Smith’s death is a tragedy, and we should hear about it, but honestly who cares to have it be headline. The war in Iraq is more important and should be our focus. Honestly, news should not be about celebrities and their problems, who gives a rats ass?
February 26th, 2007 at 4:46 pmGIBSON: Now I submit to you that that is a real, honest-to-God drama.
**********************************************
Oh, I see…and the War In Iraq isn’t? The shoddy treatment that the veterans are receiving at Walter Reed isn’t? The back-office dealing
Anna Nicole Smith isn’t really news as such in my opinion…it’s tawdry, shallow, trivial celebrity scandal dressed up to look like something more important than it actually is. It’s not much more than mental junk food, chewing gum for the intellect — a real-life soap opera for the sheeple to ruminate over so that they’re less likely to pay attention to more important issues. Enough, already! There’s certainly nothing wrong with reporting new developments on this story, but the amount of coverage this story has received is way out of proportion with its actual importance and with what this woman really accomplished in life. Do you think that someone like Stephen Hawking or Elie Weisel would be getting even half this much attention if he were to (deity forfend) die tomorrow? I wouldn’t bet on it. Anna Nicole Smith may have been beautiful and there’s no question that her death was tragic, but she wasn’t exactly an A-List celebrity — nor was she the eighth wonder of the world. In fact, her death seems to be getting far more attention than anything she accomplished in life. How does her death directly affect the lives of most American people? The answer, of course, is that it doesn’t. There is simply too much going on in the world of far greater importance for this story to be receiving so much coverage.

February 26th, 2007 at 5:21 pmOf course fox wants to distract us with the usual nonsense, and I think it’s great that so many people see through it. I pity people like patrick who either lie to defend this great abomination or are totally snowed under and don’t realize they are defending the plunder and destruction of the america we were taught existed in school and which sadly will now never fully exist. What gets me is that people like ANS are not only NOT news, but they are people we shouldn’t be thinking about and obsessing over because they are extremely BAD examples of people to begin with! Talking about them repeatedly only makes them seem bigger and more important than they actually are. ANS should be reviled because of her immoral and greedy actions, then quickly forgotten for good. Why can’t we obsess over iraq war veterans or charity workers instead?

February 26th, 2007 at 6:27 pmHey, at least this whole affair got John Gibson sentenced to an eternity in hell. That has to count for something.
February 26th, 2007 at 6:38 pmI’ve lost the little respect I’ve had for Gibson since he moved from hard news to fluff. It’s somewhat sad that most Americans know who Anna Nicole Smith is but can’t even name the Vice President or Speaker of the House. TV networks feed us fluff to keep us smiling and dumb - ignorance is bliss. The result is a 2-term president who still has 30% of Americans behind him and his maniacal policies because they have no idea what is going on in their government.
February 26th, 2007 at 6:58 pmJohn Gibson, reporting the news that impacts .0000001% of the American population directly. News about the disaster that Bush-Cheney has delivered to this country and which affects us all? Not so much.
February 26th, 2007 at 7:03 pmI’d no idea who Anna Nicole Smith was (still not completely sure what she did exactly). Seems a shame that she died.
Is there something wrong with me…?
February 26th, 2007 at 7:12 pmNO, John Gibson, those who devote more time to Iraq are DOING THEIR JOB whereas YOU are TRYING TO SHIFT THE EMPHASIS FROM SOMETHING WHICH DOES YOUR repugnant-repub and Bushland Uber Allies HARM, so by CHANGING THE SUBJECT to Anna Nicole and SHIFTING THE EMPHASIS, THE PICTURE, to her, YOU are SHOWING YOURSELF FOR WHAT YOU ARE–an OBFUSCATING, PREVARICATING, COVERING-UP, EMPHASIS-SHIFTING, LYING Four-Eyed Snaggle-Toothed Toady and Lackey of Bushland Uber Allies, Fox(tm) and that Tub of LARD Roger Ailes! “SNOB” that, Gibson, YOU MORON! BOMBASTIC IMBECILE!!!!!
February 26th, 2007 at 7:25 pmThe Republiscum do not refrain from showing their displeasure with “Hollywood” and those “liberal types” who live in California — but when they are desperate for anything to avoid covering the real news of the day - which is their supposed genre: a news channel - they continue to talk ad nauseum on the death of a grade B- celebrity, about which most are sick of hearing another word.
When the news of the day is not favorable for Bush&Co, then Hollywood - no matter how irrelevant the topic - is preferred by Fox, and the airheads and blowhards who dominate their channel.
February 26th, 2007 at 7:37 pmSaid the pornstar to the actress.
February 26th, 2007 at 8:15 pmJohn Gibson is an incredibly unattractive man. Anyone who thinks it’s immature of me to say so is a snob.
February 26th, 2007 at 8:16 pmSo, now you know: 1) If you ask for information above and beyond supermarket tabloid fare, then you are a “snob”, and 2) coverage of the Iraq war is boring.
I wonder if avoiding mention of the war is a way to support the troops?
February 26th, 2007 at 8:39 pmMaybe, just maybe, you and you buddies at FOX helped get us into this damned war we’re all so weary of, John. Now sit down and enjoy a nice bowl of STFU, while the grownups clean up after your mess.

Funny–until now it was the conservatives who were yelling, “There’s a war on,” all the better to tar dissenters as traitors.
Look, if people want to hear about Ms. Smith, they can listen to John Gibson, and if they want to hear about the war, they can listen to Anderson Cooper. Fair enough?
The only thing that’s stupider than than suggesting that only snobs have had enough of Ms. Smith is likening Ms. Smith to Marilyn Monroe. Monroe was a class act. The only thing that the two women have in common is that they were blondes who died young.
February 26th, 2007 at 9:55 pmFunny–”There’s a war on” used to be the cry of the conservatives who were trying to brand liberals as traitors.
As for Ms. Smith, the only thing stupider than the hype about her death, or the accusation of snobbery against those who’ve had enough of it, is likening her to Marilyn Monroe. The only thing those two women had in common was that they were blondes who died young.

February 26th, 2007 at 10:23 pmWhen I need my news edited by Gibson or any of the Foul News staff, please have the lights turned dim, manilow on the cassette player and pull the darned plug!
Even if it turned out that ANS had a 10 year affair with Donald Rumsfeld and knew state secrets and wanted to sell them to China in exchange for Bin Ladin’s babies, I wouldn’t watch it anywhere but CNN!
Cudos for Cooper! Long Live Wolf Blitzer, Lou Dobbs, Michael Ware, Christiane Amanpour and everyone else who puts their butt on the line to bring us the truth. Whenever Gibson gets his head out of HIS, let me know… I’ll take the day off and celebrate another Marine, Soldier, Sailor or Airman who doesn’t have to be let down by another American’s stupidity.
February 26th, 2007 at 11:02 pmLOL the corporate media/press would love for Americans to forget about Iraq and waste their minds on Anna Nicole Smith’s death and her baby.
February 27th, 2007 at 12:02 amI think news on war is more important. I think celebrities should be left alone. I wouldn’t mind hearing more on worldly events like the war than listen to celebrities who are just like us. Just with fame.
February 27th, 2007 at 12:06 amDexJ, people like you are part of the problem. You have obviously grossly misinformed or living in denial. The “Anthrax” sent in the days after 9/11 was sent by a white, PROTESTANT and the packages had nothing to do with the war whatsoever. I’m not sure but I think this was broadcast on EVERY television news show in the world, but thank you for once again why abortion is legal.

What the news people mosts don’t mention is that Clinton had much the same in the way of a record - After the first WTC bombing America wasn’t hit until a change of administration saw major cutbacks in anti-terror funding and the attention paid to anti-terror measures.
Indeed, while one could trumpet how Clinton’s measures prevented the Day of Terror Plot, and the Millenium Attacks, most of what you hear is about how strong Bush is on terror - when in fact he isn’t actually, a Democrat did better. Clinton did not lose 3000 people in one fell swoop, managed to make a surplus while achieving that, and didn’t have to compromise America’s constitution to do it.

February 27th, 2007 at 1:11 amAll I’d like to say that the imbecil who wrote that reporters that focus on the war on Iraq are snobs really needs to understrand that americans are more concerned with political issues that involve thousands of people dying than some floosy that was a gold digger and numbed herself with drugs. This writer obviously spent too much time reading playboy on the toilet than grieve with the the rest of the americans that lost loved ones that were innocent. I honestly feel bad for her child but I think maybe Ana Nicole would not have raised her child whole heartedly. She had too many issues as do so many people on this earth without half a billion dollars! Give me a break!!
February 27th, 2007 at 1:53 amYou go Anderson Cooper- anderson cooper is the most loved, respected and admired man in journalism!

Yay for Cooper!!

February 27th, 2007 at 9:14 pmIt’s to be expected of a super market tabloid masquerading as a news channel. What’s disappointing is that anyone watches them. Perhaps it’s similar to the macabre fascination people used to have with ‘freaks’ in side shows.
February 27th, 2007 at 10:41 pm“Americans aren’t weary of the media’s war coverage”
Thinkpravda didn’t listen to J-gib. He was saying American’s are weary of Cooper’s reporting. Cooper is an idiot. That’s why he gets his ass kicked every night by Fox. But who’s the real winner in the ratings? MSNBC with their friggin nonstop Anna coverage. When will the TP smear-machine attack MSNBC? Waiting…
February 28th, 2007 at 12:35 amCopy of message sent to John (myword@foxnews.com)
To John Gibson,
For you’re character assassination of Barack Obama about your fantasy Madrassas, you are a pitiful, despicable joke, shell of a human being. Yes, ’sir’ you are. I’m sure you called in outrage for the resignation of Dan Rather when he failed to uphold his journalistic integrity. Well, he did. So where the fuck is your resignation, and those of the rest of your pathetic excuses for collegues?
Your channel, and your show is a retched funk of a Tabloid. Accept it. Think Progress yesterday did nothing but further clarify the utterly mute point that you, your show, and your channel are rabidly hypocrital imposters promoting yourselves as having some journalistic relevance and integrity ( i.e. one of your presidents favorite words: ’standards’), but who are in reality bankrupt on both accounts. And, in fact, you are a total menace to society- it is statistically proven that people get stupider, more ignorant and confused via exposure to your carefully crafted idoiocy and propaganda. Like 90% of your viewers to this day think that Saddam Hussein was behind 9/11. You should really feel like the scum that you are. I know what I’m talking about, I’ve watched you and your minions extensively. What I’m saying is not out of ignorance of what you do, or out of lack of familiarity with you.
Since Smith’s death on Feb. 8, 42 U.S. soldiers have died fighting in Iraq. Approximately 969 Iraqis have been killed. Americans aren’t weary of the media’s war coverage, they’re weary of the war itself. Dipshit.

March 1st, 2007 at 12:59 amNothing but a 2 timing topless dancer hooker whose only aim in life was to cheat people of their fortunes. I am glad she died. Her child will not have to worry for having a worthless tramp for a mother and will not have to grow up with the shame.
Can you imagine with more than 100 000 people that have died in Iraq and other people that are dying every day CNN and other media still choose to give more attention to the death of a hooker whose death was most probably self inflicted by drug abuse. Its typical of these great american news networks to pull of something like this. typical of cnn to give more importance to a dog or cat stuck in a tree or the death of blonde bimbo tramp than to real events that are happening in the world.
In every one of her interviews its nothing but BLAH BLAH BLAH im a tramp, BLAH BLAH BLAH im a tramp…
March 1st, 2007 at 11:28 amand yet people are acting as though she had won a noble peace prize or something. People who feel sorry for her are ignorant and share the same colorful trailor trash lifestyle. What good did she ever do??
Her life was so pathetic that there needs to be a legal procedure to find out who the baby of the poor child is. If that does not spell tramp then what does. Ive noticed that the only people who feel sorry for her are mostly white trash women.

March 7th, 2007 at 10:02 pmcome on! we have entertainment t.v anyone with common sense knows that we do. we have all these stupid shows and tabloids, not to mention website telling us about Smith. We use to have shows called t.v. news/world news, but they’re hiding behind entetainment t.v. Havent you noticed people are not shocked when they hear about Smiths’ baby not having a daddy or that there are scams in her autopsy info. BUT they are shocked to hear that we have been in war for 5YEARS! we dont know smith personally, she’s not a close friend to all of us, she is a start that we only saw pictures of, yet we know about her. We live in a country that is at war and we dont even realize it. What about the families who have lost there loved ones…they remember! if we arent aware of this war we may not try to stop or assist or do whatever it is we can do…. we will wake up to Bush calling back a fear….DRAFTING. what if we didnt have a choice…what if our sons brothers husbands etc HAD to leave…. we’d be so unaware because we learned about some blonde starangers death.
so to Gibson…make fun of anyone you want, mimmick them like a 7 yr old… but you are not the only one giving viewers “what they want” everyone knows of 5 places they can go at the top of their heads to get info on SMITH. Why doesnt anyone give us something we havent heard? why dont we get more info about our own lives and whats going on with it? im so tired of hearing about other people shaving their heads when i dont even know them! what about this war…i want to know what I AM living in!
my regards to those who knew and loved A.N. Smith.
i sure would love to find a news source that can give informative useful news in an entertaining way without forgetting it’s purpose and origonal responsibility to the public (not the rich and the famous).
