  8. Badmoodman Says:

A little Old testament for Rev. Falwell: Gen. 2:15 which says, “The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden as its gardener, to tend and care for it”. The Hebrew word for tend can also mean “to serve” and the word for care may be translated “to keep safe, preserve, protect.” This mandate has never been rescinded.

Dang, just when I thought it was the fault of Dinosuars with gas, I now find out it was satan just speading some myths to warp the minds of God fearin’ Christians everywhere. I personally think it was satan, force feeding Dinosaurs brocali 3 million ago, that caused Global Warming today. Either that, or it was Bill Clinton’s fault. Come to think of it, it must have been satan that teleported Bill Clinton back in time and the two of them where handing out free brocali to every brontosaurus they ran across…

I work with people who eat this crap up (out of a dept. of 11, seven of them are radical righties) — one tried to argue global warming isn’t really man’s fault because, you know, Mars is getting warmer.

Now, considering Mars is a different planet, I think her point was that solar radiation was a main cause. When I pointed her toward studies that have factored in solar affects, yet show now real difference, she said all the academics (thousands of them, mind you), “have an agenda.”

Naturally, she produced no evidence of this agenda, nor did she have any idea what that agenda would be.

She then sent me a link to AEI — and tried to say it was unbiased even though AEI admits to having an agenda.

Face it — people like this will come up with whatever BS they can to further their political goals, the future or facts be damned. Whether it’s Falwell or the idiots with whom I work, the refusal to recognize the obvious is par for the course, especially when the obvious conflicts with their already-defined and narrow world view.

Man Jerry Falwell is a idiot. He should be working with government to figure out how we can education China, India, and Russia to be more like the USA. If we could figure out how to get those 3 countries to lower there emissions needed per GDP to USA standards, this world would be in a much better position. To deny Global warming is wrong and dangerous. We have moved past that and we now need to figure out how to get India, China, and Russia to greener production standard like the USA. We in the USa produce roughly 2.5 GDP per emission while Russia, China, and India produce roughly 0.5 GDP per emission. They are wrecking the planet for all of us and we need to figure out how to help them before they kill us all.

Hmm, invading and occupying their mid-east oil suppliers and their neighbors is not likely going to win over the hearts and minds of the big three Worldwide polluters. Even if we we’re aggressively pursuing the development of greener industry trends, they’re not likely to be adopted by countries which deem us a fumbling, two-faced bully.

Imagine boosting the U.S. economy by selling technology, services and methods for cleaner industrial policies and actions to the HUGE markets of China, Russia and India! But instead, we’re completely bogged down in a very dangerous Mid-East crisis, which unfortunately is nobody’s fault but our own.

We could probably make a lot of money off of those countries doing it, too. Or, we could let somebody else take the lead in environmental technology and they could reap the huge rewards.

We are already doing it. We produce 2.5 GDP for 1 emission. We now need to figure out how to get the rest of the big economy important countries to follow our lead.

  31. Roger_Roger Says:

Luckily we in the USA can be proud of the fact that of all the important countries, we are the leader in green production. To stop global warming, we need to figure out how to change China, India, and Russia to be more like us and clean up there dirty ways.

The United States should be the model for all large economic powers on how to be more environmentally friendly. Sure, we could get better but then we are into the micro details. The only real way to curb Global warming is to work with the biggest polluters (China, Russia, and India). If we could get those 3 to move towards the US model, the entire world would be in a much much better place.

CUrrently, those 3 countries are the leaders when it comes to emissions and it is sad. It may be time to work for a global treaty that ties GDP to emissions. Those countries that fail to hit 2.5 GDP per emission should have to pay a fee to make up the difference and help save the world. This type of a system would also make the world economy a much more fair playing field. Either India, China, and Russia start to clean up and move closer to the American model or we should start charging them a fee for there excessive emissions.

THIS JUST IN FROM THE GLOBAL WARMING DEPT…
    BUSH IS A HYPOCRITE
    Sierra Club.org 2002
It’s more than a little ironic that, in his private life, President Bush is actually a leader in consumer conservation. His Crawford, Texas, ranch has been described as an environmentally sensitive showplace designed with “state-of-the-art energy efficiency.” The house is filled with energy-saving devices, while the lawn and orchard are irrigated with recycled water.

    Treehugger.com 2007
Only your dispassionate Canadian correspondent could write this without colour or favour, but is it possible that George Bush is a secret Green? Evidently his Crawford Winter White House has 25,000 gallons of rainwater storage, gray water collection from sinks and showers for irrigation, passive solar, geothermal heating and cooling. “By marketplace standards, the house is startlingly small,” says David Heymann, the architect of the 4,000-square-foot home. “Clients of similar ilk are building 16-to-20,000-square-foot houses.” Furthermore for thermal mass the walls are clad in “discards of a local stone called Leuders limestone, which is quarried in the area. The 12-to-18-inch-thick stone has a mix of colors on the top and bottom, with a cream- colored center that most people want. “They cut the top and bottom of it off because nobody really wants it,” Heymann says. “So we bought all this throwaway stone. It’s fabulous. It’s got great color and it is relatively inexpensive.”

    Ofee.gov
America’s most famous residence now gets some of its energy directly from the sun. In late 2002, the White House installed its first-ever solar electric system, including putting 167 solar electric - a.k.a. “photovoltaic” - panels on the roof of the complex’s primary maintenance building, and two solar thermal systems to heat the pool and spa and provide domestic hot water. The photovoltaic system feeds electricity into the White House grounds’ distribution system, supplementing the complex’s power supply. The American-made solar panels were manufactured by Evergreen Solar, Inc. of Marlborough, MA.

    Also ofee.gov
John Howard, the Federal Environmental Executive, noted: “Installing solar panels at the White House is yet another example of President Bush’s personal stewardship commitment. When he was governor, he made sure that the Governor’s Mansion in Austin was one of the first to sign up to receive renewable energy. At his ranch in Crawford, the Bush family has installed a 25,000-gallon rainwater cistern for irrigation and planted native plants — and he’s busy removing invasive trees. Their geothermal heating and cooling system sends water into the ground 300 feet to keep it at a constant 67 degrees, using 75 percent less electricity than traditional heating and air-conditioning systems - and so efficiently heating the outdoor pool that they shelved their plans to install solar panels. And his national energy plan includes more than $9 billion in tax proposals to increase energy efficiency, conservation, renewable energy, and emissions-free energy.”

It is about time Al Gore got on board.

  42. Unholy Moses Says:

    Hey, hacker slob –
Again, I know facts are foreign to you wingers, but Gore:

    1.) Buys carbon offsets for his energy usage;
2.) His home is in the process of being powered 100% by green technology; 3.) Unlike Bush, is actually trying to get others to do the same.

But that’s okay … we all understand that facts often get in the way of your demonizing of those you oppose.

  44. Roger_Roger Says:

You clearly can’t read well. The only true measure of how a country does emission wise is to judge the amount of emissions they use to produce 1 GDP. Otherwise, comparisons would never work and the countries that are struggling to feed itself would be looked at like a environmental god, which isn’t true at all. Therefore, looking at how much polluting it takes a country to produce $1 of GDP is a very fair comparison.

The USA produces around $2.5 GDP for 1 emission.
Russia, India, and China produce $0.5 GDP for 1 emission.

Sure the USA produces the most emissions as we should. We also produce most of the GDP (production). So a valid measure of how well a country is doing with emissions is really to compair it to its output. The USA does very very well while the other large economic powers are complete failures.

To put it in childs terms. To produce 1 shoe in the USA take 1 emission. To produce the same shoe in China, India, or Russia, it takes around 4 emissions for the same shoe.

Do you get my point yet? We in the USA can certainly reduce our GDP, thus reducing our emissions but China or India would certainly pick up that lost output the world demands. They of course would then use even more emissions then we did and the world would be even worse! The only solution is to fix or charge these countries to make up for how horrible they are emission wise.

The USA does very well believe it or not. Sure we produce tons of emissions but we also produce most of the worlds output. Emissions afterall aren’t a function of population or wealth. Emissions are a function of output/production. You can take a very little country that hardly produces anything, yet they could be bad polluters while you could take a country like the USA and find that we are actually very efficient emissions wise.

Sure we could get better, but the other economic powers are the ones with the big problem right now. In a macro sense, Fixing China, Russia, and India would do way more to combat global warming. The USA’s problems are very micro. We should shot to get to the $3 GDP per 1 emission. China, Russia, and India aren’t even at a 1 to 1 ratio yet. That is pathetic.

  45. Roger_Roger Says:

    Carbon Intensity (Tons CO2/$1000 GDP)
    Country 1980 1990 2000 2003
    US 0.92 0.70 0.59 0.56
    CA 1.12 0.89 0.79 0.80
    BR 0.50 0.58 0.57 0.55
    SW 0.55 0.28 0.24 0.22

    CH 8.46 5.44 2.81 2.58
    JP 0.34 0.24 0.25 0.25

The CO2 output has more to do with the energy sources used, than the GDP. Moron.

    GDP per Emissions:

    USA 2.118
    China 0.525
    Russia 0.527
    India 0.614

While I don’t appreciate the nasty comments, I do wish to make a point here. These numbers show exactly what I was talking about. China, Russia, and India are so far behind us it isn’t funny (Honestly). There GDP per emissions data proves they are truly the worlds very worst polluters. While your numbers are also correct, you need to remove all the small economy countries from the list so we can compair apples to apples. When discussing the USA, Russia China, and India are really the only other players on the list. They are not only large economies, but they are also the countries that are growing at a very rapid pace.

Lastly, your chart is solid but you didn’t include the USA’s equals such as Russia and India. You did show China and they are obviously doing horrible. Showing countries like SW is pointless. that is like compairing Ghana to the USA. You have a nothing country compaired to a country that controls much of the world’s GDP output.

Which country that if it became greener, would help the world as a whole more?

  59. RageAgainstTheMachine Says:

Roger one more comment on your GDP… Know why we’re such an efficient producer of those CO2 per GDPs?

Because we don’t really produce anything here. We’ve moved towards service based industries, losing most of our manufacturing jobs, which generally helped the lower middle class, as well as poor people. Thus why we see the increasing number of people living in poverty.

Like I said before, the things the USA needs to do at this point are very Micro and won’t show much effect. China, India, and Russia on the other hand needs to go a long ways and there change could improve the world overnight. The USA is already doing BETTER then the world average. The other large economic powers are doing 4-5 times WORSE then we are. Obviously the focus is not and should not be on the USA. In reality, we in the USA should be helping and working with those from Russia, China, and India to improve their standards and bring them closer to the USA model.

We obviously do a very good job with our emissions but we now need to teach the rest of the economic powers how we did it. We need to influence them to change.

When you asked who could afford to change, the answer is complex. It would be a waste of resources to improve the USA the micro amount we could change at this point. I would actually answer it by saying we should pool our resources in the USA to help improve China, India, and Russia and bring them up to our standards. I would also set up (through the UN) a fee system and charge these countries on all exported goods a sum that would make it even. We obviously do alot and we need to “nudge” them in the right direction. We also need to keep an even playing field. It isn’t fair to the global markets when countries like the USA do so much to improve emissions while slackers in China do little to nothing.

You also asked who should do the right thing first? Odd question. We in the USA are already doing the right thing as we are above the world average and still improving. So we have already done the right thing.

Which country that if it became greener, would help the world as a whole more?

Russia, China, and India combined is the correct answer by the numbers. There GDP combined is close to ours yet they currently use over 4 times the emissions. The are the obvious choice to become greener. They would far and away make the biggest impact.

The Federal Environmental Executive (OFEE) is a position that was created by executive order of President Clinton in 1993. And Gore isn’t exactly a newbie when it comes to environmental initiatives:

VICE PRESIDENT GORE: STRONG ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP
    FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM

Al Gore has long been at the forefront of efforts to protect our environment and quality of life in ways that promote strong, sustainable economic growth. Since entering public office in 1976 as member of the U.S. House of Representatives, he has fought to improve public health, preserve natural treasures, promote cleaner, energy-efficient business, protect oceans and coasts, reinvent environmental regulation, and combat global warming. His 1992 book, Earth in the Balance, is widely recognized as a passionate, penetrating analysis of the environmental challenges we face.

As a member of Congress, Al Gore helped lead the fight for stronger air and water quality protections for millions of Americans and for passage of the original Superfund law to clean up toxic waste sites. Later as a U.S. Senator, he led early calls for research and action to address the threat of global warming.

Since Bush only recently came to the conclusion that global warming might be real and that maybe we should try to do something about it and maybe conservation isn’t such a bad idea, either, what was his reason for having his Crawford home built to be energy efficient? Or was it even his idea to do it?

BTW, the world average per country is 1.831 GDP per emissions. The USA at 2.118 is beating the world average once again proving we are doing better then even many of the small nothing countries and torching all the big important countries. Comment by Roger_Roger — February 27, 2007 @ 4:27 pm

Like a rabid old dog, another meaningless rant, from the man-c*nt.

The US is behind the industrialized world, and near 3rd world countries. But if you want to spout of like a psychotic old t*rd, help yourself.

  66. ValiantVenusGrewFromUranus Says:

Russia, China, and India combined is the correct answer by the numbers. There GDP combined is close to ours yet they currently use over 4 times the emissions. The are the obvious choice to become greener. They would far and away make the biggest impact.
    Comment by Roger_Roger — February 27, 2007 @ 5:06 pm

So you expect the 2nd/3rd world to lead the technology advances to save mankind? What a stupid c*ntish thing to believe.

    VVGFU,

Roger is utterly incapable of accepting responsibility for anything he does. Everything is someone else’s fault - and therefore not his problem.

One of my students said, in response to me pointing out why I teach them to use alternative sources of energy, that scientists said that the world would have exploded by now, but he didn’t see that happening. I told him that I doubt credible peer-reviewed scientists would say such things. After which, his classmates called him names and told him to shut up (they are so nurturing to one another).Fortunately, he is considered to be a raving idiot by most of the students and anything he says is automatically viewed as noise pollution.

I’m guessing Roger’s colleagues view him similarly.

  68. Roger_Roger Says:

#65 You expect us to not care or worry about who the problem is? Russia, China, and India are the main driving powers behind Global warming and you don’t seem to be interested. You want to waste tons of time and resources improving countries that are already doing a very good job.

You like to chunk the US in with little meaningless countries. You can call them industrilized all you want but there economies prove they are meaningless. These little nothing economy countries can have the best emissions in the world and it won’t matter one bit. The USA, Russia, India, and China are the big players. You can call them 2nd/3rd world all you want, but these are the boys that produce most of the worlds output and also produce most of the worlds emissions.

It is pointless to pull the US out of that crew and focus on them while ignoring the rest.

TOTAL EMISSIONS OF CHINA, RUSSIA, AND INDIA:
    6,166,542

    TOTAL EMISSIONS FOR THE USA:
    5,872,278

TOTAL GDP OF RUSSIA, CHINA, and INDIA:
    3,347,997

    TOTAL GDP OF THE USA:
    12,438,873

So this difinetely proves that the USA isn’t the problem. Russia, China, and India produce MORE emissions then the USA. The sad truth is that while these dirty countries are producing MORE emissions, the USA is producing 4 times more GDP. If this doesn’t show you who the problem really is, it just becomes obvious that you don’t truly care about Globabl warming and who the true problem countries are. You really just care about hurting the USA at all costs. The USA is doing a very good job. Sure we could do better, but we aren’t even on the emission map compaired to our competitors.

  69. Roger_Roger Says:

    #66

I accept responsibility for our emissions. Looking at the numbers, our emissions are very good. Russia, China, and India produce MORE emissions combined and yet only produce 1/4 of the output we do. That is something they should be ashamed of. Our efficiency is something I am proud of. If those countries could come close to that, we wouldn’t even have a global warming problem right now.

The Church will be doing alot of praying as begging for forgiveness from God when the Mormons get their turn at the White House. The Church leaders are stealing as much money as they can before Bush is kicked out.
Now we’ll see the Mormons take over and men can have as many wives as they want. Utah will be the new values and morals for the United States.
Mitt will be another Solomon and rule with knee pads. Well it was a good run for the Evangelist and their membership went up as people believed that born again story only to find out it was really born again with Satan.
Maybe the Four Fathers knew it best to keep church out of the government just as God said. But Satan Bush/Cheney used it to trick the public and Karl Rove did his job well. He will be rewarded in hell.

Imagine Falwell warning anyone that they shouldn’t go so far as to be “first class nuts.” Guess he forgot those old homily about “those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”

  72. Roger_Roger Says:

    Furthermore,

Who should the world model itself after if not the USA? The godly emissions countries are places like France, Iceland, Switzerland, Denmark, etc. These countries have failing economies, don’t compete on the world stage, and are already on the verge of social collapse. Please name one country that competes economically with the USA and our partners and is leaps and bounds better then us emissions wise. The average little nothing europe country is still around 3 to 4 GDP per emission. Sadly, all those countries together don’t make up 1/4 of our GDP thus they are meaningless. In the end, if we could someone gain the 1 extra GDP to be like Europe, it would not mean half as much as bringing the other world economic powers simply up to USA standards.

Again, this all proves that the way to save the world from Global Warming is to demand China, Russia, and India get their collective acts together ASAP. Unless your solution is to force the “rest” of the world to adopt extremism emissions wise to Russia, China, and India can continue to pollute freely. Seems like that would be the dumb choice.

Roger, this economy you love to trumpet is literally a house of cards. We have turned into the largest debtor nation in the world. This borrow and spend economy has put us at a huge strategic disadvantage. China could literally cause economic chaos in our country. More commodities are going to the Euro. American productivity trails a number of these European economies you seem to think are failing. Germany is making most of our medical equipment and lots of our pharmaceuticals. Japan is eating our lunch in the automobile market. This phony economy has benefited a small elite class at the very top while rising poverty levels have been further squeezing the middle class. When will you Bush cultists start looking at the real economy instead of regurgitating your cult leader’s cooked numbers?

Bluedog, you are SO right on. House of cards is the perfect metaphor for what we’re dealing with in the U.S. The stock market took a major dive today, second only in recent times to immediately following Sept. 11, 2001. One major cause was a meltdown in the Chinese stock market overnight. “The Shanghai Composite Index, which surged an astonishing 127% in 2006 and is up 13% over the last six sessions, plunged 8.8% — the biggest one-day decline in 10 years. Worries the Chinese government may step up its efforts to curb speculative buying interest have been attributed to the consolidation that has aggravated ongoing concerns about overbought conditions and talks of a correction.” Let’s not forget the enormous amount of American debt OWNED by the Chinese, mostly in the form of U.S. Treasury bonds and securities. You know, the “worthless I.O.U.’s (as Bush said) that are the basis of our Social Security System). If they “ask for their money,” this economy is bankrupt.

  76. stonehinge Says:

Day after day, Roger_Dumb_as_a_Hammer continues to spout the most ludicrous crap imaginable. Today it’s some relative GDP figures.

The main reason that the US has a higher relative GDP figure is because we don’t manufacture anything in the US. Compound that with the fact that we include the cost of housing a massive prisoner population, profits from the derivatives markets, and a host of other non-productive activities in the US GDP further distorts the picture.

I guess it’s a good sign when this kind of obvious misrepresentation is the best that our trolls have to offer.

  78. AshenShard Says:

    #67 Roger_Roger

Your figures are misleading. What is more important is when you consider population. The population of the United States is 300 millions. The population of Russia, India and China 2,552 millions. So, putting together those populations, we count as 10% of the population but are responsible for 49% of the carbon emissions.

And yes, their emissions levels will go up as they grow, but not as much as ours. China has already done a lot of growing, plus their emissions standards are much higher than ours.

  79. Raymond Funamoto Says:

“GLOBAL WARMING IS A MYTH!” Said Jerry Falwell as HE SLOWLY SANK ON THE MELTING ICEBERG HE WAS STANDING ON AND WAS DEVOURED WHOLE BY THE STARVING POLAR BEAR, WHO TRAGICALLY DIED OF FOOD POISONING FROM INGESTING POISONOUS CREEP Jerry!!!!!

  83. Roger_Roger Says:

#77 Population is a horrible measure when discussing emissions. Is doesn’t validate anything as emissions are a function of production. This is the reason the USA has the highest emissions. We produce most of the worlds GDP so it is natural for us to hjave the most emissions.

What is impressive is the fact that Russia, China, and India have more combined emissions yet only produce 1/4 of what we do GDP wise. This is rock solid proof that these are the countries to blame for Global warming. It is sad that these 3 countries are killing this planet. We need to figure out how to shape these countries to be more like the USA emissions wise.

  84. Roger_Roger Says:

Maybe this crowd is for the USA reducing its GDP. We would certainly reduce our emissions that way. We would also hand overa all that potential GDP to China who would produce it using 4 times the emissions we would have wrecking the world even faster!

  85. Jason M Fuxtik Says:

Roger you just aren’t getting it. Besides, if you listened to Jerry, Global Warming is a myth so how can China, India, and Russia be responsible for this myth?

  86. Roger_Roger Says:

#85 Sadly, I get it, yet this crowd refuses to hear the truth. #78 just said we in the USa account for 49% of all emissions yet Russia, China, and India combined account for MORE emissions then the USA. So, you 49% figure is way off. In fact the USA account for roughly 24.3% of the world’s emissions while we also account for 28.16% of the worlds GDP.

    Lets Recap:

    USA:

    Emissions: 24.3%
    GDP: 28.16%

    China, Russia, India:

    Emissions:25.56%
    GDP: 7.57%

HOLY HELL!!! Just please take a look at this numbers, for a second. I am showing you that these 3 countries produce 25% of the world’s emissions which is more then the USA. These countries produce 25% of the emissions to only produce 7.57% of the world’s GDP output. This should prove to even a little child who the problem is. These wasteful countries are buring fossil fuels to produce just about nothing. The USA on the other hand produces 28% of the world’s GDP yet only uses 24% of the world’s emissions. By any standpoint, this proves the USA is on the right track while Russia, China, and India are in fact killing the world.

You can certainly be disturbed by the fact that the USa uses 24% of the world’s emissions, but that should means you are really really pissed that Russia, China, and India use 25% of the world’s emissions yet just about produce nothing. This doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see who the problem is.

  87. Parrotlover77 Says:

This is how you combat this type of thinking. Instead of saying you want change because you are concerned about global warming, cite other examples that polutants have on your life.

    For example…

    - Cars need to be fuel efficient because I don’t like the smell and sight of smog, and more fuel efficient vehicles will help reduce that. (Note: even the biggest Michael Crichton-esque global warming deniers must acknowledge that smog is 100% man-made.)

    - Coal firing plants should be replaced with solar and wind plants because byproducts of coal cause elevations of mercury in fish and I want to be able to fish with my children and eat what we catch. (Note: adding the “with my children” part immediately gains the attention of even the most conservative conservatives.)

Before you know it, you will have conservatives agreeing with environmentalism without even realizing it…

  88. Roger_Roger Says:

#87 This isn’t about denying it or not. This is about what the cost compaired to the benefit it. While eating the fish I catch is important, if it will cost the average American Household an extra $5,000 per year, then the cost isn’t worth the benefit. If you really want to “sell” this stuff to conservatives or anyone for that matter, you need to prove that the cost is nominal compaired to the benefit. If you do that, you then switch the discussion to a “need” instead of a “want”. That my friend is how you sell these things. Now go over to China, Russia, and India and “sell” them the idea of cleaning up there act. It is easy to prove they are the biggest polluters. Show them how to improve production standards to USA levels so there emissions drop to USA standards.

Currently, Russia, China, and India produce 25% of the worlds emissions and only 7% of the worlds GDP. If we could get them to USA standards, they would reduce there emissions to around 7%. If you accomplished that, you just decreased the world emission output by 18% which is HUGE and could potentially be the start of the end of Global Warming. Good Luck sir. I wish you the best!
