Didn’t realise there was this type of information out there

I have to say, that I could not agree with you in 100%, but it’s just my opinion, which could be wrong.

Currently, Russia, China, and India produce 25% of the worlds emissions and only 7% of the worlds GDP. If we could get them to USA standards, they would reduce there emissions to around 7%. If you accomplished that, you just decreased the world emission output by 18% which is HUGE and could potentially be the start of the end of Global Warming. Good Luck sir. I wish you the best!

For example…

- Cars need to be fuel efficient because I don’t like the smell and sight of smog, and more fuel efficient vehicles will help reduce that. (Note: even the biggest Michael Crichton-esque global warming deniers must acknowledge that smog is 100% man-made.)

- Coal firing plants should be replaced with solar and wind plants because byproducts of coal cause elevations of mercury in fish and I want to be able to fish with my children and eat what we catch. (Note: adding the “with my children” part immediately gains the attention of even the most conservative conservatives.)

Before you know it, you will have conservatives agreeing with environmentalism without even realizing it…

Lets Recap:

USA:

Emissions: 24.3%
GDP: 28.16%

China, Russia, India:

Emissions:25.56%
GDP: 7.57%

HOLY HELL!!! Just please take a look at this numbers, for a second. I am showing you that these 3 countries produce 25% of the world’s emissions which is more then the USA. These countries produce 25% of the emissions to only produce 7.57% of the world’s GDP output. This should prove to even a little child who the problem is. These wasteful countries are buring fossil fuels to produce just about nothing. The USA on the other hand produces 28% of the world’s GDP yet only uses 24% of the world’s emissions. By any standpoint, this proves the USA is on the right track while Russia, China, and India are in fact killing the world.

You can certainly be disturbed by the fact that the USa uses 24% of the world’s emissions, but that should means you are really really pissed that Russia, China, and India use 25% of the world’s emissions yet just about produce nothing. This doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see who the problem is.

What is impressive is the fact that Russia, China, and India have more combined emissions yet only produce 1/4 of what we do GDP wise. This is rock solid proof that these are the countries to blame for Global warming. It is sad that these 3 countries are killing this planet. We need to figure out how to shape these countries to be more like the USA emissions wise.

Your figures are misleading. What is more important is when you consider population. The population of the United States is 300 millions. The population of Russia, India and China 2,552 millions. So, putting together those populations, we count as 10% of the population but are responsible for 49% of the carbon emissions.

And yes, their emissions levels will go up as they grow, but not as much as ours. China has already done a lot of growing, plus their emissions standards are much higher than ours.

The main reason that the US has a higher relative GDP figure is because we don’t manufacture anything in the US. Compound that with the fact that we include the cost of housing a massive prisoner population, profits from the derivatives markets, and a host of other non-productive activities in the US GDP further distorts the picture.

I guess it’s a good sign when this kind of obvious misrepresentation is the best that our trolls have to offer.

Bluedog, you are SO right on. House of cards is the perfect metaphor for what we’re dealing with in the U.S. The stock market took a major dive today, second only in recent times to immediately following Sept. 11, 2001. You know, the “worthless I.O.U.’s (as Bush said) that are the basis of our Social Security System). If they “ask for their money,” this economy is bankrupt.
