I have to say, that I could not agree with you in 100%, but it's just my opinion, which could be wrong.

#87 This isn't about denying it or not. This is about what the cost compaired to the benefit it. While eating the fish I catch is important, if it will cost the average American Household an extra $5,000 per year, then the cost isn't worth the benefit. If you really want to "sell" this stuff to conservatives or anyone for that matter, you need to prove that the cost is nominal compaired to the benefit. If you do that, you then switch the discussion to a "need" instead of a "want". That my friend is how you sell these things. Now go over to China, Russia, and India and "sell" them the idea of cleaning up there act. It is easy to prove they are the biggest polluters. Show them how to improve production standards to USA levels so there emissions drop to USA standards.

Currently, Russia, China, and India produce 25% of the worlds emissions and only 7% of the worlds GDP. If we could get them to USA standards, they would reduce there emissions to around 7%. If you accomplished that, you just decreased the world emission output by 18% which is HUGE and could potentially be the start of the end of Global Warming. Good Luck sir. I wish you the best!

This is how you combat this type of thinking. Instead of saying you want change because you are concerned about global warming, cite other examples that polutants have on your life.

For example...

- Cars need to be fuel efficient because I don't like the smell and sight of smog, and more fuel efficient vehicles will help reduce that. (Note: even the biggest Michael Crichton-esque global warming deniers must acknowledge that smog is 100% man-made.)

- Coal firing plants should be replaced with solar and wind plants because byproducts of coal cause elevations of mercury in fish and I want to be able to fish with my children and eat what we catch. (Note: adding the "with my children" part immediately gains the attention of even the most conservative conservatives.)

Before you know it, you will have conservatives agreeing with environmentalism without even realizing it...

#85 Sadly, I get it, yet this crowd refuses to hear the truth. #78 just said we in the USa account for 49% of all emissions yet Russia, China, and India combined account for MORE emissions then the USA. So, you 49% figure is way off. In fact the USA account for roughly 24.3% of the world's emissions while we also account for 28.16% of the worlds GDP.

Lets Recap:

USA:

Emissions: 24.3%
GDP: 28.16%

China, Russia, India:

Emissions:25.56%
GDP: 7.57%

HOLY HELL!!! Just please take a look at this numbers, for a second. I am showing you that these 3 countries produce 25% of the world's emissions which is more then the USA. These countries produce 25% of the emissions to only produce 7.57% of the world's GDP output. This should prove to even a little child who the problem is. These wasteful countries are buring fossil fuels to produce just about nothing. The USA on the other hand produces 28% of the world's GDP yet only uses 24% of the world's emissions. By any standpoint, this proves the USA is on the right track while Russia, China, and India are in fact killing the world.

You can certainly be disturbed by the fact that the USa uses 24% of the world's emissions, but that should means you are really really pissed that Russia, China, and India use 25% of the world's emissions yet just about produce nothing. This doesn't take a rocket scientist to see who the problem is.

Maybe this crowd is for the USA reducing its GDP. We would certainly reduce our emissions that way. We would also hand overa all that potential GDP to China who would produce it using 4 times the emissions we would have wrecking the world even faster!

#77 Population is a horrible measure when discussing emissions. Is doesn't validate anything as emissions are a function of production. This is the reason the USA has the highest emissions. We produce most of the worlds GDP so it is natural for us to hjave the most emissions.

What is impressive is the fact that Russia, China, and India have more combined emissions yet only produce 1/4 of what we do GDP wise. This is rock solid proof that these are the countries to blame for Global warming. It is sad that these 3 countries are killing this planet. We need to figure out how to shape these countries to be more like the USA emissions wise.

Your figures are misleading. What is more important is when you consider population. The population of the United States is 300 millions. The population of Russia, India and China 2,552 millions. So, putting together those populations, we count as 10% of the population but are responsible for 49% of the carbon emissions.

And yes, their emissions levels will go up as they grow, but not as much as ours. China has already done a lot of growing, plus their emissions standards are much higher than ours.

Day after day, Roger_Dumb_as_a_Hammer continues to spout the most ludicrous crap imaginable. Today it's some relative GDP figures.

The main reason that the US has a higher relative GDP figure is because we don't manufacture anything in the US. Compound that with the fact that we include the cost of housing a massive prisoner population, profits from the derivatives markets, and a host of other non-productive activities in the US GDP further distorts the picture.

I guess it's a good sign when this kind of obvious misrepresentation is the best that our trolls have to offer.

Roger, this economy you love to trumpet is literally a house of cards. We have turned into the largest debtor nation in the world. This borrow and spend economy has put us at a huge strategic disadvantage. China could literally cause economic chaos in our country. More commodities are going to the Euro. American productivity trails a number of these European economies you seem to think are failing. Germany is making most of our medical equipment and lots of our pharmaceuticals. Japan is eating our lunch in the automobile market. This phony economy has benefited a small elite class at the very top while rising poverty levels have been further squeezing the middle class. When will you Bush cultists start looking at the real economy instead of regurgitating your cult leader’s cooked numbers?

Bluedog, you are SO right on. House of cards is the perfect metaphor for what we're dealing with in the U.S. The stock market took a major dive today, second only in recent times to immediately following Sept. 11, 2001. One major cause was a meltdown in the Chinese stock market overnight. "The Shanghai Composite Index, which surged an astonishing 127% in 2006 and is up 13% over the last six sessions, plunged 8.8% -- the biggest one-day decline in 10 years. Worries the Chinese government may step up its efforts to curb speculative buying interest have been attributed to the consolidation that has aggravated ongoing concerns about overbought conditions and talks of a correction." Let's not forget the enormous amount of American debt OWNED by the Chinese, mostly in the form of U.S. Treasury bonds and securities. You know, the "worthless I.O.U.'s (as Bush said) that are the basis of our Social Security System). If they "ask for their money," this economy is bankrupt.
