Bush was right.

By Nico Pitney on Feb 28th, 2007 at 7:59 pm

Bush was right.

Yesterday, ThinkProgress highlighted a quote on military readiness from candidate George W. Bush in 2000:

So let’s get something straight right now. To point out that our military has been overextended, taken for granted and neglected, that’s no criticism of the military. That is criticism of a president and vice president and their record of neglect.

Hours later, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) reminded Bush again on the House floor:

[flv http://video.thinkprogress.org/2007/02/wasschultz.320.240.flv]

So when the right talks about “slow bleed,” or tries to cover up their neglect of the military by citing the stellar performance of our soldiers, remember who’s really at fault.

No, he’ll just deny that our military is overextended at all.

Patrick1 is a marvelous specimen of the neocon breed…denial of reality comes as easily to him as breathing. No rational argument can touch him, as he operates entirely outside the realm of logic.

So where are all of the Republicans who were complaining about the military being unprepared under Clinton.

All this from the Party which values lawyers on the front line of national defense (as evidenced by $600,000 spent on the federal 9/11 investigation and $40,000,000 spent on Clinton’s investigation)…. and not the military.

  15. Angry One says:

On the Larry King show Monday, First Lady Laura Bush demonstrated that the Bush family’s legendary compassion deficit is contagious, if not genetic. Even as daily attacks in Iraq climbed to an average of 230 last month, Mrs. Bush casually dismissed the suffering of American troops and Iraqi civilians alike:

“Many parts of Iraq are stable now. But, of course, what we see on television is the one bombing a day that discourages everybody.”

Interesting comment from a troll who pretends to be a lawyer.

  17. DB says:

Again, my opponent and I have different approaches. I proposed, and the Congress overwhelmingly passed, $87 billion in funding needed by our troops doing battle in Afghanistan and Iraq. My opponent and his running mate voted against this money for bullets, and fuel, and vehicles, and body armor. When asked to explain his vote, the Senator said, “I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it.” Then he said he was “proud” of that vote. Then, when pressed, he said it was a “complicated” matter. There is nothing complicated about supporting our troops in combat.

As opposed to the “fast bleed” when Cheney gutted the military? Or were you just referring to the “slow bleed” in Iraq, where 150,000 troops could be categorized this way? You can’t possibly be talking about Dem congressmembers neglecting the military, when Dems have much higher ‘grades’ on their voting habits than you Cons have.

All this from the Party which values lawyers on the front line of national defense (as evidenced by the first WTC bombing trial)…. and not the military. Comment by valiant venus — February 28, 2007 @ 8:39 pm

What’s wrong wanna-be laywer, afraid to be on the front line of america’s defense? That explains why an Anorexic c*nt like you is too cowardly to put your own ugly *ss on the line in Iraq!

Oh, and was that the WTC that produced convictions? Or would you be referring to the complete lack of trials from this WTC attack trial? It’s pretty hard to put Osama behind bars, when you don’t even care enough to catch the ‘Koranimal’ that attacked us? Isn’t that right – Valiant Toranimal?

  21. jd21 says:

And this after Cheney gets rebuffed by our “ally” Pakistan. And Hersch reports we are funding Sunni extremists in Northern Lebanon who may be linked to al Qaeda. And by the way we just found out bin Ladin is probably alive and well in all those training camps in Northern Pakistan that Pakistan says don’t exist.

If this weren’t our national security policy, it would be a hilarious joke.

These Republicans and their Fox mouthpiece have sung America to sleep. We have forgotten that we as taxpaying citizens are entitled to good government with well-thought-out foreign policies based in fact and logic.

Oh well. Goodnight everybody. And good luck.

She had devised a whole persona — high class attorney, owned her own firm, married with children, veteran, private schools, condescending attitude, etc. You name it, she had experience with it. Called herself “Mighty Aphrodite.” We always knew she was a fake, but she busted herself when she told an “amusing” anecdote about her alleged dead child. Those of us who are parents knew that was a total lie. Someone here on TP busted her wide open by finding her MySpace page.

Now she has the nerve to keep coming back here, even though we all know exactly what she is. She’s so pitiful and desperate for attention, she keeps coming here.

Indian American Boy is World’s Youngest Doctor

    By TANIA ANAND

NEW YORK: Bala Murali Ambati, a New York-based Indian-American,
staked his claim to become the world’s youngest doctor when he
graduated last week from Mt. Sinai Medical School, two months
before his 18th birthday. The New York state legislature has had to
pass a special exception allowing Bala to practice medicine because
he is still far below the required age of 21.

Bala is now headed for an internship at North Shore University
Hospital and will be moving on to the Massachusetts Eye and Ear
Infirmary at Harvard Medical School for residency in ophthalmology next
    year.
Asked how they felt about the achievement, while Bala responded
with a subdued ‘I feel very good,’ his mother, Gomathi, was more
emphatic in her joy. ‘We had a plan. We did it!’ she said with a
    proud glance at her son.

Interestingly, while Bala’s achievement has attracted global media
spotlight and the family has been receiving phone calls and letters
from congressmen, senators and all kinds of well-wishers over the
past week, no Indian or Indian-American association has even
    acknowledged Bala’s feat.

Bala received an award for excellence in communication of science
from the American Medical Association for a book on AIDS he co-
authored with his brother when he was just 11.

Teen-Ager Graduates as Possibly World’s Youngest MD

    Reuters (05/19/95)
    McCool, Grant
On Friday, a New York teenager became the youngest medical doctor in the world. Seventeen-year-old Balamurali Ambati graduated from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, fulfilling his childhood goal. “About 10 years ago I was reading the Guinness Book of World Records and saw the youngest doctor graduated in Italy at 18 years and three months old, so I thought I’d try it,” said Ambati, who was granted an exception to practice medicine by the New York state legislature even though he is under the minimum age of 21. The teenager also co-authored a book on AIDS when he was 11 with his then 17- year-old brother Jayakrishna, who is also a doctor. “AIDS, The True Story: A Comprehensive Guide,” designed to educate young people about the disease, is in its second printing. The two brothers have also written a book on the environment. Ambati’s next move will be residency training in opthalmology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School.
