“Democrats in both the House of Representatives and the Senate vowed to hold a new round of hearings to determine if partisan politics played a role in the firings of eight U.S. attorneys across the country. … The controversy flared up early Wednesday afternoon after David Iglesias, the departing U.S. attorney from New Mexico, told McClatchy Newspapers that he believes he was forced out because he refused to speed up an indictment of local Democrats a month before November’s congressional elections.” TPM is covering the story closely, and has fingered Rep. Heather Wilson (R-NM) as the likely member of Congress who requested the rushed indictment. Carpetbagger has a wrap-up.
Excellent! Heather chokes on her kool-ade?
"Ultimately, the Past catches up!"
February 28th, 2007 at 9:30 pmTechnically, the Attorneys were asked to resign for "performance reasons." They performed their jobs to the highest ethical standards, and that is just unacceptable to the Bush Administration.
And these "resignations" clear the way for the Bush Administration to fill the vacancies - without Senate approval - with political hacks. So, Mighty Aphrodite - er, Valiant Venus, have you submitted your resume yet?
February 28th, 2007 at 9:33 pmI never liked that Heather Wilson, anyway. She is a lying tramp and is not to be trusted, unlike my sons.
February 28th, 2007 at 9:45 pmChimpy and Gonzo are stacking the deck.
And its all perfectly legal thanks to the Patriot Act.
They'll fire Fitzgerald next.
February 28th, 2007 at 10:11 pmMethinks, Heather is toast.
February 28th, 2007 at 10:51 pmI wish that one day very soon, we will see the Dems actually hold a hearing that results in something.
February 28th, 2007 at 11:44 pmThere are so many areas that need investigation and I know they are holding hearings, but I m growing impatient for results. I want to see them use their power and start knocking down the abusers.
Better to hold impeachment hearings for Bush and Cheney, than to bother having an investigation of this event.
March 1st, 2007 at 1:53 amin response to Marie (comment#5), bravo, I couldn't say it any better.
March 1st, 2007 at 3:07 amI hear tell that Bush will put Jim Bibb in. He lost to Gary King for the AG post in NM. Iglesias is surprised about this. Hahahaha. He did the Republicans bidding in NM and when it didn't work, this is how they repay him. hahaha.
I am sure, knowing my representatives, that it was probably Steve Pearce (R-NM) and Senator Pete Domenici (R-NM) who asked Iglesias about the investigation and indictments. I can bet my life on that one. Domenici should know better, he's an attorney. But of course, Heather Wilson, can also be one of those who called him, she's a liar too. BIG TIME.

March 1st, 2007 at 12:41 pmIt is being reported here in New Mexico that the front runner as a replacement for David Iglesias is the DEFENSE attorny for former state treas. Vigil, who was indicted by Iglesias and convicted of fraud. Steve "Bush-butt licker" Pearce, Pete "Pencil-dick" Domenici and Heather "Half out of the closet" Wilson all are pushing to put a Republican goose-stepper into the office.
