Ney’s got friends in low places.

Ney’s got friends in low places.

“Former Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, expresses remorse and quotes singer/songwriter Garth Brooks in an e-mail sent to friends Wednesday, a day before he is to enter federal prison after pleading guilty to corruption charges.” Ney’s letter quotes lyrics from Brooks’ song “The Dance.”

and now i’m glad i didn’t know
the way it all would end, the way it all would go
our lives are better left to chance,
i could have missed the pain,
but i’d have had to miss, the dance

That’s just beautiful. If I wasn’t such a cold-hearted bag of wind, bones and extraneous fecal matter, I might be able to shed a tear over that one.

  2. s says:

What he’s saying is it was fun to be bad. Ass

He should have said “It wasn’t a “dance” worth being a thug for”

  3. Zooey says:

Ney, darling, that song is about love and passion — not dirty low-down Republican corruption.

I suggest instead [I Hate] Everything About You, by Ugly Kid Joe.

  4. Sharon says:

Well that will go over real well with the pretend cowboy in chief….

  5. Marie says:

    How poetic.
That he is going to jail is poetry also.

  6. fastneataverage says:

time to dance a different dance…. I hope he knows how to follow

Sounds like he’s enjoying prison – *cough*. Wonder who his new ‘dancing-partner’ is!

  8. Mike says:

Heh. By “the pain” he means non-consensual sex forced on him by a guy who used to run a meth lab.

  9. big papa says:

    “Do da dawg baby”…

  10. Raymond Funamoto says:

Better that Bob Ney should’ve quoted:
    “A Bunch of the repug-repubs were whooping it up at the Malamute saloon;
    The butt-boy that handles the music-box was hitting a sod-time tune;
Back of the bar, in a solo game, sat Dangerous Tom DeLay,
And watching his luck was his light-o’-love, the lady that’s known as Jack Abramoff–PLAY-FOR-PAY…”
(With APOLOGIES to the Late, Great Mr. Robert W. Service)

  11. tom baker says:

Ney: “Crime totally pays. I’m glad I did it. My Republican’t buds are going to hook me up bigtime when I get out!”

  12. Raven says:

“if you can’t find a partner,
    use a wooden chair……
    lets rock, everybody lets rock,
    dance to the jailhouse rock……”

  13. mandolin says:

Quoting Garth Brooks as your farewell message before your incarceration is the lamest thing I’ve ever heard of.

  14. Quadrajet says:

Ah, so like Libby I guess Ney is a member of the republican “Criminal Poet’s Society”. I thought that most folks found god when they’re looking at doin’ time – but Ney finds Garth Brooks? These guys are a hoot.

  15. barrelhse says:

    White men can’t dance.

  16. NoOneYouKnow says:

Is it just me, or does Ney’s use of that quote mean that he’s got no regrets?
