Gen. Clark And Jon Soltz Launch StopIranWar.com

VoteVets.org has teamed up with Gen. Wesley Clark to promote a new campaign warning against a military strike on Iran. StopIranWar.com is calling on Americans to build political pressure on U.S. policymakers to work with our allies and use every diplomatic, political, and economic option at our disposal to deal with Iran.

In a web-ad released today, Clark warns, “We’re approaching the last moments in which the administration can change its policy and head off a looming confrontation with Iran.” Watch it:

Take action here.

Also today, the Center for American Progress released a progressive strategy to resolve the Iranian nuclear problem: “Contain and Engage.”

Rather than pursue the faint hope that coercive measures will force Iran’s capitulation, our contain-and-engage strategy couples the pressures created by sanctions, diplomatic isolation and investment freezes with practical compromises and realizable security assurances to encourage Iran onto a verifiable, non-nuclear weapons path.

Jon Soltz: I’m Jon Soltz, Iraq war veteran and chairman of VoteVets.org

Gen. Wes Clark: I’m retired General Wes Clark

Jon Soltz: Today we’re here to launch StopIranWar.com which is a joint website from the groups VoteVets.org and General Wesley Clark’s WesPAC.

Gen. Wes Clark: We’re here to talk about something that’s very, very important, right now.
We’re approaching the last moments in which the administration can change its policy and head off a looming confrontation with Iran.

Gen. Wes Clark: It’s a confrontation that has enormous consequences for the Middle East, for our troops on the ground in Iraq, and for all of us here, in America.

And we’re asking you to come to our new website, to learn about what’s going on and to learn how you can take action and be involved in helping put an end to an erroneous foreign policy, that’s been put forth by the Bush Administration.

Jon Soltz: See all the facts at our new website: StopIranWar.com

Gen. Wes Clark: And sign the petition today. Thank You.

The Congress needs to send a message to the chymp.
    Iran is off limits.
    If you reach,
    we’ll impeach.

  2. wingnutt says:

stop iran war? we’re not at war with iran. how can we stop something that isn’t taking place?

    haha.

  3. Anonymous By Choice says:

Here’s a tagline to get people involved:

“If you don’t stop Americas terrorist actions, Iran will nuke and kill us all.”

    or shorten it some:

“Stop war with Iran if you don’t want to die.”

I hate scare tactics, but if you’re gonna use em – use em well. Help them out, or die. Or have loved ones die. Your family burnt and blown to dust. Your cute little puppy now a pile of burnt hair and bones. You really want that you clueless bastards?

  4. ForTruth says:

I don’t get Clark, he was just on TV the other day talking about how Iran is definately involved in Iraq.

  5. veritas says:

Wesley Clark is beginning to look like a potential ‘contender” for the presidency; after all, he was one with intelligence, morality, and foresight to vote NO to give Bush the power to launch into the Iraq war, wasn’t he? He, along with Kucinich and Feingold has the presence of mind (20/20 at the time and not “hindsight” like Hillary, Edward, Biden, McCain, and Lieberman) and the integrity to stand up for their beliefs. Perhaps it will be “CLARK/OBAMA” IN 08? Or even…”OBAMA/CLARK” IN 08?? Either way, they’d get the backing of the anti-war camp which is growing by leaps and bounds each and every day that this demented war continues…..and continues to drain our economy…..and continues to drain the democratic spirit of this country……

Bush is pushing for war, therefore it is a future looking statement of “Stop the Iran war from happening.

wingnutt has pointed something out that is very important.

This needs to be dumbed down, so people like wingnutt understand what it means.

  9. Chris says:

To quote General Omar Bradley, “the wrong war, in the wrong place and against the wrong enemy.”

  10. veritas says:

Unfortunately, we’ve entered into a very dangerous and fatally karmic zone with our invasion of Iraq….a war in which we never belonged but placed ourselves amid – by choice. Having no legitimate business in their civil war which has been waged for centuries but inserting ourselves just the same means that, in the eyes of every country in the world, we are the agressors and will probably suffer the fate of one stepping out of bounds in a very serious way….at the hands of a coalition of all of the rest of the world. This one singular & fateful step into the Middle East has made us now the target of every other country on the planet. Huge mistake! Now we will be dodging bullets from every direction – and someday there will be too many for us to realistically dodge. After all, how many “enemies” can one fight at the same time? We certainly are no longer the super power we once were (or thought we were).

  11. veritas says:

P.S. Thanks to Bush and his cadre of corrupt sycophants, this country has degenerated and is in danger of falling into a self-styled “abyss”!

  12. veritas says:

#9 You got it! And those three items are the “prescription for disaster”…. any one of those terms (the wrong war) (the wrong place) or (the wrong enemy) can mean defeat but we’ve got all three going for us right now so we are doomed to failure. Besides, no one has ever adequately told us ‘WHO ARE THE ENEMIES?”. Without a defined enemy, there can be no “war”…..without a defined enemy and without a defined war, there can certainly be no “plan”…and so the circlejerk goes….BTW, “who’s on first”?? This country certainly can’t answer that one these days…every day/another WH fire to put out! I hope someone’s keeping a good journal of the past 6 years – it will be a “best-seller” someday.

You would consider General Omar Bradley an “appeaser’? So, what level of history is your ninth grade class studying?

  16. Roger_Roger says:

I am all for talking Iran down from their current path towards Nuclear weapons, but we can’t take the outside chance of war completely off the table. In the end, we need to make sure they are not enriching Uranium. If they won’t stop through diplomacy, we really don’t have another option but to bomb all nuclear sites at a minimum.

I pray is doesn’t come to that, but it doesn’t look good right now. They haven’t even stopped enriching uranium which means we don’t even have the opportunity to sit down and talk. What can we honestly accomplish if they won’t even stop enrichment?

  17. stanman says:

I think we should let Iran wife Israel off the face of the earth like their leader wants. I mean, Iran is a country that takes care of its citizens and really is an example of how the middle east should be. Let them get the nuke, if they use it on Israel great.

You sound like Hitler – pre-emptive strike now! You’re a st*pid old c*nt! Why is it you believe Israel has a right to Nukes, and Iran doesn’t? Israel is the country that has invaded every neighbor it touches – not Iran.

Yet you fcuking fools still worship at the alter of Reagan. It was Carter that wouldn’t appease Iran – it was Reagan that appeased and rewarded them with weapons in order to win an election. You Conservatives are fcuking fools.

  24. Chris says:

    Roger_Roger, Stanman,

For one, we have had no credible intelligence that Iran is even trying to get nuclear weaponry. Even if they are, it will be at least five years before they have anything usable. A lot of diplomacy and change can happen in five years. Also, Israel has loads of nuclear weaponry, so they can defend themselves. Israel also has an open arms trade with China and refuses to sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, which Iran has agreed to. So, I’m not so sure Israel would wait to be attacked.

#24- Actually, it was my George who worked out the Iran-Contra details. Ronnie was far too gone, at that point. Now, my son George is repeating history once again, funneling money to the insurgent al Qaida through the Sunni. Is he not just like his daddy? I am one proud mother, I must tell you.

    I agree.
Recently a new student from Pakistan came to the lab to make his PhD in Numerical methods for Fluid Mechanics, which can be related to a nuclear facility, possibly one where they can make nukes that can be sold to Iran. He told me he speak Urdu and taught me some words like Hello, and see you later, you know, all terrorist code talk. He is neat, polite, a frequent smiler and quiet, like any terrorist, thats for sure.

I know he is from Pakistan, which is an “ally” of US, but we all know those brownies are all the same and will trade their numerical simulation of some fluid mechanics problem to Iranian terrorists. I should keep an eye on him, just to make you feel more comfortable that no terrorist gets a free ride, buddy.

  29. Chris says:

    Patrick1,

Trivia question for you: Who is the only country to have ever used nuclear weaponry on civilians? You should look it up on Google and impress your homeroom teacher in the morning!

  30. Mary Poplins says:

Can’t we just impeach old Bush and Cheney and get this over with? Then we will have a woman President. Which we need badly.

  31. Sharon says:

  32. Goehl says:

Bush denies he is going to war with Iran… Congerss is playing dumb about a possible Iran war…

But we all know this is what Bush is going to do and by doing so will completely screw this world up

  33. Gregor Samsa says:

Gen Clark has become part of the vast left-wing conspiracy bent on making Pres Bush look bad.

(Because, as we all know, he didn’t look bad before)

    /sarcasm off

  34. valiant venus says:

I wish Wes Clark would admonish the Mullahs & Ahmidinejead as much as he chastises George Bush. Radical Muslims believe it is permissible to lie to the “infidel”. And these are the Koranimals Wes Clark wants to “reason” with…..
