The only problem with the reporting of this story is that it keeps referring to the disenfranchisement of Black voters. Although that is quite true, the fact is that what these people are doing is disenfranchising ALL Democrats, regardless of their color.

So, where are the emails that were erroneously sent? We could sure use those surfacing right about now. Also, has anyone thought to fully look into the pasts and track records of the other replacement attorneys? I'm extremely interested to see what comes to the surface when inquiries are made regarding the newbies.

Without doubt, at least some if not all have some past history of being hacks and thugs. Why would Bu$h change course here and now, afterall? It is what he is, it's all he's ever hired, it's all he's ever known.

Gonzalez needs to be impeached, then his boss and his boss's boss (Bu$h and Cheney respectively) so that this country can get on with the healing and reparations that are going to last for GENERATIONS.

This is more of the same check it out....More from WaPo:

Sharon Eubanks said Bush loyalists in Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' office began micromanaging the team's strategy in the final weeks of the 2005 trial, to the detriment of the government's claim that the industry had conspired to lie to U.S. smokers.

She said a supervisor demanded that she and her trial team drop arguments that tobacco executives be removed from their corporate positions as a possible penalty. He and two others instructed her to tell key witnesses to change their testimony. And they ordered Eubanks to read verbatim from a closing argument they rewrote for her, she said.

``The political people were pushing the buttons and ordering us to say what we said,'' Eubanks said. ``And because of that, we failed to zealously represent the interests of the American public.''

Eubanks, who served for 22 years as a lawyer at Justice, said three political appointees were responsible for the last-minute shifts in the government's tobacco case in June 2005: then-Associate Attorney General Robert McCallum, then-Assistant Attorney General Peter Keisler, and his deputy at the time, Dan Meron.

Do you believe this shit?
End result:

News reports on the strategy changes at the time caused an uproar in Congress and sparked an inquiry by the Justice Department. Government witnesses said they had been asked to change testimony and one expert withdrew from the case. Government lawyers also announced that they were scaling back a proposed penalty against the industry from $130 billion to $10 billion.

Was this the big enchillada they were trying to hide?
It is pretty GOD DAMNED BIG!
If there is more, OMG.
I can't wait to hear it.
This showdown is REAL, and it is a REAL constitutional crisis.
To me, this is looking more significant than Watergate.
EAT it trolls

I am a reasonably articulate person who happens to believe that there are moments when the use of profanity is the most accurate way to express the depth of my feelings.

And I am apologizing in advance to any third party who might be offended by my choice of words. Obviously, those who are the target(s) of my disdain are exempt from my contrition.

I would caution, however, that those who read my words do so against the backdrop of my entire post. To experience knee-jerk outrage over a single hot-button word puts one squarely in Karl Rove's target audience.

How can this guy maintain all of his power and authority by remaining "interim?" This is utter BS. If congressional approval can be bypassed this easily, then we're in big trouble. And allowing interims to serve for an unlimited time was a provision snuck into the "patriot act" at the last minute... Now why would a law abiding, honest administration seek to allow judges to be appointed for an unlimited time with no congressional approval?
To all the wingnuts: For everyone of these outrageous actions, ask yourself "Would this piss me off if Democrats did it? Would the Republics be all over it like profit on Halliburton? Or like roaches on a wounded soldier?"
Also to all wingnuts who say that opening mail, reading email, monitoring phone calls, pulling bank records, etc, are all OK if you have nothing to hide: If this guy has nothing to hide, then why won't he testify under oath? Since it's not OK to him, by your own "logic" he has something to hide.
(I know, I know: A -> ~B /->/ ~B -> A)

Personally, I'd like to see a law that says that EVERYTHING stated by a politician in public, or at least at a press conference, considered to be under oath (even if being under oath is a sin against Christ, which the "Christians" in gov't don't seem to be aware of.)
Then statements like:
1) "We're not wiretapping Americans."
2) "We are wiretapping, but we're getting warrants."
3) "We are doing warrantless wiretapping."
Would be under oath. And since no two can be true at the same time, much less all three, then one or more must be a, hmmm, what's the word I'm looking for.. ahh.. LIE. Which is also a sin. Not a good action by a dude who talks to god.

 for it is God's throne;
35 nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it
is the city of the great King.
36 Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black.
37 But let your "Yes' be "Yes,' and your "No,' "No.'

Dick Cheney was right about one thing.
The insugency is in its last throes.

The insurgeny of the Republican party may be in its last days after all of these hearings.

It seems to me the Repuplcians have an affinity for the dark ages.

As long as they are kept in the dark everything is fine.

Being offended by a word is silly. Especially when that word isn't aimed at you.

The people who claim the word 'c**t' is offensive to all women apparently haven't met ALL women, because I know a few that use it quite well.

Besides, country music is more offensive than any word. But I don't call for a ban on it, I just make fun of people that have such bad hearing that they listen to it.
