REPORT: CPAC Speakers Run From Bush Record

bushaloneAt last week’s Conservative Political Action Conference, attendees gathered to hear partisan attacks against progressives from the likes of Ann Coulter and former Swift Boat Veterans For Truth.

All the mud-slinging from the right obscured the fact that rarely was the name of the current sitting president ever mentioned. Bush’s job approval rests at one of its lowest points — 29 percent. Moreover, his rating among conservatives has dropped 13 points since last fall. Now, 65 percent of his base says they approve of the way he is handling his job as president, compared with 78 percent last October.

A review of the prominent keynote speeches from speakers at the CPAC conference reveals that many of them view the Bush effect more as albatross than an advantage:

FORMER GOV. MITT ROMNEY: Mentions of Bush: 0. Mentions of Ronald Reagan: 2.

FORMER GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Mentions of Bush: 1. Mentions of Reagan: 0. In the sole reference, Huckabee said, “I supported the Bush tax cuts in 2001. I still support them today.”

SEN. SAM BROWNBACK: Mentions of Bush: 1. Mentions of Reagan: 2. The only reference Brownback made to Bush was when he said, “On Social Security — and President Bush, God bless him, started this debate and discussion [about] personal Social Security accounts.”

REP. DUNCAN HUNTER: Mentions of Bush: 0. Mentions of Reagan: 5.

RUDY GIULIANI: Mentions of Bush: 4. Mentions of Reagan: 15. One of Guiliani’s few references to Bush’s record was the following statement: “You’re going to succeed at some things, fail at others.”

To my addled brain, given the statistics quoted (65% of 29%), there are 18.8% of the people in this Country that “approve” of DUHbya’s Presidency. Why, OH, Why is that silly fool still in office? I will offer 10 times my usual odds of $20 to a glass of warm pee that there are more degenerates in any category you want to name than there are supporters for DUHbya. Rethuglican Senators and Representatives in Washington is one of the categories. I just started naming the categories but Granny called for dinner. Prove me wrong!

Easy, we’ll start criticizing the new president for his/her policies and discuss the pros and cons of actions they take, be outraged when the presidents actions warrant such reaction and pleased when they do something positive for this country and the world, no matter if the president is Democratic, Republican, or Independent.

It is a fact that he NEVER flew a combat ready military aircraft in a sortie against an armed enemy. I just flew six fighter jets tonight–all of them in the spa part of our pool. The problem with this post, is it presumes bush ’served’, as in his duty. The fact that bad ‘keyboard-soldiers’ like you give cowards like bush a pass, while smearing real heroes – is typical of the ‘he-man’ gannon set. He’s a real ‘macho’ man too, just like you, we’re sure! Do some ‘googling’, you’ll find Gannon had a ‘military-theme’ website, just like your fetish!

Clyde; I flew around in combat ready Hueys with the Marines, looking for the shit. Does that count?

  68. US A Patriot says:

    http://www.wingmenforbush.com

    6. George W. Bush served for almost two years on active duty.
Bush was no “weekend warrior” by any means. His first two years of enlistment in the Air National Guard involved full-time, active duty service. This included basic training (6 weeks), USAF flight training (1 year), survival training (2 weeks), combat crew training (6+ months) and local checkout (3 months).

For 53 weeks during his 1968-1969 Undergraduate Pilot Training, Bush served in the same schools and under the same demanding instructors as regular Air Force officers. As a member of Class 70-04, he endured a grueling combination of academics, officer training (leadership), and flight training. He was the only Air National Guard pilot in a class of Air Force high achievers. He earned his pilot rating, his wings, and his commission. Bush next performed additional active duty training to become qualified in the F-102 weapons system, which was at a joint USAF/ANG training school at Ellington AFB, Texas. He also performed additional active duty by sitting runway alert under North American Air Defense (NORAD) command. This service was no different than the fighters flying over our cities since 9/11.

    7. George W. Bush volunteered to serve in Vietnam following his flight training.
After his training at Moody AFB and Ellington ANG Base, George W. Bush and his fellow aviator Fred Bradley, sought service in Vietnam. In an article for the National Review, author Jed Babbin wrote that Bush and Bradley, “Both were junior lieutenants without a lot of flying experience. But the inexperience didn’t prevent Bush — along with Bradley — from going to their squadron leaders to see if they could get into a program called ‘Palace Alert.’ ‘There were four of us lieutenants at the time, and we were all fairly close. Two of them had more flight time than the president and me, said Bradley.’ All four volunteered for Vietnam (Bradley doesn’t remember whether he and Bush actually signed paperwork, but he specifically remembers both Bush and himself trying to get into the Palace Alert Vietnam program.) Bush and Bradley were turned away, and the two more senior pilots went to Vietnam.”

    8. George W. Bush risked his life flying dangerous Cold War Air Defense Alert missions.
In joining the 147th Fighter Interceptor Group, Bush flew with an elite unit that had been recognized in 1966 as, “The most combat ready of all Air Guard units,” through an Air Force Outstanding Unit award. Bush’s squadron mate, Lt. Col Campenni described their unit’s role, “In the Cold War, the air defense of the United States was borne primarily by the Air National Guard, by such people as Lt. Bush and me and a lot of others. Six of those with whom I served in those years never made their 30th birthdays because they died in crashes flying air-defense missions. While most of America was sleeping and Mr. Kerry was playing antiwar games with Hanoi Jane Fonda, we were answering 3 a.m. scrambles for who knows what inbound threat over the Canadian sub arctic, the cold North Atlantic, and the shark-filled Gulf of Mexico. We were the pathfinders in showing that the Guard and Reserves could become reliable members of the first team in the total force, so proudly evidenced today in Afghanistan and Iraq.”

Do your personal homework and connect those important dots….it’s all coming out as the sick, twisted truth unravels….much to the deep chagrin of Pappy and Dubya. (BTW, has anyone noted that Laura seems to be AWOL these days??? What has SHE done in any noteworthy way as “First Lady” during these 6 long years?)

I realize that the unofficial poll has Dumbya as the ALL TIME WORST PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES; however, perhaps it can be a “shared award”? We can then say that THE BUSHES were the worst president(s) ever in the history of this country.

  93. veritas says:

#88 are you referring to Bush’s frat days and some of the sick rituals he participated in there? Just wondering….and, yes, we’ve all heard some of the smug, girlie-man comments he’s made to people around him which may account, in part, for some of the tabloid fodder of late regarding Laura desiring a divorce?? Hmmm.

I find it odd that Brownback touts private accounts for Social Security during a period of extreme turmoil in the financial markets. People don’t need there retirement money at the extreme risk today’s markets reflect. Brownback has something in common with the Captain of the Titanic.

Why are they running from her? That’s their base!!!. These are the party stalwarts, the ones in control, the ones with the “super-delegates”, the ones any serious contender to the Republican presidential nomination need in their court to win. Yes, these are the ones that were laughing.

Well, back to the “code words” … the “dog whistle” approach … I guess.

    Cheers,

    …and idolatry is wrong…

    …lying and bearing false witness…

    … is also wrong…

    …being STUPID is herditary…

  100. Aggressive Progressive says:

Bush completed his training, and by all accounts, was a decent pilot. However, the former Lt. Governor of Texas did a favor by allowing him to join the Tejas Air National Guard in the first place, so he could avoid the draft and fly jets. He said so in a rally where he was announcing his support for Kerry. He also apologized for his actions. (It’s on U Tube, baby) Following his training, Bush failed to show up for a scheduled physical, probably because that would have all of cemented a Vietnam tour. I’m sure it’s quite expensive to train a pilot, especially if there is no return on your investment. The taxpayers were bilked, big time. Then, he was magically transferred to Alabama. (Form 2187 is the form used for a request for transfer, and I’ve never seen a copy, so I’m alleging that the proper paperwork was never filed) Without SERIOUS (Bush XLI ) intervention, that tranfer would have been turned down flat, even in peace time. The military is very serious about folks staying in their own MOS (that’s jobs to all of you civilians) especially if they are trained fighter pilots. There is no record of Bush in Alabama, period. Nobody has come forward saying they saw him there, either. Also, the post where he was ’stationed’ had no planes; it was a mail facility with about 10 people. (NOW THAT’S EFFEMINATE) He never flew after he left Texas, period. I don’t know if Kerry absolutely deserved his accomodations, I wasn’t there. What is factual is that Kerry volunteered, was actually in Vietnam, and was wounded 3 times as a result. Bush was busy dusting a bar stool in Alabama with his ass. Bush also said he would disclose his 201 File (Militay record) I still haven’t seen it. Obviously, if USA PatriRAT ever served, he would know this is a pile of brown, steaming, dung. If he did serve, that just means he knows he’s lying, but he’ll defend this guy no matter what. I served proudly, B Co 1/15 Infantry (Audie Murphy Company) in Kitzingen, Germany. I lugged an M-60 Machine Gun. I openly challenge the PatriRAT to call me a liar to my face. When he pisses himself like a frightened dog, right before he understands the full benefit of my military training and anger, he will truly understand effeminate.
