Last chance to save New Orleans.

Last chance to save New Orleans.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune begins a three-part series called Last Chance, revealing the growing belief that “the great sweep of marshes protecting New Orleans from the Gulf” will be wiped out far earlier than scientists once believed, “putting the sea at the city’s doorstep.” Says one researcher: “Ten years is how much time we have left — if that.

I’m glad I got to work in the Big Easy back in 1998 for almost a month and began to feel like a local. It was my 3rd trip there, and the longest. Great memories. Was very Bohemian then.

It will never be the same, but I hope to visit there again sometime soon.

According to Al Gore, we won’t be here in 10 years—so it doesn’t really matter.

    20wol,

Thanks for your “inciteful” comments. Please provide proof that Gore implied we won’t be here in ten years. Of course you can’t.

We’re you a speed-bump in a prior life because your posts are about as useful.

    Non-sequitor often?

    Lie.

I live in New Orleans. I read this just this article just this morning. What a shocking way to start a day. My wife and I have been considering what to do next, where to go, what to do with our lives. The threat is real. I’ve seen the satellite photos, the evidence. We need a president that will hit the ground running and see that this is a true national priority that needs to be addressed from day one in office. Gore would be perfect for this.

Vaughn, may whereever you go be at least 80′ above current sea level!

seems the city itself, all it has been and could have been, is already gone… only the developers are happy about what’s happening there…
    it seems…

At least the music lives on. It is a heartbreaker.

“It’s like putting makeup on a corpse,” said Mark Schexnayder, a regional coastal adviser with LSU’s Sea Grant College Program who has spent 20 years involved in coastal restoration.”
N.O. was/is a disaster waiting to happen. Katrina was just a symptom not the cause. Except for the French Quarter much of this city is below sea level, has been for decades, and it has nothing to do with “Global Warming” or George Bush or Fema. Of course that doesn’t fit the template of “George Bush don’t like black people” but too bad.

Thank You, CHIMPya W. Bush, for your EMPTY promises and MEANINGLESS grandstanding over New Orleans–I’m sure the good citizens there will name their newest waste disposal plant after ya–the main shit tank is a statue of ya with ya big lying, flapping maw open to take in all the shit and fecal matter that you love to EAT in real life in order to replenish the ordure that spills out of your LYING MAW 24/7!!!!!

I encourage everyone to download and read this free book about George HW Bush. It explains how George Junior grew up as well as all of his misgivings then and now.

It is available in .htm and .zip format

EVERY dirty little secret is revealed. It is a GREAT recent history text.

  13. Com-n-sense says:

I live in New Orleans – I’ll most likely die here.

If – and that’s a BIG “IF” – man would suddenly become sensible, we have the ability to save the wetlands and build a state-of-the-art levee system.

    But we won’t.

    Why?

Because for all of mankind’s knowledge there is no defence against his collective stupidity.

New Orleans, with all its sweet contradictions of the senses. Perhaps its appropriate that this most improbable and humane of cities should become the first casualty.

  14. big papa says:

Will someone in the Louisiana government…

…please introduce the Holland model where they built the gargantuan levee system…

    …that is an engineering marvel…

    …to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers…

    …Oh that’s right…

…our racist right wing Bushite government and their racist right wing Louisiana supporters…

…have NO INTENTION of repatriating the Black “refugees” of N.O…

  15. Roger_Roger says:

So are the Dems asking that we destroy swamp land? And I thought you wanted to save the environment.
