If - and that's a BIG "IF" - man would suddenly become sensible, we have the ability to save the wetlands and build a state-of-the-art levee system. But we won't. Why? Because for all of mankind's knowledge there is no defence against his collective stupidity. New Orleans, with all its sweet contradictions of the senses. Perhaps its appropriate that this most improbable and humane of cities should become the first casualty. I live in New Orleans – I’ll most likely die here.
