Murtha Laughs Off Cheney: At Least He Didn’t Blame Me For The British Pulling Out

Today on Meet the Press, Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) laughed off Vice President Cheney’s attack that Murtha’s plan for Iraq would “validate the al Qaeda strategy.” “He didn’t blame me for at least getting the British out,” Murtha said. “I thought he might blame me for that.”

Murtha pointed out that Cheney “just does not listen to what I’m saying.” Cheney ignores the military’s readiness crisis and the fact that “the future threats to this country significantly increased in the last year because we have no ground strategic reserve. … He doesn’t talk about the policy and the results of what I’m saying.” Watch it:

Digg It!

Transcript:

RUSSERT: How does it feel to be linked with al Qaeda by a vice president?

MURTHA: It’s unfortunate that the vice president does not have the argument — he just does not listen to what I’m saying. We can’t send troops into combat without equipment. We can’t send troops into combat without training. We can’t extend them past the one-year boots-on-the-ground policy that they have, and we can’t continue to have them over in Iraq more than a year. That’s what he’s not saying, and he’s not saying our strategic reserve and the future threats to this country significantly increased in the last year because we have no ground strategic reserve. That’s what he is not saying. So he attacks my differences but he doesn’t attack the policy. He doesn’t talk about the policy and the results of what I’m saying.

RUSSERT: Did he apologize?

MURTHA: Oh, no. He said that overseas. He didn’t blame me for at least getting the British out. I thought he might blame me for that.

In terms of who is more credible on military actions, let us remember, trolls, that Murtha served his country while Deferment Dick never did.

  2. katy Says:

even trent lott pulled the "slow bleed murtha" meme this morning...
    abc, i think...

  3. emerald Says:

Dick can't even come up with anything original. He is a brick wall-whose mortar is crumbling and decaying.

Murtha got the point across again. He is steps ahead on this issue, and the Democratic party needs to pressure for immediate change in policies.

  4. sconset Says:

How anybody can even think of watching MTP after the testimony in the Libby trial, where evidence was presented that Russert was the go-to guy for the administration to get a story out, is beyond me.

I won't watch ANY NBC programming because it is not legitimate. They are solidly on the side of the administration and the military industrial complex.

I think Russert lied under oath and that he has no integrity at all. I refuse to waste my time on him.

  5. Briseadh na Faire Says:

emerald, The Democratic Party needs to do the one thing it pulled off the table the moment it ascended into a modicum of power; hold impeachment hearings!

  6. klyde Says:

let us remember, trolls, that Murtha served his country while Deferment Dick never did.

That at least partially explains why ole dead eye has been wrong about every decision involved in this war. Including the decision to launch it.

  7. Briseadh na Faire Says:

    This is even bigger news:

    Iran president, Saudis vow cooperation

Consider the implications if the Shi'ites and the Sunnis decide to stop fighting each other.

Consider, too, the implications if they realize that they have been played against each other by Bush using covert ops.

  8. Heterodoxy Says:

The true caveat of this semantic drivel from the Failed Administration is this; Why do they send troops into theatre without gear? Why do they send troops into harms way without Humvee kits, training, or rest?

This should be asked 1,000 times a day by every Dem in Congress. This is the only relevent questions and the only thing the sheeple will understand.

  9. Marie Says:

Deadeye Darth Cheney has so much military experience and know-how, right? The coward takes swipes from thousands of miles away -- true to form for the chickenhawk.

Murtha speaks with credibility - everyone may not always agree with him, but his credibility cannot be denied. He will make the best choices relative to the troops, and that's a far cry from what Cheney does for the troops. Cheney has brass balls to speak as he does when the facts are clear - he has been wrong at every turn, from the very start.

  10. Heterodoxy Says:

Briseadh na Faire, one could only wish but the zealot hatred between extreme Sunni and Shiite go back 1400 years. It is sad that that that egg cannot be unscrambled.
They may talk compliance but their actions show they will fight and we will continue to fail foward with a deplorable incompetent foreign policies.

  11. emerald Says:

#5 Briseadh-you are right! I am not sure even that would stop the "slow bleed" Dubya and Company are inflicting on Americans, however.

  13. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Heterodoxy, Ireland provides a model for peace, even with long-standing zealotry. So, too, does the European Union. For how many centuries did the French, British and Germans fight each other? Europe had to experience total devastation via WWI and WWII for the message of peace to collectively sink in. But must that be the case for every country? I hope not.

  14. DutchHenry Says:

Watching MTP was like being at the "laugh factory":Did anyone catch Sen. Lindsey Graham ,Repuke of South Carolina, saying that the "whole world" was wrong on Sadaam having WMDs.Last time I checked the Russians, French, Germans and & Chinese expressed doubts that Iraq possessed WMDs that can threaten the US.
    Russert never challenged him.
Graham and his cohorts in South Carolina support flying the confederate flag ,on MTP he said we(US) can't allow extremism between Shiites and Sunnis in Iraq. But he sees nothing wrong with extremists in South Carolina. What hypocrisy.Repukes have no shame or conscience.

  15. And You Thought REAGAN Was Stupid. Says:

Looking back, we're probably lucky Dick Cheney was able to defer the draft five times. He would've ended up shooting his fellow soldiers in the face.

  16. VerbalKint Says:

Dick Cheney is pretty much insane these days.

  17. tommy Says:

Didn't Murtha fight in an illegal war?

Doesn't that make him a war criminal?

Hasn't he refused to release his military records?

  18. Barfly Says:

He would’ve ended up shooting his fellow soldiers in the face.

Comment by And You Thought REAGAN Was Stupid

Dick would have become a victim of "friendly fire," shortly after de-planing.

  19. AboveTheClouds Says:

Iraq is a Republican mess and the war-supporting, Bush-supporting, neocon-supporting GOP will have tough questions to answer come 2008. There are no good choices in Iraq--not even GOP-inspired "false choices" (you're either with us or for the terrorists) can fix the mess we created. It will be tough enough being a Republican in 2008, even without Coulter's hate speech.

  20. james k. sayre Says:

The BS never ends with these right-wing idiots. Millions of people marched to protest the start of the Bush war of fascist imperial colonial aggression on the Iraqi people, but the Bush gang didn't care, doesn't care and will never care about anyone not a member or a goosestepping supoorter of the Bush Crime Family...

  21. Eargy Earp Says:

Cheney is only interested in continuing the corporate gravy train to his buddies. He will say anything that helps this cause.

He has no impetus regarding the interests of the United States whatsoever.....just what welfare he can milk out of the Government.

on friday's show, rachel maddow remarked on how darth's breathing is so obvious... she made an issue of it, like it was new to her...
i've noticed how labored his breathing is for months... every inhalation is like a gasp for air...

this guy's heart is giving out... slowly but surely...

and, i remember the way my dad's breathing sounded just like that for weeks before he succumbed to the emphysema... if he had had a breathing treatment that morning, he would not have been admitted to the ER that night, and stayed in the hospital a week before dying...
not that darth has emphysema, but he could sure use a breathing treatment...
    just sayin'...

  24. Sharon Says:

Good Morning all, this will likely be my only post for the day, maybe forever...The TP sit does strange thing's to my old iMac every time they have a clean up day which infect's and affect's my computer, like a few day's ago and the time before...Like being banned, impossible to read or post.

My thought for this morning is this...We alway's say this administration has failed this or that...Failed who is the question.?.Our country, the troop's and the world, Yes, they failed miserably...The bush administration,no failing's at all, all win's for greed and power...We know by their action's and dreadful accomplishment's they have not failed their evil group but done nearly all they set out to accomplish....Note yesterday it came out they have been working on the new H Bomb for a couple of year's...And we all know the people that are in control of the (RED) button...

It must be terribly disturbing to them all every time a smidgen of truth and their greed is uncovered...Note they go into orbit, speaking engagement's. photo op's and talk show's .It slow's down their eternal march to one world domination...

May I submit though, from our side of the fence, which is to save America and the world, the work to uncover and return our constitution and country to stability is a huge hill we must climb....HUGE.

My opinion is, every time this administration screw's up we need to demand it be presented front and center for the public to see.Not just the internet communety ...We also need to demand, as I did (in a pleasent way.LOL) through massive email's, letters and phone call's that Palosi and Reid put Impeachment back on the table...BnF mentioned this in his post.

We know what this entire administration has been doing is wrong but the majority of john q public is still out shopping and untill all of this administration's dirty deed's are brought out in the open we are considered the troublemakers and "against them".. Remember the famious "with us or against us" deviding our country and the world...Many people do not see bushco for what they are because of media and photo op's...Let's work together in shining light on EVERY problem and Evil deed this administration has done and is doing....

Hug some one or something today...Smile at every one and say Hello! It make's them wonder what your up to and some even smile back....Have you done something good for our country or the world today,? Please do....Blessings and Peace

  25. Jackie Rawlings Says:

People have to understand Cheney got 5 deferments because he was scared so when it comes to military combat he doesn't understand it. Now talk stealing oil and he's all over that. Two leaders one a drunk and a weak coward who's Daddy out him out of the military as others went to war GW.
Cheney used the system to sneak out even using his wife having a child to chicken out. What do you expect from these two. It's like asking a 3 year old child about NATO.

If this whole Iraq episode wasn’t so sad maybe I could laugh along with Rep. Murtha.

When will people be held accountable for this disaster?

When that finally happens maybe a small smile will come to my face.

  28. Eric Says:

Did we learn nothing from the passage of the so-called "Patriot Act"? If Murtha had simply titled his bill the "Support the Troops Act," it would have passed both houses of Congress with veto-proof majorities by now. And this time around, the title would have told the truth.

  29. Tobey Tall Says:

The main problem of Bush Not Talking to Iran.....

LONDON (Dow Jones) -- Oil majors are laying the foundations for potentially lucrative energy deals in Iran.

In a signal to Washington that they won't bow to U.S. pressure to isolate the Islamic Republic, many energy giants desperate to boost their flagging energy reserves are eyeing multibillion dollar Iranian projects that could give them access to some of the world's largest oil and gas fields.

Companies including China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (SNP), or Sinopec, Norway's Statoil ASA (STO), Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSA), Italy's Eni SpA (E), Total SA (TOT), Russia's Lukoil (LKOH.RS) and Austria's OMV AG (OMV.VI) listened intently as Iranian oil officials offered, in a polished and professional presentation, 17 oil blocks for development. Foreign oil executives there were quick to defend their right to do business with Iran.

Oh I dont notice any american companies bidding for Iran oil .... Bush should have not cut his bridges off

  30. Briseadh na Faire Says:

    Comment by Tobey Tall — March 4, 2007 @ 1:16 pm

Yet those companies, and countries, will be cut out of the loop once Bush starts dropping bombs on Iran.

The Carriers are in place, and the clock is ticking. Bush will have to act fast if he is to prevent Iran, Saudi Arabia and Syria from reaching an accord.

I see you can't tell the difference between making a statement and challenging a statement. I have no reason to talk about comments Cheney makes about Murtha. I do however challenge some of the statements made by you liberals in support of Murtha. For example:

"Murtha served his country while Deferment Dick never did"

    So?

I asked how and still have not received an answer!
