Coulter: The Conservative Movement Will Stick By Me

Ann Coulter appeared tonight on Fox News (she canceled her CNN appearance). Fox News host Alan Colmes repeatedly pointed out that some conservatives have reacted to her Edwards remark with calls to shun her from the movement.

Coulter shrugged it off disdainfully, and insisted that conservatives will continue to embrace her. “This is the same thing we go through every six months. I say something, the same people become hysterical, and that’s the end of it. I mean I think the lesson young right-wingers ought to draw from this is: it’s really not that scary to attack liberals.” Watch it:

[flv http://video.thinkprogress.org/2007/03/coulcon.320.240.flv]

As Glenn Greenwald writes, “Several right-wing bloggers have created and signed onto a commendable petition which, among other things, calls for the CPAC to cease inviting Coulter to speak. Several of the more decent pro-Bush bloggers have signed on, though, at least as of now, most have not (and Sean Hannity expressly refused to condemn Coulter when asked about the remark).”

But Coulter is probably right. The conservative movement will surely stand by her, as it has done time and time again.

Today, David Keene, president of the American Conservative Union, which co-sponsors CPAC, issued a statement which not only refused to condemn Coulter’s specific statement, but more important, say whether she will be disinvited from next year’s event. “ACU and CPAC leave it to our audience to determine whether comments are appropriate or not,” the statement says. Also tonight on Fox News, Michelle Malkin, who has condemned Coulter’s remarks, acknowledged her positive role in the movement: “She is very popular among conservatives. … I have been a longtime admirer of much of her work. She has done yeoman’s work for conservatism.”

Digg It!

Transcript:

COLMES: Ann, you know, your problem isn’t with liberals like me because I was never you audience. But I’m getting a lot of emails from conservatives, like this one that says: “I’m a conservative. I used to be a fan of hers,” meaning yours. “You’re an embarrassment,” this person says, “to conservative beliefs, to the Republican Party, and to anyone with a shred of self-respect. Do us a favor: shun her.”

What do you say to conservatives who respond to you now like that?

COULTER: That’s how all liberals begin letters denouncing conservatives. And, this is the same thing we go through every six months. I say something, the same people become hysterical, and that’s the end of it. I mean I think the lesson young right-wingers ought to draw from this is: it’s really not that scary to attack liberals.

This is my 17th allegedly career-ending moment. And, by the way, also again, the left has precisely proved the point of the joke — which was to make fun of that actor going into rehab for using a word. This is like the Soviet Union –

COLMES: — it would be funnier if it were a better joke. But Ann, you’re ignoring my question, which is, that you’re attacking this letter writer for being a liberal. I’m getting a lot of these letters from conservatives. You’re losing your conservative base by saying the things you’re saying.

COULTER: (laughs) Well, okay, we’ll see. That’s happened every other time for about a decade now. I get the same thing.

    #1 my sentiment exactly

  3. s Says:

She wears a cross around her neck and encourages young Republicans not to be afraid to "attack" other people. The fact that she is given a National voice should be all you need to know about the mental and spiritual health of the USA. It is not good. We are lost. Until serious people start some real soul searching, reassessing of who we are and want to be, AND speak out about the need for a rebirth of a more dignified and sane National Identity, we will continue to have the spittle of the likes of Coulter, Bush, Limbaugh, Rumsfeld, Hannity, Rove and Dobson etc etc etc
cooling on our stupid, stunned faces.

No she said attack liberals! A big difference!

re: #4 We can start by ignoring comments from these types of posters (( michael )) They really are not worthy of engagement. Let's keep the discussion, a suggestion, on what we can do to marginalize voices like Ann Coulter. Part of her job, and the weenies that do her bidding, is to distract and divide us.

Here's my idea: write your newspapers about your vision of what America could be. Whenever someone like Coulter or the wannbees like Michael chime in, talk about what you want to build for future generations. I am tired of fighting with people that are not up to that task. And the trolls on this site are those people....not up to it. They feed off of decent thinking posters, they have the maturity of 8 year olds, and they have no life.

  8. s Says:

#6 note number six...........8 year old. See?
This poster is not a grown human being yet. May never be. We cannot waste our time with them.

I envision a country where ideals like self control and service to others are once again respected. Trolls have no self control....they spew...hoping we will spew back. We don't have to.

  9. BlueArkansas Says:

I find the woman despicable, of course, but I have to say—she's perfectly entitled in this society to be a bigoted idiot. I think we err in rewarding her little tantrums (which I find completely calculated, by the way) with additional coverage. We should marginalize her, thereby forcing her to become increasingly shrill and offensive in order to garner media attention. She will, in the process, alienate even more Americans to the point where she actually reaches the cultural and political irrelevance she so richly deserves.

To quote an admirable fictional president: "America has serious problems, and we need serious leadership." We have real business to which to attend. This woman(?) is a clown. Turn out the lights, and she'll either perform to an empty room, or stop performing altogether. Either way, we prevail.

the fact that Coulter ran away from the CNN interview proves how much of a wimp she is. She is unable to engage in any intelligent, meaningful debate with someone who disagrees with her. What on earth would ever make anyone think "the conservative movement" would reject coulter for espousing that which they all think. It makes no sense at all.

hate is the foundation of the "the conservative movement" and coulter represents that hate better than anyone.

  28. s Says:

I envision a country in which it's citizens lead the examined life and see the love as the core of the good life, not grabbing the most toys and power to beat each other over the head with. The Republican character is a frightened, repressed, very angry, juvenile, dishonest persona in general. They get a kick out of causing pain. This is not mental health or strength. A Jewish man that survived the holocust told a story of a young Nazi guard shouting to a woman praying out loud for her God to save her. The Nazi spat laughing: "I am your God!" That's how the Republicans feel about power. If they can prevail, they are "rigth." If they can kick you into submission with their filthy tactics and behavior, they feel justified. They lack wisdom, humanity, and intelligence about what life really is about. It's not about power. It's about love. They don't know this. We need not attack them. We simply need to establish an alternative while marginalizing them and to some extent ignoring them. But we cannot ignore them and do nothing. We have to build a new society quietly while these children have their tantrums along side. We can do this. It's just a matter of adjusting one's focus. Like when you block out the lawn mower disturbing the neighborhood peace while you read a good book. The 2008 elections are a chance to finish off this small and very ill group of people.

As a lifelong Republican, I would like to apologize for her filthy mouth. Not all of us Republicans condone this filth. We lost the last election because of her and her ilk. I am afraid that this does not bode well for us for the coming election. We have lots of Senate seats open and if this continues, we will not even have enough for a fillibuster.

I know many of the Young Republican who want to bring integrity back to the GOP and we can't if the Ann Coulters continue their way. I have written to the councils who are responsible and you can bet that she will not be back next year, but they will not say this publicly. Please understand that she does not speakfor our entire party.

I don't care what coulter was thinking ... I rarely CARE what is in the minds of any bigot. She's trash, those defending her statements are trash, and unworthy of response.

the right wing has nothing but this bigotry left. unfortunately, the racist and uneducated 30% of the country is all they have left. coulter is just throwing red meat to the conservative base, and alienating the middle and swing.

bush at 30%. congress lost to them. losing the war in iraq to the iraqis. bigotry is all they have left. they're pretty much at whig party levels at this point.

I'm not in denial and I stand by her 100%! I wouldn't consider that anonymous?

  45. chimpeach Says:

Let's see now. She's referred to Clinton, Gore, and Edwards as "homosexual", "fag", and "faggot". She's urged people to assassinate Justice Stevens, said Timothy McVeigh should have blown up the New York Times building, said John Murtha should have been fragged. And she's accused the 9/11 widows of enjoying their husbands' deaths. I generally avoid using the "C" word, but under the circumstances, would it be out of line to say Ann Coulter is a cunt? I mean, we're not talking about a human being, after all.

  46. Barfly Says:

Ann's a light weight. Glenn Greenwald would totally shred her, if they ever debated. But she will never leave the safety of the circle-jerks at Fox. I'll bet her professors in college don't advertise the fact that she was a student of theirs. Would you?

  47. s Says:

ha ha.... some posters ask for further explanation when all they want to do is draw people into their net. Learn to recognize who they are and don't waste your time. They are not asking serious or honest questions....

It's obvious to any sane person that Coulter and Malkin types are metally ill. Don't let the government groupies sell you the illusion that a large body of people think otherwise. There are more sane Americans than trolls. We just need more people to realize this

  48. JPark Says:

Michael stands by Ann Coulter using bigoted hate speech to describe someone in public.

  50. JPark Says:

    I should say until.

  51. AshenShard Says:

I am becoming more and more convinced that the core of the conservative movement fully support everything Coulter says. She is their go to person when they want to say something, but dare not. If what she says goes over badly with the majority of the country, they can distance themselves from her publicly and deny she speaks for them, only to bring her out again and again so what they actually believe can be broadcast.

She helps them try and construct an electable, non-bigoted, angelic identity by spewing all the bile they believe, and allowing them to publicly refute it. At the same time, it keeps their small, narrow minded, bigoted base loyal since they will focus on what was said rather than the controversy surrounding it.

  52. JPark Says:

#44 Ok...you are michael. Do you have a last name? An address? A phone number?

    Once again, thank you

In a few short moments, you have pointed out to them something
I could never seem to explain with words. And god bless the internets, just
a click or two away from anyone willing to watch.

    Thank you, Ann. Thank you.

  57. Shane Says:

What we need to do is exactly what the Repukes do...when one of them does something we can use against them, no matter how harmless, run with it. Taking the high ground against scoundrels doesn't work in a society where MSM is run by scoundrels. And if there's anybody out there who's dumb enough to believe that the media is still liberal...well its too much work to teach them anything. We know Bush and Cheney have done damage to this country. They weren't stopped when the stole the first or second election. As Americans its our duty to speak out against the tyranny that exists today. If you neocons have your feelings hurt here because we say mean things about your girl Ann or your leaders. Tough Shit!

  58. ricecooker Says:

The Progressive movement should thank conservatives for continually giving Ann Coulter the podium. Looking at Bush's 30% approval rating, that would probably be close to the amount of applause she received at CPAC, maybe less. If the conservatives want to appeal to only 30% of the nation, let them at it by keeping Ann Coulter around. Name calling is vicious but I got over it in grade school! Ann can stay on the playground as far as I am concerned. If conservatives continue to support her rhetoric it will guarantee victory for Progressives in '08!

Just an idea: When one troll is successfully shamed and shut down on this site they simply withdraw and continue under new names. This is their job in my view. It has been proven that trolls are sometims not just ordinary posters. So..... Here's a rule of thumb. If a post seems stupid and vulgar, it probably is and you need not engage. Yes, speak out against what is said but DO NOT address the poster. That's what feeds them. Talk about what they say as if they are not there. DO NOT give them the respect of addressing them directly. Only the topic/comments. This is how to starve trolls......whatever name and however vile.

    #67 Heh, "EXTERMINATE!!!"

  74. rachel rj kinnardi Says:

    Evil or Stupid?

There's a fun game one can play while reading Ann Coulter. Just substitute her name whenever you come across the word liberal. Go ahead, you try:

"A central component of liberal hate speech is to make paranoid accusations based on their own neurotic impulses, such as calling Republicans angry, hate-filled, and mean." (Slander, p. 19).

    Neurotic impulses? Glass houses Ann?

"Liberals don't try to win arguments, they seek to destroy their opponents and silence dissident opinions." (Slander, p. 91)

Again, sounds familiar. But the quote which recently attracted my attention--and inspired this essay--is:

"While having dinner recently with John Lott, author of 'More Guns, Less Crime,' one of life's enduring debates came up: Are liberals evil or just stupid? I was surprised to discover that Lott vigorously disputed those of us staking out the evil position." (March 8, 2001)

So there's the question. Ann Coulter: Evil or Stupid? First, it's rather odd that Coulter has the nerve to put things quite that way. Her recent book--admittedly published after the above quote, but not saying anything new--spends a great deal of time complaining that liberals are always accusing conservatives of being evil (much of the rest of the book, not surprisingly, accuses liberals of being evil). Or to quote from her recent (June 2002) appearance on the Today Show:

"Political debate with liberals is basically impossible in America because liberals are calling names while conservatives are trying to make arguments...It's really all the same lie [that liberals tell], that conservatives are either stupid or scarily weird and therefore you don't have to deal with their ideas."

So it's ok for conservative Ann Coulter to call liberals stupid or evil, but it's darn mean for liberals to call conservatives stupid or evil? If this is Coulter's idea of starting a "political debate" she's better off sticking with invective. I don't know if she is blind to the hypocrisy of her position or if she just doesn't care (or perhaps she uses the old schoolyard claim "they started it first!"). Whatever her internal rationalization, her words make her look pretty, uh, well, you know. Stupid.

The problem with Coulter's Evil vs. Stupid debate is not that it's, well, stupid (although it really is, isn't it?), the problem is that she frames the debate in terms of good and evil in the first place. It's not that there isn't such a thing as evil. We all know evil exists. World Wars, fascism, Stalinism, all these are faces of evil. As are maniacs who fly planes into buildings. But in the world of politics, evil isn't that common, or, rather, that black and white. I don't think my political opponents are evil. Rudy Giuliani supports the death penalty, I don't; that doesn't make him evil, or me. We simply disagree. My father-in-law is a conservative born-again Christian. I'm not. We disagree on many (most) political issues. Yet neither one of us is evil (or stupid).

That's something Coulter really doesn't seem to understand. Your opponents are not usually evil, they just see things differently than you do. And that's normal, even healthy. Coulter's dinner guest, John Lott, recognizes this. Elsewhere in Coulter's essay he tells her that liberals simply believe in 'different facts' than he does, and that makes them neither evil nor stupid. But Coulter doesn't get it.

Coulter sees the world in black and white. She's white (Connecticut white) and everyone she doesn't like is black (New York black). You're either a good conservative, or an evil liberal, there are no in betweens. Or to quote from Coulter on "swing" voters:

"The swing voters---I like to refer to them as the idiot voters because they don't have set philosophical principles. You're either a liberal or you're a conservative if you have an IQ above a toaster. "---Beyond the News, Fox News Channel, 6/4/00

A person, a real flesh and blood human being, has a complex, confused, and sometimes even contradictory way of looking at the world. She might be pro-death penalty, but also pro-government provided health care; anti-gay marriage, but pro-choice on abortion; opposed to both the missile shield and the estate tax. So how does she vote? Conservative or liberal? A complicated world cannot be broken down into simple either/or political philosophies. To do so is simpleminded.

This, in the end, is Coulter's most serious flaw as a pundit. She believes that there are really only two kinds of people in the world: those who agree with her and those who are evil and stupid liberals. Only she, and those who agree with her, has a monopoly on goodness and truth. If not stupid, at the very least this makes her very, very blind. And her blind hatred of liberals makes her a bitter and nasty voice on the political landscape. Dare I say, a force for evil?

wait ... Malkin is a Dalek?

  76. Jeri Says:

It's really not that scary to attack the neocon either, Ann. If you want to play rough, then I think we should.
Anorexic doormats should seek help for their severe problems, Ann. You do a huge disservice to your body (and brain) by denying it the nutrients it needs. You do a huge disservice to the human race with your mouth and all the hate (and ignorance) it spews.
AND your feet looked HUGE on the cover of Time Magazine, a fact which I'm sure mortified you beyond belief.
You like apples, Ann? How do you like them apples?

  77. Jenny G. Says:

Really, there is not a whole lot of difference between her and Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh.. Yet, she still comes out on top of the offensive meter.. Actually, by a mile.

  78. ricecooker Says:

    From the CPAC website:

ACU, the event’s primary sponsor and CPAC strive to provide a platform and forum for a variety of differing views and personalities. ACU and CPAC do not condone or endorse every speaker or their comments at the conference. As such, ACU and CPAC leave it to our audience to determine whether comments are appropriate or not.

“ Ann Coulter is known for comments that can be both provocative and outrageous. That was certainly the case in her 2007 CPAC appearance and previous ones as well. But as a point of clarification, let me make it clear that ACU and CPAC do not condone or endorse the use of hate speech,” said David A. Keene, ACU Chairman.

    wimps.....

  79. Nell Reece Says:

    I see the resemblance, though.

What Coulter PROVES is that these two are not mutually exclusive. She is adroit at being both - always.

  84. Jenny G. Says:

  90. JPark Says:

#86 I fully agree. Coulter will end up as the dingleberry the right just can't get rid of.

  91. ricecooker Says:

Some previous comments about Malkin, but look at this:

"With a single word, [Coulter] sullied the hard work of hundreds of CPAC participants and exhibitors and tarred the collective reputation of thousands of CPAC attendees. ... Not all of us treat the communication of conservative ideals and ideas as 24/7 performance art. ... You can joke without becoming the joke."

  93. Mike M. Says:

Hate to say it but she's really just a bad stand up comic. I don't see why we're so worked up over this. The idea that the MSM continues to take her seriously as a pundit is worth getting mad about, but what she says and what she thinks about what she says are irrelevant -- she tries to tell jokes and she's only marginally good at it.

  94. JPark Says:

#93 Marginally good? Huh? She certainly wouldn't get her own special on Comedy Central...MAYBE the KKK channel...oh, there isn't one?

  97. Crazy Eddie Says:

Anne, honey, you got it all backwards, you should realize that you need to stick to the conservative movement and not them to you.

  98. CounterCoulter.org Says:

It doesn't really come as a surprise that she's "popular" among conservatives. Her shtick is basically telling her readers how stupid and evil liberals are and how conservative Republicans are right. Everyone likes to have their ego stroked and feel superior to the other side. The question we should be asking is whether or not civility has any place in our national discourse.

  99. JT Says:

Has Coulter found those Canadian troops who went to Vietnam yet? Has she ever explained - or been challenged to explain - how her conservative values square with being a single, sexually active woman with no apparent intent to marry and procreate? Has she explained why her alleged church has never heard of her? She is a joke and anyone who listens to anything she says is a fool.

Conservatives can only support her because since 1980 they have abandoned any pretension of adherence to reality or truth. Increasingly, they rely on whining and victimhood to hide their irresponsibility.

Even "Michael" - if that is his real pseudonym - says he stands behind her 100% and isn't anonymous. In an anonymous comment. This is what conservatives have sunk to.

  100. Roger_Roger Says:

I surely don't stand by her. Hell, I never liked her in the first place. Furthermore, I can't believe any serious canidate would have anything to do with her from here on out. After this all blows over, I hope to never see from her again actually. CPAC would be VERY smart in never having her speak again. Hell, they should apoligize.

Coulter tries to go for the it isn't scary to attack Libs thing, but that arguement simply fails. I agree that it isn't scary to attack Libs with idea's and such, but it is simply wrong to use the langauge and references she did. Inappropraite simply isn't the word. That type of langauge has no place in true politics and I would be disappointed if any true repug canidate backs her now.

  101. Crazy Eddie Says:

I mean I think the lesson young right-wingers ought to draw from this is: it’s really not that scary to attack liberals.”

It's childish, besides we are Humans first, Americans second and political Ideologies last. Attacking Americans with salacious playground words is not professional and I, for one, am growing tired of this cry wolf game.

There is no lesson to be learned from name calling, we all learned that in elementary school.

  102. Shane Says:

    99. JT "her conservative values square with being a single, sexually active woman"
You are being way too kind. Coulter is a SPINSTER. Her single status is not her CHOICE. Remember she doesn't believe in CHOICE!
And if she is "sexually active" its only because there are "Michaels" out there. Poor bastards.

  103. Barfly Says:

What made me chuckle is her pandering to the old stereotype of "filthy hippies;" it really shows how ancient and irrelevant her thoughts are. But then, most of her groupies were raised watching re-runs of Barretta, Police Story, and Starsky and Hutch.

I wonder if these young twerps even realize how much of their worldview has been shaped by Aaron Spelling, and Steven J. Cannell.

  104. JPark Says:

Roger_Roger, like it or not she is part of the Republican party. This is the second year in a row she has "spoken" at the CPAC. She got a rousing welcome from your fellows. Romney had a cute little photo shoot with her. Face it, she is the face of the Republican party. She is their little crack whore. If you don't like it that is really too bad. Join the libertarians. Otherwise accept that she is speaking for your party.

  105. Vance Says:

I wonder how mouthy she would be sans the bodygaurds....

  106. JTitor Says:

    Psychological Profile: Ann Coulter

    Name: Ann Coulter
    Born: December 8, 1961
Gender: Hermaphrodite? - natural or surgical is subject to conjecture
    Ethnicity: Racist
Physical condition - Anorexic - bitch is so skinny she only has one side

Based upon close observation introduced by the Klan at Fox News, I can only conclude that the subject suffers from numerous neuroses, exhibits sociopath tendencies, and has brief periods of psychotic behavior. The subject's mental makeup is a mixed bag of disorders that can only have been brought on by the inability to choose a gender identity. She/he/it is in a constant state of confusion because of this identity crisis and has manifested itself into the mental maladies described below.

    Homophobia
This is truly a remarkable phenomenon because of the subject's inability to reconcile with his/her/its sexual makeup. Being as the subject possesses the hormonal needs of both sexes it stands to reason that the subject would no doubt be attracted to both male and female partners alike. If he is really a she, then it stands to reason that she would be inclined to identify with the need for Bob and Neal to play their version of hide the salami. And if she is in fact a he, it would normally come as no surprise that he would in fact enjoy watching the all time classic starring Tiffany Lickalotapuss and Monique Carpetmunche' in "Bottle Blondes go to College: Canyon Yodeling 101." After all they all use the same brand of peroxide. But the patient exhibits a strong hatred of anything that does not resemble the classic definition of marriage between one man and one woman. This hatred can only stem from the fact that biologically speaking the subject has a little too much of each and not enough of either thereby creating an epic battle between hormones that best be equated to a George Lucas film on blotter acid.

    Neo-Conservative Insecurity Disorder
This disorder manifests itself in several ways and stems from a hatred of all things that are nice and good in the world. This condition involves the inability to laud anything that is designed to make anyone feel good. The subject has a strong dislike for puppies, kittens, bunny rabbits, babies, toddlers, elderly people, sunshine, puffy white clouds, circuses, carnivals, bingo games, ice cream, cotton candy, teddy bears, security blankets, the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and Rudolf the red nosed fucking reindeer. Instead the patient exhibits a strong affinity for war, assassination, nuclear holocaust, death camps, the SS, hurricanes, tornados, typhoons, wild fires, flood, plagues of locusts, the potato famine, cancer, AIDS, Typhoid Mary, Lizzie Borden, and public beheadings. This condition was best seen when she/he/it found out I was a liberal and told me that I should be forced to experience a proctologic exam by a physician with poor depth perception.

    Irrational Wardrobe Functionality Disorder
The patient is forced to endure periods of high stress because of the inability to cope with wearing the appropriate attire during times of public exposure. This condition usually manifests itself during times of extreme testosterone/estrogen imbalance and is directly attributed to the level of stockpiles of Nair, Barbasol, and Brute for Men in her/his/its possession. I believe this ailment is also a result of the pain experienced during the bi-weekly back waxing treatments that the patient is forced to endure. It is best to steer clear of the patient during these times and it is strongly recommended that everyone look to the warning signs of an impending bout of anxiety. These signs are the need to wear black turtle neck sweaters to offset the unnatural throat curvature and five o'clock shadow. This attire is usually coupled with a pair of Levi's with the Skoal Can imprint on the left rear pocket. I have also noticed that this trend usually coincides with the subject's need to visit the Queens Trans-Gender Clinic of greater New York.

    Anorexia Nervosa/Bulimia
Patient exhibits the tendency for an eating disorder although inconclusive whether it is Anorexia or Bulimia at this time. It is obvious that this subject is dire need of a sandwich because of the fact that the exhumed remains of the Donner Party enjoy more curves than this Adam's apple on a stick.

    Psychotic episodes
The definition of psychosis is: A severe mental disorder, with or without organic damage, characterized by derangement of personality and loss of contact with reality and causing deterioration of normal social functioning. You've seen her/he/it on television, need I say more?

    Sociopath
This patient has a long history as a sociopath. From the desire to kill all Muslims to putting rat poison into Supreme Court Justice Paul Stevens' Creme Brule this trans-testicular neo-conservative Eva Braun wannabe has pushed the envelope of modern day hate speech to new heights.

    Conclusion
It is painfully clear that the subject is nothing more than a certifiable whack job in dire need of psychological reprogramming. The patient must be forced to come to grips with his/her/its gender makeup and if all else fails the best cure in my opinion is to finally come out of the closet and say that she is truly in love with Hillary Clinton.

    guards.....sorry

  108. Roger_Roger Says:

#104 I am not part of the Repug party actually. Now I do realize the repug party is large and has many different voices just like the Dems. The Dems have a fringe far left S O C I A L I S T movement that I would guess your more conservative members don't agree with (those on this site might). Like I said, every party has there black sheep, its just that most of the time they don't put them on the stage. It is time to bury Coulter. She is a loser.

  109. Shawn Says:

ask her about her cocaine habits!!!!!

  110. JPark Says:

#107 No Roger, she is the Republican party. They want to have it both ways. They want to say the compassionate thing while letting their spokeskank tell it like it really is. She is their conscience. She is their id. She needs to be held up for all to see, not buried.

  111. JPark Says:

  114. JPark Says:

#111 So, you aren't a Republican but you defend them to the death. Are you trying to have it both ways? By the way, yes, the right is full of handouts...to corporations, to the rich, to their doners. Honorable.

No I'm an American first and believe that if we sit back and negotiate, negotiate, negotiate, negotiate, negotiate, for 12 years like we did in Iraq, thanks to Clinton, Iran will develop a weapon you and I do not want to see delivered to Israel because when that happens, and it will, life will never be the same again! 139. Roger_Roger Says:

    JPark,

I don't agree with corporate handouts in any shape or form. The death tax is not a handout however. Personally, I just don't get how the government has the right to tax your death. But straight corporate handouts are wrong. ALL HANDOUTS ARE WRONG. When the government takes money from one person and gives it to another, that is wrong. When they take money from one person and give it to a corporation, that is wrong.

The government should focus on military, education, and other issues that provide security. They should get out of the entitlement programs business. You yourself just said you don't like handouts and these programs are all classic examples of the government stealing from one group of people and handing it out to another.

We are a soceity should certainly donate to the needy (And conservatives give more then Libs actually) but forcably taking money from me and giving to another person is simply wrong.

As far as saying I defend the repug party "All the time":

I would have to disagree there. I defend MY beliefs and yes, some are the same as the repug party. I also defend many beliefs the repugs oppose such as Gay Marriage, Global Warming, and the Death Penalty. I could go over to Redstate right now and argue that we need to get tougher on GLobal Warming and they would scream I am a Lib. They would kill me if I said the Death Penalty is wrong and would label me an elitist lib. You get the point. So, I don't specifically defend the repugs. I even told you folks my vote is for Gore or Obama. I also am not a supporter of Bush nor the 109th Congress. How again do I support them?

A PERFECT example of someone who is afraid to debate me on Ann Coulter. Symptoms? Change the subject! That's what liberals do. Wayne, let's get back on track and talk about Coulter? I'm going to bed now but will look for your stupidity in the morning.

    Comment by Roger_Roger

If Iran attacks Isreal, which I doubt they would, having a couple of countries between them, I would support defending them.
But, not if Isreal is the aggressor and attacks Iran first.
That includes pre-emptive strikes without UNSC approval.

  156. David Says:

I read through the dumb-ass posting by Michael and other conservatives and wonder.... what the hell is a conservative? I guess it means a lot of cheap and without any substance or reality.

Take Coulter for example, she has repeatedly been proven to be a liar. Her works does not stand up to ANY criticism. You could say the same thing for ANY conservative. Take any Bush or Cheney speech. It is all BS. The list is too long and too well documented for any debate on the issue.

Hey Republicans.... your legacy is secure.... you have sold out the country and yourselves. You can try to blame the other side all you want. But America (the 70%!! that sees the truth) knows you are full or it. Try all you want. You have LOST.

  157. guest speaker Says:

    David,

Can you please stop proving you are the product of the public school system? You are one dumb m-ffer. And you now know that because I told it to you. I allowed you to know it. You aren't in charge and in command on this or any other issue.

    I am.

  158. frenchfries Says:

Sadly, she's right. It won't do any harm to her nauseating career.

  159. Craig Says:

In the long run A.C. is good for progressives. It takes people a while to catch on sometimes, but it's actually important to liberals that representatives of the G.O.P. feel free to openly and avidly state the position of their party, given that bigotry, jealousy and hatred is what the G.O.P. represents.
    That's what A.C. does well.

When an ass exposes itself as an ass this is a good thing. We need more of it.

  160. cripple creek gang Says:

  161. Tobey Tall Says:

    yes mud does stick

  162. Tobey Tall Says:

Turkey opened my eyes further to anti-American hatred. As more and more people in the occupied countries of Afghanistan and Iraq are being killed by American troops or by violence that didn't exist before America existed in their countries, the intensity of the hostility is escalating along with the escalating violence. At a "peace" conference that I attended in Istanbul I was appalled when attendee after attendee rose up from the audience to commend my fellow panelist, an Iraqi scientist, on the insurgency in Iraq which was giving the world "hope" by staving off the self entitled "mightiest military in history." I was as appalled because a violent insurgency was applauded as I am appalled that a violent regime in DC is still in power to continue devastating the world which encourages people to place their hope in the Iraqi resistance.

  163. Marge Says:

It is silly to try to argue with people like Ann Coulter. Look at the trash it spews. Look at the type of people that embrace it. What do you think would happen if the democrats/liberals were given air time like coulter and spewed trash about a republican. They would probably want to take the TV station off the air.

And if a person does not understand the level of infancy coulter possess they are as bad as coulter is. What person who has completed grade school would defend coulter. No one with sense.

  164. Sam Says:

What, did this guy michael stay up all night and post? Does it make him feel less powerless when he harasses people on liberal blogs because he can't win an argument (and can't win elections?) What does that accomplish michael? Do you think your fear and hate will win over Progress and Time?

"You will NEVER prevail with her!" Michael

"I will stand in this doorway and no negros will pass by me" (or something to that effect)George Wallace
    1963

The sad thing is about these conservatives, is that....well, there are actually 3 sad things:

One, that they are on the losing side of time. Just like every other woman-hating, biggoted, sexist, elitist thug. Thugs fought against women's rights, black's rights, gay rights, handicapped rights, etc, and they have lost and continue to lose. History shows that.

The Second sad thing is that they are actually dragging down their own party. As much as we hate coulter, she, lest you forget, was on their team before they lost the midterms, and contributed to that loss. Conservatives like michael don't know this, or, really don't even care, because to him it's ultimately not about the party, it's about who he hates.

And that brings us to the Third sad thing, which is an extention of the second. Because as they carelessly bring down their party, they also bring down our country. They drag it down, drag the constituion through the mud, destroy the fabric of our society. And again, they don't care. This extends to our world. Ask any of them, they'll tell you they need to get their kicks in now because they think the world is a shitbox and going to hell, with things being polluted and overpopulation and they don't see any hope for us. They see no future so they behave as if they will not have one. This is key.

So the average bigot in this country who votes for the loudmouths who moan and complain about everything, actually think that these pundits are in some way preserving what america is or was. In reality, the pundits seek to preserve nothing. They will destroy it all and do it with a shrug and a laugh.

That's why michael claims coulter is unbeatable. Even though Al Franken went toe to toe with her many times, slamming her to the pavement, pointing out every lie in her book, one by one. Even though she gets frustrated and flustered when cornered. She just flees to come back another day. Because fear, hate and stupidity doesn't really die, it will always come back. We'll alway deal with it, one freak at a time. The thing is to be vigilent though so it doesn't crap in the water supply.

Yes, Time is a funny thing:

"And whether or not you've agreed with me at everything that I used to do, and agreed to -- I know that you do not -- I, too, see the mistakes that all of us made in years past."
    George Wallace
    20 years later

And by the way, Wallace pushed against progress by talking about "defending freedom" and "freedom-loving people" and the "tyranny" of the people opposing him. So Bush's words are nothing new. They are all recycled.

  165. JP Says:

    F*** Ann Coulter.

With your di*k, not mine. I wouldn't touch that Adams-Apple witch.

  166. Phoenix Woman Says:

As Atrios says, the sad thing here isn't that racist bigots like "Michael" embrace her. It's that the mainstream media does, too.

  167. Dogjudge Says:

    Interesting for me.

I spent the last couple of days at Townhall.com discussing this with the conservatives there.

Most simply sluffed off Ann's remark as a joke gone bad.

They then all jumped over Bill Maher and his comment about wishing that Dick Cheney had died in the recent attack in Afghanistan. Oh, no one is condemning Maher and his comment is MUCH worse.

When you then would point out to them that Maher has made his stupid comment once, but Ann has called for the murder of various politicians and liberals NUMEROUS times they have absolutely nothing to say. Not ONE condemnation.

  168. not the senator Says:

As was shown by the CPAC applause and the support on the Right, Ann Coulter is the face of the Republican party. Let them own her. I suggest that from now on we refer to all Republicans as 'Coulterites'. For example, Sen. Mitch McConnell, KY, Ann Coulter Party (ACP).

Just think of the mileage they got out of Micheal Moore just sitting in the stands at the '04 DNC, Acrid Annie will be worth millions of votes more to us.

  169. Tobey Tall Says:

The trouble with thinking 9/11 was an inside job staged by George W. Bush & Co. is that it defies belief any U.S. president might be capable of such an iniquitous crime against his own people.

Yet, subsequent Bush actions, such as lying the nation into war against Iraq, makes one wonder if the man didn't create the 9/11 massacres to justify his attacks on Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran.

After all, his record reveals him to be a serial liar, warmonger, tyrant, torturer, and usurper of his peoples' civil liberties. Just off the top, here are some illegal GWB actions that betray what he is really about.

    # Bush lied the U.S. into what former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan called an “illegal” war on Iraq . This conflict has killed 650,000 civilians, wounded over a million more, drove nearly 2-million from their country, and turned life into a living hell for the rest. The death toll there is already equal to about 240 WTC massacres, yet Bush persists in waging the war.

    # Bush okayed $1.5-trillion for new weapons' research including grisly weapons that would thrill mad scientists, such as sound waves that crush a victim's internal organs. Another gem is "rods from god" to hurl tungsten poles down from Earth orbit down upon its victims at 7,200 miles an hour, striking with the atomic fury. He is illegally militarizing space. These are not the dreams of a humanist.

    # Bush has allowed illegal radioactive ammunition fired in Afghanistan and Iraq that poison civilian populations and U.S. troops, as well as cluster bombs. Does this evince concern for human life?

    # Bush has made himself master of the greatest spy apparatus the world has ever known at a cost to taxpayers of $50-billion annually. He authorized NSA to spy illegally on Americans, allegedly to catch terrorists. If this was the true reason, why did he also eavesdrop on UN officials?

    # Bush authorized CIA agents to go to foreign countries to kidnap "suspects" and dump them in distant prisons to be tortured with no warrants signed to seize them, no charges brought against them, and no lawyers to defend them. In his secret prisons there may be many thousands held illegally, and tortured, while all the time he lies to the world "we don't torture." Is this a man with empathy for others?

    # Bush is also funding hundreds of biotechnology labs to create deadly strains of exotic killer diseases at a cost to taxpayers of $40-billion. Many operate in secret, illegally violating transparency rules. On Bush's watch, anthrax germs from a military laboratory in Fort Detrick , Md. , were mysteriously unleashed upon two of his political opponents in the U.S. Senate that killed five people and sickened 17 others and temporarily shut down the Congress.

  171. John Says:

Of course the Republicans will stand by her. This is a party that floated the idea of proposing an Amendment to the Constitution for the specific purpose of discriminating against homosexuals. This is the same party that was successful in amending several state Consitutions to discriminate against homosexuals. Why would they object to the word "faggot"? Especially if used against a Democratic Presidential Candidate.

  172. D'Lo Says:

What we need is a liberal to stand up at a convention and say, "Laura Bush is a f*cking c*nt". Then when they start screaming (which they will) go, "Hey, it was a joke." Hell, all we have to do is say, "Mary Cheney is a lesbian"and they start screaming.

Then again, who wants to stoop to their level?

Paula Zahn's show was interesting last night. They were really trashing her.

  173. Roger_Roger Says:

#153 I agree. If Iran stops all enrichment and Israel attacks them anyways, we certainly should not help or support them. On the other hand, if talks fail and Iran continues to enrich, we not only should support Israel, we should attack as well. Clinton and Obama even realize that is the correct answer.

  174. mroom Says:

Yeah, the not-so-bright right wingers salivate over her, but the moderates will determine the next election, and they think she's an abomination. Go Ann!

  184. Leslie Says:

This woman is a clown, a side-show, a political comedian, and should be taken as such - the Andrew Dice Clay of politics. She has no political clout, just rears her ugly head every once in a while for the shock value or to sell a book. I personally wish blogs would ignore her. It's her right to speak her mind (as closed as it is), and as long as she has an audience, she'll continue. I won't worry about her until she runs for office.

  187. Carl Gordon Says:

As far as Libby, ill-treatment for a ill-used army, and the continuing saga of a dumb-as-a-sack-of-hammers president goes, if there's ever been a time that'll affirm that the soul of humanity is locked in the trunk of a nearby car, this is probably it, though we're all too distracted by Anna’s tragic fate at the hands of every egg-sucking dog west of the Pecos and learned dissertations on the appropriateness of prejudiced language used in public discourse, to hear its muffled cries. We collectively would desire a panacea to remedy the current social afflictions, “Reality” shows, repetitive mean-spirited whoopee cushion pratfalls hoisted on the defenseless and dimwitted seeking their 5 seconds of fame and the “B” slot on the “Today Show”, but let’s face it – it’s entertainment because it features the sorts of vacuous, fiercely competitive but vaguely stupid back-biting yuppies we went to college with, the usual ragtag assortment of ineffectual pootbutts that you can find on every show, from "I Want to Be a Hilton Pinhead" to "I Wanna Be a Pressed Soap Cake" to "I Want to Be a Honey-Baked Ham." Yawn.
The wacky thing is, by now we've all personally met through various media almost every variety of ineffectual crank on the planet now, and we just don't care anymore. Sure, it might be interesting to watch a challenge where goobers staple boloney to their faces, then swim through the shark-infested waters of the Florida panhandle, but they already pitched that last week.
But I’m coming off as a pessimistic ponce, so I should behave, salute the rag and be a little more “Up with People!”. The truth is nothing will lull you into a peaceful sleep quite like the repetitive pointless arguing of several illiterate “fair and balanced” mouth breathers, as opposed to the sweat-glistened man titties found on nearly every “fashionable” beach and the soaring boring heights of the standard over-hyped Luau. From the scenic sewers of Sebastapol, where bobos sip champagne and celebrate freedom from criminal charges, to the floor of the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Hawaii, where the ever wily crab sneaks along looking for some free lunch hoisted port-side with much gusto by some idiot tourist wonk who couldn’t resist that third serving of chunky deep-fat fried pupus, freedom is on the march and it’s feet smell! Bad. In a land where we cheer on TV tyrants like Martha Stewart and Donald Trump for being bossy and small-minded and unbearable, while our bossy and small-minded and unbearable leaders send fine men across the seas to conquer and destroy and strong-arm to their hearts' content, freedom, like the an upscale burrito at Taco Belch, reigns supreme! We stand for what we've always stood for: freedom for us, and demeaning, menial jobs, bomb cratered farmlands, and chicken pox for everyone else! Hip, hip, hooray!

  190. Leslie Says:

This woman is a sad commentary. With all the advantages she has in her favor, with an exemplary education, she chooses to squander her intellectual capital on childish, school yard antics. Is it true that the measure of success is merely the amount of money one can make selling books? If so, then indeed she is a successful woman.

She has referred to liberals as Godless. Well, I wonder what God she worships who would condone her cruelty and idiocy.

I for one certainly do not inflict her behavior on other members of her party, only the extremers who support her. Her statements are hers and hers alone, not to be confused with those who actually articulate an argument.

What was her message in referring to John Edwards as a "faggot." Homosexual? Weak? Ineffective? Then dammit, SAY SO!! Make an intelligent argument. But that's not what she does, is it? She chooses to smack her listeners in the face and give them the bird. How sad.

  191. Jason Baddo Says:

its entertainment, baby...thats waht america is all about......love Ann's non-tits though!!

  192. Charlie Says:

I am surprised that no one has noted that as usual, Ann Coulter is WRONG!

John Edwards is not gay. He is married with children. A family man. He has never even been divorced like most of your heroes of the right: Ronald Reagon, Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, etd., etc.

He even stood by his wife when she had cancer, instead of dictating terms of a divorce while she was in the recovery room, as St. Newt did.

John Edwards represents the very best of all of your family values!

I guess it is simply not news that Ann Coulter is wrong, as usual. That is just a given.

Having said that, there is one are where I think she would be useful. This liberal would certainly love to have sex with her.

I know just how I would plug her "pie hole" so she can't spout off her nonsense...

  193. * Hater Says:

"Are you not capable of articulating what she did wrong?"

Yes, we are. We are also capable of ignoring a moron freeper troll.

  194. Jim Says:
