Media Rewards Coulter’s ‘Faggot’ Comment With Greater Publicity
The media networks are racing to get Ann Coulter on the air, proving that no beyond-the-pale right-wing comment is so outrageous that it disqualifies you from receiving TV publicity.
This afternoon, CNN gleefully announced:
Ann Coulter joins Paula Zahn with her side of the story, that’s tonight at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. Don’t miss it.
Also, last night, Sean Hannity heralded:
Don’t forget. Tomorrow night, Hannity & Colmes. Ann Coulter will be our guest.
This isn’t the first time the media has rewarded Coulter for her hate speech. After she attacked the 9/11 victims, NBC milked the controversy, repeatedly providing a forum for her to talk about it. Similarly, she was given repeated opportunities to discuss her comments suggesting Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) should be murdered.

First off, Murtha has nothing in common with Benedict. Second, Benedict did not have a country to sell out at the time. He had a bunch of treacherous colonists to loyally give over to the legitimate government, which was Britain at the time. Regardless of what Coulter’s lame, insincere rationalization for it was, she used the word “faggot” because she considered it to be a slur and she knew her audience would, too. In fact, she knew everyone would consider it a slur. It’s not that everyone thinks it’s bad to be a homosexual, but because they recognize an attempt to denigrate someone when they hear it. She didn’t say it because she thought that Edwards was homosexual. She knows he’s not. Republicans seem to be concerned with facade rather than substance. Take GOP, Grand Old Party, title for example. They aren’t old, Democratic party is definitely be around much longer. And I like how they try and attach themselves to the Democratic-Republican party of Jefferson. I’ve heard that talking point a lot lately, they leave out the Democratic part of the name. BTW, the Democrat Party grew out of the Democratic-Republican party. Republicans grew out of the Free Soilers and the anti-immigrant Know Nothing parties.

None of them owned huge amounts of land. None of them came from “old money.” By today’s standards, they would probably be catagorized as upper middle class. Moreover, the system they advocated was not an aristocratic system. Jefferson, Madison and Franklin had a deep distrust of corporations because they felt this would set up a different type of aristocracy. But, it’s true that they all had a lot to lose which makes their Declaration of Independence even more impressive to me. If they would have failed, they all would have been hanged and their farms appropriated. I think they deserve respect.

i remember listening to obama some months ago, he was in the south somewhere… i know i detected a bit of a southern twang there…
now, hillary, even though she’s a chicago girl, lived in arkansas for many years… easy to understand that she would pick up an accent… i don’t recall hearing it so much, and i didn’t listen to this latest speech, but i know how easy it is to slip into a southern accent…
i lived for several years in missouri (lots of arkansasans and tennesseeans there) and also nashville… i had a decent start on the southern drawl, being from southern illinois, but before i could get out of the south, i was tagged… it’s so easy to pick up if you spend any time at all there…
both my kids went to college just 70 miles north of home, and they would remark on my southern accent… and i could hear theirs change to the chicago accent that a great majority of the students have…
not making an excuse for hillary… if it was pandering… just saying that it’s totally understandable…
now, barack obama picking up a southern drawl? can’t explain…
maybe it was more of a black accent, as he was speaking to a black audience…

I’m all about people learning more about the founders of this country because by today’s standards, they were not what a lot of people think they were. Most of them were balls-out populists. They were lefties. There were deists, not christians. Most of them had a serious problem with organized religion and with corporations. If they were around today, and going to church, they would probably be Unitarians.

I think people pick up accents to some degree, and they’re not aware of it. I was talking to a Cajun guy a couple years ago, and not only did I understand him right away (a miracle), I started picking up the speech pattern again. I lived in the heart of Cajun country in Louisiana for over 5 years. I don’t think it’s disrespectful, I think it just happens. People are trying to make trouble where there is none.
