From serving in Iraq to living on the streets.

The Washington Post reports that from “2004 to 2006, the Department of Veterans Affairs provided shelter to 300 veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan tours, out of the tens of thousands who have served.” But that figure “is not even close to accurate,” said Paul Rieckhoff, executive director of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, “because it doesn’t include the ‘others sleeping in buses, their cars or on the streets.’”

Another victory for the ReichWingers to crow about. They’re not contributing to an overheated housing market.

  2. Kay says:

    This adminstration has no shame.

  3. Sharon says:

One little bundle of cash from the palett’s that disappeared in Iraq or the 7 billion that went to Israel could of taken care of this problem….Guess we know where the loyalty and accountbility of this administration lies….Supporting the terrorests to keep the war’s alive is a must for a war making president…..Blessings

  4. Marie says:

You’re so right, Sharon. One of those shoeboxes of hundred dollar bills that have been lost (totalling $9 billion) could have resolved problems here at home. We know the priorities of Bush&Co, and respect and care for veterans is not among them.

  5. Zooey says:

    Shameful.

Any homeless vets need to be moved into the White House and members’ of Congress homes until this issue is resolved.

  6. Sharon says:

BTW every one I have been aware of this from the start almost 4 year’s ago…Young disabled vet’s living in their old wreck car’s were in our food bank line’s and I spoke with many….Their lives are shattered and with the nam vet’s many are already living in the shadow’s ignored by the public view and slipping away from mental and physical problem’s that war’s cause…I grieve..The shame brought on our country by this administration can not be turned around untill 1.. these mad men are out of office and 2 the war’s ended…No matter what order. ….Blessings

Common people disabled for life emotionally and physically, fighting the rich men´s wars.
Rich men must be laughing and repeating the propaganda for the common people: Hey, Support the troops. Dont question anything.

  8. dlet says:

Can’t they build some shelter out of the million extra “Support The Troops” magnets that are sitting in a warehouse. Yellow I heard has a calming effect. Get some neo-cons to work out the details. It should be ready by 2010.

  9. yangho says:

Surprise?? The fact is super-patriot rightwingnuts only support troops when they’re able to fight.

  10. Sharon says:

Yesterday while I was out with a friend we stoped at the girl scout cookie sales in Fred Meyers and baught some cookies….My friend and I noticed they had a box for the troop’s there and we donated the cookies for that purpose….Upon leaving, I thought to say my comment out loud, I hope the war’s are over and troop’s home before these cookies are sent off….I had asked the mother there helping her young one when the cookies would be sent off and she replied this coming week….She ( the mother ) immediately asked me to explain and my friend and I had a great exchange with an unknowing voter that by her admission will never vote for the Republican party again….We didn’t attack only gave her our view’s and where to look for good information and how to truly support all life including our troop’s….Blessings…..Peace

When we are ladling out blame, let’s not forget the 75% of the American public that supported this war in the first place and the 30-40% still doing so.

  12. Roger_Roger says:

This report seems VERY accurate. It said they provided shelter for 300 troops. Are you calling them liers? Obviously there are other troops that went homeless but didn’t use this shelter which then wouldn’t be in this report. Talk about making news out of nothing.

  13. Raymond Funamoto says:

This is a DISGRACE, an UTTER FAILURE of Bushland Uber Allies and CHIMPya’s TOTAL SOCIOPATHIC DISREGARD and CONTEMPT for the American Veterans WHO HAVE SERVED OUR COUNTRY LOYALLY AND UNSTINTINGLY GAVE OF THEMSELVES AND THEIR HEALTH!!!!! CHIMPya and Bushland Uber Allies SHOULD BE HORSE-WHIPPED TO WITHIN AN INCH OF THEIR MISERABLE LIVES!!!!! NO, WAIT–I TAKE THAT BACK–HORSE-WHIPPED WITH A CAT-O-NINE-TAILS TIPPED WITH RAZOR WIRE–TO THEIR DEATHS!!!!!

Why don’t you go to the freeway underpass and tell that to any vets you find there?

    This adminstration has no shame.

    Comment by Kay #2

    …because their supporters/worshippers/cult members have…

    …no brains…

    …OR hearts…

    …with which to feel shame…

…and somewhere in the world tonight, George W. Bush is smirking.
