The Oakland Press (California Michigan) has joined the Lancaster New Era (Pennsylvania) in announcing plans to no longer run Ann Coulter’s column after her remarks about John Edwards.
UPDATE: Human Rights Campaign has an action alert: “Contact Universal Press Syndicate, the largest independent newspaper syndicate in the world, and let them know that carrying Ann Coulter as a syndicated columnist is not acceptable.”
Maybe the “Assault on Reason” is getting a bit old. :)
This “movement” of conservative insanity is coming to an end. We all know what kind of “movement” it has been. Thank God it is ending.

Glad to see Ann get what she deserves… I think it was made possible by the outrage and publicity of that outrage…
Just my two cents

March 6th, 2007 at 10:15 pmTo clarify my position. The MSM ought to be reporting, TP doesn’t have to keep giving that creepy woman even more attention.

I’d like to see someone actually drop her, preferably from very tall building.
March 6th, 2007 at 10:23 pmDo you think that the MSM doesn’t pick stuff like this up until there’s enough internet buzz about it?
I agree, talking about her isn’t pleasant, but I’ve noticed that unless it gets considerable attention in the blogosphere, the MSM doesn’t notice… Almost as if the blogs are their test boards for ‘ratings’…
At least she’s been demoted to a grey box :)

The Internet in general, and the blogosphere in particular, is what drives much of the MSM coverage these days. A friend of mine in the industry freely admits that most media outlets pay very close attention to what people are reading online and to what folks are searching for.
March 6th, 2007 at 10:30 pmZoo,
I think it’s why the insane trolls come here trying to disrupt us… Because our collective voices in intellectual political blogs like TP, DailyKOS and others really have replaced the 18-25 year old horny male demograpic when it comes to television news… And they know that if we talk about something enough, it’s as good as public information. Walter Reed went this direction too.
Just a pattern that seems to exist. And, for a change, it’s a positive one…
Well, night guys… Sun comes up earlier here on the eats coast :)

Good to know… There seemed to be a correlation. Whatever we talk about the most gets the most air time – with a one to three day delay… sometimes less.
That’s a big responsibility, but frankly, I’ve been here for almost a year and a half, and for once, I think that responsibility has been given to the right people – those who have read the Constition, reject fear as a lifestyle and have triple digit IQs.
If anyone has “changed the world”, it has been liberal blogs and their commenters.
Okay, I’m really going now… ‘Night!

March 6th, 2007 at 10:39 pmUncle Ho,
I have been in touch with Jean Chabut, who is the Public Health Administration Chief Administrative Officer for the Michigan Department of Public Health.
Basically, she said the survey apparently had a very low response rate so the information was not reliable enough to be used. There is a report on the Agent Orange survey, but they need your address in order to send it to you.
Also, there were other studies done at the time that you might be interested in.
If you want the emails, let me know, and I’ll forward them to you.

March 6th, 2007 at 10:51 pmAmanda,
It appears to me that this particular Oakland Press is in Michigan, not California. The link takes us to a michiganliberal.com web site, and Oakland is the name of a county in Michigan. I’ve lived in Oakland, California lo these past 21 years and I’ve never heard nor seen any paper by that name here.

#28 – Uncle Ho,
ME: A friend of mine, who is a Viet Nam veteran, filled out an Agent Orange Survey he received in the mail from the Michigan Department of Public Health. This was a few years ago. He never heard back about the survey, and now would like to know what came of it. I wonder if you would be able to provide any information about the results of this survey, or point us to the proper department?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you are able to provide.
MS CHABUT: (Zooey) – that was many years ago – back in the 1980s and a report was developed that I recall as “unremarkable” in its findings; however, I will make inquiries to see if anyone still has a copy and let you know if I find anything.
MS CHABUT: We found the report, but no survey results. [ see attached] If you want the report, send Dr. Miller your address and we’ll mail it.
ATTACHMENT: Harry said he had a box of Agent Orange information in his office, including the Commission’s final report. He is having a copy of the report sent to me.
Per Harry, the survey the requestor is asking about had a very low
response rate therefore the information was not reliable enough to be used. However, the commission report speaks to several other studies that were done at the time which may be of interest to this requestor.
If she would like to give an address we could have a copy of the final report sent to her.
ME: I never thought I’d hear back so quickly! I’ll let my
friend know what you’ve told me, and let you know how he wants to proceed.
Thank you!
MS CHABUT: :-} Glad we could be of some help.
March 6th, 2007 at 11:17 pmIt’s about time that this vitriolic woman started reaping some of what she’s sown. Coulter is, of course, free to speak her mind — but those companies who carry her column and advertise on her website are equally free to stop doing business with her if and when they become concerned that the way in which she chooses to express herself might tarnish them by association and potentially be detrimental to their interests. After all, conservatives thought it perfectly reasonable that Linda Ronstadt lost a performance contract as a result of her decision to express her opposition to the War In Iraq and her admiration for Michael Moore — so any objections they might make to the pullout by Coulter’s business associates would be hypocritical (I notice that the usual suspects have by and large chosen not to comment on this topic as of yet…wonder where Firehead, Patrick1, Seixon, et al. have got to?)
Conservatives like Coulter claim to believe in taking personal responsibility and in accepting the consequences for one’s choices — well, now we have the perfect opportunity to see whether the woman can practice what she preaches or whether her real principle is “do as I say, not as I do.” After all, nobody forces Coulter to make the sort of comments that she chooses to make — she does so of her own free will. Based on the way that she’s tried to avoid facing the consequences of her behavior already — namely, by trying to excuse her comments with the claim that it was a “joke” and that what she said wasn’t really offensive to anyone — my guess is that she’ll object to the pullout and claim that it’s unfair.
March 6th, 2007 at 11:42 pmI disagree with those who say TP should give her less attention. Do you really think papers would be dropping her if it weren’t for pressure from the blogs? I am a bit ambivelent about the papers dropping her though. The more she talks, the worse the right looks.

This is pretty much what passes for reasoned discourse on the Right these days.
March 7th, 2007 at 1:20 amWell ballbastard, there you go again. I watched the Real Time episode you are referring to. Conservative former congressman Joe Scarborough was a guest panelist and admitted on his own MSNBC show that that is not what Bill Maher was inferring. They were discussing Arianna Huffington removing posts from her blog that were derogatory toward VP Cheney while he was allegedly nearly bombed. The tenets of freedom of speech, if you will. The only thing Bill did say was that more people might be alive if Cheney had been killed referring to Cheney’s lies and distortions about Iraq that has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. You know, actual human beings, including over 3100 American service men and women.
Dick Cheney and the rest of the PNAC megalomaniacs should be held accountable for their treacherous misdeeds against the people of this nation and be tried for treason for their blatant disregard and abuse of the Constitution of the United States.
So, in short, ballbastard, go swallow a turd and choke it down with a Cheney flavored glass of kool-aid.
March 7th, 2007 at 1:23 amAnyone who claims that Coulter’s remarks were a joke doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Conservatives have no sense of humor, and as such, are genetically incapable of saying or doing anything even remotely funny.
March 7th, 2007 at 1:24 amBallbuster put down your grouping airbrush. I am not a Democrat nor am I for the death penalty. Anne has spoken of poisoning judges. If you were to send an email to the Whitehouse advocating such you would be charged and thrown into the hoosegow.
Anne, as a lawyer, should especially know better than to make such statements. The media is a powerful form of inducement. Lets not forget the blogger, Castagana, who sent white powder (As Anne said she did), and who got jailed for that.
Castaganas ‘joke’, and threatening letters, were not funny. I don’t hate Anne Coulter (I’m stoopit that way about all people) because of her political views, but her bias laden attack methodology is growing quite tiresome. Anne has (in jest, I assume) claimed to have sent that mysterious white powder to The New York Times. (Roll out the copy cats)
Now, Ballbuster, this kind of stuff isn’t funny (BTW I don’t watch Maher) and this guy (a freeper) Castagana apparently has mimicked the extreme views of blow you up pundits. Does that make all freepers as nutty as Castagana? Certainly not, it would be ludicrous for me to assume and post such non-facts.
Many people, unfortunately, take their TV pundits seriously. Anne is not funny, never has been, if she wants to make jokes she should hire a comedian to help her out. Radical statements create radical fans.
I don’t agree that Anne, nor any person, should be dropped from a building because of a political ideology; but these people, pundits, need to realize that they are taken very seriously by some of their viewers.
And please, BB, stop grouping people you do not know. To say ‘you Democrats all want the death penalty’ is not a correct statement and I am sure you realized that before you even posted your remark. I am truly sick and tired of this media and blogger frenzy of grouping by association in effort to create controversy, moreover, many have actually come to believe in their own opinonated group theory as I see it here, and elsewhere, daily.
I recognize it and you probably should as well. I am glad the media is starting to realize that this divisive rhetoric is not helping but harming our country.
United we stand; divided we fall.
And yes, it is true that you people here are listened to quite intently, you have surely noticed by now, so it is important that you make your words and statements count. Use your head and not your bias when making your points. Validate them with links and other pertinent data.
March 7th, 2007 at 5:34 amTo be slightly irreverent, I showed the photo of Ann-thrax on the original thread about her “faggot” remark to three Japanese women. Two weren’t sure of her/his gender, and one thought she/he is a long-haired man. Incidentally, the Japanese word for “Adam’s apple” is “nodobotoke”–literally meaing, the “Buddha in the throat.”

Ok, I would like you to provide the quote in which someone said–verbatm–”we would be better off with Cheney dead,” complete with proper and verifiable attribution. You can’t, simply because no one said that. On the other hand, we have Coulter’s words about Edwards, Gore, Clinton, the 9/11 widows, etc., etc., in print and on screen.
