StopIranWar.com released its second in a series of video blogs today warning against a military strike on Iran. In the new release, Iraq war veteran Jon Soltz says, “You really can’t support striking Iran and support the troops in the field, because all you’re doing is making an extremely difficult mission that’s almost impossible right now, pure military force, more complex by striking Iran.” Clark adds that the mission of U.S. troops after a strike on Iran would be simple — “It’ll be about survival.” Watch it:
And what can we citizens expect if the fascists strike Iran? Well let’s start with $5 a gallon gas…
March 7th, 2007 at 1:30 pmThey’re a bit off here. They talk about Sadrists rising up – and while he’s a Shi’ite and has clearly said he would respond to an attack on Iran, he’s not closely aligned to Iran. The Da’wa and SCIRI parties (the latter controlling the Badr corps, and both thickly involved with the Iraqi military and interior ministry) ARE closely aligned with Iran, and they will rise up. This misfocus on Sadr as the bad guy, when the two other Shi’ite parties (ostensibly our allies) are even more closely tied and sympathetic to Iran is really understating the danger.
Also, they’re playing into the righties’ frame that there IS an Iranian weapons program, something yet to be proven even in the face of IAEA inspections.
But I suppose it’s a start.
March 7th, 2007 at 1:32 pmwell its pretty clear tht the Right in this country DON’T support the troops… so i guess that means there will be an invasion. time to invest in a bike!
March 7th, 2007 at 1:35 pmGreat segment ! Wes Clark is exactly who we need as POTUS in 2008.
March 7th, 2007 at 1:39 pmIs it any wonder that most of the rest of the world hate and despise us for even considering an Iran strike as an option, at all? Perhaps we HAVE all lost our minds.
March 7th, 2007 at 1:41 pmIt would help if we bought some Yellow Magnet Ribbons!
March 7th, 2007 at 1:44 pmLike the administration cares about the welfare of the troops. Bush sends 20,000 more there to be in harms way when he attacks Iran.
March 7th, 2007 at 1:55 pmWell, it may depend partly on whether Bush decides to use tactical nukes against Iranian installations and which way the wind is blowing. A cloud of fallout heading in the direction of the Green zone may affect the mission somewhat.
March 7th, 2007 at 1:57 pmRandy, there’ll be a cloud of Iranian missles heading toward the green zone. And one or two aircraft carriers and battleships. If only one gets through the defenses, we’re going to lose a lot of soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines.
yet bob, marine that he is, still writes in support of his Beloved Dictator-in-Chief.

I hear that sales of those magnets have fallen so dramatically that at least one supplier has a surplus of over a million of them on hand.

March 7th, 2007 at 2:10 pmI completely agree with Clark. Clark said that we don’t need to exercise the military option right now and he is right. We need to talk with the terrorist leaders of Iran and see if we can get them to completely stop enrichment. Personally, I disagree with the President and I don’t believe we have to wait to talk with them until they halt enrichment. I see no harm in talking with them right this moment. It is vital that we at least attempt to talk these terrorist down from this dangerous path.
In the the end, if talks unfortunetly fail, Clark is once again correct that the military option is still something to consider. He clearly said the military option isn’t the best option right now, but if talks fail, we will have to take action. Obama and Clinton share this wise idea as well. They to want to talk with the Iranian terrorist first and see if we can talk them down. They also realize that we must leave the military option on the table in the regretable situation where they choose to continue enrichment and talks fail. That is not something anyone hopes for yet we need to be prepared the best we can for that situation may it occur.
Obama and Clinton share the UN view that Iran cannot be allowed to enrich Uranium. We need to talk now, but be prepared to strike them if they fail. What is important is stopping them from enrichment. My faith in Bush is certainly lacking right now which makes me a bit nervous that talks will fail or won’t happen at all. Iran’s terrorist leaders seem very strong headed and also very foolish just like Bush. Any wise man would have halted enrichment already but these terrorists are proving to be unwise. Bush is also foolish for not backing down and having talks anyways.
When you put 2 unwise groups head to head, the outcome isn’t fun to imagine. Iranians do have much more to lose however. If we fail to talk them down, we then have the very tough road of using military force to disarm and stop their enrichment. The terrorist will lose control of their country and probably their lives. We win in the end regardless.
March 7th, 2007 at 2:19 pmHey, Roger_Rhetoric,
Have you found out yet what the difference is between fuel-grade and weapons-grade uranium?
Looking forward to your response.
March 7th, 2007 at 2:23 pmTOTALLY UNDERSTATED !
Gee Wes I don;t know ,do you think it would be a small disaster ? Maybe tanker insurance will go up ?
Were already in the 100’s of 1000’s of lives lost ( unimportant non amerikan lives ) and several times that in wounded and injured plus many many times that in refuges fleeing with what they can carry !
Lebanon is a mess after an American supported attack on its infrastruture setting the Lebanese people back decades and increasing human suffering there for years to come !
Iran, lest we forget, is part of the infamous AXIS OF EVIL .Could someone remind me how many times, after the British granted it its freedom as a modern nation ,we have overthrown its government ? or barring that ,when rumsfeld was there to arm Saddam (,that is before he disarmed him ,in a flipflop which cost a million lives between the now liberated Iraqi’s and the axis of evil member whose gov’t we couldn’t overthrow fast enough ) can someone explain how a major disruption in oil would effect the worlds economies ?or how such a fiasco would be interpreted by other players on the world stage ?
VERY VERY DANGEROUS !
March 7th, 2007 at 2:24 pmEven our allies are afraid of us . Do you suppose this will relax them ? This is third world war written all over it .This commercial softens the consequences
The Russian president , only recently remarked that US foreign policy is making the world a dangerous place .The Chinese are shooting weather satellites out of the sky and arguablly the worlds most important geographical region is descending into chaos and misery due to American policies put in place by people who signed onto the idea that with the collapse of the soviet union and the supposed unpreparedness of the rising chinese now was the time to invade the mid east .Oh which incidentally IS A WAR CRIME !
Sorry but in the next election I’m voting for the easter bunny !
Roger_Regurgitator
When will someone stop the terrorist leader of this country?
Roger you’re just a few French fries short of a happy meal.
March 7th, 2007 at 2:29 pmFirst of all, People should realize MILITARY always = WAR, MILITARY does not always = College Money. While I hate for our troops to be dying every day, Stop Whining!! How many troops did we lose in Vietnam??? Soon people will bitch and cry when 2 people die!! Why such a positive outcome in Afghanistan?? Notice the troops there are “professional” SF soldiers who want to serve their country, and will die doing so. Every time I see our troops in IRAQ they are bitching and moaning about going home. Thaey dont want to be there. If you goto ogrish.com you will se US SOLDIERS throwing flashbang grenades at Sheep, and their herdsman, raping girls, killing innocents. Hmm if they like us before they dont now. IRAQ DIDI HAVE WMD!! HELLO he used them on over 500 Kurdish villages and taped the act (While the world did nothing) DO YOU FORGET U.N. GAVE THEM OVER SIX MONTHS TO MOVE ALL WMD INTO SYRIA, RUSSIA.
As far as IRAN is concerned, You will all see, The will do something and then you will all bitch, and cry, and ask WHY WE DID NOTHING.
March 7th, 2007 at 2:30 pmIRAN is allied with many Latin american countries. Soon there will be car bombs exploding on every corner. give it 15 years. All you hippies will be running for safety in my shelter, asking for my guns, how to use them. WE NEED TO TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS OVER THERE, BEFORE IT GETS HERE IN THE U.S. Most you have the slightest idea what goes on in other places in the world. Spend a week there, Youll change your mind.
#13 I clearly know the difference but I fail to see why it matters. The UN’s resolution clearly states that Iran cannot enrich uranium PERIOD. Furthermore, Your 2 top presidental canidates support this as well. Clinton and Obama have clearly stated over and over that Iran cannot be allowed to enrich any amount of Uranium and they both agree that we have to keep the military option open if talks fail. So the the leaders of your party agree with me. You see, this isn’t a left vs. right thing. This is a protect America and our Allies thing. Your leaders understand that as well. Hell, I bet in the end Clark would agree that we would have to use our military if talks completely fail. No sane leader of either party is saying we should allow them to enrich uranium.
The only true debate among those of us that understand that Iran cannot enrich Uranium is how and when to talk with them. Some want them to halt enrichment beforehand and others like myself think we should just go talk to them right now. Either way, both parties are in agreement that we cannot allow Iran to enrich Uranium.
#15 Shouldn’t you be at school yet? Did you think your statement was clever? I know I have never heard that one before EVER. So funny and clever you are kid.
March 7th, 2007 at 2:40 pmGung_Ho is apparently ‘gung-ho’ about parroting the administration/Fox Noise talking points like a good little sheep.
March 7th, 2007 at 2:41 pmComment by Gung _ Ho — March 7, 2007 @ 2:30 pm
I served 18 months in Baghdad. We bitched a lot, I’ll agree. Mainly because no one could tell us what the mission was, or it was constantly changing. They also couldn’t tell us who the enemy was, and kept flip-flopping on that. Those who we were there to support were shooting at us, and every other week almost, they have a change in who we are supposed to be targeting. Also, they could never tell us what would bring a military victory. In other words, you are stuck here in Iraq forever, because the terrorists will follow you home, or because Iran will take over. So, in short, we had no idea why we were there, what we were doing, or when we would get to go home. When I first went over, they said “weeks, not months”. I came home 18 months later.

Good. Yourself? BTW, where did your screen name come from?
March 7th, 2007 at 2:55 pmWe WON the war!!! Thanks to our Men & Women. We Defeated the Iraqi Army, Nabbed Saddam, But our tactics stayed the same. I believe we suceeded in Iraq. But you know what, we are sitting ducks. If the Iraqi Army was patrolling our streets, I would be working my job by day and Killing them by night, Woulnt you?? WE NEED A CHANGE OF TACTIC, But thats hard for a general to do nowadays when Politicians are trying to plan wars. Our soldiers have too much to worry about, now the press is recording everything. I dont agree with everything in IRAQ. But Im tired of this “Damned if you do- Damned if you dont” crap. Once covert Iranian Quds start terrorizing us on our soil, using thier enriched unranium to make a dirty bomb over L.A. you will all say “why didnt we bomb their facilities when we could.” You think this is way out there?? Wake up. Iran will be opening 7 embassies in Latin America. Now we will have Iranian operatives infiltrating our southern border. (Which is wide open) There will be one flight a week to Venezuela soon.
March 7th, 2007 at 3:06 pmPersonally, I think this is all in the “Big plan”
*Invade Afghanistan (east border of Iran)
*Invade Iraq (west border of Iran) (good supply of oil when Iran cuts us off)
*Take Libya off the Terror Watch State (Good supply of oil, when Venezuela cuts us off)
*Add Venezuela to the terror state list.
*Make friend with north korea (we need the troops, Cut the flow of Nuke techn. betwen Iran, N. Korea.)
*Force iran into submission!!
Roger_Rhetoric sez:
Then you don’t understand the difference. Thanks for playing.
Two things:
1) Under the terms of the NPT, Iran is allowed to enrich uranium for fuel purposes, which it what they are doing. The resolution to unilaterally forbid Iran from any uranium enrichment is thus unlawful.
2) If you’re so fired up about violations of U.N. resolutions, you might want to concentrate your ire on Israel, who is in violation of 31 resolutions, last time I checked. If not, please explain your hypocrisy.
They’re not ‘my’ presidential candidates, thanks. Their stance on the matter is irrelevant. What is relevant is that the U.N. resolution is unlawful, since it forbids Iran from doing something they have an express right to do under the NPT, of which they are a signatory. What is also relevant is the critical difference between fuel-grade and weapons-grade uranium, but since you don’t seem to understand that, I can understand your confusion.
Again, don’t try to classify me…you’re spectacularly unqualified to do so.
There’s more to your post, but since all it does is further underscore your fatal inability to understand the difference between fuel-grade and weapons-grade uranium, it is pointless to address it.
March 7th, 2007 at 3:06 pmDID I MENTION WE HAVE IRAN SURROUNDED?

March 7th, 2007 at 3:23 pmFor 60 years the US has assassinated democratically elected leaders . toppled governments ,elected or not, that didn’t go along and created insurgencies to destabilize numerous sovereign nations .All explained by the cold warriors as a necessary evil in the struggle against communism .These same cold warriors and their “realists” approach to foreign policy now have invaded the worlds oil fields in a move Naziesque in it’s audacity and run to boot by oil and energy executives which even currently receive stipends from the corporations whom profit most by our occupation and control of these oil fields .( a small conflict of interest?)
March 7th, 2007 at 3:27 pmThe political debate is a farse,a debate between war criminals and their democratic supporters and apologists .The ship of state (SS Condi Rice )is hopelessly adrift and the world is a much much more dangerous place entirely as a result of policies advanced by fascists who trade in human lives as though they were no more than stocks in their already bloated portfolios.
Rumsfeld helped arm Saddam as the US supported a war between Iraq and Iran which claimed more than a million lives .He sleeps at night ? These people are animals and their legacy must not be allowed to follow us into the 21st century as a nation!
With the end of the cold war the US is the only evil left standing Dick ?
pray the chinese agree as we attempt to control them and that all the countries south of the border whose governments weve been toppling for years smile as they make an abrupt left turn, and yes the terrorists hate us because were good and because of our freedom .
Crazy Clark has spoken!
March 7th, 2007 at 3:27 pmEveryone needs to go to the Stop Iran site mentioned in the article and sign the petition to stop the planned attack on Iran. Our entire army and navy will be destroyed which is bush’s plan for the New World Order. Bush thinks all he needs are a few Mormons and Fundamentalists in the Air Force to nuke everyone including American cities.
Stop bush – Wes Clark is a true and courageous patriot and so are the veterans at VoteVets please support them in their efforts to protect and save OUR ENTIRE ARMY, MARINES AND NAVY – bush will use mercenaries to send us all to the concentration camps they have ready from the 2.3 Trillion that Dov Zakheim stole from the Pentagon – look it up!
March 7th, 2007 at 3:35 pmThe balance of power is fragile, You dont seem to be complaining living in America. Those are the steps thant sometimes need to be taken to be on top. As far as securing oil field, If you have a job, or a car, then start walking to work. WE MADE OIL WORTH SOMETHING. Next time you cry about toppling goverments, assasinations, WATCH RED DAWN! Then people wonder why there is so many background checks for goverment positions. So we dont get a bunch of hippies in office. Well be speaking Chineese before you know it.

So in other words, we did what we went in to do. So why are we still there? What exactly is the mission now, since it looks like they never told Chris what it was, and he was there on the ground, unlike yourself I’m sure?
March 7th, 2007 at 3:40 pmWhy are we still in Germany and Japan? We won that war too.
March 7th, 2007 at 3:41 pmWHATS THE POINT OF AN ARMY IF YOU DONT USE THEM. The want to nuke US poeple. March 7th, 2007 at 3:59 pmBad news for Clark’s friends the mullahs.
PANIC IN TEHRAN: “The disappearance and possible defection of former Iranian deputy defense minister Ali Reza Asgari has the Iranian government deeply worried — and for good reason. . . . Asgari’s disappearance is a sign that cracks are appearing in Iran’s intelligence community. The very fact that someone as senior as he was able to disappear without a trace, is in itself a signal that the regime may be losing its grip on observation and security of major human assets.” Read the whole thing.

Just because you love everyone, forgive yada ydada, doesnt mean they will love you back. They will kill you. By the way, Im a disabled veteran, as a career. I lost my a portion of my foot to an IED. I would go back for a 3rd tour, if I could. I dont want war with anyone. But if wars is what it takes to keep a rogue, AMERICAN HATEING country from obtaining Nuke, so be it. March 7th, 2007 at 5:49 pmAs a neocon troll we have learned to believe nothing you say. Of course is is possible you have an undiagnosed head injury…that would explain lots. But I suspect you got that in a bar fight in Texas not in the military.
FYI Pissing of the rest of the world doesn’t make us safer. Perhaps the fact we’re on Iran’s border makes them unhappy. The only thing your peeps have done is create more “American Hating” countries. Thanks for nothing.
you ought to be aSHANEd of yourself. You all seem to be the agressive ones!! look back in the comments!! As for Texas, I HATE TEXAS. Get out of the suburbs and into the real world. you will not live long. Its not my fault the world hates us! Dont get mad at me agressive one. As for being on Irans border. Maybe if they stop supplying weapons to terrorists, we wont bomb them into the stone age!! Also look into Venezuelas arms spending 5 billion dollars last year!! All to use againt us!!! Now send some Iranians into Caracas. You will see soon! You will agree with me. We need to Nuke Tehran, put the world in check for another 50 years!!

But thats what makes you different from them .Just as free speech makes us a democracy and stronger .
This is a war of conquest by cold war era ideologues to establish , in their words , “American hegemony” . This was all pre meditated aggression and criminal in international laws of which we are signatories and for good reasons, they make us more secure !Those reasons made us stronger and opposing injustice is the duty of all thinking people ESPECIALLY for those living in a democracy !
This is an illegal war whose real reasons have never been explained to the american people .
Very true. If the U.S. attacks Iran, all the American troops in the region are in much greater danger. Iran has the capability of shooting back.

And as far as the progressives here being the aggressive parties, I will have to disagree with you.
I have looked back thru this thread as well, and have found endless threats from you towards nearly everyone in the world.
Your comment about the Indians who were killed off, because some things just needed to be done, hit particularly close to home.
