UPS refuses to drop Coulter.

By Amanda Terkel on Mar 7th, 2007 at 1:04 pm

UPS refuses to drop Coulter.

Statement from Universal Press Syndicate, which syndicates Ann Coulter’s column: “[Coulter] is not an employee and we have no legal power to ‘fire’ her, though, of course, any of her subscribing newspapers can drop her column at any time. Whether the words she chose in referring to John Edwards were misplaced humor or outright bigotry, we would not have distributed them in her column.” So far, two papers have announced plans to stop running Coulter’s column.

It was outright bigotry. She and the Right wingnuts know it.

  2. ∞Ω says:

    I’ll FedEx it then.

  3. GOP Troll Supervisor says:

OK Wingnut Trolls. Lets start on this thread. And STAY ON TOPIC!!

  4. Daniel K. says:

I have no problem with this response – I know that a lot of people want Ann Coulter silenced, but I like the crazies out where I can see them and know what they’re up to.

  5. RUCerious says:

They don’t have to “Fire” her.
    Just stop syndicating her crap.

  6. Parrotlover77 says:

Or just clever marketing. I bet her book sales are taking off with the good and bad press she’s been receiving lately.

    Absolutely distasteful, repulsive, and disgusting.

And exposed for what they are so that the conservatives (but not quite lunatic conservatives) might realize what she really stands for.

  8. R says:

Ann Coulter is a human bag of waste, not-so-cleverly disguised as a human being. Any paper that carries her columns should be inundated with criticisms and complaints for endorsing her sick, lame excuse for free expression.

  9. Tobey Tall says:

Boycot yhe papers with her in it also – not that I personally buy any paper at all – The independent If I have to

I also had an argument with a friend reading the Sun newspaper in my house and actually lost the rag and threw him out my house

  10. Roger_Roger says:

I think every paper should drop Coulter. She is an evil person and what she has to say no one should care about. Of course this TP post doesn’t seem to have a point though. As UPS has said, they can’t drop someone who isn’t an employee and doesn’t get paid by them. Kinda of a non story. The real story is those horrible papers that haven’t dropped her.

  11. hil says:

#8…there is NO WAY she is human!

  12. Raven says:

I think it’s very likely UPS did drop her, and from a considerable height…enough to cause significant damage…

This excuse is lame: UPS could choose not to carry her column. Columnsits and cartoonists are dropped from syndication all the time, so this excuse does not fly with me.

The real reason for not dropping Coluter’s column, is that UPS is making money from the sales of this woman’s tripe.

Having said that, I wish people stopped reading her writings and buying her books. She is not evil, but an act -and as long as people buy her act, she will keep playing it. Sort of like a clown, minus the dignity.

  14. R says:

#13- That’s right. I second that. Ban everyone and everything that support this regime. It’s all about money and that’s where it hurts them all, the most.

  15. Roger_Roger says:

#13 Yes, in the end the only reason to truly drop someone is because they aren’t profitable. If American still pay to read Coulter, she won’t be dropped. I am merely suggesting that American’s shouldn’t want to hear from her, thus the papers drop her.

  16. Tuber says:

Drop the papers if you don’t like their content, but don’t EVER think it okay to tell the media what they should or should not publish or broadcast.

Unless, of course, what you’re going to brodcast spreads calumny and mendacity about Fmr. Pres. Clinton’s administration (false and incomplete information used in “path to 9-11″), at which point you CAN tell them what to publish or broadcast.

  18. Pete Bogs says:

On a related note, I was going to have a few comments regarding Ann Coulter’s comments about John Edwards’ sexuality, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the expression “anorexic c**t.”

  19. AckSyn JAckSyn says:

I challenge Anne to make a coherent well thought out argument using facts and without schoolyard taunts and baseless opinions.

Where in my post did I even hint at banning anyone? I said “I wish people stopped buying her books and reading what she writes”.

That there is market for Coulter’s unique brand of hate talk is not a good sign, and speaks poorly of American society as a whole. Maybe a good educational, awareness campaign is needed?

If American still pay to read Coulter, she won’t be dropped.
    Comment by Roger_Roger — March 7, 2007 @ 1:58 pm

Yep, that is what it all comes down to: Money. That there is market for the stuff she peddles is rather worrisome. That the she is the conservative movement’s darling is very troubling. Is that the type of person conservatives want as a standard-bearer for their philosophy? It boggles the mind how anyone who is not Caucasian and straight would even consider joining…

No MORE Fed X for me…

  23. * Hater says:

Ann Coulter makes money for UPS.

    Nothing more, nothing less.

You didn’t think that a major corporation like that actually CARED about gay rights, did you?

It’s about money. It is always about money.

  24. Like-it-is says:

Go Ann! Say it like it is. These people can’t HANDLE the truth!

  25. The Truth says:

You are wrong, these people are much better handling me, than you and your kind.

  26. Shane says:

Coulter can’t have a positive discussion. She can’t make a point without blasting somebody else. And thats what Republican means. Let her talk away just so voters know who she speaks for.

  27. PoliticalCritic says:

Two papers out of how many? Hundreds?

  28. Uncle Ho says:

How’s this for a match? Ann Coulter hooks up with O.J. Simpson. I can’t think of a better pairing.

  29. english teacher says:

My guess is that UPS does not really get a lot of money for Coulter’s column from the newspapers that publish her. In fact, my guess is that UPS probably offers her column for less than her competitors, thus the reason she is in so many papers. Kind of like the “Radio Factor” and Westwood One. Anyway, Scaife probably subsidizes UPS to keep her column available, just like he’s subsidized everything the creep has ever published.

  30. ecthompson says:

That’s crap. They decide who to distribute and who not to distribute. They don’t want to break her contract because they fear conservative back lash.

  31. Tweb says:

the days are counted for that flat-assed trans-sexual Coulter skank …she’s on her way out!!!

  32. John Blickenstaff says:

Fed Ex is a terrible employer and company. They are definately more “right” leaning than UPS. I am a Teamster, Fed Ex workers are contract. Please use UPS if you support decent wages and benefits.

    SUBJECT: Ann Coulter’s Remarks

    FROM: David R.W. Wadsworth DRWWadsworth@gmail.com
    TO: Think Progress

    FORUM: Think Progress
    THREAD:

Ann Coulter, like any emissary of the great evil deceiver, wants mankind to think, act and behave in accordance with her and Satan’s evil, pernicious totalitarian dictates. While I believe her remarks are vile and despicable, it is God’s sanctioned free will that allows her to make those remarks unless and until Satan gets control of man’s actions at which time, she will prove to be Satan’s whore or one with Satan.

Either way, to shut her up would deprive the world to witness an excellent bad, contra example of the Progressive Thoughts and Wishes for Mankind of God the Father and His Son in he flesh and our brother in the spirit, Jesus Christ.

Let her rant and make a fool of herself to thinking, considerate people! I would rather hear her and her people coming than feel their claws and fangs in my groin as they try to get the one thing she and they will never have, a phallus with balls!
