Five papers

By Faiz Shakir on Mar 8th, 2007 at 7:31 pm

Five papers

have now dropped Ann Coulter, and the president of the Universal Press Syndicate is under mounting pressure to stop distributing her columns altogether. Greg Sargent is tracking the latest developments.

UPDATE: Media Matters has a full list of newspapers that carry Coulter’s column. Is Ann Coulter in your town?

An Coulter is really under your skin. Must be triggering some complex or you wouldn’t be reacting with such a high girly voice. Do you think for a minute that any of your shrillness upsets Coulter? Her fans are rooting her on and you will help her to sell her books.

  5. mandolin says:

This won’t hurt her popularity. In fact I didn’t even know her columns were printed in newspapers at all. I’ll still listen to her anyway because she is smart and funny.

Ya know, I went to Walmart one day when her last book, if it can be called such a thing, came out and no one was buying it. Alot of trees were cut down just so her plagiarism could be printed and stored in some warehouse somewhere.

Do you think for a minute that any of your shrillness upsets Coulter?

Seeing as I am male and don’t have a shrill voice nor do I speak vulgarily, it really doesn’t matter if Anne is upset. You however seem to be a bit irritated about it.

  11. Bluedog49 says:

    Coulter: “He’s a total fag.”

The citizens of Mike Judge’s “Idiocracy”: “You talk like a fag and your sh*t’s all retarded.”

Yeah, Mandolin, she’s real funny. Just like the future citizens of Idiocracy.

  13. AshenShard says:

I propose we support Ann Coulter and her support of traditional values by using a traditional means to dealing with a foul mouth … by giving her a bar of soap.

Of course we may need one of those large soap on a rope deals judging by the size of her mouth, and at some point when she is not suffering from foot in mouth disease.

  14. AckSyn JAckSyn says:

I’ll still listen to her anyway because she is smart and funny.

Your right Zooey. This is funny.

Anne attracts people who know little or nothing about politics but think that by listening to someone regurgitate funny words such as ‘faggot’ they might learn about politics.

Anne is not doing you or your girlfriend any good mandolin except creating controversy while complex legislation and pork spending is stealing your precious tax dollars right out of your pocket.

    Now thats funny!

“Am a perfectionist and rarely if if ever forget details.”

“Received a plague for Salesperson of the Year.”

“Wholly responsible for two (2) failed financial institutions.”

“Reason for leaving last job: maturity leave.”

“Failed bar exam with relatively high grades.”

These apparently come from corporate Performance Evaluations:

“This employee is depriving a village of an idiot.”

“This employee should go far and the sooner he starts, the better.”

“He sets low personal standards and then consistently fails to achieve them.”

Personally I think that the public discourse in the US has become very, very ugly. Is this really the sort political commentary that we want in this country? As a child growing up in the 60’s, I never heard this sort of repulsive and hateful rhetoric coming from the political pundits of that time.

We have become an ugly and repulsive country thanks to the likes of Coulter, Limbaugh, Hannity and O’Reilly.

What’s really funny, to me at least, is that I never hear the Democratic party spokesholes talking in this manner. I don’t like Democrats any more than I like Republicans, but at least the Democrats seem to keep it more civil.

Yes, I’ll admit that Ann has a certain appeal…the people who buy her books are the same people that slow down when passing an accident scene on the highway, hoping to see blood.

Ann’s popularity, like so many of the ‘right-wing icons’ is based soley on pandering to the absolute lowest possible common denominator. I continue to hold out hope that enough of the 30%ers will kick-start enough neurons to see through her manipulative bullsh!t, but the sad fact is America is, by and large, a nation of sheep, and the criminals in the White House, as well as their sycophantic supporters, know this all too well.

Unfortunately as the rightwing bignouths get more desperate commensurate with the exposure of their lies and hypocrisy, they tend to write their own phantom scripts for Air America, and tell their listeners that it’s fact.
The jerks who listen to them believe it and repeat it here.

Really the word Faggot can mean many things form a pork meatball to a Russian MIG to a bundle of sticks. Edwards is not gay nor a meatball nor a bundle of sticks. Ergo her statement is untrue, a lie.

To use Ann’s logic Libby lied and was charged with obstruction of justice yet he should be pardoned because he lied. Ann apparently thinks lying is somehow acceptable.

I don’t find hypocrisy amusing or smart. Secondly she is an adult and she should act like one instead of a foul mouthed schoolyard kid.

Here’s a letter I emailed to one of the papers on the list. Perhaps I’ll send it to a few more too.

    Dear editor,

Thank you for taking the time to read my comments.

Ann Coulter is obviously bigoted and homophobic. But she has a right to her opinion. What bothers me more however is her willingness to use those or any issues to gain notoriety by pure sensationalism. She is clearly not a trustworthy source of opinion, as he opinion is defined by whatever will get her name on the front page to sell books — no matter who she offends or how inaccurate her facts are.

I urge you remove Ann Coulter’s column from your pages, as she is an embarrassment to your otherwise fine newspaper.

    Thank you very much,

This is why I find todays Conservatism an hypocrisy, Pork Barrel spending shot thru the roof, this war will cost trillions of dollars, none of that is conservative, and this is why I agree more today with the Democrats and not because of lifestyles that the pundits try to link to political ideology. I am religious and God has nothing to do with my political thinking nor with sexual preferences as many pundits try to infer.

It’s over, Phil. The GOP has been in a tailspin for the past year or so and it’s just not going to help you guys to come over here and type out your tired old talking points. People aren’t dumb enough to buy that stuff. That’s why Fox is losing viewers and MSNBC, Countdown in particular, is gaining. The problem for Fox is that, if you refuse to do stories about investigations of Republicans, indictments of Republicans, convictions of Republicans, and sentencing of Republicans, you’re left with having to run stuff about Anna Nicole Smith and O.J.

Let us know how that “War on the Easter Bunny” bit turns out. You’d better hope it does better than the “War on Christmas”. That one blew chunks.

  92. AckSyn JAckSyn says:

And that, Phil, my friend, is how you have let words, by pedants, frame your thinking. Ann called Edwards a Fag because she knows people will relate, mentally, one with another.

I thought they were just bad typists at first, but after writing “thier” twenty-five straight times—WTF?

Well said… We all make typos or transpose letters or substitute similar sounding words for one another on occasion – especially when the exchanges are fast and furious – but when someone continues to misspell basic words over and over, claims to know everything inspite of their refusal to actually read anything non-fictional, you really have to wonder…

    the drones

    the meeting in Prague
    the urgent threat
    the ties to al Qaeda

The majority of our troops were led to believe that Saddam was at least partly responsible for 9/11.

Granted, I’ve admitted they found him not guilty, but the US House of Representatives impeached him for lying to the Grand Jury under oath in the Paula Jones hearing which she received $750,000 from Clinton to go away. He then lost his license to practice law.

  181. keith says:

Have you been following the Libby conviction? It was well known by Cheney’s office that the Niger documents were extremely poor forgeries 12 months before Bush used them in the State of the Union Speech as one of the reasons for the urgency of the invasion.

They were probably forged by Feith, Ledeen, and Italian intelligence.

  182. JPark says:

#174 No, Mikey, everybody knows Bush lied about WMD and Saddam’s “connection” to the 9-11 hijackers. Only morons like you and your fellow Fox viewers buy that there were no lies. I pity you for being so stupid.

  183. keith says:

If some Dems fell for the lies—–that is not proof that what was said was true. You’re having trouble with this concept, aren’t you?

  184. keith says:

You still don’t get the concept that impeachment just means there is reason for a trial (in the Senate) and does not say he is guilty of anything.

He did not lie under oath for the reason I keep stating. I can only state it. I cannot understand it for you.

He should never have been forced to testify at all about something that has nothing to do with the office of the presidency nor the constitution.

Everyone leading and calling for the impeachment were also adulterers and you think that is a change of subject.

  185. keith says:

Hell, I’d pay Paula Jones $750,000 to leave me alone, too.

  186. keith says:

Since you are so hung up on a bj—- WHY DON’T YOU GROW UP!!!

  187. keith says:

Which is more important–a bj or the loss of 658,000 human beings, $2.3 TRILLION, and our national security? Because according to the 16 intelligence agencies of the USA, this war has harmed our national security.

  188. ValiantVenusGrewFromUranus says:

There were many people on both sides of the aisle who believed they had these weapons. I asked you to produce verifiable lies that W went out of his way to get us into this war and you CAN’T!
    Comment by michael — March 9, 2007 @ 12:25 am

Yes, but only people from your side of the aisle were *fabricating* the evidence to support this.

Your *evidence* of the effort is well documented in Feith, Cheney and every other Lying sack of sh*t that derailed the intelligence process. You’re a fcuking cowardly old c*nt – dum bass.

  189. keith says:

Do you think Libby would commit perjury and obstruction of justice over and over and over again for something that was trivial? The story behind the Libby story is extremely important. It is about people from the White House forging the “Niger Documents”.

  190. AckSyn JAckSyn says:

Is that the best way you can debate her? Can’t you at least try to use some intelligence?
    Comment by michael

Calling someone a fag who isn’t is intelligent King question mark?

  191. betty longschlong says:

Any well hung males in here for itsy bitsy betty?

My fiance isn’t even in to politics and she asked the other day if we could go see Ann speak somewhere.

    Comment by mandolin — March 8, 2007 @ 7:45 pm

Just a note: fiancé (with accent, you ignorant), it’s a HE. The feminine version of the word is fiancée. That hapens very often in French (the horrors) words with a genre.

But probably you knew it. Being a fan of Ann Coulter, there’s not a surprise in knowing that your girlfriend is a HE.

    Just saying.

  193. AckSyn JAckSyn says:

Ann isn’t capable of debate Michael she simply says some really dumb things hoping it appears to look like debate when it is nothing but schoolyard taunts (which she admitted to) and repeating the same old Clinton and Kennedy talking points for the last 8 years. Most of what Anne says has been debunked yet, like propaganda, she keeps repeating it hoping you will believe it. (it becomes true to dolts)

  194. tom baker says:

#4 Gary Gilmore had a lot of fans show up for his execution, too.

In fact, a lot of terrible people have fans – doesn’t mean they’re not terrible people.

I like it that the “invisible hand of the free market” is exactly what’s bringing (m)Ann’s gravy train to a screeching halt.

  195. tom baker says:

(…she sure attracts the very least intelligent, most-likely-to-end-up-on America’s-Most-Wanted brand of Trolls…..maybe another of her mouthbrather minions will go off and do a heinous crime, and we can put her on trial like Charlie Manson)

  196. creasybear says:

    #4 & 5:
An Coulter is really under your skin. Must be triggering some complex or you wouldn’t be reacting with such a high girly voice. Do you think for a minute that any of your shrillness upsets Coulter? Her fans are rooting her on and you will help her to sell her books.

Hmmm, I tot this was all about getting the troops out; saving more unnecessarily wasted trillions; avoiding another bloody sacrifice of our boys by not attacking Iran, and getting away from another nation’s civil war? I guess I sense a Carl-Rove-like public opinion twisting and manipulative style here again. Something like this:

Get a stupid bimbo with big tits and sexy figure in the focus. Let her do the talking. Miss Rice is just too f***ken hideous, and the boys hate her comment. They need someone to give them the hard-on, and use her sexy talents to argue, and make them believe that we never lost the war. That the neocons and the rubbish in the WhiteHouse are the reel things.

Its all like the shit that happens while having a phone-sex. But this time, its the media little porn-like propaganda. It would have actually worked if Babara Bush and Condi Rice, and Cheney have long sexy legs and big asses, and wonderful racks, most Americans would have never criticized them. Poor American soldiers, more and more to die, while the media keep their cameras focused on Coutler’s lips, hips and ducktailing ass. Maybe the pain & diversion would have been worth it if she’s worth 0000.000001% of the attention the media’s giving her. Anyway, a little piece of advice to the dolts in the WhiteHouse, maybe they outta sack the SnowMan, and give his job to someone like Pamela Anderson, Im very very sure her comments and appearance would pull enough attention. Would it?
    What a pathetic administration.
